Sad that there are new owners. The previous owners were great. The older gentleman in the back was an amazing cook. All the food was great. My last visit I walked in and realized the previous owner were no longer there. I just figured maybe the family took over for the day. Come to learn that the previous owners are no longer there and cooking is a sad day for me and many. I order some dim sum and chow fun. The dim sum tasted the similar but not the same. The potstickers just weren't quite the same flavor as before though. The hamm su gook was close but again missing something. The chow fun was no where near as good as before. I could barely eat it. There was no flavor and it wasn't cooked well. Look at Dim Sum House as being a fast food joint for little steamed Cantonese treats. It's quick, cheap, and pretty good for the amount you pay for the food. Don't expect a huge selection here because they only serve the more popular dim sum dishes. If you're looking for something outside of har gow and sui mai you can always order their special or one of their noodle dishes like chow fun. All the smaller dim sum pieces are 25 cents and the larger pieces like the steamed pork buns are 50 cents. Noodles dishes are only $4.25!! You gotta park on the street and there's only 4 tables in the place so if it's getting busy your best bet will be either to get it to go or eat in your car. If you're feeling friendly you can always share a table with a random stranger - I've done that a couple times with some interesting results. My word of advice when coming here is not to expect an 4 star Chinese Restaurant, expect a 4 star Chinese hole in the wall that serves fast yet limited selection of quality food. read more

I've been coming to DSH for years and it is still one of my favorite spots for combo rice plates for 5-6 bucks. Its a quick, cheap lunch or dinner and you get a lot of bang for your buck. If you're looking for an extensive dim sum selection, this may not be the place for you. They have about 8-10 selection on average I'd say and they're good! Prices are anywhere between .65 to .90 cents a piece! If dim sum is all you need, you'll get it quite fast! The made-to-order food can take a pretty long time so plan ahead or call your order in advance. Otherwise, this is a nice stop for some very affordable, great food. They have REALLY good pork buns and shrimp dumplings (Hah Gow). However their chow mein and fried rice was pretty average. The prices and portion sizes can't be beat. You get a lot of chow mein for only $6. The pork buns are a good size and cheap and they really stuff the to go boxes and DIM SUM! So definitely a really good deal for the money. This is more of a lunch kinda place seeing as they close at 6:30 pm and the girl behind the counter told me their busiest time of day is between 11am and 1pm. We'll definitely be back next time I get a pork bun craving! I would give it 5 stars but the whole place is really small and not the cleanest place i've ever seen. It's old school Tai Shan style dim sum, down to the tiny bits of mushroom inside the shu mai. Even the pork in the char shu bao is more shredded as opposed to chopped/cubed. Selection is very limited, just ten items or so on the menu, and dirt cheap. Shu mai and har gow are $0.60/piece, joong (zhongzhi, aka sticky rice) are $2.70/each. They use five spice powder inside the sticky rice which is a bit unusual, but they're pretty good. Rest of the place is low-rent at best. There's so limited inside they don't even have tea. o_0 Part of me says it's so basic here it's actually rather meh, and honestly for traditional Cantonese-style or Hong Kong dim sum, especially anything properly modern, it's very meh. We come here once a week for dim sum and beef chow fun. But today will be our last visit. You got to be careful when serving food. There was hair in the dim sum and aluminium from the dishwashing sponge/scrub in the chow fun. Not appetizing at all, very unsanitized, and swallowing aluminium can be hazardous. Decided to come to some dim sum house to try something new. If I could give this place a zero I would I got the lunch special chicken fried rice it was very bland and most of the rice didn't wasn't even covered with soy sauce. The baked teriyaki chicken bun was okay I wouldn't get it again. The shrimp dumpling was very weird wasn't like a normal dumpling also very bland. My friends got different things such as the chow mein noodle and sesame chicken and they said the same thing no flavor what so ever. Food took forever to come out. They were nice though. Customer service: they do get busy but they are fast and efficient at getting the orders down and ensuring you are out the door as fast as possible. Environment: super casual atmosphere for everyone except for groups larger than 4 people. Then you would ask to combine tables and see if the will allow it. Pretty good food for the price, the pieces are big, however the potstickers have a really thick dough. I prefer potsticker dough on the thinner side. What they say on the reviews about the wait is true, ordering off the menu does take a long time. But what they have for walk up is awesome and the customer service is really fast and friendly. I find myself going there once a week. I love the red bean sesame balls, they are the best I have tasted anywhere and they are twice or even three times the size you get at other dim sum restaurants. Just leaving downtown my lady and I decided to pop in for a quick lunch. We have been here a long time ago and remembered it being better than this experience. From what I've read they've undergone new ownership. Their online menu says vegetarian options, there was one, sesame buns. They were good, not great. Cons: -There isn't a public restroom. -There dim sum selection is 6-8 items depending when you go in. Everything was a pork dish with the exception of a shrimp dumpling, a rice cake, and one sesame seed option. Pros: -The price was good $.65 each sesame bun and $.65 each shrimp dumpling. -It was clean in the dining area. -It was quick We'll try this place again in a few months to see if any things changed. read more

How have I lived in Curtis Park for almost a year and am just NOW realizing the greatness of Dim Sum House? Literally across our street, they've been one of the best soup-alternative hangover cures around, and not to mention CHEAP! I'll be the first to admit, the place looks almost abandoned and that's probably why I never really looked twice. But step foot in this humble abode and the aroma of fresh dim sum will have you instantly hooked. I really don't understand the high reviews for this place. Frankly, I had high expectations and was pretty excited when we ordered some dim sum and noodles. But sadly, I was sorely disappointed and lost my appetite for that matter. We got a dozen of my favorite shrimp dumpling (ha gow), a half dozen of pork shiu mai, a baked pork bun and steamed one, and an order of noodles that I can't think of the name of, but it's the one that has the crispy fried noodles and you mix it. The only item I really enjoyed was the baked steam bun. Full of flavor, the bun tasted fresh and it was perfect in taste with each bite. I wished that we got more than one. The rest of the meal was very " meh, I've experienced better!. All of the items sans the baked pork bun were flavorless. Yes, flavorless. Not even the hot sauce or hot mustard could save them. It also didn't seem fresh to us. The noodles were slothered with too much onions that it saturated the taste of the sauce tremendously making each bite unbearable. Plus, it was flavorless. So pretty much it tasted like onion noodles. Ick! Even though I've only visited this place one time, it sure was enough for me to stay far, far, away. I'd rather pay higher prices and get good tasting dumplings at New Canton which is just a few stores down. read more

I have been going to Dim Sum every weekend for the past 15 years, and I've been doing so in San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, Washington DC metro area, and as of 6 months ago, now in Sacramento. Since moving to Sac, I've tried every since dim sum place at least twice. This one is the worst. In San Francisco, it's sometimes fun to go to the tiny Dim Sum takeaway hole in the wall shops for dirt cheap dim sum that tastes pretty darn good and is decent quality. This place resembles those hole in the wall places in SF china town in the size of the shop, low prices, and small selection of items. However, the big disappointment is that the shiu-mai are totally bland, the har-gow have thick skins and little shrimp inside, the pork buns are almost all bun and not too much pork, the pot stickers are bland, and the fried items are all cold. The low quality ingredients really shine through in a bad way. They do not taste fresh. It's sad, because I love to get a good deal when I can, and I've been back several times in the hopes that the quality might improve, but so far it remains poor. After reading all the yelp reviews I was excited to try this place, we came on Saturday around 1:30 or so, there were no customers besides a family sitting at one of the 2 tables in the little place having their lunch. After seeing the size of the hargow and siumai, hubby decided those weren't worth it, so we ordered 2 baked baos (1 cha-siu and 1 teriyaki chicken) and those weren't any good. The buns were ok, but the fillings were skimpy. We also ordered 2 Jin-Duei (fried dough things with the red bean paste inside) and they were decent but VERY greasy. Finally we ordered also 2 Wu-Guok (Taro dumplings) and they were also VERY greasy and too much of the dumpling and not enough fillings, once again. We took all 6 items to go and had them in the car (we had somewhere to go and we were hungry) and if we weren't hungry, I think the stuff would've tasted even worse. Sure wish there were better dim sum places in Sacramento. New Canton is decent but for those who want to have the dim sum without the crowds, the wait, the time it takes (i.e. you want the food but not necessarily the "experience"), there's really no place for that here in Sacramento. Overall, we were disappointed. The food didn't seem very fresh and everything tasted gross. I know that a lot of dim sum dishes are deep fried and I've had them elsewhere and they don't taste stale or just unappetizing like they did here. I work down the street from this restaurant. It is the most convenient quick place to get food. The a la carte items are decently priced and delicious. I go at least twice a month (maybe three shhh) and I'd go more if it were healthier. They have other items and plates if you prefer one of their specials like beef broccoli etc. It's a small mom and pop joint and they are super friendly. They are very popular and sometimes run out of what I'm looking for, usually sesame balls. The steamed bao buns are delicious and the potstickers have a nice touch of ginger. We're split on this place in my house - I love it, and my husband does not at all. It's certainly a grimey hole-in-the-wall with questionable sanitation standards - but I love it! Their pan fried noodles are crispy deliciousness, if not totally heavy and salty and obviously terrible for your arteries. Their little shrimp dumplings are delightfully gummy and I love their thick, chewy pot stickers. I used to think the woman who works there hated me, but I think that's just the way her face always looks. The best part about this place is it's super cheap and amazingly satisfying.
