So in Texas you eat BBQ, after 4 days it's time to clean out the insides. On day 5 I opted for a veggie plate with coffee at Kim & Jenny's. First dish was the salad, just enough with tomatoes and lettuce plus a side of Italian. For my main course I chose a soft muffin, green beans, carrots and mandarin oranges. The veggies were delicious and even the bread was really good, soft, airy and buttery. Who knew veggies could be so good! My server kept my coffee filled without my even asking, that's always a good sign. The restaurant was quiet and has a friendly air about it. I liked the feel of it. The charbroiled chicken, southern fried chicken, cod, salad w/ranch and the veggie plates are some of our favorites... but the chicken quesadillas on Wed are the best if you like that homemade quality. I love supporting our local restaurants, however its been years since I gave this place another try. I ordered the stuffed tomato with chicken salad and a side salad with ranch. Then for 3.50 more I got a side of carrots. Well the salad came out and it was drenched in ranch. Then the stuffed tomato came out and the tomato wasn't ripe and hard as a rock I couldn't cut into it with my butter knife or fork. The scoop of chicken salad on top had zero flavor and the carrots where canned carrots. I had coffee with my lunch but I finished it before the food came out. Never saw a waitress again after we ordered so I had no drink and no way to ask for a ripe tomato so I paid $18 for inedible food. Needless to say I will stick to some of the other local joints. Of course they don't service you because they properly know their food sucks and they don't want to hear it. read more

Great coffee!!! I drink my coffee black so it's really important that it actually taste good and their coffee hit the spot! Some food was bland but some was just perfect. I felt like the gravy was a miss with no flavor but the biscuits they go on are amazing. Not dry at all and they have a soft middle, I've never had biscuits from a restaurant that were so good. My son had a waffle and they are the thin Waffle House kind that he likes. He was very pleased with his meal. Husband had the Denver omelet with hash brown- the hash browns don't come with the omelet, you have to order those separately. He thought the omelette was a little on the bland side but the hash browns were to his liking. I saved my biscuits and gravy for last because I love that part the best. To say I was underwhelmed is putting it mildly. The biscuits were very dense ant only flavor was the pepper. I kept tasting it hoping I could figure it out. I am not positive, but I think it was made with cornstarch. Absolutely flavorless. I was certainly hoping for better. Kim and Jenny are sisters. It's a seat yourself kinda place. Anytime my kid has no school we go here for brunch. Everything is simple which I like and the coffee is good. My daughter asked for chocolate chips in her pancakes and she was like we don't do that her. I think a more Sweeter approach would be sorry sweetie we only have yummy homemade pancakes. Food is always yummy and their biscuits OMG are they a must!!! It would be nice if coffee was refilled a bit faster. KIM is usually at the restaurant checking you out and she is such a doll. If you need a quick hot and pretty solid breakfast for a reasonable price, this is the place in Midlothian to go. The wait staff all smiles and they do it all and work hard. The restaurant itself is so noticeably clean. Zero dust anywhere you can tell someone cleans the high corners regularly as there are no lurking cobwebs. I feel I'm going to put a bit of an interior design hat on right now. The color is too dreary for how bright the staff is. The overall experience woild be punched up if there wasn't such an ocean of gray all around you. That's just something I definitely noticed because I believe all 5 senses lend to the enjoyment of a meal. Back to food. Their food is consistent, it comes out fast it tastes pretty good even though you can tell at least some portion of it is pre-made. I feel they would do themselves a great service if they maybe prepared their own sausage instead of the normal hockey puck perfect oval, though the ones they use, to be fair, are the better variety of said such sausage. Decent thickness and cooked well. I'm a fan of their pancake stacks. Solid portion and a nice classic buttermilk taste. I'm certain it's a bought mix but again well executed and consistent. To close, there could be touches of improvement to really get this place to another level but the down home feel, the excellent kitchen consistency (which is much harder to achieve than people realize), and the good taste for a good price, this is easily the best spot in town for a quick stop in breakfast or lunch during the work week. You can easily get in and out on a standard 1 hour lunch break or also before work depending what time you have to be in. LOVED the pancakes (I detected a hint of vanilla and maybe lemon) and the biscuits are bar-none, the BEST I have had. The eggs are fresh and local, the bacon crispy. Good home cooking type cafe. Great pies and desserts! Service is adequate and food is what you used to eat at home, when somebody would use stoves and ovens and other kitchen appliances. I have tried this place recently as a change of pace from my usual weekend breakfast stop, and have been favorably impressed. So far, all of the food, with the exception of one item has been top notch. Fresh eggs, well prepared hash browns, very good pancakes. Bacon has been nice and crispy without being burnt. The only think I have had there that wasn't up to the standards of everything else was the ham, which was only average. A word about the biscuits: they are home made and many will find them high quality. They are definitely good, but they are made differently from the way I like home made biscuits. I just like them a little "crumblier" than they are prepared here. I would still rate the biscuits and gravy here well above average. You should try them for sure, most of you will like them. Service is very quick and has always been friendly. The people working here are very nice. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality. read more

I visit nearby Waxahachie from time to time and found the chain restaurants to be packed with people and low on substance. I gave this place a shot and it was worth the drive! The staff is super friendly and give off the small town family feel to all their patrons. The place was busy but had no wait time on a Saturday morning which is rare. I am a regular at this place and would never think of giving them a bad review until today. I went with my two children and unfortunately the wait to get my food was very long. My one year old started to cry and whine after waiting for what seemed like 15 minutes. I did everything i could to calm him while watching my daughter. Tried playing with him, tickling him, gave him some toys, some water etc but nothing worked. Just as I was about to try to distract him by showing him pictures on my phone I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was someone that either owns the restaurant or is related to the people that own it. This older woman asked me to carry my child or do something to keep him quiet because he was being too loud and he was going to disturb the other customers. Asked me to please do something pretty quickly. I told her he was hungry and asked for crackers to help. I should've mentioned the long wait but was completely caught off guard by the way I was treated. She did bring me some crackers but after this negative experience I can't say that I recommend them anymore. Their food is great and their employees are nice. But rather than being approached and told to calm my child, they should've come over and offered to help by bringing crackers. I've been a regular customer for years and I am sad that I was treated this way. I don't deny my child was loud but the entire place was loud because it was busy. Normally I or my husband would've taken him out of the restaurant but I couldn't because i was by myself. I was basically stuck. I've always recommended this place to everyone with kids but after this morning I do not. Even one of their employees told me they couldn't believe they told me to keep him quiet. If you are looking for a typical small town, American cuisine, breakfast and lunch spot, this is it. Kim and Jenny's serves a good breakfast and has different lunch specials everyday, like pot roast, chicken fried steak, etc. The breakfast overall is definitely above average. The pancakes are large and fluffy, the eggs are fresh and cooked well, the biscuits are made from scratch and the gravy is to die for. I'm honestly a big fan of the breakfast burrito (sausage, eggs, cheese, hash brown). My wife and I order these to go on a pretty consistent basis. The wait staff is very friendly. I enjoy going to a restaurant and seeing the same people every Saturday morning. You can tell they enjoy working there because it shows in how friendly they are to the patrons. The owner is always there and rings you up at the front before you leave. It definitely reminds me of the restaurants I used to go to when I was a kid in small town West, Texas. One drawback can be the parking situation on Saturday morning, especially if there is a Farmer's Market or other festival going on. But its usually not too bad. read more
