if you have not ever ordered a tuna sub from dibella's, don't!! i paid $17.00 for a tasteless tuna sub (1/2 tsp mayo, 6 pieces of shredded lettuce, no seasoning whatsoever, and tomato that they would win an award for by slicing them thinner than a sheet of paper!! the cheese a well will sit right alongside the award-winning tomato!!!! they should be ashamed of themselves for screwing customers like this. first and last time i would ever order from them. the ends of the sub had absolutely no tuna or any garnish whatsoever!!!!! no sane person would ever return to this establishment. i might add the drill sgt at the register is quite a charmer...........................................nancy read more

Normally I love this place but my last order experience was awful. 20 minutes for a medium meatball. They had 6 people behind counter and 3 in store customers. Server took order milled around awhile then looked liked he was mopping floor then forgot what bread I asked for then seem to need help with making the sub that took all of a minute to put together. Others were running circles around him putting online or call ahead orders together I'm truly sad how this server seem to not know what he was doing or just being lazy. The rumors are true: Boston has mediocre pizza and subs. Simple as that. I moved there for six years and have just returned to Rochester, and Dibella's tastes like heaven - partially because I've been fed junk in Boston for years now. How great can it be? It's just a friggon sandwich, right? Go and get one. The bread is super fresh. All the condiments are unique and fresh. They give you a generous portion of meat, but without completely overloading it like Wegman's usually does, and the sub is still monstrous. The meat itself is excellent. They used to have great food... Before I was gluten free... Now, there is nothing here that doesn't have gluten, except the bottled water. If you are gluten free, this isn't the place for you. If you aren't, they have awesome food. read more

DiBella's makes a great submarine sambug, which is why I give it 4 stars. However, I have two problems with DiBella's. 1. The meat is always jammed deep into the crevice of the sub, so you can never get all the items on your sub in a single bite. Sure, it's not the end of the world, and maybe I just suck at eating (I feel like I'm pretty decent at it bc I do it a bunch), but I'd really enjoy all my toppings in each bite. 2. These subs wreck the roof of my mouth. Again, this could be me. Maybe I have a soft roof, or my bites are too big and I don't chew well...I don't know. I just know that my roof is always scraped up like I just ate a bag of glass. All in all, DiBella's is a Roc staple and, despite my whiney bullets above, it's awesome. read more

No. Dibellas used to be great, but now they are just full of themselves. There are tons of better places to get great subs now, at better prices! Came in here earlier this year, and they were out of rolls for the subs. Really? You have a bakery in-house. They offered a couple behind me vouchers for free subs, but not me! DiBella's is the best sub I have ever had in my life. I'm from Boston, and I agree that it is hard to get both a good slice, and a good sub in this town. Why is that????? DiBella's needs to open a place here! Every time I go to Rochester I do three things: 1-get a garbage plate. 2-go to the record archive or the HOG. 3-get a DiBella's sub!!! The secret is the bread. Baked fresh at DiBella's all throughout the day. This aint no subway roll, bleaacchhh. I don't know if they put an eggwash on the bread but it's got a shiny brown coating on it that is really good. The next secret to a DiBella's sub is the condiments: all kinds of mustard and their oil is tops. I prefer honey mustard and a thin coating of mayonnaise. Secret # 3: peppers!! They have sweet, hot, and banana. you gotta get the bananas! They are those awesome sliced, neon yellow peppers that add just the right amount of kick to any sub. DiBella's does not skimp on the fillings...many layers of top-quality meat and cheese make these subs the best around. Average prices for incredible sandwiches, corny 1950's decor with black and white tiled floor and wooden booths, but nobody comes here for the decor, they are comin' here for SUBS!! read more

I got terrible service here tonight. Walk in to pick up a to go order and did not get acknowledged by any of the 4 staff members. I got the dibella's dip and didn't get the au jus that comes with the sandwiches until I reminded them. I also paid an extra $2 for my dad to get extra meat on his sandwich and it was just as thin as usual. I used to love coming here but it has just gone down hill in quality of food and staffing lately. read more

Seriously, this place makes the best subs I have ever had. Everyone owes it to their selves to try a sub with the "everything" roll at least once. It is soooo good. Here, you pick everything that comes on your sandwich, and as many veggies and condiments as you want. If you like hot stuff, they have really good hot peppers. The red ones. Also they have the best sub oil. Subway has NOTHING on this place. You have to try it, you will never go to subway again. The only complaint I have about this place is that if you call in an order, sometimes they mess up the veggies that you want on it or put them on the wrong sub. But that can happen anywhere. I particularly LOVE the Dibella on Ridgeway Avenue in Greece... why? Because the staff is always smiling yet very professional serving you and making your sub a masterpiece. Sometimes I don't even know what I want and they do the run down... now that makes me feel special because they take time to see what I want. I can never move away from Rochester because I can't live without Dibella's. It is the best sub shop EVER. Their rolls are fresh and have the golden outside crust with a soft bread inside. I'm partial to the sesame seed roll. They have the perfect bread to meat to veggie ratio - every bite is superb. I usually stick with what I love most - a turkey sub with all the fixings. The tuna is good too. Plus, the 50s decor adds a little fun to your visit. The people working there are busy so I understand that they aren't going to be super friendly...but they do teeter the line of impatient and downright hostile. This is a great sub shop. Nice seating area, kind of 1940's look to it. The bread is made in the restaurant and is great. The meatball subs are out of this world. Decent prices with plenty to eat. About 20 years ago there was only one of these shops open and it was small and in Henrietta, the owner, Joe Dibella was there making the subs and talked about his Grandma's Choc Chip recipe and how good they were. He was right they were great. He always had his blue Harley parked right out front on the sidewalk, kind of cool deal. He did well and now has many shops and his subs are even found at Wegman's Stores. Check it out, you will be pleased. read more

What a shame, this place actually has great food but the service is horrible! The first time I went in I thought the employee was having a bad day and that was why he was so rude to everyone. I couldn't believe when I went the second time I was treated the same way by a different employee. I was also over charged for my order and the manager told me she fixed it on my credit card but she never gave me a receipt she just held up the receipt to show me and said, "I couldn't have it but just look at it"...lol. The money I was overcharged never went back on my credit card so I paid $30.00 for 1 and 1/2 subs and to be treated like garbage. I won't give this place another try, twice is enough for me and I'll be sure to spread the word the food isn't worth the abuse and the trouble!! read more

i was in rochester on business and was told of this place from the client we were visiting. i agree with all the reviews. i had to take away 1 star, which i feel kinda bad about, but they have only one vegetarian option. and all it has is lettuce, tomato, onions and cheese. but seriously, it sounds like it shouldn't be good, but the bread and that olive-oil sauce make it still amazingly delicious and satisfying. if i ate meat, it'd probably be a 5 star (everyone said the french dip was top notch). but i gotta give em something to shoot for. it's a small chain so might be hard to implement new things, but if they could get a more solid veggie sandwich (maybe some grilled bell peppers and mushrooms) i'd give it the last star. really, it deserves 4 1/2 on the bread and sauce alone. (i'm sure i'd have been chased out of town for being vegetarian in rochester, home of the garbage plate) read more
