Small but mighty Italian Deli. I stopped by and ordered an Italian sub my first time. It wasn't loaded like other well known places but the quality was outstanding. The smell of fresh bread and great cold cuts brought me back to the first time I had an Italian Sub as a kid. I have been back a few times making a special detour just to have another one. Today I stopped by again for another and also bought a prepared meal of Ziti and Meatballs with some fresh bread. I normally don't order anybody's prepared meals because I'm always disappointed with the sauce or meatballs, being a chef myself. This time was different. Everything tasted like home at Grandma's and I was again impressed. I will be back over and over, even if it is a ride from Billerica just to enjoy a great home tasting meal. The place is very clean, and for a food establishment this is already a plus. The deli has a very variety of meats, and also speak (kind of smoked prosciutto) and Prosciutto Cotto. The bread is crunchy and I wish it would be more consistent in quality everyday. So am psyched to get a small sub. Always really good....well today I could have DIED! I ordered a small salami & provolone with tomatoes, pickles & light onion with oil & vinegar. The guy and I joke cuz they don't have oil and vinegar but have a house dressing (same thing). He asks 2 more times what is on my sandwich....I drive back to work (Wakefield) and delve into my lunch as I'm starving and have been thinking about this sandwich for a couple of days.....well there are NO tomatoes (I stopped watching him make it and went to the register stupid me!) AND MAYO, which I am ALLERGIC too!!!!! And not just a little mayo but GOBS of it! So went here the other day with hubby to share a veal parm sub, based on recommendations from friends/family. We were truly disappointed. Most of the veal was extremely tough and chewy. My husband couldn't eat his half at all. I had very few tender pieces. On the positive side, the roll was very good as were the roasted red peppers and cheese, and marinara sauce. Gluten-free UN-FRIENDLY. The female owner or manager is very helpful and friendly and specifically offered to make single size entrees with gluten-free pasta as long as I called in advance. But when other staff members (including the male owner) answer the phone or wait on me, it's a different story. Not only do they say "No can do" -- they are decidedly NOT nice about it. Third time I've been to this well known and liked deli today. Unfortunately, I feel like I was given a very small amount of roast beef in my sandwich which is especially annoying considering 7.50 flat rate. There was a new guy who made the sandwich and I hope he knows to become more generous in the future. I'd say I got three slices of roast beef , which is half of what I'd expect. Delicious deli! And they have flavored wraps, offering wheat, spinach and tomato basil which is hard to find in many sub shops. I ordered two chicken salad wraps on spinach and they were scrumptious. The first time I came the food and service were so good I didn't mind paying Boston prices for a sandwich. That has since changed. Last time I went we ordered a roast beef sub and a chicken cutlet sub. The roast beef sub was done in 2 minutes, while the chicken cutlet sub took a while. It was understandable because they apparently cook the chicken to order, this is a bonus in my book, but that's where it ends. I was waiting and waiting and waiting without so much of a "hang on, it will be right out!" or "I'm cooking the chicken". The girl that helped us was too busy talking to her co-worker and running in the backroom. FINALLY I saw her walk back our front with the chicken to assemble the sub and what happens? She coughs. Not a complete turn around and cough, not a total cough all over my food, but enough to cause my friend and I to look at each other with the "did that just happen?" face. Expectation was high based on Yelp reviews. I got italian sub which was a special that day. It looked a lot better than it tasted. Bread was very dense and it was too much of it. Pickled peppers were neither hot nor sour enough. Meat looked good but I could not taste it because there was so little of it. I wont come back. read more

DiCara's catered our company open house this past weekend and everyone was raving about the food. They served over 150 people and it was sincerely very well received. From the 5 foot subs to the hot Italian trays of food, it was enjoyed by all. We had their food before but were pleased that they were able to accommodate such a large group. Located near the Home Goods in an unassuming plaza, Dicara's has a great assortment of prepared foods, European delights, cheeses and home made subs and sandwiches. Don't be put off by the line, especially around lunchtime, as it moves super fast and every time I've been there have been at least three employees making sandwiches. Great selection. You can get a traditional sub or get it on a roll. They slice the meat right in front of you and really know how to make a delicious sub. I've gotten the turkey twice and they always put in the right amount of pickles and tomatoes and a lot of turkey. They have some interesting meats too so it's not just the usual if you're looking for something different. It usually is crowded but there's plenty of parking outside in a lot and the prices are really good for the food items. Some of the other items like European cookies are a bit more than I'd like to pay but I appreciate the unique items they have for sale. We had DiCara's cater a collation service we had at our church and it absolutely wonderful; can't speak highly enough about the professionalism and SERVICE Mark and Jill offered. The food was delicious and the services equally as good. When I called to get a price, Mark ended the conversation by stating "thank you for considering us". Sooo delicious and very nice staff! We had the panini special and the Rocket salad with grilled chicken and both were super yummy. After a few minutes one of the staff members came over saying that they accidentally put the wrong chicken on the salad (even though it was still great) and brought over a new batch of chicken along with a container of mini chocolate chip cookies to make up for it. It's pretty good but the meat content of the Italian subs I bought yesterday were a little on the skimpy side...but there were plenty of fixings to bulk the sandwich up. I'd have preferred a little more meat for the price. Good sandwich though, will def go back. read more

Great subs. Tuna, chicken salad are unrivaled. I recently ordered some food off of their catering menu and was greatly impressed. Prices were reasonable, portions were large. Sausage peppers and onions was a huge hit and chicken broccoli and ziti was good, but a bit light on the sauce. I would absolutely cater another function with their food! The only reason I didn't give the last star is we bought their eggplant parm for dinner once and the tomato sauce tasted sort of raw. We have had many other people tell us their sauce is delicious, so maybe it was just an off day. I would definitely try it again. read more

I chose DiCara's as our caterer for my son's 1st birthday; we had about 10 people. During my initial phone call, the person I spoke with was VERY helpful and polite. We ordered the small sizes (8-10 people) of the eggplant parm, sausage-pepper-onions, and chicken-broccoli-ziti. When we picked up the food everyone who worked there was very nice; one of them even carried the food out to my car. All of the food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. I would have given them 5 stars but the eggplant needed to be reheated even though I was clear when I ordered that I needed the food hot and ready to serve and I only live 5 minutes away. However, all of the positives definitely outweigh that one negative. I would definitely order from them again. read more

This place is the bomb! I work in North Reading about a mile from this little deli, but often drive to Andover, Wilmington, Woburn, Reading for lunch as North Reading has limited lunch options. Let me tell you, within the area, this is the best. Boar's Head meats, just good quality sandwiches, no cheap sub shop bs. They helped me through a difficult time by offering suggestions of finger sandwiches, Mediterranean platter, salads and desserts. My guests were impressed with how fresh and delicious the food was. Saw this little deli on Main st in Reading many times and finally decided to go in. I'm glad I did. First thing I noticed about it was the cleanliness of the place, it is immaculate.Secondly you are greeted with a friendly hello, how are you today. Then there's the food....I got a roast beef and cheese on a braided Roll , and was not disappointed ,meat sliced fresh, not like most other sandwich shops that have everything pre-sliced, and when I asked if I could have Havarti on it instead of american it was not a problem. The only one drawback ( minor) is the lack of seating, 2 small tables is all, But that is surely not a deal breaker, I noticed that they also have meals to go which I cannot wait to try,Overall a wonderful little deli, I will be returning for sure. read more
