Highly recommended! Great food at a decent price. I had the "Eggs Benedict" which I have had at fancy restaurants before and theirs was even better. My husband had the "Chicken and Waffles" which was equally yummy. This place was a great find!!! The only reason I gave them 4 and not 5 stars is because it was really crowded and the tables are real close together. When we left the line was out the door. I recommend looking up the menu before going because you order at the counter and you need to have an idea what you want. There isn't really a place to look at it when you walk in and you hold the line up if you do. I took one to my table to look at it so next time I'll know what they have. We wanted to eat at a different place other than the usual IHOP. We've lived in Cedar Hill for years and have never eaten here. After reading reviews we decided, why not. We get there and it's packed, so that's when we figured heck it must be good! The employees are sweet and the atmosphere feels like home. Doesn't feel like your eating amongst strangers. I had the spinach and mushroom mess, delicious. My hubby had their spinach omelette with grits and a waffle on the side. He was happy and full. Finally! My 3 year old ate her meal without me having to make her. I should probably take cooking lessons from this place. This place is always full but customer service is so sweet! You feel comfortable here, and other customers are so friendly while here. So far I'm loving the "mess" breakfast plates, my husband has tried the chicken n waffles, and my toddler finished her mini breakfast plate. The line was constantly filling the place, but moving. I have been eating here with family since over 3 years and for the first time yesterday I had a very disappointing experience. Yesterday morning (9/16/2017) I was there for breakfast with wife and dog My chicken fried steak was the size of a breakfast sausage patty dripping in oil, looked like it was flung out of the freezer and fried in a hurry. There was fungus on the fruits in my fruit cup - I only requested the server lady to inform the kitchen about the fungus, did not ask for a refund or replacement, just ate what I could eat without throwing up and left. I am wondering if this was done deliberately because we'd been waiting about 40 minutes for our food (usually only takes 5-10 minutes even on the busiest of days) and I went inside to politely check on my ticket and make sure they didn't miss us because we were sitting outside.... maybe the someone felt I was rushing them Anyways I am writing this review with a very heavy heart because I love coming here every weekend and whenever I get a chance, have always loved the food and service and would hate to have to drive even farther out for breakfast/brunch read more

Ok so masks are REQUIRED. I get it, but when you have a reatauraunt FULL of people eating and talking NOT wearing them but you are told that you HAVE to wear a mask in line to pick up your food... that's common sense, right? We stopped coming here for a while because the food had gotten bad. (Black hash browns, and burritos missing things) we tried them again and nothing has changed. And don't get me started on the price gouging for THEIR face masks. Give me a break. And don't try to place a phone order on the weekend with the website unless you want to be forced to enter a tip amount. When we moved to Cedar Hill 2 years ago, our tradition is to out for breakfast after church on Sunday. We searched Yelp and found Dick's Uptown Cafe. When we arrived about 10am, the line was out the door. Definitely a good sign. As we stood on line, we noticed you ordered at the counter and grabbed a table after you order. Wasn't sure how this was going work given how packed the dining area was and the number of people in line. We found a table after ordering and retrieved our utensils, cups of water and coffee. I ordered the Whole Mess and my wife got the Healthier Mess. My son got the kids breakfast. I've had a variation of Dick's Whole Mess in other breakfast places yet this can stand alone as an incredible indulgence of flavor and foods. My wife's Healthier Mess was pretty tasty even though it was healthier. My son's breakfast was pretty standard and he loved it. We were thankful to find a new "go-to" spot for Sunday breakfast. There's always a line yet it moves quickly. I especially appreciate being given a veteran discount when I remember to ask for it. Dick's Uptown Cafe is just another reason why I love living in Cedar Hill. It's an experience for anyone who loves great food with a family hometown atmosphere. read more

Literally the best brunch place in all of Cedar Hill. This place is always busy but they turn tables quick enough that you can find a seat by the time you place your order. The people here are super friendly and serve quickly. Food is well prepared. Omelets are worth a return in itself but they offer many other items. The fruit was lazily sliced and placed into a bowl, while the Benedict was flavorful but not nearly the best I've had. The interior is cramped and stuffy. I ate here this morning with my daughter. I was surprised to see so many patrons on a Thursday morning. The restaurant has a real 'local diner' type feel. You can tell that some of the customers are regulars. I like this feel and makes me remember the small town part of Cedar Hill. It took us a while to figure out what we wanted since it was our first time. They have menus that you look at and order from while at the register. In not a huge fan of this style but it's not a big deal. We decided on something simple. My daughter got bacon, scrambled eggs and toast off the kids meal. I had bacon, scrambled eggs w/ cheese and pancakes. Once you order, you help yourself to silverware, condiments, and the drinks you ordered and pick your own seat. As soon as we got situated the food was delivered to our table. Very speedy! The food was good too! You just have to get up and get your own syrup, lol. Now the food was good and I will probably visit again but the prices aren't great. For the $17 plus that I spent we could have had a sit down meal where you get fully served. read more

So first visit, we got there a little after 11A. The place was crowded but fully functioning. My husband ordered a number two which was two eggs, 3 slices of bacon, and hash browns he added an extra pancake. He said for him the food was average he may would have cooked the hash browns a little longer. My son had eggs, two slices of bacon, and 2 pancakes. He liked his food. We got a little bit of a surprise while both where ordered as regular pancakes: a blueberry pancake was put on the bottom. Our host was quick to take it away and replace the entire meal with no regards to what my son had already ate. I ate a mini meal which was 1 egg, 2 pieces of bacon, and a slice of French toast. I enjoyed my meal and would go back for a second visit. Especially now since I know how they operate and what is expected of me when I go in. We spent like $27 for the three of us, so not too terribly pricey. You go in and while you're in line you look at a menu when you get to the register: you place your order and leave your name then find a seat (basically an empty table) all the drinks are included: they have fresh coffee, tea, soda. While you're getting your silverware and drink a host will come to the end of the counter and call your name for you too wave them down and let me know where you're sitting and they will bring all your food. The food is freshly cooked when you order it and the wait time is not too terribly long. I think next time I'll come back for lunch and do a lunch review. By then several people had ordered in front of us You do not get up and get your food it is served to you by a waitress. Your drink you get yourself I guess this system works for most people that go there , we prefer to take a seat and have someone come take our order and bring it out . I do not care to stand in a line to get breakfast The meal was ok We ordered eggs with sausage and bacon and biscuit and then one side order of gravy. The gravy was 59 cents which is well within reason but it tasted like it had been made with chicken broth, it was not hot heat wise and in seconds had started to harden on top It did not come with a biscuit that is another order and that is a 1.19 each I think that is way overpriced and did not get one I can't say that we won't eat here again just say not likely to read more

Omg I'm officially addicted to this place. 4 straight weekend in a row I've brought my family and 4 times they got it right. Even though the lines have been out the door, we were always able to get a table and the food has been more than perfect. You would think with such a big crowd that the food might be subpar, but not here. I've tried different items on each occasion and each time I was not disappointed. The food was so good and the portions were big, even though I was stuffed I had to finish because I knew I would regret leaving anything on my plate. The verdict is in.... It was OK.... The pancakes were thick and fluffy and very good. My eggs, sausage and bacon and hash browns were not hot. I sent them back to be heated up! The hash browns were dry. Everything else taste ok. Good Day Cafe in Grand Prairie is better! I don't think they offered alot of choices. I do want to try the lunch! I expected the place to be crowded, it being a Saturday morning and all and I was not disappointed. Although the seating area is a bit tight, it managed to work with the ladies busily bussing tables and assisting customers. I have been to Dick's on several occasions! I have had, breakfast, lunch and dinner there. Every time the food was great and the atmosphere is so cozy...it's like everyone knows each other in there. Great place for family and kids. For breakfast, they now have several varieties of the 'Whole Mess' which is one of my personal favorites..all of them! And, they serve breakfast all day long if you want it. For dinner I love either the Salmon Ceasar Salad or the grilled Talapia. This place definitely hit the spot after a nice morning hike. I came in hungry and came out satisfied. With so many delicious options, I didn't know what to eat, but right when I got to the counter to order, I saw a sign with new additions to their menu. The eggs Benedict caught my eye as it always does, but as I continued reading the sign I saw another derivative of "The whole mess" but it was healthified! If I'm not mistaken, it's called Betsy's Mess, and it had spinach, mushrooms, cheese, tomatoes, onions, avocado, chicken, and a side of salsa instead! It also comes with jalapenos, but I asked them to leave it out. This one doesn't come with hash browns, but it does come with a nice, big, delicious blueberry pancake. Now, I eat pancakes, but I'm not a huge fan. I haven't really found a super delicious, I-have-to-have-another pancake anywhere, and maybe that's why I'm not a huge fan. I do have to point out that I worked up quite an appetite, but MAN! I could go for another one of those pancakes right now! It was different. I think it was made with oats instead of flower, which some people might not like, but it went so well with the hot syrup. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Maybe I caught them on a good day. I'm not sure, but I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in the area. I ordered the black bean burger for the second time in 2 months. The order was taken and was ready on time after the English girl got on the phone and took the order. The price is slightly over the fast food but this is a mom and pop fresh made burger. I got wheat bread and the trim as I requested but to me the black bean was all in pieces again and was rather small for the price. This use to be the best breakfast in town but I think they have changed employees recently. The last two times we have ordered here the quality of the server and food was awful. Ordered there #1 breakfast eggs over easy with bacon, hash browns and English muffin and received eggs burnt(over hard) sausage uncooked (no bacon as ordered) and hash browns burnt as well. English muffin so burnt it was uneatable. Buyer beware I would recommend you go to Kim and Jenny's on Wheatland the service and food is quite superior and the price is much more competitive.
