Whenever I mention Dickey's on Jamacha Rd. my wife's smile touches on the back of her head. Their spicey brisket chili is to kill for. If you haven't had it, you're missing out. The pulled pork & spicy cheese sausage plate w/2 sides is my favorite for certain. Their BBQ sauces are excellent, and the spicy one is also my favorite. The staff are very friendly and offer great suggestions and samples if you haven't tried one of their awesome menu items. They're very courteous, professional and welcome us every time we return. We've been to Dickey's numerous times and will continue to enjoy their excellent food and service. You are losing money if you don't treat yourself to Dickey's for lunch or dinner soon. Tldr: over priced for poor quality and small portions. I really do not like leaving poor reviews but I would hope people read this before making the choice of ordering from or eating from Dickey's. The only real issue is the price, portions sizes, and food quality. Price is over priced for what quality of food and what portion size is provided. I was expecting better solely because of the prices but boy oh boy lmao Portion sizes were not generous but also, a bit perplexing. You get more sides then you do main entree. Well, for us, our main entree was very flimsy. When it comes down to quality, the food is, generously, a 5/10. Pulled pork was very dry, and so was the brisket. The kielbasa is thinly sliced which was weird to begin with but because they choose to slice it thinly, it dries out even quicker. The dry rub wings were so small and meatless because they too, were overcooked and dried out. Potato salad was actually good. The green beans lacked seasoning but were oily and very salty. It also mention bacon in them but there was none?? The cole slaw... I know no one likes slaw but I love slaw and this was not slaw. This was just cabbage. No carrots. No color! Hardly any sauce! So sad. You get one quite small biscuit in a meal. The biscuit was decent taste wise. Surprisingly not dry. Pecan pie was also decent. However, the chocolate chunk cookie was not cooked all the way lmao my partner told me if was very soft, and strange so I tried it and well, sweetie, that's because it wasn't baked all the way. Tasted like raw cookie dough, which is delicious but I am sure that isn't up to code. I am also surprised that the only sweet tea available is gold peak tea. That there should of been a red flag to begin with that this would not be a satisfying bbq dinner. I have been wanting to try this spot for quite a while and 10/10 was disappointed due to the food. Edit: I also want to add for any readers that Cali Comfort BBQ in Spring Valley is so much better. If you want great tasting bbq with adequate portions and your money's worth, Cali Comfort will provide that! I think Dickey's is not for me, I found it pretty bland and lacking in any flavor that would make me want to return. Nothing was terrible, it just didn't taste like anything I enjoy. My kid thought it was good though, hence the third star. Everything I tried was bland, especially the pulled pork and all the sides. The rolls were actually thrown out, I don't know that I've ever had a roll taste so dense and gross, or make a such a loud thud as it hit the bottom of the trash can. This food is incredibly mid and I'm skeptical that some of these 5 star reviews were paid for by the business lol. This food is basically exactly what I imagine getting bbq at a fast food chain would taste like. Came here cause in the mood for bbq and wanted to try something different. The portions were small considering the price. The food was just "ok". The ribs were fine I guess. The pulled pork was dry and bland. Actually don't even know how it's possible to get pork that dry tbh. That pig must have been on a diet. Tried several sauces and honestly none of them were superior to something you'd get at a grocery store. The sliced brisket sandwich was tiny and was also just average. Tried the potato casserole, potato salad, baked beans, corn bread, french fries, and Mac and cheese. The corn bread and beans were probably the best of the pack but still just average. The rest were basically just edible. The potato salad was gross. The food was edible enough that if they were the only place around I'd eat here when I was in the mood for bbq. But the problem is there's a spot called Cali comfort bbq like a 5-7 minute drive away that has actually amazing authentic bbq that makes it so it's not worth eating this stuff at all. Also I ordered the food online 30 minutes in advance and still had to wait 10 minutes when I got there. And all they did was pull it out of a warmer and scoop a couple already cooked things into a cup when they finally gave it to me. So the service wasn't even good. I've been looking forward to this Dicky's Barque Pit to open in my neck of the woods. I stopped in for an early dinner and ordered the two meat dinner plate and two sides for $12.95. I chose the smoked brisket and pulled pork for my two meats, a side of baked beans and the waffle fries for my sides. The meal also came with fresh baked roll, onions, pickles, and unlimited BBQ sauce and soft serve ice cream. Both meats were quite good and they provided a decent amount of both. I would of prefer more, but the price was fair. The brisket had a good exterior color, nice flexibility, which means would bend not break due to dryness, hence the meat retained a very good moisture level The brisket had a mild smokey flavor and a thin smoke line. It was nice to eat on its own or with a small amount of their original BBQ sauce. The pulled pulled pork was very good too. The meat was tender and flavorful, but it did not have as a smokey flavor as the brisket did. However, it did provide that great porky goodness. I used the roll to make a mini pulled pork sandwich and added the fresh cut onions and the pickles. great stuff. The waffle fries were good and came well seasoned, but they needed just a tad more time in the fryer because they did not have that golden brown color and crispiness they should have. The tasted good and I ate them with the BBQ sauce. The baked beans were very good and had a nice peppery flavor. The beans were tender and came in a great sauce. On a whim we stopped by here to pick up lunch after hiking in Jamul. The pulled pork was incredibly tender, and the original barbecue sauce was good. We've ordered a few times since covid-19 and the food has been really good. This is one of the two bbq places we will actually eat at in east county. Was pleasantly surprised to find this place in the d "strip mall" by the movie theater. My wife and I went in on just a whim. It's obviously a chain but has some respectable barbecue. We had the brisket fritos casserole (?) It was brisket fritis and beans. Surprisingly good. Also had the smoked Buffalo wings they were excellent. Nice and smoky chicken but still crispy texture. Best smoked wings I've had yet. Otjers I've tried at other places are not very crispy if they've been smoked. They hit both qualities. They have a few craft beer handles.
