I really wanted to like DiBella's, but just do not feel the love. The subs are mediocre. The bread is nothing special and the meats and toppings are kind of blah - I can't put my finger on exactly what it is. First off the place reminds me of an old fashion dinner from the 1940s. The music, the art and the old fashioned neon signs give off that old timey vibe. As for the Subs, they're fantastic. The bread alone is a reason to go, it's so warm and soft! They offer a wide selection of subs, my personal favorite is the cowboy. The thick cut bacon goes perfect with the chicken and BBQ sauce. It reasonably priced as long as you get no extra stuff on your sub otherwise you could be spending over 10 dollars. If you go to Suny Albany like me, use your student ID for 10% off. Decent food but be prepared to customize every order. NOTHING is available to just order off the menu, even their specialty subs need you to specify each and every ingredient. If you go to most other sub places at least the basics are available as a quick order, but not here. Cheesesteak sub with peppers and onions( as stated on the menu board). Usually love this place but...visit yesterday asked for horseradish in addition to horseradish sauce. The sandwich maker with attitude proceeded to put all of the horseradish in one spot. The only thing I can say is if you wanna get their best service and sub, you better go for the lunch. Cause only way they can manage the high quality of their product and service at same time is working when the manager presents. During my more than 4-years old customer experience, I am totally disappointed to their dinner time service. I love roast beef subs so on my lunch break went here. The roast beef was hard and had a plasticy texture, lettuce was eh, and cheese was just cheese. Nothing to write home about, except to not waste your time. Unfortunately took the sub back to work and couldn't head back over to complain. Well what can I say about this place, one of the guys I work with said you need to try this place. So for one of our office parties we order some subs, I really didn't have really high expectations because I figured a sub is a sub right? Not until I bit into a sub from Dibella's. First the sub roll that it comes on is probably the best sub roll I have ever tasted. They make all their own rolls fresh, they have plain, sesame,multigrain, and everything. I only have tried their plain because it is so good I don't want to try anything else. Now the sub I had was the godfather, which is genoa salami,capicola and spicy ham it was delicious. Today I went back because I have been meaning to try the Dagwood which has turkey,ham and corned beef it was so good. I can't describe the way that their bread has right texture to it and pair it along with boars head cold cuts and what you get is stupendous one of a kind sub. I also tried their chocolate chip cookie and it was very good soft and cooked perfectly. This place is going to become one of the regular places I visit because there are so many different subs and rolls that I want to try. read more

I tried this restaurant for the first time last week. The meatballs and sauce had a nice flavor and the sub roll was very fresh. That's where the positives end. I left the place pissed off because I felt that I was ripped off. I ordered the Italian meatball sub, medium. For almost $8.00 there definitely should have been more than 3 small meatballs and a slice of mozzarella cheese, if there was any cheese at all!! Really? $7+ for 3 meatballs and barely any cheese?? Of course the sandwich maker said she could put on another meatball "for an additional charge". Unacceptable. Oh yeah, and the woman preparing our order was a dolt. My friend that was with me was surprised and embarrassed as he had said how good the place was and how stuffed with food the subs were, as I have heard many others say also. It's unfortunate that I cannot recommend your place or go back there myself. It's very sad to me that the American way has become all about how badly businesses can rip off the customer. Needless to say, despite good flavor, I'd be hard pressed to go back to this restaurant, especially in light of the fact that there are so many tremendously excellent Italian markets in the Albany area. I can't remember now what kind of sub I ordered. I do know I ordered a medium and it was huge and tasty. I am used to a softer bread, so that bread seemed very hard to me. I didn't care for the pasta salad at all, it just didn't taste right. I placed my order from my hotel and it was ready in less than 5 minutes. High points for quick service. read more

For people who don't eat meat there is only one sub choice. It's called the veggie, but had so few on it. The best I could do was get spinach instead of lettuce. For a small sub - which was substantial - there were only 2 slices of cheese. All the photos of meat subs showed more generous slices of meat. The whole grain roll was so dark as to look overbaked. We stopped in on a Sunday night to eat in. I wanted to order the Chicken Philly on grilled/toasted bread with peppers and onions. "Sorry, we are not able to toast bread at this location". Huh? But it says it on the website. "Sorry". Okaaaaaay, so I got it "classic style" on their everything bread. Also ordered the Tuna Salad sub on plain (wanted sesame but they were out of it). Everything is made behind and below the counter so you cannot see what they are doing or how much of anything they are putting on. The Chicken Philly was hot, but dry and the bread had a tough skin on it. The Tuna sub was dry, the bread was tough, mostly flavorless, and seemed to have all the toppings one one half and none on the other. This is the 2nd time we stopped in, but we didn't care for it either time. It wasn't for us. We will try a different place next time when we are in the mood for subs. read more

I tried this sub shop while I was visiting Albany, NY and it was not half bad. The employee I got seemed to be new, because he hardly knew that their menu had "spicy ham" or that sub sandwiches tend to get cheese on them. I got the pick/build 3 meats sub. With that said, I kind of like the concept of how you order there, and after figuring out the menu (and helping the associate do so as well), I got a sandwich that I did enjoy. I was in town for a couple nights and luckily on my second night this popped up on nearby restaurants on my Yelp app. The bread is incredible and I like both hot and cold subs offered here. Enter in to a very clean restaurant with ceramic tile walls, tin ceilings, pictures of the old DiBella's family on the walls and old time jazz music in the back-round. Order your sub (choice of 3 sizes) hot, cold or grilled on fresh baked torpedo rolls and customize it to your taste with quality meats and an assortment of free veggies and condiments. Then take a seat in the leather (maybe faux leather) booths with big tables and enjoy! Oh yeah and don't forget a fresh baked jumbo cookie for a sweet finish. Great above average subs. You have to experiment and find the perfect combination that will really hit the spot. My husband and I always order: 1) the godfather on plain, meat grilled, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayo, oil and vinegar, and crushed red pepper 2) the meatball on sesame with grilled onions, provolone, black olives, crushed red pepper, and a little extra sauce... whenever I deviate from that order I am not a happy camper.
