So we decided to go to Diggery Inn. They got some great vegetarian options so I was excited. I got the blondie omelette and the bf got the california (w/o spinach). Pictures posted. The food was decent. I prefer a little more seasoning to my home fries, country potatoes, or roasted potatoes - however you call it nowadays. I love my starch and potatoes, but man I wish it had some thyme or rosemary to bring out more flavors. So of course I added a ton of salt and pepper. The omelette itself was huge, barely finished it. They serve a basic breakfast in a nice comfortable open cafe. I had eggs, potatoes and chicken apple sausage with toast. The small Pancakes with bananas were perfect for my child. The restaurant is child friendly. Overall, the breakfast was fine and a good value. The omelet's and scramble also look good too. Cons: Coffee is below average. They have limited toast options ( white, wheat and sourdough) They were out of sourdough when I went. Also, I had to ask for my toast to be more toasted. read more

We have been coming to this place every Sunday for brunch for months. Staff is unbelievably nice and friendly. We are greeted with our favorite drinks, seconds after we crossed the front door... Also, on one occasion one of ladies, spontaneously offered to take care of our daughter while she was throwing a fit. Within seconds little girl was calm and staff were all giggling with her around the bar! Such above and beyond service is not found often.... I made my first visit to San Francisco just over a week ago and stayed just two blocks from the Diggery Inn. I have two questions: 1. Do you have a hard time staying in shape? 2. Do you care? If your answers are anything other than 1. Yes, 2. No OR you will order something other than Meditteranean Omelet with Potatoes, read on. The Diggery is Cheap. Capital C, you read that correctly. $6.95 fills your plate with a goat-cheese-filled omelet and cubed potatoes that look as if they just got back from a vacation to Fiji. The service is attentive and sweet/modest/flirty, depending on which young lady is in. Our breakfast coincided with a shift change/cigarette break/late arrival/hand-washing/imponderable other, so we were treated to All Of The Above. (Note to self: good name for a dish=All Of The Above.) Finally, the Diggery is filling. You should plan on walking around the city for about 4 hours to work this one off. Do you have a 50-lb backpack you can take with? Right. Make it 8 hrs. But I didn't scour the menu too deeply. They may have dishes with fewer calories. The only reasons I don't give the Diggery four stars are 1: the consistency of the potatoes, which felt as if they could have to some benefit spent another 7 minutes in the pan and 2: the Diggery subscribes to an aesthetic that finer restaurants rise above only by way of much elbow grease and touch-up paint. Far be it from me to devalue the work that goes into near perfection. Then again, a man's gotta eat! And for my money, this is a good place to do it. read more

I will not come here again. I went here with my friend last week while I was visiting her in Oakland. The service was awful. We had to wait a long time to get water and coffee refills and there were only a couple of other tables besides us. The grilled chicken salad I ordered was very bland and dull and it didn't even come with bread. I could have made way, way better at home. My friend ordered the omelet, she said it was decent but nothing worth mentioning. They do not except credit/ATM cards which is a huge minus for me as well. An incredible opportunity missed, this perfectly located restaurant in the Glenview district has too many disappointing things on the menu for me to recommend it. I can only think that some of the overly positive ratings must have come many years ago. The service was glacial, the home fries bland and inconsistently cooked, a kids plate of chicken nuggets and french fries would have been better from a Costco samples table, biscuits did not resemble anything that I am familiar with, and somehow they made even a side of bacon taste unappetizing. Great location, generous portions, but I cannot recommend the food--and that is why I go out to restaurants. If I missed a truly stellar menu item, I doubt that I will go back to find out. read more

I love this place. It's a family diner where they quickly learn your name and remember what you like. I'd suggest trying the blueberry pancakes, the Avocosmo, or the Cobb salad. The food is super fresh (great salads and fruit) and you can also order off the menu. Just let Nary know what you want. It's crowded weekend mornings but otherwise very low key and comfortable. I will never come back here again. Here is why.. I kindly ordered the Maly omelette and started eating it and realized that there were egg shells in my food. I asked if I could have another one. I got another one and it was served back watery and not appetizing at all. So i got the bill and was not expecting to pay for my meal due to how bad it tasted and the effort put into making it was horrible. The waitress told me couldn't take it off the bill because she made me another one. Mind you, the new one was even more disgusting than the first. She ended up taking it off the bill and told me these exact words, "I took it off the bill, but i can not serve you anymore. You are not allowed to come into this restaurant anymore because you are going to complain" Yes, she said those exact words. I am banned from coming back to this restaurant because I complained about eating egg shells in my omelet. So to save you any trouble, I suggest you do not waste your time on this restaurant. This is horrible customer service and I have never been treated so poorly as I did when I came here today. I have never been treated like that before. I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a child and It is sad that it has gone so downhill since then. Walked in the door with my toddler and... no acknowledgement, so we picked our own seat. Waitress walked up while I was asking my daughter what she wanted to eat, so I ordered a smoothie and a chorizo quesadilla with the jalapenos on the side, which I assumed she knew we planned to share A. because I only ordered only one entree but planned for us both to eat, and B. ordered it mild. Got my lunch and... That quesadilla was mucho picante, leaving my daughter with only fries to eat. Tried to get a second plate and straw and... no acknowledgement. Got the check, put down my card and... the waitress tells me that they don't take cards. THIS IS A PROBLEM I express my dismay, since there is nothing posted anywhere that states this or I would have gone elsewhere since I didn't have much cash on me. I must have looked panicked because I honestly didn't think I had enough cash to cover the bill, so the waitress... walked away, no "we take checks, or there's an ATM down the block", no advice, no help, no sympathy, no acknowledgement. I spent 5 minutes emptying out my bag, while the almost empty restaurant looked on and finally found just enough money, but still no waitress. Not even to ask me if things were resolved or to see if I wanted to pack my leftovers to go, NOTHING. So we left, but I am deeply upset with the way they handled things and that there is no sign anywhere saying Cash Only, which would have been nice to see, so I knew BEFORE I ordered, and they could use a manners refresher. read more

I take breakfast very seriously. It has always been my favorite meal of the day. (And, say nutritionists, it is the most important!) I usually order both a sweet and savory dish whenever I go out to eat breaky. I've been here several times, trying to find a dish that deserved my love, but everything I've had here is mediocre or super greasy. And it's too bad, because I live nearby. One day I ordered "fresh" OJ and I swear to God it tasted like they mixed pasteurized OJ with Tang. The mocha I ordered wasn't much better--it tasted like coffee mixed with Swiss Miss, spritzed with nonfat whipped cream from a can. The servers are friendly enough and it has a welcoming, warm vibe, especially if you're seated in the sun or near a window. Ventured to Park Ave for brunch and stumbled upon this great diner. Looked small from the outside but the large picture windows and tall ceiling make it feel light and more spacious inside. Nice big menu of standard fare. We tried a bennie and Ms Peggy egg-white omelet (ham, onions, cheddar, avocado) both with home fries. Omelet was perfectly done and seasoned nicely, good home fries that were well done with a nice crisp (appreciate a well not raw potato), all served with warm biscuits.
