I would choose Dickey's over Wood Ranch any day. If you're looking for ambience, this might disappoint you because it isn't hip or trendy. But the quality is good and reasonably priced. For catering: They're great! I've ordered catering here a couple of times and was very pleased with (a) delivery services; (b) the quantity and quality of meat they provide; and (c) overall affordability. However, I have one complaint: they don't give you a lot of bread--they apportion only one (small) bread roll per person! What? But then again, they compensate for it with loads and loads of potato salad--they probably figured you should curb your carb intake, anyway. And did I mention the baked beans? They give you a lot! On dining-in: I have really enjoyed coming in to dine as well--casual atmosphere and simple, uncomplicated but enough-choices menu. Our first time here. We weren't sure how to order and the young lady wasn't very helpful or friendly. She was busy with another order. We ordered a 2-meat plate and brisket Mac stack. I'm not a huge bbq fan but my son is. The brisket was really tasty and moist. My son ordered ribs and jalapeño cheddar sausage but ended up with either pulled pork or brisket and ribs. We didn't say anything bc we didn't want to be a bother. We weren't feeling the friendly vibe from the two employees. All in all the good was good. I wanted Dickies today and I was so disappointed in what I got I spent over $40. I ordered 2 2 meats plates and one was supposed to a double order of sliced brisket and the other was ribs and sliced brisket. But I Received chopped brisket. So I called them to tell about the order for the person on the phone to tell me cook couldn't slice the meat so they gave us chopped brisket. They felt like that was ok and it Wasn't. This place is in the Target Center. Next to the Radio Shack. These employees are super nice here. They let me try the meats before I decided. I went with the Westerner with 2 meats! I got the 2 sides and both were very good. That plus a drink =$16. Good meat isn't cheap! Free soft serve is cool. You see the employees enjoying on their break so you know it's good. Service is horrible. Picked up a mobile order here and waited forever. They did not even start prepping my order until I got there and it still took forever. There were 3 employees worked at the counter and very few customers in the store. No one seemed to know what they were doing. I had a retirement luncheon to supply food for 50+ corn fed industrial workers. I ordered 5 of the Dickey's party platter s and purchased some chicken ala cart. The platters each came with 4lbs of pulled pork and brisket along with baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, biscuits and paper goods. Dickey's came out and delivered and setup the food. This saved me the drive and hassle of doing it myself. The food was very tasty! Great flavor and not overly smoked. The chicken was very tender and had a great flavor. All the sides were just as tasty too. There was plenty of chicken and shredded pork left over, the brisket was gone within minutes. I would definitely have Dickey's cater our next event. read more

I recently spotted this place when my wife was shopping next door at Target. For starters, I have heard of Dickey's BBQ Pit (there is a branch here in San Diego) but I never got around to actually trying it. Anyway I needed to fill up on a good lunch before making the trek home to San Diego & needed some new Yelp material to write a review so it was game on. I walked up & peered though the glass door earlier in the morning but it was closed & there were no hours of business posted on the door. A quick search on the cell phone indicated that they would be open at 11am. At 11:15am I walk through the door & a guy behind the counter said "So you decided to come back. I saw you looking through the door earlier." Yep, that was me I said. I forget to get his name but I assumed he was the manager. Anyway I told him we were from San Diego & that it was my first time there so I was a little clueless on what to order. He made some suggestions & we placed our order. Me & the wife settle on the 3 meat plate with 2 sides. We chose pork ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, beans & I believe a baked potato casserole? So I go to a vacant table & wait for my grub. The place seemed really clean & customer service was warm & friendly. I saw that they had several different kinds of BBQ sauces: regular, sweet, & spicy. I tried the regular & sweet sauce. The bbq sauce was thin in consistency & the regular sauce had more of a vinegary Carolina style flavor. The sweet sauce had more of a Kansas City flavor to it which is the taste I most prefer. The food arrives & I dig in. Pulled pork, ribs, and beef brisket were hot, tender, juicy and most importantly not dry or overcooked. I could also taste some smoke flavor in the brisket. The beans were yummy & the baked potato casserole as recommended by the manger was a hit! It reminded me of garlic mashed potatoes. Portion size was acceptable & overall I was very satisfied with what was on my plate. My wife also agreed with my conclusions. We also treated ourselves to some free vanilla ice cream in a cone to top off a hearty & satisfying lunch. The manager or the person who appeared to be the head honcho (sorry I didn't get your name!) dropped by to ask me how the food was. A gave him a thumbs up & chatted with him some more. I told him I have a Yelp account & would give him a favorable rating. He talked about how brutal some Yelp reviews could be. I told him I try to rate businesses based on realistic expectations. So what did I think of Dickey's? I feel comfortable giving them 4 solid stars based on service & food. Dickey's is a bbq chain of restaurants so I can not directly compare them to some of the competition caliber level of bbq I have sampled back south. BBQ on that level is extremely labor intensive and time consuming to make. Although Dickey's will not reach that level, it will still leave you with a smile & some good tasting "cue" that will satisfy your cravings. Oh yeah, you also get a cool souvenir cup to take home. I will be back in Monrovia in early November. I'm looking forward to a repeat visit at Dickey's BBQ! read more

I know it's not good food, and that's ok. But I didn't expect to come in and be served fridge temperature food from a girl who was obviously inconvenienced by my family coming to eat. If it wasn't for my remaining 2 Groupons from the 3 pack I'd never come back, but now I have to waste a few more dollars because I won't even give these away to friends or family and have them waste their money in here. This was mine and my family's first time at this Dickey's. I was craving ribs and we were in the area and decided to give them a try and I am beyond happy that we did. The ribs are DELICIOUS and HUGE, not like those other places where they skimp out on meat and serve you pretty much bones! We were planning to go to Sonic Burgers, but seeing the number of cars there and knowing the wait times, we decided to just go to Dickey's. I should have read the reviews beforehand. The ribs were okay. They barely fall off,decent flavor, but it taste like I could easily buy BBQ sauce from the 99 cent store and make this myself. We also ordered the brisket, and it absolutely overdone and dried. If you're going to make overdone and dry beef. There was almost ZERO FAT in it at all. Either they cooked it way overdone and all the fat melted, or they chose a low quality grade of beef that has very little marbling. Brisket is one of the most challenging meats to cook and master. Sides all were hot, as should be. All the meats were served nearly STONE COLD. As a consequence, all the meat is dry and has that old, leftover bbq taste. Everyone is raving for this place but its probably because there are hardly any BBQ places locally so their options are limited. I will say that the two workers are fast and seem to like working there. So I'll give them credit on great service. The review is for the food alone. It was just super SUPER bland. I came in to try Dickey's because I had to stop at Target and it's conveniently located near it. For starters, I am never one to really complain about customer service, especially at a place where the whole staff looked like a bunch of teenagers. With that being said, it wouldn't hurt to crack a smile, everyone behind the counter looked like a robot. Also I noted behind the counter was extremely messy. I also went to the BBQ sauce station and each sauce was pretty much empty and area near it was also poorly maintained. We ordered two one meat combos which are about $12 a piece and after first the cashier tried to charge us $43. She fixed it, but paying attention to small details goes a long way in my book. It just seems like the staff needs to get into the swing of things here. Now on to the food. I ordered the beef brisket thought it tasted decent after I drenched it in their BBQ sauce. The portions are also on the smaller side. My boyfriend and I both ordered the beef brisket and the meat cutter simply pulls it out of container, unwraps then weighed it. I could tell he thought my boyfriends meat was on the smaller side and just sorta shrugged it off and hoped we wouldn't complain. The rolls are also super bland and have no wow factor. This is so sad from top to bottom. The staff seems lifeless, and what I presume to be the franchise owner sits at a table with this cold blooded scowl on his face. The ribs are tough, they leave the silver skin on, which is a bbq sin. The counter with the soda machine and condiments look like a bomb went off. Compared to any other Duarte fast food, the prices are high. The place is mostly empty and I think the things I've mentioned are the reason why. Service isn't the greatest. Be sure to be patient when ordering your food and being helped. The TV menus can be frustrating. It changes screens and takes a while to go back so you're standing there holding up the line. I so wanted to 5 star this place but maybe that will come on my next visit. Meat quality is very good, I personally loved the pulled pork and the bbq sauces are very good. I prefer the standard bbq sauce, great flavor. If you don't like spicy stuff, stay away from the spicy bbq sauce, it's insanely hot! The meat has great smoky flavor which I honestly didn't expect from a small chain bbq restaurant. Was very pleased to say the least. Now for the cons... Some of the employees working there have no personality, no people skills! Who hired these people? Some cant even crack a fake smile, come on people!! Management really needs to pay attention to their employees interaction with customers. The ones with the worst service are the ones cutting the meat. Portions are not that big so that makes what you pay for the food... A bit over priced. They weigh the meat, who's idea was that? Makes them look cheap! I requested to be served a little more because the portion I got was ridiculous. With all that said though, I have to say this is probably the best bbq spot within at least a 10 mile radius. First couple of times my wife and I went there we had great brisket sandwichs, the last time we were there, we were surprised, it was run by a bunch of kids, we had a hard time getting across what we wanted, not everybody wants the special with two sides, we got the food very quickly, we found out why when we got to the table, the brisket was pre- measured, in a cold patty form, the onion tanglers we cold and their response was, that's the way they come. Had to ask for lemons and pickles they had put away already. Not sure if this is normal practice. There were two employees there that I saw and the place was nearly empty. One other family was there eating. I mentioned they changed the menu and guy said they did it in September, 2016. Placed my order. Paid. Got mediocre service. Thought since the only interaction we have with staff is during ordering, that they'd be nicer, have smiles, etc., but maybe I have high expectations. Had to ask for onions that used to come on the tray, but I guess that changed since September? Food is good. Favorite little square ice cubes & free vanilla soft serve.
