This Dimassi's in Irving is amazing! I think it's a new one compared to the one in Richardson. Although I like the setup in the Richardson one better, the food some how tasted better at this one. Been to Dimassi's for lunch on several occasions, and always a winner. I visited today around noon time and to my surprise, the food was cold and the gyro meat (which I came for) was cold as well. My husband and I waited and waited, but the gyro meat was never replenished from the few cold pieces in the pan, so we had to leave to get back to work. We waited for fresh hot Gyro meat until 12:50 p.m. Don't think we will take that chance again during lunch. You would think the restaurant would be fully prepared for the lunch crowd:-( read more

Very large buffet with lots of salad options, curry, gyro, chicken and beef kabab, several rice options, and several bread options. They also had a dessert buffet with fresh fruit, cake, cookies, and baklava. My family enjoyed everything they tried and we all waddled away stuffed and happy. We came on a Thursday evening and there weren't too many people. They came and cleared our used plates in a timely manner. The lunch buffet here is awesome. $10.99 includes drink, soup, coffee, tons of different salads, meat, rice, pita bread and dessert as well. There is a lot of variety at this buffet place. The lamb shank is very tender and the meat is very juicy and succulent. The gyro meat, cauliflower and eggplant is very flavorful as well. They have a new owner (who was in the kitchen demonstrating proper pita bread baking technique to the cooks) and staff, and they have made so many improvements - seperate dessert bar, several new salads, three types of hummus, basmati rice, poached tilapia, lamb shank, grilled vegetables, the pita bread is perfection, not to mention rose water and tamarind water to quench your thirst. Oh, and today the atmosphere was so much nicer than before because they have added pleasing background music. If you haven't been here in a while, it's time to visit again. No fancy-shmacy stuff here. A buffet, neatly arranged and named. Large, no nonsense seating. Check out like a breeze. The hero here, is the food. Which is the ideal situation. Usually, I have been to places where the 'other' things can be star worthy. Food - is real Mediterranean cuisine. Falafel, kababs, baba ganoush, hummus are the usual. But, hand pies. pasta salad are good too. Their tabbouleh and pitas are freshest! My second helpings are predictably both of them. Our team lunches win the votes for this place unanimously. I was invited there by a good friend who is Egyptian. I found everything to be delicious. My friend explained many of the nuances between Greek, Lebanese, Egyptian,..... food preparation and ingredients. I found it fascinating and very tasty. There's something for everyone. I'm not normally a vegetarian but I pretty much filled up my plate with vegetables, hummus, cucumbers,... before i got to the meats. I did not want to make 2 trips do i piled more on. I should have made 2 trips. Only had one piece of grilled chicken and something similar to a sausage but would have liked more but am glad I enjoyed all of the vegetables. Gyro meat was pretty typical of whats cut off of one of those large rounds but what made it so special was the tzatziki sauce. Three different desert pastries along with fresh fruit. Didn't try the Rose Water but the tamarind juice was great. Also hot tea and coffee available and ALL is included. Sorry no photos for this review but will add next visit hopefully this week!! When it comes to Mediterranean food/Buffet, Dimassi's definitely worth a try. The food is fresh and flavorful. Being to several locations, I was glad to find out that the taste of several dishes that were served at both the locations (Irving/Richardson) were exactly the same and consistent (which I noticed at several other restaurants to be not true). I do hope that there will be more options for desserts, Both the locations had 3 different choices and although this is more than enough, it's going above and beyond that will set apart this restaurant. One of the must try culinary delight is the eggplant dish... (I dislike eggplant's with a passion but was drawn to this dish). Now, If you are feeling a little adventurous, make sure ask for the lamb shank, this is given on a "ask" basis. The meat was softer than butter, my only problem was that it was quite bland. The humus is also a must try, especially the spicy one. Regarding safety, I was happy to see that everyone was wearing masks when moving around and there were ample gloves and utensils that were clean. Had a craving for Mediterranean food, we typically eat Mediterranean at least once a week because it is so delicious but this place was less than thrilling. First let's start with no one being at the front table when we walked in, nor could we see any workers on the dining floor. With it bring our first time here we were unaware that you just walk in, seat yourself, and go to get a plate without talking to anyone. A worker did end up coming inside and mumbled for us that we pay at the end, he did help me get a high chair for my son but it was so dirty and wobbly, I had my husband sit near my son so he could keep a hand on him so he would fall. Would not talk much to fix these high chairs and the liability it's risking is far to high to ignore. These must get fixed and should also be cleaned and maintained. The Buffet does have quite a few items so it's a good variety. Once we picked out what we were going to eat we sat down abd began trying everything. Overall the food was extremely bland. The potatoes tasted like they boild potatoes and served it without anything on it, the Fry's (for my son) we're soaked in oil and baked and actually had a rubbery texture. The taziki (typically my favorite dip) was pure liquid and very bland. There was a yellow chicken that tasted like it was cooked in only yellow mustard (very strange). The pita bread was hard to the touch. :( let's move on to the few items that were okay. The only items that my husband and I ate was the falafel, these were decent. Next would by the gyro, we liked the flavor and the size of the cut. I will say that I found a bunch of plastic in the meat (see pics). It was most likely the plastic cling around the gyro before they cut it but the sheer lazyness means the customers could easily be eating this. I have good eyesight but many older folks do not and it really upsets me that they wouldn't be able to see the plastic and would eat it. If the gyro meat didn't have plastic I would say it was the best thing here but we didn't have much to choose from. Lastly the hummus was good, it had a nice texture, not to much oil, and a pleasent flavor. Overall I would say the bad vastly out weights the good. The restaurant has to do the following in my opinion to make it better, 1. Fix all high chairs 2. Clean and maintain all highchairs- always remember babies use these! 3. Remember to take out all plastic from food prior to bringing it to customers. 4. Add more seasoning or change the cooking style of all soggy foods. read more

My wife and I were looking for an early dinner and came upon Dimassi's. We took a stroll around the buffet and agreed that it looked great. We found the salads to be very fresh. The hot foods were quite good, particularly the curry chicken, which I was told was the first time on the menu. My wife loved the curry soup. The grilled veggies were fresh, but some were undercooked. I picked around for more done pieces and was pleased. The weekend buffet, at $15, is a bit on the high side, but you get a good selection. Being early, the place had too many out of control young kids. I'd expect a quieter experience later for dinner or at weekday lunch. I've been twice now and sort of have a routine down. The lunch prince is $11.99 and includes a soft drink. There are plenty of food options to choose from: shwarma chicken, falafel, gyro meat, salads, tabouli, several varieties of rice, fish, beef, and even a few American dishes. Grab some fresh pita bread, they're sort of "hidden" in between stations and are excellent. The house made hummus is very good, and I also prefer the garlic sauce (although be prepared to repeat it throughout the remainder of your day). The interior is wide open and provides plenty of seating space for parties of all sizes. The staff is quiet but friendly and there's always one or two employees walking around clearing plates, wiping down tables and keeping the place generally clean. I've been sticking to the protein - I love the chicken breast. It's moist and has a wonderful flavor. It pairs well with the garlic sauce. There are a few options for desert: rice pudding, baklava, etc. There are also vegetarian options for those who want to skip the meats. Roasted veggies (cauliflower is popular) and the falafels are excellent. It's easy to get in and out if you are on a short lunch break. I came to this location because I thought it was Dimassi the same one in Plano and Richardson but boy was I in for a surprise. The food quality was not the same. Nothing tasted the same. The kabob was not real kabob, neither was the chicken. The gyro was just sad. If you're going to franchise your restaurant, make sure the franchisee uses the same recipes. From the looks of it it seems that the owner sold the name to a Pakistani and they're selling Pakistani food, which would be fine but this is a middle eastern restaurant!
