I was so sad to hear this location had a devastating fire that has closed the restaurant indefinitely. We had just visited Dickey's BBQ at this location, and I had said I can't wait to go back, and that we will definitely be regulars here! I really want to start a Go Fund Me to help this franchise owner rebuild, and I just might do that. Every week, I crave Dickey's BBQ, but the closest one is over an hour away. I hope they can rebuild and return! I hope the people in Whiting and surrounding areas will support them by visiting often if they do. The food here was delicious, the owner was gracious, kind, and very accommodating, and the overall experience for us went above and beyond our expectations. Updating my review because hubby and I came here for dinner on Saturday. It was close to closing time, but I had to have bbq and I couldn't do just a review on take-out/delivery when they also have dining in. Hubby had the BBQ ribs and turkey- I have to say that often smoked turkey is very dry, but Dickey's was juicy and flavorful, in fact I ate a few bites more than I was supposed too lol. I truly enjoyed the BBQ ribs and the sliced brisket I had ordered. I think it is a great place to enjoy local bbq with friends or family, the two ladies behind the counter were friendly and really helped us out with deciding on what to order. I think the meat platter option/combos is a most excellent way to try BBQ if you haven't had it before or just want a variety that isn't too much or too little. First time eating there. Went at night while in the area, been wanting to try it out. Greeted by a nice woman and Rich at the counter. Welcoming demeanor and a smile. I decided to try the 3 meat platter as it would give me a nice sampling of their meats. RIBS -Cooked perfectly, nice smoke line visible, you can smell the BBQ in the meat. First pull with my hand, fell off the bone, easy pulled apart, and well covered with the sweet sauce. Great taste and texture, melt in your mouth ,and cooked to perfection. SLICED BRISKET- Nice size portion, 4 slices, thickness was normal, excellent pulling fell right apart with very little pressure. Taste was sweet, yet Smokey and blended well. Used a fork to cut into each piece. Another great brisket. PULLED PORK - A tad bit dry, no wet sauces on it as I wanted to sample each of the three sauces they had out for your taking. Pulled apart east, nice Smokey flavoring, dipped into each sauce, my favorite was the sweet, each sauce gives a bit of different flavors, I felt the sweet brought out more smoke Overall the pork was not bad. Next time, I'll have them mix in the sweet sauce. MAC N CHEESE- Definitely not home made, but I have had similar taste and texture at ither well inown bvq joints, not going to knock that, but if you want to stand out, make your own, make it stand out. COLE SLAW- Same sentiments at the macNcheese. FINAL THOUGHTS- over all 4 stars- I felt the brisket, and and ribs were cooked, smoked to typical BBQ quality and great flavor, and smokiness. The pulled pork could have been another scoop, but I understand it's portioned to most likely standards per order. Also, it needed to be a bit more wet and not dry. So this was our FOURTH attempt to try this place. It's literally a few miles from my house. On all 4 attempts were failures due to them having been out of something or other. Last night they were out of 2 of the 4 meats I tried to order. I'm sure they were out of sides, and/or cornbread, because that's typical, however with them being out of half of the mains we wanted, there was no need to go on. Told them to cancel my order and refund my money (online ordered ahead), NOPE no one there could do that. Person on the phone said only the manager could, but that she would have him do it that evening and call me. Guess what? No call. 3 strikes you're out. Looking at how they've fallen from the biggest BBQ chain in America to 2nd to last.....it's easy to see why. Oh, also their last 2 health inspections out here on Yelp. Latest was 1 critical, and 2 non critical violations. Interestingly enough, the 2 non critical violations were the exact same violations from the year PRIOR. If you do t care about your own franchise's success, don't expect the public too either. read more

The food was delicious. The service was exceptional and the server was so friendly. She lets us taste a few items on the menu when we showed interest in them. You can't beat the prices for this awesome BBQ!!! So delicious. I already know what I'm getting when I go back. I won a gift certificate to this restaurant. We drove all the way from Somerset to the Manchester Township location. It was worth the hour and fifteen minutes drive. The walls are decorated with fun BBQ facts and tidbits. Check it out! The biggest shame with this place is that when they get your order right, the food is so good. Unfortunately, they never get the order right. I have been ordering since they opened and it used to be good all around. But the last few months I can't seem to get what I order. Even when I go there to pick it up, it's wrong. Always pretty delicious and I always get texts with a deal . My go to is the brisket sandwich or pork deal with two sides . They have a great selection of side dishes and the drinks are huge. Everything is usually delicious here, although the ice cream machine has been broken, I normally take out so it doesn't really matter that much because it's still a great place for delicious barbecue . We were so excited when Dickey's moved in to have BBQ out here. We went in opening day and there were long lines and things were hectic. We chalked it up to being new. The food was eh at best. We went back a few months later to see if it got better. Service was a little better but the food was still eh. Today we went back after them being open 11 months. This picture is a three meat meal for $20.50. I know this is a franchise but this is not $20 worth of food. I so wanted this to be better and be worth the money. The three "nuggets" are the boneless wings, there are two small pieces of fry brisket and the equivalent of ~1/4 of a link of sausage. Other small BBQ places offer a lot more on a plate for this price. Again, I know it's a franchise and the family can't control prices but we won't be going back read more

The key hanging by the front door in the customer area is probably not the key to the restaurant. I was told, "It might be." I'm going to assume they aren't that naïve. Anyway... There was no original sauce in the customer area. There were no ice cream cones for the free ice cream. The plastic utensils in the holders were dirty. The lil yellow cups at the counter were dusty. The table was dirty. The two older women couldn't figure out how to keep orders straight. They couldn't find food that was just made and openly bickered with each other and the other staff as if there wasn't a restaurant of customers in front of them. They got a lady's order wrong twice after she waited for 20 minutes for an order she placed online. The BBQ beans were a step below an elementary school lunch plate. No flavor and watery. They were an awful color like cloudy water. The mac and cheese must have come from a bag. No flavor. Mushy macaroni. The biscuit had a very undercooked, mushy texture and some kind of sticky stuff on top. I didn't eat it. The ribs had a decent flavor but were a bit over cooked and not very large. I'd like to say this was a new business just trying to figure out how to do things quickly or something. The faded card on the good luck plant at the front counter tells me it's been around for quite a few weeks, if not months, now. I counted about 6-7 people working and we were the second table sitting in the restaurant. I'm not sure what the back of the restaurant operation is like but I couldn't get past the fact that some of the older guys seemed to just be wandering around while tables were dirty, condiments went low, and the serving line seemed to be in total chaos. I'd say I won't be back, but honestly, I don't expect the restaurant to be around long enough for me to return at some point. If this is a chain, they need some serious corporate counseling. Fan freakin tasting!!! Is there 6 stars??? Not only is the Brisket as lean as u get but I can't say enough about THE PEOPLE AND SERVICE!!!! My 82 year old grumpy mother was gob smacked by the people and how nice they were inside this place,.. The only drawback... it's a strip mall ..but everything is in a strip mall there!! We went there an hour and a half after they open and they are out of Brisket burnt ends and not enough jalapeño sausage to fill an order. Those are the only 2 things I'll eat there for meat. I really only go for the burnt ends. That's 3 times now we went and walked out due to them not having what we want. How do you not have any within the first 2 hours of opening? I want so bad to like Dickeys. I live close by and eat out a lot and love BBQ. Unfortunately after 6 visits here within a couple months after they opened, I have yet to have a good experience, and thats not counting the two times i walked out because they were out of multiple things i wanted. Food quality is very inconsistent. I love a lot of salt in my food, but this food has been ridiculously salty. Fries are mostly soggy. Portions of everything are small; i have never ate here and felt full, and I have yet to get everything i wanted to order - they are always out of at least one item - chicken not ready yet, or they ran out of tanglers, or the Pork still in the smoker - so i'm usually eating something i don't want. Always something goes wrong. I understood when they first opened that there would be issues, but at several months in on a slow Tuesday they should at least have the meats ready an hour after they open. The people there are super nice so i hate to leave a bad review, but maybe a couple honest reviews will help get the place operating properly. read more

Love this place. for franchise BBQ it's really very good. service is fabulous. The green beans are just like my mother's that she used to make when I was a kid. cooked all day and so good with the pork. My wife really enjoys the ribs. I usually always get the triple meat because I can't ever decide which I want. I have really started enjoying their wings as well. read more

I'm giving this place 1 star in hopes they can take this criticism and turn things around to thrive.. I want to see them succeed but my food was absolutely terrible. My brisket was so well done it looked like leather. The mac & cheese was beyond not edible. Lifeless and tasteless. The one star was the jalapeño kielbasa now that was fantastic. My creamed spinach was tasteless as well and only taste was like it was microwaved. I am so happy that once again, although I read yelp reviews, I still want to have my own experiences. Dickey's review in Whiting, NJ have gotten some brutal reviews, but if you read the history and their many locations, you will come to find out that they know barbecue. If you have the pleasure of walking into their restaurant their walls tell the whole story from their simple rub and their love of family and proud of how it all began. I ordered their brisket sandwich with cheese and with a platter order you get two sides, I chose the Potatoe salad and mac and cheese and added 1/2 dozen of ribs. Talk about the most delicious ribs and the slight glaze of sweetness was amazing. Their original bbq sauce was tangy and slightly hot. Perfect for my liking. The brisket and sides were amazing. Dickey's in Whiting--I am so sorry for the negative welcome you have received. But your staff and manager were great and your hard work should not be overlooked. This is our 2nd order from this new restaurant. I do admit our 2nd experience was slightly better than our 1st so my 2 Star rating is a combined 1 Star & 3 Star. Still not great. I placed both orders online and has some difficulty with each one. The staff and owner were not the least bit interested in my online issues. There was hardly a facial expression from the owner. Pay and get out is exactly how I felt. I will also say that each order was well over $100. The food is outstanding albeit a bit pricey for Styrofoam. There was no pending orders or customers in front of us and everyone seemed confused and frazzled. We were asked three times to repeat our order. Ordered a 2 meat platter, Brisket and Pulled Pork. Pulled Pork portion was a little more than an ice cream scoop. Good but not great, on the fatty side. Brisket was three 3 inch slices, a little dry. Was never offered or asked if I wanted any sauce on the meats. Sides, creamed spinach and jalapeño beans were not bad. Also ordered two Cueban sandwiches. Not bad but smaller then expected. A little dry, Needed more mustard/sauce and the bread was never toasted as stated on the menu. Also stated on the receipt we were to have received free bbq chips and corn chips. Neither were offered. Ordered online and when I arrived at the restaurant, the order was still in the computer and not even started. They had to take a picture of the computer with their phone to get the order. Long story short, order was incomplete when I got home. Called and was a big ordeal getting what I ordered even though I paid. Food: very bland with no flavor , thrown together, and Luke warm at best. Portions are very small as well. This is not my first rodeo with them.
