Nice clean place. Atmosphere has a nice above average hometown feel. I have eaten inside a couple of times and the last time I went was online ordering. Customer service has always been friendly and the online order was smooth sailing. Typical cafe type food. I have only had breakfast before but the reviews on food look good. You can buy casseroles to take home and heat up if you want which is a cool concept to me from a hometown cafe like this. Weekends get hella busy with seating inside and outside. I've had the Niner the first time here and I've never had hash browns that tasted this good. They were a perfect combination of crispy and soft textures but the taste itself is what surprised me. Had a slight buttery flavor and it's really something I can't describe, they're just darn goo ok! The gravy and chicken friend chicken however, wooo boy let me tell ya! Three stars for good food. But, poor service. I ordered the waffle combo with sugar free syrup & crispy bacon. Food arrived with regular syrup and soft bacon. The server took the plate with egg & bacon. While I waited, the waffle got cooler because I had no syrup, utensils or napkins. When the plate was returned, the bacon was indeed crispy. But, the eggs were lukewarm. I hear that this kind of disappointing service is rare here. That would be good news. read more

I've been a loyal customer since they opened and have lived in Cedar Hill since 1990. When someone says that they are a place where locals meet the previous owners understood that concept. It felt like a neighborhood gathering place where you were not a visitor but a family member. New ownership makes me feel like I'm going to IHOP... The quality of the food has totally changed. A crêpe is no longer then they actually use pancakes and fold them over and call them crapes. I order a BLT and it's so dry it feels like it's going to cause a forest fire in my mouth. It just doesn't feel hometown. This place used to be the gathering Place in the morning and now it feels very unappealing we won't be coming back. read more

I've dined here twice and each experience has been positive. The place stays busy so there can be a bit of wait. Everyone lines up and orders, and takes their number after they've ordered & chooses their own table. Free refills on coffee. I've ordered the number 1 (I believe). It comes w/ 2 eggs (style up to you, I chose scrambled), 2 pieces of meat (turkey sausage links for me), 2 pieces of bread( toast-white, whole wheat, cinnamon raisin....english muffin....or bisquits)......I chose toast.......also comes w/ your choice of grits, oatmeal, or hashbrowns. Let me tell you that oatmeal is yummy. It comes w/ raisins and brown sugar on the side. You don't have a designated server, but everyone here helps out bringing the food and getting you something if you need it. We will continue to frequent this place for breakfast and brunch. read more

This place was a cool little spot. It gave me the feel of a diner--minus the booths and bar seating. I think it would be better for smaller parties but I will say they have long tables for bigger groups. You wait in line to order at the front and then choose a table to sit at & get utensils while you wait for them to bring your food. Dick's Uptown Cafe has been a favorite of mine for years for breakfast and I've loved it. Recently looked at their lunch menu and talked to a staff member about it who said the burgers were fantastic. I went for the tuna melt and fries, absolutely great. Best fries ever too, plus sourdough bread! Have gotten that twice now but just saw a pic of their onion rings so next time will go for those! I gave it four stars this time as I'm a lone diner when I go there and enjoy reading the newspaper on my iPad. For some reason, they no longer have free WiFi. I do not abuse my stay, I read as I wait for food and eat, I don't just sit and drink endless coffee to read. Who switches from free WiFi these days? Very inconvenient for me, so I've really cut back on my visits, I used to go very often and now I sure enjoy lunch too. Give us lone diners a break please! Please reconsider this, perhaps someone was abusing it but I hate to see this ruined for us all. I'm a Cedar Hill resident and this ia fave place for me, I hate to see that change! The line to order moved pretty quickly. Was able to find a table and food came quicker than I expected. The food was really good. My kids loved the hot chocolate and French toast. The pancakes were really good and there was something really good about the syrup too. I had the original message and loved it, it's kind of like a scramble. Couldn't finish it, had to get a to go box. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast but probably not for a party with more than 4 people because seating could be a challenge. read more

Just had the worst breakfast. In the past Dick's had been good, but something has changed. I ordered two #1s with a side of grits on both. The grits were GRAINY!!! UNCOOKED!!!! I believe they use some kind of instant or quick grits, but still didn't cook them long enough. How do you serve someone that with a straight face. They had to know they were not cooked. Being from the south, I was raised on grits and know how they should be when cooked correctly. I also mix my scrambled eggs in my grits. First timer...very impressed! Every breakfast joint in North Texas has its own version of the "hash-brown-based-kitchen-sink-throw-together"...I've had all of them. The Whole Mess is the absolute best I've ever had! I ordered the sautéed mushrooms and spinach version...6 minutes later it was delivered to my table. Eggs were perfectly cooked over- medium. Just the right mix of onions, cheese, fresh mushrooms and spinach. My only complaint (and its very minor, and partly my fault) is that the hash browns were not actually "brown"...more like hash whites. Next time I'll ask them to cook the hash browns "extra crisp" or "well-done" or whatever the correct terminology is for the doneness of shredded potatoes. Why is it so difficult to get these things done? It's not just this place...it's everyplace in the known universe...but I have learned that all you've gotta do is ask AND be willing to wait a few extra minutes. Sorry for the hash brown doneness rant. I'll continue: I really love this place. The portion size was very generous. Ate breakfast a little after 10AM and this will serve as lunch for me today, as well. Clean, comfortable atmosphere. Typical diner "feel". Good service. Friendly and very helpful staff. Restroom was spotless. (I always remove at least one star for a dirty restroom.) While in town visiting a friend in Midlo, we decided to get up and have breakfast and really didn't want IHOP. I looked on my Yelp app and found Dick's. The place was pretty crowded and Dick's was surprisingly good. We got there around 11 a.m. on a Saturday and I seriously think we were the only people eating breakfast. I ordered the Denver omelet with egg whites and fruit cup as a substitution for the carbs that came with it (I had to drive back to Houston, so I was not interested in being in a carb coma while on the road). It was pretty tasty! While I can't say that it was better than what I can make at home, I will say that it is better than ISLOP (a.k.a. IHOP) and when in the area again, I'll stop in and eat there again. read more

I come here all the time for the spinach omelet. It is one of the best around because they add cream cheese and season the grilled veggies well. The people are nice and the prices are right. If they had mimosas I would stop doing brunch elsewhere as much. read more
