We stopped at Wario's during our weekend getaway and were not disappointed. My significant other and I split a cheesesteak, and it was fantastic. This pains me to write this but the food is slipping badly, today I had the Philly Wario's way and I got bland tasteless meat and cheese whiz. There was maybe 5 onions pieces the size of nickels that came pouring out of a sub that acts more of a squishy squirt gun than a sub, lately the bread is stiff and falls apart on the first bite. This sub was garbage Previously I got my favorite, the chicken caesar. The crispy chicken cutlets were so well done that they were hard to bite through and that just ripped apart the now stiff old rolls, and of course now everything is pouring out. The bread is not the same quality a year ago, in fact I saw a delivery of bread and I thought I saw everything was made in house. I'm kind of at the 1,2, strikes you're out because let's face it these aren't cheap subs and feeling ripped off while covered in your subs droppings is the worst feeling, I'm not to eager for a possible 3rd disappointment. Wandered over from my hotel and saw this not so hidden gem. Got the chicken cutlet and the sandwich I received was probably the biggest chicken cutlet sub I've ever bought (was wondering the 17$ price tag but immediately answered. I finally made it in to Wario's for lunch, and I thank the old gods and the new that I did. What flavor! What amazing character this place has. What aromas tantalized my nose as I waited. A camaraderie quickly formed among those of us in line, as regulars (experienced Warians) shared tips and recommendations with us newbies. I got the cheese steak and (crispy) chicken cutlet Caesar, plus an order of Warios spuds - crispy perfect potatoes with killer dipping sauce. Everything was ridonculously perfect. Like, out of this world good. Be sure to ask about off-menu daily specials! You order at the window, your food is made to order and then you feast - either at a few tables there or outside or in your car. The way everything smelled... sweet fancy Moses. If you love large subs stuffed well and served piping hot then you need to give this place a try. We ordered the Cheesesteak the wario way. The cheese wiz on it is had to explain beyond ooey gooey goodness! The grilled onions are perfection. The buns get high marks for the sesame seeds. I love those! We also ordered the Chicken Caesar with the crispy chicken. Everything about it was spot on. Plenty of romaine, dressing and fresh grated cheese wrapped around those crispy chicken strips. It was delicious. I think it may have even edged out the cheesesteak in my opinion which surprised me. For a place that you walk up to the counter and place your order we were served quickly. Waited less than 5 minutes for our order and we weren't the only ones there. You can sit inside or at tables outside. We sat long enough to share half of each sub and then wrapped them back up and headed to our next stop. As for the half of each sub that we took home, the chicken sub was great cold the next day. The North Market is a great place to stop by for lunch if you are in Downtown Columbus. There are so many tasty options, but Warios was one of my favorites. While I have had a genuine Philly Cheesesteak, including from Pat's, I cannot judge the authenticity of the sandwich, but will say that it is really good. There are plenty of tables upstairs if you do not intend to take the food to go. I will certainly consider stopping here again the next time I am in Columbus (even though there are still a few restaurants in the market that I would like to try). read more

And thus began lunch at Warios Beef & Pork, a Midwestern franchise sandwich shop. I'm figuring that it is the thought that counts. She even insisted that she pay for the lunch date. My daughter knows that I eat early, breakfast at 6am, lunch at 11:30am and dinner at 3pm. This is not a fancy place. Most of their business is take-out but we sat at a table inside. Order and pick-up at the counter. When your order is ready, you get a call. We ordered the "Roasted Pork sandwich" $16 which we split. I usually do not eat much at one time so a half of a sandwich is more than enough for lunch. The sandwich was large with rosemary/fennel, cured pork shoulder, broccoli rabe, picante provolone and served with pork jus on a fresh baked semolina bread. I found it to be a very tasty sandwich. I ate the sandwich with a bottle of "Coca Cola" $2, a drink I have enjoyed since I was a kid. I finally made it here! After seeing Warios featured on Triple D, I had to make it a point to try out for myself. I'm a HUGE cheesesteak nut and made it a point to try all of the best that Philly had to offer when I lived in Pennsylvania. I ordered the Warios Way inside since the window was not open. Not a lot of seating, but I didn't care since I was headed back to the car. I took pics because I had a feeling this was not gonna last long. Homemade roll with sesame seeds...unreal!! Chopped sirloin drowning in homemade cheese then topped with grilled onions. No joke I was in heaven! Hands down the BEST cheesesteak I've ever had in my life. The care that goes into each sandwich comes thru with every bite. I didn't time myself, but my Warios Way didn't last 5 minutes. I would take a bite, look at the sandwich, then let out a grunt of approval. All that was missing was a beer and a pillow. I can't rave enough about this cheesesteak. They are only open Wednesday thru Sunday but I will make it here every few weeks when the craving kicks in. Try them out! You won't be sorry. This spot is a great hidden gem for a sandwich, located right across the street from the stadium. Given its prime location, I'm sure they get a lot of business, especially after games--it's the perfect meal after a few beers, and it tastes amazing.
