Additionally, having had a Goodman's Deli mile high corned beef sandwich when I lived in Cleveland, I had even higher expectations. Their most popular sandwich is the Reuben so I went with that. Katzingers did not meet them. When I arrived to pick up my sandwich I was shocked the line wasn't out the door to place orders before they closed and the dining room had maybe 6 people in it. There were about 6 to go bags on the shelf along with mine. When I mentioned to the cashier that I was surprised it wasn't busier, she said it'll be busier tomorrow. I said the day after St Pat's? No answer. Another not good sign in my mind. When I got home, the wrapped sandwich was bigger than my hand but not very tall. The paper had areas of grease which is a good sign for this sandwich. The corned beef itself was tender but there wasn't as much of it, maybe an inch high and 1/3 of the bread had no corned beef. I also could not taste the thousand island dressing. The rye bread was toasted but pretty soggy. The crust was mostly crunchy. The bread slices were paired upside down putting a narrower side a larger side against each other. There is not enough sauerkraut and it is not very sour. I was given the choice of a dill or garlic pickle but I cannot tell you how it was because they didn't put it in the bag. I expected this sandwich to have so much meat in it, I could eat for multiple days for $18. Again, disappointed. Maybe I should've gotten the deli sized version but paying that much for a sandwich... The inside of the deli is fun and it's obvious it's been around a long time and has been well loved. I wanted to like Katzinger's but since the price and the quality don't match, I cannot.

He took the time to hand chop my toppings, which is something I've never seen done on a sandwich before it's actually a genius idea you get a bite of everything and not having to worry about Hughes chunks of lettuce or tomato when eating. He took his time to graciously wrap, grill and paper my sandwich. The ambience was a simple restaurant nothing too fancy but the quality of service outshines everything else. The price of the sandwich was about $12 which I can't complain about because if I would've went to a chain, I would've spent that much if not more and the quality was nowhere near to be found.

You rarely see a 4.9 rating and even more rarely that high based on so many reviews. But I understand why - like in so many things in life, it is about the people. The diner has a complimentary, all-you-can-eat, self-serve pickle barrel. Realistically, you only need one or none at because it was overly salty.

The customer service during my visit was very disappointing. My order was missing all the toppings I had requested, which I understand can be an honest mistake. However, when I politely raised the issue, the employees made me feel like I was the problem and even spoke negatively about me within earshot which is unacceptable. Their sign said "Soup, Salad & Sandwich Kitchen," and since those are three of my favorite things, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant was bright, clean, and very welcoming. The menu boards had beautiful photos of the food, which definitely caught our attention. My only small complaint is that the menu doesn't include descriptions of what's on each sandwich or salad. Thankfully, the young lady behind the counter was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer all of our questions. She even shared her two favorite menu items and explained them in detail. She recommended the Brisket Grilled Cheese with smoked brisket, provolone and Muenster cheese, sliced tomato, BBQ sauce, all served on ciabatta bread, along with the Chicken Chipotle Salad loaded with fresh mixed greens, roasted chicken, red onions, tomatoes, fire-roasted corn, black beans, tri-colored peppers, cheddar cheese, avocado, tortilla strips, chipotle ranch, and a honey cilantro glaze. Both sounded too good to pass up, so I ordered the "Try Two" combo, which includes a full sandwich and your choice of a half soup or half salad. Let me tell you... these are NOT normal half portions! My meal was enormous. As an added bonus, every meal came with a warm roll and a complimentary chocolate-dipped strawberry. I also grabbed a lemonade to wash everything down. The presentation was fantastic, and as a former chef, it takes a lot to impress me. But wow... I was genuinely surprised. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, with layers of flavor in every bite. The brisket grilled cheese was outstanding, and the Chicken Chipotle Salad was packed with fresh ingredients and had just the right amount of kick. The warm roll and chocolate-covered strawberry were such thoughtful finishing touches that made the experience feel even more special. My wife ordered the Turkey Bacon Avocado Sandwich with the Tomato Bisque, and she loved every bite. Before we left, the manager mentioned that everything is made from scratch in their open-concept kitchen, which made perfect sense after tasting the food. It's not often we discover a restaurant that checks every box--friendly staff, fresh made-from-scratch food, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere--but Café Zupas absolutely did. We may have just found our new favorite lunch spot, and I can honestly say I'll be back again and again. Highly recommended!
