This is my third time coming to this restaurant and every time the food is so delicious and filled with delicious seasonings and flavors. The chicken suqaar and chicken legs are so good and have the perfect amount of flavor and spice, the owner Hasan is such a nice man and his wife is also very sweet. The sambusas are also so good, there's chicken, beef and fish! They have this good green hot sauce (bisbas) that goes with everything and it adds a great amount of spice to whatever you're eating! read more

This is about as 'in the wall' that hole in the wall restaurants go, in more ways than one. Situated in an out of the way strip mall, with barely two door widths to their name and not enough room to comfortably fit 4 tables, they're serving authentic Somalian comfort food the only way they know how. The place is owned and operated by a Somalian Muslim family who do anything and everything to keep the place running. They're friendly, attentive and pretty quick on the drop. Food wise, it's nothing that's going to blow your taste buds away, but it's a solid value for some real comforting food. Their beef sambusas are a star for sure, that chilli water really makes it, and their pasta is surprisingly tender. It's not something I'd want but something I'm happy to eat. You don't see it much anymore, but this is truly an ethnic restaurant holding down its roots right here in Dallas, or a little ways out of it. I'm not going to lie. I walked in and almost walked right back out. The other reviews described this place as a hole-in-the-wall, but I feel even this is effectively an understatement. This place is TINY. It's a little square room with one long table that can fit 6 on the left, and two rectangular tables that can sit 4 on the right. It's tight. When we walked in some other patrons were eating and they said hi and then continued going on in Somali. Every once in awhile theyd shout back that there were customers. We didn't know to go up to the window. None of the tables were clean. I told Mohamed what I wanted and went to sit in the car. I understand small spaces but I feel the floors and table should be clean. My husband laughs at me and says this is par for the course back home and I'm too American. The food tastes wonderful. I'd recommend the goat over the chicken. It was cooked slowly and was fresh and spiced wonderfully. The chicken, they didn't make it too spicy, and to be honest they were right in that because my husband doesn't do really spicy food. He loved the chicken. The rice was also made well. I'm visiting Tx and was craving Somalian food. Found Cafe Medina online. Took mom there as a surprise because she never tried Somalian food before. The restaurant is small but beautiful! Both of us shared a half-chicken with rice and vegetables as well as 1 chicken sambusa and 1 beef sambusa. The chicken was perfectly cooked with a delicious marinade or rub that was infused for great flavor. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and helpful to us as we placed our order. When I walked in, I was definitely a little concerned. The interior is pretty shoddy and you have to order through a window into the kitchen. But trust me, what comes out of that window is pure deliciousness. I opted for the goat and rice. The goat was extremely mild and perfectly braised, however watch out as there is some meat attached to bones. Make sure you try the sauce available on the tables as it really compliments the dish. Would you take someone here on a first date? Nope (unless you wanted to ensure there was a second). I have no idea what I ordered, I was a little confused, but it has chicken in it and tastes great. Very flavorful, but not hot spicy. Lots of veggies mixed in so it's probably healthy too. Like others have said, as you walk in the place appears a little shady, because it only has about three tables in a very cramped little room. Don't let the looks fool you though, because the food is wonderful! I and a business partner got our food to go, and it was delicious. He had the beef, and I had the goat. The portions were also surprisingly generous for a very low price. With a little work on the interior of the restaurant, this place would be absolutely perfect, but if you ignore the looks and just focus on taste it really hits the spot. read more

I picked my sis up from the airport and we kinda got lost (oops). So we searched near by eats and much to our surprise this place popped up. Now, we pulled up and we were like " umm let's keep driving" but I put faith in my fellow yelpers and OF COURSE they pulled through!! From the outside it looks closed and from the inside it looks on the verge of closing. Cheap table and chairs and no decor to speak of, well there is a large flat screen tube tv . There wasn't any clear sign where to order but we found a menu next to a window peering into the kitchen. A gentleman popped out the back and greeted with a warm smile. We placed our order (lamb & rice) and lentil sambusa. The food arrived shortly after and o. M. g. It felt like we had gone to someone's home and they made for us an authentic traditional Somali meal. The lamb was tender falling off the bone and the sambusa was the biggest surprise of all. It was perfectly flaky and seasoned. Topped with the green sauce it carried just enough spice, it was delicious. The people are so welcoming and kind and the food is delicious and cheap. Found this place and I must say I was a little taken aback at how small and plain it was inside. But OMG my friend and I shared the fish fillet over basmati rice and it came with the best peas and carrots she'd ever had (I'm not a veggie eater). The dish was AMAZING and was only $10 and added a water bottle and soda for only $2. If you want great food at unbeatable prices definitely come here. For $12 I got an excellent roasted lamb shank on a bed of fluffy and delicious rice with a portion of stewed vegetables. The decor is lacking and the place may appear run-down, but their target clientele is probably fine with that. Overall, based on the price and what they are trying to accomplish and the quality food that results, they simply couldn't do any better. Eat here.
