    Cheese Bricks

Found Digby's while visiting Lafayett. Great atmosphere and great patio. Since it was our first time there I asked the waitress what she recommended; and we chose the Cheese Bricks for Appetizer, garlic butter burger and the PB & J burger. I have to say she was spot on! The food was amazing, we also meet the owner and he was super friendly, answered all our question. I Will definitely be back to enjoy the food.

Tenderloin, the size of a child...almost

Came in Friday evening about six, and between indoor and outdoor seating, was about half full. Pros - Portion- got the tenderloin and as you can see from the picture, it was about the size of a small child (kidding...kind of...) - Options- While the menu is not large, there is something for everyone Cons - Prices- Some things are very reasonably priced, some not so much. - Service- the service is terrible! VERY unfriendly and every time they interact, act like they are at the dentist. They seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves (bartenders and waitresses) than helping customers...but what do I know. Overall, it could have been worse, but if wait staff were just a tad more friendly, it would greatly increase most customer satisfaction. For my meal, tenderloin with their housemade chips, and water, it was $15 and change.

Cheese bricks! I'm a sucker for some fried cheese and these were great. Each "brick" is a 1/4 lb some bring some help or you may go into a cheese comma. I also tried the fried pork loin sandwich and it was excellent. Lots of crispy pork. They had some great food and drink specials the night I went. Our group sat on the patio. It had excellent views of the old courthouse across the street. Lastly our service was fantastic. We had a decent sized group and everything came out in a timely manner. Drinks were refilled regularly. And most importantly the server was friendly.

A cute pub and friendly staff. We made reservations, but didn't really need to, we learned. We started with the cheese bricks and deep fried pickles. Both came out piping hot with great dipping sauce. I loved the berry sauce with the cheese sticks. They were HUGE. Three of us couldn't eat them all. I had the lamb sliders and they were so good! Loved the lamb option and the freshness of the tzatziki, feta, and onion on them. I had a side of the fries with the cheese and buffalo style sauce. SO GOOD! My husband had the pulled pork and my daughter the Caesar salad. Everything was great! I also had the mojito and it was refreshing and delicious!

I've been to Digby's a few times since my last review, most recently this past weekend with a friend. We split an order of cheese bricks (which I highly recommend for any cheese fan -- the rum raspberry sauce really takes it over the top!). Their salads are also available as wraps, and I got the chicken bacon ranch wrap (delicious). We sat on the patio (my first time), and it was so relaxing! Try to make a reservation if you want to guarantee a patio table on a weekend. We lucked out! Service was a little slower than on previous trips, but it was a very busy evening.

I've been here a few times and I can say this a reliable spot. The food is pretty good for a bar and the service is good. The waitresses are always nice and help with the menu. The food does take a little while to come out but if you're going for the vibes the time will just pass. The outdoor patio is the highlight of the place and I usually sit out there whenever I go. Not a lot of Sun and cool enough with the plants around. You can also control the music with the juke box inside. I also like that they have games you can play with friends. All in all, pretty good food, good prices (and deals through the week), and great service

As a wee child and teenager, it was the location of choice to celebrate birthdays and holidays. As a college-aged adult in training, it was the place to meet up with friends, share some drinks, and watch Jerry dance on top of the bar. Even now, as a married man in his thirties, living a ten-hour drive away, I make it a goal to enjoy Nine Irish Brothers once per year at the very least. When my childhood best friend of eighteen straight years passed away, this location marked the final stop in the bar crawl that was held in his honor. When another friend had bravely "come out" only to be to rejected by some of his religious friends, Nine Irish was the place where my wife and I were able to sit down with him over some Guinness and goat cheese fritters and show him how much we love him. The food and drinks are fantastic, and the memories are forever. Whether you've lived in Lafayette/West Lafayette all your life, you're new to the area, or you're just passing through, I cannot recommend this pub enough--no matter your age. Sadly the…read moremenu has wildly bloated numbers double what many similar restaurants offer, Town and Gown, Bistro 501, RedSeven deliver and reach above expectations unlike the dull expensive dry roast recently eaten this past week. I cannot comprehend this place, after four visits with friends, unable to recommend any dish or drink as a standout win up against the cost. Let me nail down each dish we had this past Wednesday, the grilled bacon was entirely fine, quite tough but nice fatty flavors, I like Teay's River candied bacon app better. Oyster was good, east coast briny does me right. Our Old Fashioneds were insanely expensive without offering any memorable flavors, balance seemed restrained neither giving a forward bite or a smooth sweetness. Strawberry Lemon sprits was similar, an overpriced kid's slushy. Asparagus was fine. Potato sides surprisingly flavorless, we all couldn't believe how dull the potatoes were. My sister's salmon looked half the size of Town and Gown's while costing fifty percent more and offering half the food. She did finish the ocean protein but left most of the rice. Thankfully the desserts were better, bread pudding somewhat dry and needing a sparkle of that smooth actual pudding but the winner was definitely the key lime. Rich and dense, dreamy and tangy, I got happy! Sure the atmosphere and staff is enjoyable, providing some fresh city vibes compared to the homely and old school Mountain Jacks. However Jacks and Mcgraws Steakhouse both do far better as culinary is concerned. Would be exciting to see this place fix up their inconsistency, out of touch pricing, or they'll be the next to go the way of Bowen Bistro during the next economic crash.

It was a great place to have a nice solo steak dinner in West Lafayette. I don't eat steak often, but when I do, I want it to be amazing. And my steak was amazing! I got the 8-ounce Linz Heritage filet, Sam Allen style, which meant that it also came with grilled shrimp and a chimichurri. Yum yum yum to all three things. I usually order my steak medium-well, but the server suggested medium, so I went with it. Good choice! My server was very wise, even though he looked like he was still in college. Along with the steak, I got a side of grilled mushrooms, which came in a brown sauce with chives sprinkled on top. But first: I started with an heirloom tomato salad, which was served with stracciatella cheese, basil and these cool balls that looked like roe, but were actually balls of balsamic vinegar. Fancy! It was fresh and light, and the perfect appetizer to get during a summer in Indiana, when them tomatoes be poppin'. I don't know why I'm reviewing my meal backward, but just go with me, people. Before everything, you get complimentary rolls and butter. Oh man! I could have made a meal just from the bread and butter, both of which were tender and soft, and so salty and flavorful. At the very beginning of my meal, I started with an Old Fashioned, because I read that Boilerhouse Prime is known for their Old Fashioneds. This one was well balanced, and came with a nice bourbon cherry. I also got a glass of Malbec along the way with my meal, which went well with my steak. This seems like an adults-only restaurant, but I was sitting close to a big table that had a family with kids, so well-behaved kids are definitely allowed, even though I did not see a kids menu.

Last time I got the lobster bisque and it may have been the best I've ever had. I ordered it again and it was terrible. Just terrible. Tasted kind of bitter and was much too dark for a lobster bisque. The side dishes are enormous and they were all ok. The charred broccoli is an entire stalk thrown on a grill. Char on outside, raw on inside. Lovely. My American Wagyu bone-in strip was good, though it tasted no different than prime meat and did cost $95. I would have hoped for better than just 'good'. Family enjoyed most items. I sampled the wedge and really liked that. Probably best part of the meal. Oysters were excellent. Drinks are always good here. They have upgraded their rum list and have some high quality ones now. That's great! Service is always top notch. I will definitely be back for happy hours. The food at this restaurant is good. But when 2 adults and 3 kids drop $800 on a meal, it really ought to be fantastic, not just good.

The fries were excellent: mostly crispy, but every so often a couple of mealy and soft fries were discovered, which was nice. The Caesar salad was good, and it came with whole croutons, which is typical. But really, The Black Sparrow? Your Caesar salad could have been elevated to excellent if the croutons were crushed into bread crumbs! Just saying! The Caesar had a lot of freshly grated parmesan cheese, which was a nice touch. A good Caesar salad needs a lotta parm, in my opinion. I just sat at the bar, so all I know is that rectangular space at the counter. Is there a restaurant beyond the bar at The Black Sparrow?
