DiMassi's is a Mediterranean buffet place that just opened recently in Las Colinas and I decided to give it a try with some coworkers of mine. The location is brand new so I really have no comments about the decor and atmosphere beyond that it's a pretty large place for the area. You can definitely seat a pretty large party here if you push a few tables together. The buffet line had a large selection of different dishes and there was a good split between vegetarian and meat options. They cover pretty much all the common Mediterranean dishes that you can think of (hummus, tabouli, gyro meat, falafel, etc) but I have to say that I can't think of any dishes that really stood out. I would say this place sticks to the buffet conventions of offering a lot of food that tends to be mediocre in taste. Besides the mint in the tabouli salad, there was a general lack of flavor in the foods (particularly in the meat dishes). I think the best part was that they had quite a few dessert options since I have a weakness for baklavas. With the above being said, this is still a pretty solid buffet in general but I think I would only come here if I was really hungry and just wanted to be filled. The price for the lunch buffet is good at 10.99 and comes with a drink so I think you're getting your money's worth when coming here. I would recommend coming here at least once during lunch to see whether or not you like it. read more

I decided that you can't go wrong with a Mediterranean buffet but I left disappointed. The good: the pita bread, hummus, okra and the gyro meat. Literally everything else for me was bland. The hummus also looked like it was in a ninja blender for a good hour because it came out ultra-pureed, like hummus flavored baby food. It was still one of the better items. I would much rather have a much smaller, 10-item buffet with the quality of each dish the same as a decent Mediterranean a la carte menu versus having the variety they had but at such bad quality. Even walking around, most of the customers seemed to have so much food leftover. The baked fish was swimming in oil, the rice overcooked and mushy, and the tzatziki tasted like straight up greek yogurt. Nothing seemed to have much flavor. Not my thing. Compared to other buffets, this is the most amazing buffet. What makes this the best is that it is all greek and Mediterranean food!! The food is always fresh and this was my second visit here. I originally tried this buffet because of the coupon on Groupon. The price is $13.99 for dinner buffet, and comes with a drink. The food is very fresh and always hot! As soon as one of the food options is running low or out, the staff works very fast to get the food back on the line. The baklava is to die for. I love it so much. We stumbled upon this place and I had to convince my husband, who doesn't prefer Mediterranean food (or so he thinks), to try this buffet. You go in and seat yourself and help yourself to the buffet. (No waitstaff, nothing fancy- just good food). Wow just wow the selection was extensive. I had so many flavors on my plates (because I wanted to try everything). Very tasty. The bean salad and cucumber salad are refreshing. The homemade French fries were seasoned (I'm not sure with what) and were really good. The gyro lamb was good. I tried Dolmades and some other items for the first time. I got my money's worth ($15, includes soda) for sure! Especially with the baklava for dessert! I had some trepidation based on the other Yelp reviews I'd read but I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit. I'd hazard a guess Management read the other Yelp reviews and made corrections accordingly - smart move on their parts. Like many others, I came with the family bearing a Groupon on a late Sunday afternoon. Having never been to Margarita Ranch I had no basis of comparison for the current state of decor - I thought it was fuss-free (think Danish modern) more than plain, and there were enough luxe accents in the wall art and marble serving line to keep it from feeling like a Luby's. I didn't experience any dried-out meat which has been the #1 complaint I've seen and the kefta kabobs were great with just the right amount of spicy heat (Hubby raved about the fried chicken, but I was there for Mediterranean food, dagnabbit, not American). The brisket was better than anticipated; Hubby ended up making "brisket tacos" out of it and pita pockets - I guess you can take the boy out of Texas but you can't take Texas out of the boy. I WAS disappointed with the Greek style green beans and spinach - the base veggies were obviously canned and suffered from being mushy and too salty as a result. I know that food costs are a primary concern for restaurateurs, but if they made the switch from canned to frozen (if fresh is cost prohibitive) I think it would make a HUGE difference. Roasted cauliflower was a much better choice, as was the thick and smoky baba ganoush (hummus wasn't BAD, but not memorable either). Like other reviewers have said, dessert is where Dimassi's seems to be struggling the most - it seems to be prefab for the most part, but taking that into consideration it was pretty good. My #1 complaint with the desserts was the lack of serving tongs put out with them - the cake squares and baklava were placed in paper cupcake wrappers and heaped on covered serving trays; just reaching in and grabbing them with my hands - paper wrapper or no - just seemed gross. So - final thoughts: would I go back at full price? If it was just me or me +1 and it was too late in the day for the buffet at Terra.... absolutely. I'm just afraid that the little nook of Las Colinas they've situated in might be oversaturated where it comes to Medi food. read more

The on thing that stood out was some of the dishes offered were not really Mediterranean and the desserts were just okay. The Greek salad, hummus and babaganoush were good. There were also numerous vegetarian options. My co-workers really enjoyed it but it wasn't the best nor the worst in my opinion. There is a lack of service for sure you walking in, get your food and pay on your way out. It's efficient and you can keep your tip money. I chose two stars for this grade simply based on the two-star description: 'Meh. I've experienced better.' SPOT-ON, Yelp. First of all, KUDOS to Dimassi's for actually putting the front door on the FRONT of the building. The previous tenants [Margarita Ranch] had the door on the side, and it just didn't seem right. We, like several others, came here using their $13.00 Groupon offer. We were also charged $2.15 for taxes on the full $21.98 normal price which was a little odd and devalued the Groupon a bit, but we paid it and went about our lunch business. While I always did like the Ranch decor, Dimassi's has completely stripped the place down. Like another Yelper said, it's quite reminiscent of a high school cafeteria. As soon as you walk in the front door, you are greeted by a cash register on the left, a long buffet at the back, and a vast, stoic room of tables and chairs. Want to have a private conversation during your meal? Look elsewhere. I only hope they plan on decorating the place a bit more, because my son's pediatrician's office has a more lively atmosphere than Dimassi's. I started with the Greek salad, your basic blend of lettuce, tomatoes, kalamata olives and Feta cheese. I had to pick out several pieces of lettuce that looked a bit sketch. The salad description on the buffet tent included olive oil and Balsamic vinegar, but it was only after I sat down did I realize it was NOT already mixed into the greens. Speaking of descriptions on the buffet tent, it would have been nice to actually reference the tags while I was making my selections. They were ALL over the place - while the tilapia was very tasty, I wish I knew what the sauce was because it definitely wasn't the same as the pulled meat label [which was easily four spots to the left]. I skipped over the gyros and the chicken fajitas considering they looked very sad and dry. I opted for a few large pieces of cauliflower, a piece of grilled chicken and, against my better judgement, a small piece of chicken kebab. While the grilled chicken thigh was extremely good, the poor little mustard-marinated kebab was NOT. Again, sad and dry. My husband confirmed the gyro also followed suit... I DO give a thumbs-up to the hot pita bread. There is little in life more satisfying than a hot, fresh, fluffy pita. I stuffed half with some of my salad greens, chicken and a smear of hummus. Yummo! I didn't try their large selection of rice, the falafel [again, looked pretty dry] or the two soups, but the rice looked fresh and fluffy...like...rice. However, I did make some room for a small dish of rice pudding with a good sprinkle of cinnamon. I had to stop myself at one serving. SO good! The one thing that confused my husband and I the most is that it was about 2p when we made our visit -- WELL after the lunch rush. However, this didn't stop them from having the full HEAPING trays of meats and at least 30 pita bread on the buffet. This may explain why the meats were so dry; I certainly hope they don't carry it over to dinner service! We came, we saw, we ate, and we lived to tell about it. Would we go back? Eh, maybe if they're still there in about six months and have had some time to decorate and cut back on their lunch hours...and if there was another Groupon. Would we go back tomorrow at full-price? First of all, we tried this place because we had a groupon. It was $13 for a lunch buffet for two, and they charged us $2.xx for tax. I've never had that happen before, not sure what that was about. The food was mediocre, at best. If you've had real Mediterranean food, this place is going to disappoint. The salads were all runny with dressing, and not as fresh as you'd like it to be. The hummus seemed store bought, or at least mass made only to feed the hungry that don't care about taste or quality. Baba ganoush is pretty runny. Their bread tasted exactly like what you'd expect from a regular buffet, nothing spectacular. The lamb was extremely dry, and their chopped brisket was dry, also. This place is yummy. They have fresh Mediterranean food. I've had their hummus, lamb, chicken soup, which was really really good. The baklava is good. It's very casual and cafeteria style. You just walk in and go straight for the plates and seat yourself. It's clean and they're constantly rotating out food so you know it's fresh. For a buffet, the food is pretty good. Love the interior decoration. Most middle eastern or desi places are usually not so clean. So, it's good to see a nice clean place. The price I think is very good for what you get to eat. Bunch of people from the office cone here at least a few times a month. It's becoming a regular spot for us. The chairs in my table were messy, had to ask the cleaner to clean for me, she just wiped with a soaky WET cloth and thats it... so should I stare until it gets dry..? so took matters in to my own hand...wiped it with kleenex..:( SOme of the plates were not clean...The floor near the buffet booth was very wet and tiles on the floor made it very slippery. I warned couple of diners and was hoping no body would slip and break there backs and fortunatly no body did (atleast while I was there) Now coming to the food, I only tried veg on this visit, there are many healthy Salads which I tried for the first time and i liked them. OH YEAH, gyro meat by the pound! While dining-in is something of a crap-shoot at Dimassi's (depending on when you visit) the takeout value is great! $6.59 a pound (at the time of this Yelp review) for fried cauliflower, gyro meat (shawarma), garlic sauce, and kafta kabobs (sausages) TO GO is an awesome deal. Yes, there are plenty of other options on the buffet line that are available for takeout, but those are my family's faves. Yes, sometimes the food tastes inconsistent depending on the time of day and who's manning the kitchen, but at this price, I'm not going to complain (much) when I can get my food in bulk. Desserts and bread are an exception to the bulk price deal, but I'm not the type to fill up on these things when the other menu items are plentiful and available. FYI, this location is a Las Colinas/North Irving address, which is an upscale area compared to everything else south of Northgate. So even if you balk at the idea of venturing to Irving, this location is plenty safe. read more

Great selection of good but overpriced and decor is a very loud high school cafeteria setting. Lunch on sat. and sun. is $13.95, very pricy for a lunch buffet, especially if you don't eat meat. Some veggie options are missing sometimes like the cauliflower yesterday, not a good thing. They were also out of pita bread all the time, they started making new bread like 5 minutes after they were completely out of it. Buffet can be messy/dirty sometimes, I eventually saw the cashier guy finally cleaning up the spilled food around the buffet area. The food itself is ok and love to eat the non-meat options here like the salad bar, hummus, eggplant, cauliflower and potatoes. The deserts/baklava is good as well. The interior is terrible as I said earlier, like a loud high school cafeteria (the location in Richardson is about the same but has a couple booths. The Austin location is actually pretty nice, way nicer than this one). Also dirty plates etc. everywhere spread out over the tables. I've been here when groups of children were literally screaming and running through the restaurant for 20 minutes non-stop, no parents or staff that cared about this. I do come here for the food though but rather eat outside at a Sonic than eating inside here. I come here on occasion for the veggie options but that's the only reason. Tried most of the items, all were definitely good. Hummus wasn't what I expected from a Mediterranean place, other than that.. Can't say one bad thing about the food. They do have more items for dinner and for weekends and the price goes up with more items. Will definitely come back with a bigger appetite to try more stuff. My favorite items so far would be the garlic sauce and Gyros. I ate went to the buffet for 3 rounds and even after my last plate, my first 2 plates were still on my table and no one came by with pita bread. Overall -- the experience and quality of food is just ok. The large selection was a major plus! The food is never the best (and definitely not as tasty as Andalous across the street), but not bad either... just neutral. Since it is a buffet - service is lacking (even at the register -- perhaps because we used a Groupon both times we've come here?). During both visits, we went right at 6PM and a lot of the options either weren't out or were "about to come out". Tried this place with a Groupon. A friend and I first ate here just before Christmas and thought it was just, meh. It is large and clean and bright which was a plus in my book. The offerings were plenty but my major gripe was that there are too many items that are not Mediterranean.. seriously, why call yourself a Mediterranean restaurant and then serve fried chicken and fish and other accoutrement that don't back up the name of your restaurant. I get that these are cheap foods and easy to make and typical buffet items but that is not why I come here. I'm on the bland truck on the food also. Meats were dry, yogurt sauce was too runny, and as I said before too many "buffet" foods. Service was ... well there was no service. We waited several minutes before someone finally came out from the doors behind the buffet and just waved us over to tell us to help ourselves and sit wherever we want. I tried a second time before writing this review because I wanted to give them another try to be sure it wasn't just the mood of the evening or something. I wasn't any more impressed and while this place is very close to my office I probably won't go back. There is another Mediterranean place across MacArthur, Andalous I believe, that is so much better if I have a hankering at lunchtime. Otherwise I will curb my Mediterranean desires until dinner and go to my favorite in Arlington... which I am keeping a secret because it's already too busy! ;) read more

I'm a Dimassi's fan and have eaten at several of their locations in the Houston and Dallas area. This location is probably my second favorite. The buffet is very large and I appreciate the gyros being provided on the bar ready to be served. Not all locations do that and it's a pain to have to order them and wait, but this place they are ready to go. Awesome. The place is clean and nice but the restrooms were so scented you could smell them 20 ft away in the dining room. gag! They were so strongly scented, none in our party would use them. Anyhow, the food was good and we enjoyed our meal. Just be sure to use the restroom before you get there or you'll end up smelling like a french hooker if you use theirs. read more
