Wow! We happened on this place when we took the dogs to a nearby vet. Am I glad we did! We just stopped in to eat at the deli. The sandwiches were terrific! LOADS of meat. My husband opted for the tri tip and I got the turkey/bacon/ranch. Both were great. It probably goes without saying that the meat great.....but the bread was great, too! My husband chose the German potato salad as a side. They warmed it for him & he swears it tastes just like his grandma used to make! This place rocks! My little burger joint had its slicer go down and with a few days to get it fixed, I had asked the crew at Dickman's to slice my cheese for my burgers. They helped me out, sliced 3 blocks of cheese and kept me in business on a busy Saturday! Customer service is top notch as I watched the employees buzz around and satisfy all of their needs. I had a co-worker introduce me to the Uglies several years ago and I have been a regular customer to Dickman's ever since. The Ugly Steaks are great and if you combine them with some of their ready to bake twice baked potatoes you will have yourself an easy and delicious grill feast. Be warned! I bought the a couple of ugly steaks ...... $ 14.29 for 2 ...... rather spendy. They are funky but cook up and are easy to eat. Cut very easily. I do think they are better than one solid chunk of meat. The Staff is wonderful. Super friendly and super fun. This is a meat market meets Huge deli. Some very different food choices. Ugly steaks are best steaks. I am tempted to drive 100 miles from Phoenix to Tucson for more ugly steaks!!! Whilst there we had sandwiches, Boars Head, very good. The twiced baked potatoes were good but nothing to write home about. We got regular Wisconsin brats and garlic brats, I preferred the garlic but I'm a garlic fiend. Both had nice crispy casings (we broiled them) and juicy high quality innards. 10/10 will definitely stop by when we are in Tucson! read more

I went to get a roast beef sandwich and it was pretty good. Boxes stacked on top of each other in the retail area and tables and chairs as well looked like they were moving. I grabbed a bottle of Coke and a cup of ice to chill the drink and the person behind the counter charged me $1.50 for the cup of ice and $2.50 for the bottle of Coke. Four bedroom for a Coke was a little much and he said that was company policy. I come to small local restaurants and support them because they don't act like corporate profits first people second. I wanted a roaster chicken for a special family dinner and called Dickman's to ask if they carried roasting chickens. I was told that they did and that they had some available. When I arrived there were only two small fryers weighing about 2 1/2 pounds each in the case. I was first adamantly told that they are roasting chickens. When I stated that a roasting chicken weighs 5 pounds or more I was condescendingly told that that would be a stewing hen, not a roaster. The man did concede that the chickens in the case were fryers "but you can roast them." Small frying chickens are not what I needed and it was too late to find an alternative. The USDA defines a fryer as between 7 and 10 weeks old and weighing between 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 pounds. A roaster chicken is defined by the USDA as an older chicken, about 3 to 5 months old and weighing between 5 and 7 pounds. While Dickman's is too far from my home to shop regularly I have traveled there for holiday standing rib roasts and turkeys. I trusted them to know the difference between a roaster chicken and a fryer. Growing up with Amish grandparents in Pennsylvania, I also know the difference between a stewing hen and a roaster chicken. A stewing hen is a 3 to 4 year old laying hen past her prime. Not having a nice roaster for this dinner is disappointing. The condescension and deliberate mis-information is inexcusable. read more

Don't EVER count on this place when you require service and organization. I placed my order for holiday meat days in advance only to arrive and it is total chaos. They don't seem to have a clue how to manage the busy holiday season. Save yourself a major headache and go to AJ's. I wish I had... my orders were always ready on time. We have been a customer for years for steaks and chicken. I bought hamburgers this weekend and they were amazing. Jalapeno bacon and hickory bacon. They were huge and mixed up just for me. These were a real treat for our celebration bbq. I bought the buns there too and they the perfect size and held up well with the hugw patty. read more

I may not have been here personally but my BF has smoked and grilled meat from Dickman's and I think that okay's me to leave a Yelp review. The first thing I had from this awesome butcher shop was jalapeno/bacon burger patties. Wow were these patties delicious straight off the grill. We paired the burgers with a twice baked potato from the deli which made for an even better meal. Secondly, my BF smoked some flat beef ribs that were not only ginormous but absolutely amazing after being smoked just right. They were juicy, perfectly marbled fat, omg. This butcher shop/deli probably has some of the best meat in town. My ugly steak was everything everyone else said it was ... juicy, tender, fresh, gorgeous! I'm not much of a carnivore but this steak was amazing. I went there today to support their business and buy food for my family to celebrate the end of this horrible year. Why did I have to be greeted by staff not wearing masks? Why do I have to wonder if what I bought is safe to feed my family? Why do I have to even wonder how long that person was without a mask or if they have COVID? I just want eat steak and to enjoy myself. People who have tried to stay safe from COVID should be considered in your safety practices. This is a real deal butcher indeed. Go there for the meat, for sure. Quality is definitely high and priced right. Some might call it "spendy", but you're paying for good quality and personalized service. Yep. Get the Ugly Steaks. Besides buying those, we also bought T-Bones but the Ugly Steaks were definitely the star. Tender, flavorful and juicy (this is coming from a non-meat loving person). We simply grilled them with a little olive oil spray, soy sauce and some Montreal Seasoning and they were delicious. T-Bones were good too but for the money, might as well go Ugly. The twice baked potatoes are VERY rich. Too rich for us but maybe split one with someone? We also tried the jalapeño bacon and it was pretty tasty. Not too spicy and had a nice jalapeño flavor. Made for a nice variation at breakfast. Others have written about the cleanliness of the place but I really didn't see anything that was problematic (I am a Health Inspector's daughter). There is a "raw meat" scent to the place but it is a butcher shop so... Service was friendly and very helpful. read more

If you're in the mood to BBQ at home, you gotta try Dickmans. This is an actual butcher shop, not like the places that just repackage things that come in bulk. I have yet to try every variety of brats they make, but the ones I had were killer. Even the ahi tuna is fresh and pink. It's not a big secret, but the ugly steaks here are phenomenal. Just a little salt and pepper and toss them on the grill, they come out tender and flavorful every time. Sides here, especially the home made potato salad are fresh and you can tell they were made there. Even the sandwiches have large portions of sliced meat. I usually get something from their farmers box, locally grown corn or tomatoes really complement a meal. And we're talking about large RED tomatoes not the crappy pink ones that grocery stores sell. I was there when they had the Ugly steak sandwich for a daily special and got it with some homemade German potato salad on the side. Wow that meat just melted in my mouth. Great meat case with other exotic meats in the freezer section. Had to get some Wisconsin Brats, a pound of kangaroo, and some boneless duck breast to bring back home to PHX. Even got a T shirt. Next time I'm planning on getting some rabbit. The people working there are really nice and friendly and made several recommendations. This place has an amazing selection of things to buy! The ugly steaks are one of my favorite items to purchase and if they have the bacon bombs I highly suggest not passing them up. Both of their their baked potatoes are good and youu can come here and buy everything you need for a meal, I usually pick up the asparagus. They sell side items in the small front case that are all really good, the jalapeno poppers are my favorite but do sell out so come earlier in the day as they also close early. read more

This is a pretty good Butcher. Lots of selections and willing to do specials orders or cuts. Slight premium on the pricing but in the ballpark on most cuts or sausages. Hot Italian is my favorite. This was my first experience with Dickman's and will not be my last. I picked up 2 racks of baby back ribs and 6 brats for a small BBQ I was having. Very reasonable prices for the high quality meats they were selling. It was definitely worth it to get the meat here rather than somewhere like Safeway. The guy that helped us out was great and willing to answer our questions. The ribs turned out great, fall off the bone great, and the brats were a hit as well. This place has a cute little deli with sides and a decent sandwich collection. They have a pretty decent meat selection with an in depth frozen section. The refrigerated meats are your typical steaks, chicken, ribs, etc., but the frozen section has boar, buffalo, kangaroo, etc. etc. They also have a few small isles of spices, local veggies and cooking items for sale. My only disappointment with this place is that most of the meats are corn fed aside from a few frozen selections. If I'm going to go make a trip to a specialty meat shop I'd prefer grass fed, if not I might as well buy from the grocery store. read more
