I was surfing Yelp for dinner ideas when a one-star review jumped out at me! "how does that even happen... smh" it said. Sounded serious!!! Time to investigate! I donned my mask and headed down... I've been to several Dickey's BBQs in different locations, and something just didn't seem right. When I arrived (first time I've been to this location), a thought occurred to me... does it have a drive up window? I walked around back and confirmed - no drive up window. I entered through the side door, went to the counter, and placed an order for a three meat plate... to go. The friendly staff got started on it right away. While they were working on my order, I went over to the well labeled and well placed BBQ Sauce station that was maybe five feet from the counter, grabbed two cups with lids and filled each cup with sauces of my choice (they have three different varieties), I filled one cup up with Original and the other cup up with Spicy. Great sauces! My order was ready shortly after I filled my cups, so I paid and bailed. At home, I peeked in the bag and, yep, those cups I filled were still there! I pulled the meats, sides and sauces out of the bag... opened the meats... mmmm, smelled good! No sauce on it yet, though... I sampled each of the meats and thought to myself - "damn, even without sauce, this meat is tender, juicy and flavorful - well above one star even without the sauce"... then, I did something magical - I opened one of the sauce cups and poured the sauce on the meat - bam!! Great stuff! I believe they do have sauce packets behind the counter that are added to takeout orders upon request. Maybe they should have been offered, but it's not hard to imagine staff forgetting to say something when the majority of people familiar with Dickey's get their own sauces (the lids for the cups aren't there for dine-in orders). Honestly great food.. when they have it. But they are always out of everything. I think it's been over 4 years since I have been able to order baked potato during dinner time. And I think it's funny that they added a whole chain that is baked potato based because they literally never have them. But then to top off how bad it has been for YEARS! I ordered 24 pc of chicken wings from 'Wing Boss' on Grubhub to try something new besides Wing Stop. However, I didn't realize it was just an extension of Dickey's BBQ. The boneless wings were a letdown--more like soggy chicken nuggets. They tasted like they came from McDonald's with some added flavoring. And to top it off, I ordered Cajun fries but got tater tots instead. If you're thinking of trying a different wing spot, save yourself the disappointment and stick with what you know. With that, when my order was ready, I left it there and walked out...I will never return to any Dickies restaurant as the last thing I want is food poisoning and I will be sure to warn others. The pork was very tender, delicious, my young children enjoyed it. The brisket however was a little tough since it was overdone, but still had good flavor. This is our second visit to this location, and unfortunately, we've been let down both times. Hoping our previous disappointment was a one-off, we decided to give it another try, but after this experience we will not be returning. We placed a curbside order for 1:45pm, arriving and waiting in our car since 1:25pm. However, 1:45pm passed without any communication. Eventually, at 1:55pm, we called to ask about our order. The person on the phone seemed confused and didn't know about the order. After a minutes he informed us that it was ready and would be brought out. A few minutes later he brought our order out. Upon receiving it we discovered our drinks were forgotten. He went back in and returned with our drinks. The tea provided was warm and not even filled completely. We really loved that Dickey's in Carson sells smoked Turkey. If you have never had the smoked Turkey give it a try. The turkey is one of my favorites. It's gone downhill in the last few months. Long wait times comparable to a busy sit down restaurant, constantly out of items, only one visible person on staff even during peak hours. Staff don't even have coverage for breaks, so the store effectively closes for breaktimes. Dickey's corporate needs to get involved. This place used to have customers, but every time I go by it's dead and looks like it's more being used as a tax write-off for business losses. read more

We used to go to the Dickey's in Reno many years ago. We were in Carson City and just finished watching a musical. We were hungry. When we arrived there was no one there. The place looked a bit dirty. However, a friendly gentleman greeted us very welcoming from behind the counter. My husband wanted to leave but I was hungry and wanted to give them a try again. We looked over the menu. Prices had gone up quite a bit. We decided on the family pack deal that included 2 meats, a number of sides and rolls. The guy who greeted us was the one cutting up the meat. Another friendly woman did the sides and cashed us out. We got our food pretty quick. All of it was real good however I wanted to say that the prices of the sides ran around $7 or more. The amount you got definitely is not worth it. The rolls also got smaller than years ago. The meat and portion for the cost I believe was worth it. So all in all service was great and so was the meat. Disappointed with the cost of the sides and the smaller rolls. These 2 were the only 2 there so I can see why the place needed cleaning. January 23, 2016 My brother is moving, and my brother in law and I have volunteered to help. My brother, like most of us, has collected a variety of items, and it seems that many of them are very near the threshold of weight that I'm able to comfortably move, and, some, frankly, are too heavy for me. That's the backdrop to some serious hunger, and when we finally got to the point where we were thinking about lunch, there was about 15 minutes of, 'what idea do you have'? I don't know why it took so long; Dickey's should have been on our minds for hours. It was my first visit, and, having gone once now, I know I'll be back. On this visit I had the two meat meal, and I chose the pulled pork and the brisket, along with a side of Jalapeño beans and a Caesar Salad. If you've not been before, know that they have a condiment station similar to a Starbucks. You get to choose the sauces that you'd like, mix them up if you want (I chose the spicy one and mixed it with the house sauce on this occasion), and they also have a free ice cream machine that you can access. The meat was nice. It was moist, tasted good, and was so tender it fell apart easily. There was no fight involved, and, after moving heavy stuff for four or five hours, I totally appreciated this. The Caesar was nothing special, and I love beans, but these did not do the trick for me either. Next time I'll try some different sides. Having now been to a few bbq places, this one was the cleanest. Clearly they are making an effort to help people feel comfortable in the place, and I did. The other establishments I've been to have great food, but many were very sketchy about their cleanliness. If clean and neat is important to you, they've got you covered here. I had food DoorDash to my house. I realize that when you order online sometimes your order gets a little muddled. But I didn't get anything I asked for. I got a three meat platter, asking for pulled pork, chopped brisket, and kielbasa with baked potato casserole, and baked beans as my side, I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie. I received a very dried up end of a rib and sliced brisket with potato salad and green beans and no cookie at all. I went into the restaurant at 4 PM on March 11, and ordered for takeout, the 1 meat, 2 sides, and added on a baker (potato) which totaled over $50. When I returned home, I discovered that the young man who cut the brisket had included a huge chunk of fat, as well as something that looked like "already been chewed" meat. I have gone here now a few times. Every time they are out of something. Yesterday it was Mac n Cheese which is a deal breaker for me. Some of the staff is good but yesterday's staff was slow and did not seem to really care or want to be there. The staff there last week was great and very helpful- left a big tip. Food each time unappetizing, kind of dry, overcooked, not much flavor. The takeout bag was greasy X2, I mean that the bag itself externally was greasy from being handled by employees with greasy hands.
