I've always had a love/hate relationship with Dicks' sporting goods. Not because they're bad but because they're always so far and the ones that ARE close dont' have what I need. This location is close but doesn't have what I need. That being said, they're still pretty amazing. The staff is super friendly, everything is in order (It better be since it's grand opening) and it follows the same general layout of all other Dick's sporting goods places. Big huge parking lot that has ample parking and next door to a Sprouts Farmer's market so I can go sneak in here with the kiddo while mom goes grocery shopping! Not that I'm ditching her but the kiddo loves to play with things rather than grocery shop. Why not 5 stars? No outdoor section with archery! read more

I've been here a handful of times. There located in what looks like your typical neighborhood shopping complex. Despite the high density of nearby retail establishments, parking has never been a problem. Once inside, they seem to have in stock everything that I'm looking for. The reason they're getting five stars though, is because I can always find an associate to answer a question for me. Besides that, they usually take the time to walk me to the item I'm looking for and also pull the right size for me. I was on a mission to find a Sunday afternoon adventure hat for a hiking trip ! I wanted something that specifically provided the most sun protection since I suffer from eczema and bad hives ! Dick's Sporting Goods saved the day !! This place is fairly new so everything is properly organized and clean. There's plenty of parking and next to Sprouts. Perfect for a one stop shop ! I was able to find an adventure hat here and didn't have to travel too far. They had a few different styles and a variety of colors to choose from. I burn terribly and easily, and my neck usually gets it first. This hat is lightweight, fits nicely without binding, and breathes, which is a big deal for me. I find this works the best for sun protection and it's comfortable. Oh and can I say cute too ? Cost was $40 which was pretty pricey for a hat, but hey I figured I'd utilize this all the time when I go on my outdoor adventures. They also had some good hiking socks for $20 that I purchased. They have a good selection of sporting goods, but I don't think I'd be a regular here due to the steep prices. Although, based on these reviews, it looks like they price match. Ok..I'm no cheapskate, but I'm a bargain shopper. haha Customer service was standard. I did get a couple employees asking me for assistance and the cashier was friendly. I think I just got punked into signing up for their rewards program. The guy literally straight up asked for my info. stating it was just like a Vons card. No biggie. Much better deals online and recently looked for a host of foot and athletic wear which was just not available in-store. Well arranged stock though. And the store still gives the feel of being new. One thing as a manger you should never do is a make a customer feel uncomfortable. The store itself is pretty. Nice selection of apparel and whatever else you're looking for, albeit at ridiculously high prices. But that's not why I'm downgrading to two stars. The problem for me was at checkout when I was bombarded with pitches to sign up for Dick's rewards program. I was asked no fewer than five (5) times about signing up and the cashier just wouldn't let up. It was obnoxious. Every time I turned this person down, they approached it from a different angle. "What's your phone number?" "What?" "Oh, for your Dick's rewards card." "I don't have one." "Oh, let's open one!" "No thanks." "It's easy. Do you live around here? It's-" "No, that's okay." "It's great though. You get points every time you use it!" "No thanks." "Are you sure? It's like a Vons card!" "I don't have a Vons card." "Well, every time you shop here-" "No, that's okay. Thanks." Truly nightmarish month- long saga. Do not order from this company anything you have to get delivered. They have a 3rd party service that you cannot reach most of the time, called AIT. AIT is a sh*t service. I waited over a month for my order. When they happened to text me one month later - because you cannot reach them; you basically have to wait on them to reach you. They gave me a 3 hour window. I was home and waiting, and waiting. Called them and reached someone; she basically hung up on me. Another rep I actually reached somehow; said it would be 2 hours late - so I've been waiting for 5 hours. It is now 2.5 hours later. I may be cancelling this order and getting the same thing for the same price and no headache whatsoever at Johnson fitness in Encinitas. You can go to this store if it's close, to try out the stuff in store, and then just call & order from Johnson. That would have been my ideal path. Don't give this store your money. I called Johnson and they schedule your actual delivery and assembly, though they have a third party do the work. That's SD Fitness, which itself has great reviews. Lesson learned, painfully. Edit: it is 9 PM. He called me finally directly, saying that he is now leaving his last job, should be here in 20 min. We will see whether that actually happens. Came in to buy boxing gloves and they happened to be on sale. When at checkout I saw the price come up to full price not the sale price. When I told the lady at cash register "oh it should be X amount because they are on sale" she says "well there're not" instead of saying oh let's look into it. When I then explained there is a sign up and still continued to act sassy, she made me go back over and check vs having an employee go and check. On my walk back over to check the price I thought to myself, guess who doesn't have shitty customer service, Amazon. So I decided to leave them and happily just purchased them on Amazon for the same sale price. It's bad customer service like this that causes companies to go out of business. I went to Dicks on Carmel mountain and bought a Padres Cap. Got it home and realized it was too big and took it back to exchange it a couple of days later and was humiliated, racial profiled, and accused of stealing. The clerk looked up the receipt, and claimed it wasn't in the the system. I asked to see the manager and when she came instead of taking to me she listened to the clerk defend herself, then turned to me and said "what vis it you expect me to do!" She then said unless you know the exact day and time there's nothing we can do. Of course I knew that information so she went to check the computer in the back. She called down to say no hat was purchased the whole day, and the clerk then said "Maybe you put it in your bag without paying for it." I left went home extremely upset, and my wife and I went back to get the name of the manager to file a complaint with Dicks corporation. The manager saw me and said oh there you are you left before I could tell you I could the receipt under your telephone number, the clerk entered the number wrong. I was livid and said she accused me of stealing the hat, and the manager defended her actions. Corporate didn't even respond to my complaint. Unacceptable. read more

Here's my experience and an email to the district manager Mr. Thrasher I wanted to bring to your attention of an issue I had in one of your stores today in Carmel Mtn Ranch. I came in to look at athletic shoe's. I found a pair of Brook's shoes on display with an assortment of the same style of shoe I was looking at Priced at $89.98. All of the shoe's on display in this style were all priced at $139.99. I took this shoe to one of the associates on duty at approx. 1:05 pm and asked if the Black shoe's in this style were the same price's as the shoe's I was holding. ( See photo attached ) the customer service gentleman stated ( NO it's ONLY that color that I was holding was on sale ) I then asked if he could check to see if they had it in a size 10.5. He then scanned the shoe stating we do have it in stock. He then went to retrieve the shoe. I proceeded to the checkout line. The cashier scanned the shoe and of course it came up the higher price. I explained the situation. She called the manager and he said no, he can't have the shoe at that price, it's a mistake. I asked to speak to him directly, so I could explain what I was TOLD by the employee that helped me. In the meantime I went back to the department and took a photo of what prompted me in the first place. Eric did come to the front in a timely manner. I started to explain, when he stated it was a mistake, (ANYONE can take the clip on signs and move them) I explained that the employee told me that , only that shoe was that price. Again he said that the signs can be move by anyone, he then looked at me saying ( Do YOU understand that ) Again I reiterated what I was told and I said that he doesn't have to be rude. That's when I asked for your contact information. I did ask for your phone number. Eric said, you want to talk to him? I said yes, because this isn't right. Eric said, I can give you his email, so this is why I am contacting you. Here is another concern. If there is an issue with customers moving your clip sale tags. My son needed track spikes and while I can get them online I though I would shop local... big mistake. I call the store and ask if they carry them. Get put on hold for a while and told they are out but that Escondido store has "several". Call Escondido store who says they have only one but will put on hold. Drive up to Escondido and when I get there they remember somebody calling but can't find them. I spend a while looking around the store and finally ask if there is somewhere else they can look. The guy literally turns around opens a cabinet and finds them. So I purchase the spikes and get them home and the package had been previously opened and there are only 9 spikes in it (not the 14 needed for two shoes). I decided maybe I should buy them from Dick's online instead and then notice that the website says my local store, the one I called in the first place, has them in stock and I can order and do curbside pick up. Just in case the system is wrong I drive down to store to return the set of 9 and buy a set of 14. Of course they don't actually have what their online system says and an employee tells me it the inventory has been off on these for a while, but that they looked it up and the Escondido store has lots of them and I can drive up there... facepalm. I have to wait for a while to talk to the store manager who is on the phone taking an order. Eventually the manager asks the employee what we are waiting for and without listening to the issue just waves it off an says "give them a refund" and goes back to their call. Yeah next time I'm just going to buy it on Amazon in the first place. read more

It feels like it's been ages since I've stepped into a sporting goods.. Well anyways I came in here intending to buy some running shoes and let me tell you, i was extremely disappointed. They really didn't have any sizes or options in the women's section. The men's section was bigger and had way more selection. Which was super annoying. Aside from the shoes, i was actually surprised at all the workout clothes they had. They had a lot of current styles and brands like adidas, Nike, new balance, etc. So i did end up purchasing some tanks and that's about it. I wouldn't recommend this store if you're looking for shoes, but sporting equipment and some workout clothes, they have plenty of that. Oh and the staff were pleasant, just sucked they had no shoes. read more

Dick's off Carmel Mountain Is TRASH. Went to buy a "one-size" fits all chin strap for my 11 y/o for tackle football. It comes in the packaging where the product is plastic and sealed and no way to open it other than cutting. I open it and fit it on to my son with his helmet on and it is loose, which results an UNSAFE helmet. The next day, I try and exchange it for a chin sleeve and the manager says they cannot return it due to a hygiene issue. The chin strap was never used other than a fitting (not even 1 practice). How do you explain when people try on swimming trunks or bikinis? That lie of hygiene is as good of a lie as Jeffrey Epstein's "suicide." I'm not mad at the staff, rather, the policy from upper management does NOT make sense. How can customers try something for its effectiveness and can't return/exchange it? Since the cease of gun sales Dick's has lost their relevance. Choke on a binary one and try to actually do something useful for the community. read more

Went to the Dick's on W. VISTA WAY today to buy a bike. A very nice young man named Steven assisted me. He was very knowledgeable and eager to answer any and all questions I had regarding the purchase of the most suited bike for my riding needs. I can not tell you enough good things about this wonderful young man. Dick's should look this employee up and enlist him to train the rest of the employees in superb customer service. He was not only very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly, but went over and above and helped me get the bike loaded into my car. Lied about inventory because they had some teenagers reselling some of there products. Had something placed on hold for me and when I got there they told me everything was sold out. A employee told me they had the weights in the back but are not selling at the moments because the teenagers were still walking around the store. That had nothing to do with me. Manager Kathy has some attitude on her. Never coming back to this place. I'd give zero stars if I could. Manager could have just told the teenagers they were not selling to them anymore. But looks like she took her frustration out on me because I got upset I wasn't being sold a set even tho they had inventory in the back. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! I bought a pair of $150 Nike air max in my usual size online. I wore them for one day and got blisters from how tight they were. I went in the NEXT day to exchange them for a bigger size and they Refused because they couldn't "re sell" them. I was on the phone with customer service for an hour for them to come back and tell me the same thing. I worked for Vans for 10 years and we exchanged shoes from MONTHS of wear etc. I do not expect the same from dicks however one day of wear would not kill your sales. Do not shop here!! I went here ready to buy a bike about 2 months ago. But the "bike specialist" came off super rude and didn't feel like working on another bike, since they build all their bikes there. He told me to come back next week. I've already told him I'm not expecting him to build a bike right then and there now. He didn't seem to like his job. Also I Noticed like 12 damaged bikes lined up he still had to "work" on so I decided not to add to his agenda. I just wondered if those bikes were having issues because of low quality from the manufacturer, or because the bike specialist there doesn't really know what he's doing.
