I agree with the comments regarding the customer service . It's like these kids were forced to be there and have no facial expressions. I did walk into a "Welcome to Dickeys" , however I would have felt more welcomed if it came with a smile! For being a family business you would think it would feel like that when ur there . Food was good. A little over priced but it's no fried chicken bucket so you have to pay a little more . Serving sizes don't seem like a lot but actually are pretty filling. No rush to go back but if I was in the mood for BBQ I may consider.... Trying some place else first . read more

I have been to other Dickey's before and I was excited when I learned this one opened up in my neighborhood! I was pleasantly surprised on how much better my experience was at this location than I have had at the other restaurants. I feel people are more likely to complain rather than praise but this one definitely deserves praise. The service was fast, courteous, and excellent. There's nothing more discouraging than a noticeably unhappy employee serving you and this place definitely has upbeat and personable employees. I highly value customer service above all else because it's hard to find. The food was great, I don't know if I was really hungry but the food seemed fresher than I've had at other bbq restaurants . I ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket, pulled pork, Mac and cheese, and green beans with bacon. The meat was authentic, tender, tasty and juicy and the green beans were awesome. My only concern was the mac and cheese. It still tasted great but it left me desiring a better quality. Nothing could ever replace my great grandmother's southern cooking but this comes close and it makes me reminisce of my overweight, but joyful, childhood. I've been here twice and each time I saw the owner making sure everything was in perfect order and it really seemed he was investing himself to his business. He even made sure everything was to my upmost satisfaction. I appreciate a owner who is hands on and takes pride in his business. It's not often I'm a fan of restaurant chains, but Dickey's was able to maintain quality while still having numerous locations. This Dickey's is definitely a role model for other Dickey's to follow. I will definitely be coming back to this Dickey's and they've earned a loyal customer. I definitely recommend this to anyone who's a fan of barbecue. Greeted us when we walked in. Always polite workers who communicate and ask Q to clarify. Great daily specials-that's how I choose when to come. I enjoy their ribs & sampled my son's Westerner-tasty. Sides: mac n cheese, cabbage slaw, creamed spinach were all good. Iced tea is really good (they have the "good ice") small, not huge cubes. If you save room-free soft serve cones of vanilla ice cream. What a great post-work out meal. read more

This is NOT BBQ. No smoke flavor at all. Barely a smoke ring o. The BBQ rib plate. I only taste pepper. BBQ beans are just ok. Nothing to write home about. The three BBQ sauces they offer are either bland, too sweet or too spicy with no flavor (and I eat spicy food primarily). Let's put it this way. I need to use store bought BBQ sauce from my refrigerator and added some Sriracha to make eating this "BBQ" manageable. Cesar salad is their best item that I have tried so far. Not sure if I will be back to try the brisket. This is not BBQ. The staff was very kind and energetic. I love Dickey's for hiring good people. Maybe the food will get better once some of the kinks are worked out. We'll see, maybe. For now, I'll stick to Bonnie B's and Rodney's Ribs BBQ in the Pasadena/SGV area. read more

Yesterday was my first time trying this place. I called ahead and ordered take out. The guy on the phone told me to come in 10 minutes. So I made it in 10 minutes and I waited in line for about 5 minutes. I noticed there were about 6 people there and they didn't even make my food yet! I specifically called ahead for a reason. I also was craving mac and cheese and they waited until after I paid and until THE VERY LAST MINUTE to tell me they ran out. I had just seen the last scoop of Mac and cheese go out to someone else who just arrived and placed an order there. Then they proceeded to ask me if I would be willing to substitute a different side. For a new restaurant, you should prioritize customer's needs and if someone calls on the phone ahead of time, you should prepare the food! Not after they arrive and not after they had already paid! This is so unprofessional. In addition, the price for the food is too much. The meat is extremely dry. I got the pulled pork, beef brisket, and honey ham 3 meat plate and a brownie. The total was almost 18 dollars! The portion for the meat was so little as well! It was just a scoop of each and 3 slices of ham! In this economy, it's not worth wasting my time or money. I only gave this 2 stars because my other side, the potato casserole was actually a large scoop and very tasty. Their rolls are also super dry and hard and bland! Since they were fully staffed, they didn't keep forks station full. A lot of people were waiting for the front cashier to refill the forks. Other than that I would only ever return to buy one side of potato casserole because at least it's 3 dollars. I may return for Mac and cheese if they ever have any. So very unsatisfied. read more

I'm really glad I tried this place before I read the reviews on here. The food is great. I tried the brisket and ribs with Mac and cheese and fried okra. The meat was tender and flavorful. The staff was friendly and helpful. Especially the guy who started off our order. On pricing, I have paid a lot more for lower quality BBQ. The total was $23 for my son and I with drinks. One of my coworkers,has been raving about Dickeys since he first heard it was opening up.Having worked in Duarte,for the better part of 20 years now,I'm always looking for something new to have for lunch. I won't give my review based on the opening day,because it was a fiasco,in my opinion.There was adequate staff,but the main drawback,is that there is only 1 register.And on busy days,like opening day,when the line can go to the back,or front of the store,its a massive nuisance.And 40 minutes in line,with 5 people in front of me,usually would have made me leave,but I had ordered,they prepared it,and I didn't want to just bail. Fast Forward to Tuesday,the following week.Place is dead empty.It seems,free food,or discounted,and drinks go a long way to slamming a place with business.There is no line,and a few tables have patrons enjoying their BBQ.This time,5 minutes was my wait from order,to exiting.That's do-able. Inside Dickey's,you have roughly a dozen or so tables,bordered by the counter and the drink/condiment section.There is also free soft serve right next to the drinks.Around the corner from that,the restrooms.It's a fairly standard eatery. The counter is set up like that of a Subway,Qdoba,Pieology service area.Approach the counter,tell them what you want,and they serve it up and you pay.But as I mentioned,1 register.In my work area,all the above mentioned spots,have 2 registers for those busy times.The staff seems a bit green to handle a large rush.That will for sure change as they get more experience. This is what I have tried so far Pulled Pork:Pretty standard as far as pulled pork goes.It has been a little fatty though Brisket:Really tasty. Polish Sausage:Slightly spicy,and has good flavor. Green beans with bacon:Not sure what was going on here.Had a weird flavor to them,and spicy. Mac and Cheese:A bit too creamy,and not really cheesy. Cole Slaw:Had onions in it...One bite,tossed. Potato Salad:I'm not a huge fan of Potato Salad,but this had some intense flavor.I dig it. They have 3 BBQ sauces,of which I have tried 2.The normal and the spicy.The normal was great,the spicy wasn't that great.Next time,I'll grab some of the sweet that was also on deck.Also of note,the meat all comes sauceless,which allows you to control how much you want on it,or even at all. Price wise?Dickeys is a bit high.I only have tried the meat plates,which have from 1-3 meats,2 sides and a biscuit.And those run 12-14 dollars,no drink included.The meat from the 2 meat plate filled up the container,and so did the 3 meat plate selections.The amount of meat seemed to be the same regardless.And the slap a few pickled and raw onion slices on top as a garnish.I didnt care for the pickled juice mingling with my pork.Next time,I'll request it be left off. read more

Stopped by and grabbed a picnic pack for the fam: brisket, potatoes, bbq beans, and bread, and a chicken sandwich for me (no sides). The meat was flavorful, smokey, and tender. Hubby loved the beans and the girls enjoyed the potatoes. The staff could improve their attitude, although not rude, they wore flat and unresponsive faces. The place was pretty busy. My girls are looking forward to trying out the Mac-n-Cheese and the hubby the jalapeño beans. read more

What a rip off. The food was not worth what they are charging. Tip: DON'T get the Family Packs. Please do the math. I'm a fan. Their rib meat has very little fat and is full of good flavors. The chicken I had was moist and tasty, and for sides, I love the taste of their creamed spinach and their jalapeño beans (they were not available for a while but am SO GLAD they're back!). This place is spectacular, it's clean, roomy, kid friendly, great seating to view televisions in place. The staff is outstanding they great you with a smile even when walk through door 3 min before closing (that happen to my husband and I twice). We were more than ready to take it to go, they insisted we stay and eat. The food is flavorful, and very tender, not dry, nor over cooked. I was craving BBQ and in this neighborhood, so I ordered online via Yelp/Grubhub. I ordered 4 kinds of pig. All were delicious and good cuts of meat. This is definitely some solid BBQ. This is the first time I am at the Duarte location. The last time I was eating at Dickey's Barbecue was in the San Dimas location. We ordered the sliders combo with two pull pork and one chicken. It comes with a free drink. The other order was 1/2 pound slow smoked beef brisket. The young men working there were smiling most of the time and clearly explain the menu. They come by and clean the table as soon as the customer left. We were informed with the complimentary ice cream when we pay. The beef brisket was not as good as the one I ordered from San Dimas because it was pulled apart as pull pork style. San Dimas was slice in a whole piece and keep the meat more moist. The meat tasted better with the barbecue sauce. We ordered the pecan but we end up have to take it home since it was so much meat to eat. We will come back to try the ribs. read more

Yuck and the guy at the register came back and fourth to the fryer handling money and fryer I think gloves are there for a purpose they should definitely watch and make sure they always change their gloves before handling food . The beef brisket that I have tried was great. Very moist and juicy. The side orders were great as well. Loved the workers and their honesty of what is good that day. Just finishing up dinner now and my boyfriend is adamant about me writing a review immediately because he loved it. The chicken sriracha taco blew his socks off. We also got the western sandwich and, while a little dry on its own, once we put their spicy BBQ sauce on it, it was amazing.
