BEST BREAKFAST IN MONTCLAIR! Unlike many other places in the Bay that decline in quality and service over time, this place holds it down. ESPECIALLY the biscuits. The most fluffy, perfectly baked biscuits. The friendliest staff. They even bring a water dish out for the dogs. Oh yea, dogs welcome too! Outside of course. Ambience is super chill.

One of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. The Diggery Inn has everything you need for an amazing meal at a reasonable price. These hard working lady's provide a comfortable, inviting and friendly place to recharge and relax and refuel. Doug's Signature was my latest find on the menu. It includes Two Poached Eggs and Chorizo on Toast or English Muffin. Matt says check this place out!

Great breakfast/brunch. Eggs were perfectly cooked. Staff were friendly. Neighborhood gem to visit.

A very convenient spot for a quick fill. A salad and a glass of white, just what I wanted. Street parking.

So delicious! They always come through when craving a hearty delicious breakfast. Definitely a neighborhood staple that I very much appreciate! Usually always order to pick up but the inside is bright with large windows & clean and owners and staff are there are always so nice! A great place to meet a friend and grab lunch and a beer and sit outside as well! Good people watching loc as well. Thanks guys!

I've lived 5 minutes away from the Diggery for my entire life, yet I'd never gone until the other day when my friend and I went to breakfast. I was blown away with the service and quality of food! The servers were quick, attentive, kind, and polite. The restaurant had very few other patrons, so we got top notch service. It was quiet and toasty; great for a good catch-up visit, or chill morning meal. I ordered the 2 pancake, 2 egg, 2 sausage combo. It was delicious and a large quantity of food for a great price. The ladies working frequently asked if we wanted coffee refills, and then sent us off very warmly, waving out the window, when we were done. It was a delightful experience and I highly recommend this sweet neighborhood gem. I'll certainly come back again and again!

I love supporting local but unfortunately this was a miss in my books . Got the chorizo Benedict and the hollandaise sauce which to me is the co star of a Benedict was awful. Way to vinegary causing separation and clumps in sauce . Then the side of potatoes it comes with fooled me. It looked as if it was seasoned only to find out the potatoes tasted like the oil they were fried in was the same oil they used to fry fish in. The chorizo had little to no flavor , in my opinion this dish lacked flavor . And 4/5 bucks for a coffee w no refills just shocked me. The ladies were nice but it did not make up for my lack of food . Cute place , can't tell you that I'll be back.

Awful sums up this dump trying to be as good as Denny's, but falling short in every way. Just when you think that a cook couldn't screw up something as easy as Huevos Ranchero, you haven't dug yourself into the third ring of hell that is Diggery Inn. Salsa was pure crap and piled high on top of two not fresh GMO corn tortillas. Just under the shit salsa you will find processed cheese food masquerading as jack cheese. Diggery cook du jour couldn't even serve the two over easy eggs without tearing the yolk and unfortunately the watery shit-4-salsa was all over everything. It would of been wiser to use canned salsa, at least you know what is in store. I had a few bites and moved my plate to indicate I was done. Server didn't ask about the food, quality, taste and appeal. She also didn't ask if I wanted to order something else and since three bites apparently indicates satisfaction with a plate of apathy, the bill reflected Diggery Inn's credo, serve crap and collect the cash. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Wood Tavern met the criteria for a relatively nice American restaurant in North Oakland. We visited for lunch and wanted to make this special for our mom, so we were perhaps a bit overdressed in business casual, but this is Oakland after all. On an ordinary Thursday, there were multiple groups waiting outside for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM. That in itself should tell you how popular this place is. My wife and I dined at sister restaurant Southie next door a few years ago and really enjoyed it (I also rated it five stars on Yelp), so I was confident Wood Tavern would not disappoint. I initially booked our reservation using OpenTable to link it to my account and get 100 points. Since the max party size for Wood Tavern on OpenTable is four, I had to call to get it changed to eight. Due to the large party size, the restaurant also required me to give them my credit card info and be subject to a $25 per person no-show fee. Upon arrival, our tables were ready for us in the back corner near the open kitchen. The restaurant is true to its name with a shared bar and dining room space that evoke the feel of a wood tavern. Here's what we had: Wine of the Day * Rosé (100% Zweigelt), Stefan Pratsch, Niederösterreich, Austria, 2024 ($16) "N/A Libations" and other drinks * Cherry Bomb! non-alcoholic cocktail ($13) - Tilden Lacewing, Amarena cherry, lime, ginger beer, tall glass * Shirley Temple ($5) * Diet Coke ($5) * Iced Tea ($4) Soup & Salad * Red & Golden Beet Salad x2 ($16 each, one with fish added for $8) - frisee, castelfranco, pistachios, orange segments, Laura Chenel goat cheese, Cara Cara orange vinaigrette Sandwiches * The Hot Pastrami x2 ($25 each) - Emmentaler cheese, Dijon-horseradish dressing, La Farine baguette Old Reliables * Seafood Stew ($32) - rock cod, Manila clams, PEI mussels, calamari, butter beans, fennel, leeks, chili flakes, garlic toast * Pork Ragu Casarecce ($30) - Castelvetrano olives, Pecorino Romano, Grana Padano, chili flakes, parsley * Tavern Burger with French Fries on Acme Soft Bun with All the Fixins x3 ($25 each, two with cheddar added for $2 each) Everything was excellent. As for what to order, I recommend all of the dishes we got. It really just depends on what you like and/or what you're in the mood for. Everyone loved the food. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, the pastrami was one of the best I've had anywhere, my mom raved about the seafood stew, my brother-in-law gobbled up all of the casarecce, and the burger was outstanding. Service was polite and speedy. Our server Sophia C was awesome. We split one of the salads and the stew, so they came out plated and served in half portions which was nice of the kitchen staff to do.

It also comes with a small side of coleslaw. They use a Dijon dressing that is absolutely fantastic. Be sure to ask for extra dressing.

While this visit was in between the lunch and dinner rush, unfortunately I think they are understaffed because at the time we sat down there was only 1 person who was busing tables and taking orders. As a result, it took a while for them to be able to stop by our table and provide water, take our order, etc. There was quite a long wait between sitting down to ordering to actually receiving our food. By the time we had actually received our food, almost an hour had passed. While we were waiting, a few other servers eventually joined, but service was still pretty bare for us and we never received refills on water or plates to eat off of when we received our food. I understand that staffing and a backup in the kitchen are out of the staff's control, but it would've definitely helped for us to know in advance how long to expect to wait to align our expectations and arrange our plans for the day. Would advise giving customers a quick heads up/warning because that on its own would've made a big difference. As for the actual food, we ordered the mac trio with elote mac, chicken pot pie mac, and kogi short rib mac (for an extra fee). The elote mac was the best and most flavorful, the short rib mac was okay but not amazing or worth the extra money, and the chicken pot pie mac was very bland/flavorless and didn't have much chicken in it. The food didn't feel like it warranted the wait time and because of that I would not return.

It's a cute delicatessen/restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Immediately the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The woman at the register was very nice and asked if we had any questions. My mom and I shared a pastrami sandwich, Brussels sprouts, fries, and slaw. It was reasonably priced for the Bay Area. When they brought the food to the table I was shocked. Everything looked amazing and very appetizing, and the portions were much bigger than expected. Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

The 1/2 pound of wings kinda surprised me because it was 2 flats and 2 drums. 4 in total. Thought maybe I'd get at least 6. Deviled eggs. They looked soooo good. Benedict (buttermilk biscuit, dungeness crab cakes, marinated swiss chard & beet greens, herbed hollandaise, poached eggs & mixed greens): I'm not a huge benedict person because they can feel heavy, but this one was fantastic. I loved the textures and flavors of the crab cakes pairing with the greens and vegetables. It felt balanced and not too creamy or exhausting to eat. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill brunch benedict. Vegetable Hash (roasted sweet potatoes, garnet yams, sunchokes, cauliflower, cremini mushrooms, celery root & onion, savoy spinach & poached eggs): This was also delicious and also set itself apart from the standard brunch hash. I loved the different vegetables in it besides being just potatoes and onions. The mushrooms and root vegetables worked really well together. Everything was well-seasoned. I'm glad we ended up choosing these dishes even though neither were my original top choices (I decided on the menu with my friend). It made me feel like you can choose anything and it'd be a banger. We were quite full from these dishes, and we forget we also ordered beignets to come out last. They were fluffy and mostly air (but not in a bad way). The service throughout the meal was good. We were checked on from time-to-time and our waters were refilled, although I wish the water glasses were a little bigger. One small thing to note was that we were given the check while we were still eating, even though the restaurant was still seating people despite it being close to closing time. Unsure if/why we were rushed like this. Overall, this was a memorable brunch spots I've been to in the Bay (dare I say one of the best?). We left smelling like a campfire. I would recommend it.

But then we found Portal! We're not fussy people, and we loved the more down-to-earth vibe of their patio. Plus, it's got heaters and an extendable cover, which was exactly what we wanted! The previous owner, Kevyn, was great to work with, as was the current owner, Mona. We decided to rent the patio and have Portal provide drink service and dishes, but we knew that we wanted a specific restaurant (which doesn't have its own seating area) to provide the food. Kevyn and Mona were both totally down for that, and completely helped us bring our vision to life. There was space for our 50 guests to sit, for the buffet, plus enough space left over for a small dance floor area. Really perfect for our group. Amber, their bartender and events coordinator, deserves a particular shout-out. She worked with my spouse and me to come up with three custom mocktails that fit our taste preferences and even thought of cute love-themed names for all of them! She really went above and beyond for it, having a mocktail tasting for us and even sourcing a non-alcoholic champagne to use for n/a mimosas and in one of the mocktails. It was a wonderful experience, and Amber was a joy to work with. She the one making the mocktails (and alcoholic drinks for guests who wanted them) during the reception, and we heard constant compliments. I imagine we'll be back for anniversary brunches in the future :)

Food is consistent, homey (in the best way) and always delivers. I usually go with the Portal plate but sometimes I'll venture out and get the corned beef hash- both are divine. My boyfriend has tried multiple items and we are NEVER disappointed. Also- their mimosa pitchers are good and STRONG (if you're into that). Def a local fav!!

The beers on tap were really good and their pizzas where equally as good. The vibe was really cool and I love how much seating there was. The outside is massive and they also have a cool smaller inside which can still sit a fair amount of people. Staff was super friendly as well. Would I come back.. if I was in the area yes for sure. Good drinks and food and if you want to catch a game they have TV's for that as well.

It was a windy night, but people were still here to enjoy the environment, the heaters were on, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. We sat at that patio next to the fires and ordered a few beers from their long list. We also grabbed a pizza, as I had not had one in a while, and the chicken Tikka Masala Pizza looked good. I enjoyed my IPA while she enjoyed her Lager, and when the pizza came out, it looked fabulous. We dug into and both agreed it was amazing. We scarfed down that pizza and chugged our beers and had an amazing time as always at Drakes!
