Horrible service. Lost our reservation and tried to stick 6 people at a tiny table for 2. Argued with us over putting us indoors. The server poured a different wine into my glass that I was not even done with and when I tried to stop him he rudely told me I wouldn't even notice. First off, a nicer staff you can not find in many restaurants. Well dressed , very polite and attentive. Being a New Yorker I'm always less attracted to big places. This place is large. Too large for my taste. Upon seating the table is given a lovely sample plate of olives, cheese and salami. Very nice touch. The menu is old school dishes , best if you stick to those. Great veal dishes, I also saw a few very attractive pasta dishes being served. The asparagus wrapped in prosciutto is kind of bland , I wish it had more interesting seasoning Brussels sprouts came out roasted and nearly burned. I don't mind that if they were sautéd with pancetta or some interesting herbs. The veal franchase however was wonderful! Nice batter, tender veal and perfect saucing I think the main courses here are above average yet the apps lacked The prices are very fair also Lastly. It was a Saturday eve but upon going to the rest room I was shocked at how many people were in the Bar room. We had a lovely celebration dinner here. Such a gem tucked away in a mostly residential area. The only negative here was the it was VERY NOISY and very hard to have a conversation. This is down to sound acoustics and not crowds. Although it was very busy - especially for a Wednesday evening, tables were well spaced out and we were not at all on top of any neighboring tables. Part of the issue was we were sat at a very large round table in a little alcove. We were all sat along the banquette basically in a line - which added to making it hard to chat. That said - we had a lovely evening and a wonderful meal. Now, I normally don't review Italian restaurants. I don't go to them very often because most of the dishes served are ones I make - and it sometimes pains me to pay the prices you pay to eat out when my versions at home are just as good and more economical. That said, there are PLENTY of dishes I don't make - and I do love to go to a place that does those dishes AND does them well. Welcome to Dimora. Sure there are plenty of old standards on the menu but there are also so many gems. We started with a pitcher of the best sangria (yeah, sangria!) that I have ever had. Rich sweet red wine and a ton of fruit. It was amazing. It was so smooth and so drinkable that it would have been super easy to over indulge. The waiter told us to try it - and we are so glad we did. Bread: They don't just give you a bread basket. They give you a small plate with cheese, olives, pepperoncini, and hard salami. The only issue is that there were only a very few of each item - and not even enough for each person to have a taste of everything. On to our first course. We had oysters! Now I love oysters, but they are absolutely NOT something I do myself. Shucking them is just too fiddly for me. These were fresh, briny, and delicious. For the 4 of us we had 1.5 dozen which was an expensive indulgence (at about $3/per) but I'm so glad we did it. We also had fried calamari which was tasty (and just the rings, no legs) - but not much different from what you'd get anywhere - and not as good as many asian places prepare it (which I am sure is down to seasoning). So stick with the specials and the more unusual appetizers. Main courses: I had chicken scarpariello - a dish I love and don't make - and don't eat very often. I only ordered it because they serve it on the bone. It was amazing. Everyone else ordered off the specials menu: bronzino, halibut, and soft shell crab. We all tried all the dishes, and not one was found to be lacking. They'll fillet the bonzino for you unless you WANT to do it yourself. All the dishes were well balanced and well seasoned. All three were different enough that we feel we got a real taste for what the kitchen can do. Dessert: Simple and sweet: cannoli and coffee. Be aware there are two in each serving so this is an ideal dessert to share. Honestly at that point HALF of one was enoughfor me - so one order could feed four for dessert if appetites allow. Service: Attentive and friendly. Everyone was trying very hard to make sure we were happy. I've seen some reviews ding the service but I can't really complain. We did have a couple of small issues (missing plates, and one missing dish) but these things were handled right away. As a matter of fact, very soon after our dishes were served the chef stopped by to see how we were. At that point the bronzino had NOT made an appearance (it was probably being filleted at a nearby station) and we mentioned we were waiting for that so we hadn't started to eat. He looked perplexed and immediately went in search of the dish. It WASN'T at the station - but it took no time at all until it was on our table. I thought the filleting job was a bit of a hack - but the fish was delicious. If not for the small lapses, this place would have earned 5 stars from me. It's an expensive meal (but then again oysters, a pitcher of sangria, dessert and coffee due tend to add up) - but I'd be back. Lots of stuff said about this restaurant is blatantly false. The noise level is definitely not moderate to the point where I have to raise my voice just to talk to someone sitting across the table. This is partly due to the parking lot situation right in front of the windows in some cases. We waited an hour for our food because of a mixup and then the entrees came out first so they took it back into the kitchen when I honestly would've been just fine with the entrees coming out because we were so damn hungry. The mozarella em carozza was fine if not a bit flavorless but nevertheless it had a good texture and was enjoyable with the marinara sauce. However the Tortellini alfredo was a bit of a letdown. The sauce was very cheesy if not too cheesy (and I really like cheese) and overall the dish was very one note. It had a overwhelming cheese and cream flavoring but not much other than that. It was a dish where you would most likely get tired of it after taking a few bites. Overall I believed Dimora is overpriced and understaffed and I sadly won't be returning again. read more

Went here recently with my family for a birthday celebration. We were served appetizers, dinners and dessert in a little over 1 hour. The restaurant seemed like they added additional tables so it was loud and crowded. The food was good and the wait staff attentive but it felt like they were just trying to turn over tables as quick as possible. At the amount of money we spent we should have been allowed a more leisurely dinner. We had our dinners before we finished the appetizers. Then we asked to wait a little before dessert but 3 separate people came by and it felt rushed. This was not my first time eating here but I think it will be my last. It's too bad. read more

Came here for a rehearsal dinner but was quite let down after reading all the reviews on here. Food: As a whole the food at Dimora is not the worst Italian I have had...but definitely not close to being the best as a whole. The salad was quite pedestrian, the Penne ala Vodka was a bit watery for my taste and the Veal (or should I say Tilapia) San Remo although cooked well, did not jive with the sauce. The dessert however was quite exceptional with their Ricotta cheesecake and choclate mouse being some of the best I might have ever had. They were rich, moist, and best of all tasted quite light and were a welcome end to the meal. So with alright food and bomb desserts you might be wondering why I am so down on the place. The answer can be summed up in 1 word: Service. Just to give you a sample of the serving woes faced by myself alongside other complaints I heard from the party: -I asked for Red wine and was served White -Though I ordered the Veal San Remo, I was served Tilapia. I am pretty sure Veal does not flake and smell like fish -The sister of the groom was not served her entree until almost the entire party had finished their main. In fact the staggered serving of the room meant that some tables were a whole course ahead of another. Let's just say, from the time you walk in and see a woman deboning the branzino at the door spitting and talking over the fish, people waiting for their tables with their hair over the fish, you immediately get disgusted at how unsanitary this situation is. We finally got to sit down in a very loud, over crowded room. The waiter said we were lucky to be at his table but, after a few minutes Everything we ordered was sold out - about 5 different times. Eventually, everyone ordered something they really didn't want. While we waited approximately 1 HOUR for our main entree to arrive we witnessed the owner serving fries to another table but, first she put a few fries in her hand right off the plate, served the fries and walked away and shoved the rest in her mouth. This is the same lady at the door deboning the brazino! After that we witnessed another waitress drop all the sugar packets, pick them up off the floor and serve them to another table. Gee, I wonder what goes on in the kitchen if things like this are going on in front of you. I declined my meal after the 1 HOUR wait and the owner's son came to scream at me to tell me I had to eat the food because his 65 yr old father who is the chef would be mad if he sent the food back. NERVE!! Our friend finally got the steak and it was bloody and still mooing, she almost threw up when she took a bite. We had to give her a napkin to spit in. If you want to leave with an empty stomach, overpriced bill, and angry ...go to Dimora. I personally had a better meal at the local pizzeria! Will never ever go back!!! read more

We use to like Dimora.....maybe even love it so far as any restaurant west of the Hudson. Not any more.... Had dinner there last night to celebrate my folks anniversary....party of 7. Of all the appetizers and entrees, almost everything was delicious but great case of 1 bad apple..... My wife ordered the shrimp scampi off the regular menu. Was supposed to be served with risotto. Dish came out and was remarkably uninspired even if this was served in a diner for $12.95. Shrimp was dry with no sauce. Risotto was rice pilaf and pedestrian at best. Owner (Gino's wife) made excuses when my wife noted it to waiter but really inexcusable. If circumstances were different, my wife would easily had returned the dish but with party of 7, just wasn't the groove. Amazing how the staff or Gino didn't simply comp the dish and unapologetically $35 appeared on the check. This misstep put into question other dishes served like my daughters 3 mushroom pappardelle. Was claimed to include porcini mushrooms but didn't. Finally, the evening felt a tad like a hustle in an effort for the servers to turn our table. Our entree was served in breakneck speed from the time they cleared our first course plates. Was like a race for the staff!! Anyway, want to say again, all else was very good....some dishes were great. My grilled calamari salad was delicious. My shrimp francese entree was delicious. We have been to Dimora before and had good experiences. Last night, we had a really poor experience. The restaurant was severely understaffed. We watched a bartender run out of patron midway though making a margarita, so he grabbed a bottle of a different type of tequila and mixed it in the same glass. Our silverware was not clean and we had to wait ten minutes after our entree was served to find someone to give us a knife. The food was mediocre which I chalk up to dining out on a Monday and and overburdened kitchen. The calamari special was overcooked and came on a bed of wilted iceberg lettuce. The shrimp Fra Diablo had no Diablo. Hoping it was a one off bad experience and hoping this review will let the management clean up some of these issues. read more

This is a spot I may never had found were it not for a lifelong Bergen county resident in the know. Is that a thing? This place definitely got everything right for 5 stars. Food, service, upper echelon Bergen county atmosphere, and even price for those of us with a lower station in life like me! The reviews are correct, the Bronzino is as good as advertised. It's served on melted butter next to perfectly cooked spinach. I may ask for no butter next time, it wasn't needed. The chicken parmigiana was also exactly as you'd hope for. Crispy, saucy, and with fresh mozzarella. As was the eggplant. I definitely wouldn't hesitate from anything on the menu which isn't my usual Italian restaurant advice. Please stay at the bar a while, socially distanced of course, but not too distanced... the crowd has a story to tell that is probably worth the listen. The cocktails are on point and crafted perfectly. This is a great gathering place for sure and the food service and valet is commensurate. Not once did I feel anything but welcome. And it's inexpensive or reasonable for what you get. Not the usual Bergen county "tax" for being a genuine scene. That's a great experience especially during a pandemic Friday night. If I could give Dimora below a 1 star, I would. I have been to Dimora a total of 4 times. 2/4 being very nice lunch dates with my mother that made me want to return a third time. Upon the 3rd visit, I brought my boyfriend for a date night. We are in our early twenties and usually we do not experience any differences in service with younger couples however this time was different. The crowd was older which is okay however the waiters serve you and speak to you very differently from older guests. (almost as if you are unimportant) My boyfriend and I had no reservation on a Friday night and showed up in sweatpants to eat outside, hopefully a quick meal. My boyfriend and I love to go out to eat and also called ahead seeing if there was a dress code, which i was responded with a no to. The place is a lot fancier at night so we did feel a little awkward but didn't really care because we were so hungry. The customers next to us were so stuck up and snobby, speaking behind our backs about our outfits.... so this obviously ticked us off to begin with. The server rushed us unbelievably quickly telling me to put my phone away at the table and scoffing when I gave him a questioning look about his own comment. We were SO uncomfortable by this atmosphere that we decided to take our food home and leave the table unattended. The manager is arrogant and loud, speaking volumes over the music constantly which is also not even calming (its like Spotify's "top hits" so most of it is explicit lyrics... ) I have worked in the restaurant industry for over 4 years, ( very high end places) , and I would never treat a customer like this no MATTER WHAT. The mission of an establishment should be to bring enjoyment through the food and the connection to each customer. I'm paying your business and for YOUR paycheck. Because this last visit was partially our own doing (of just being hungry and going out in sweats/feeling a little awkward), we decided to give it one last shot. Obviously dressed nicer, we went on a less busy Sunday night. The waiter rushed to get our orders as I was taking off my coat. RIDICULOUS. when I mentioned the rushing, the waiters rolled their eyes. Their tables are NOT 6ft apart and they placed a loud family of 6+ behind my bf and I while the ENTIRE restaurant had empty tables. The children were running around in a higher end restaurant with no masks on (or being enforced) and playing loud children's music through their iphones... I wouldn't normally mind this behavior however it was astonishing to me that a server had the audacity to say to put my phone away but will let a child run around maskless with no comment. Finally, my boyfriend and I got our meal- food was subpar with very little flavor: basic dishes . We ordered dessert and tried to salvage any goodness that we could have had at this meal and were then left unattended from 7:00 pm to 7:28. When we asked for the check, the waiter outwardly said "Why are you rushing me!?" ((as if he was imitating how uncomfortable we felt when we first sat down.)) I'm sure this restaurant gets good reviews for certain servers but on both occasions this was not the case. We have told our friends and family about both experiences with full detail and we/them will all not be returning. Loss of 15+ customers. We were also promised compensation for our first situation by the manager (literally because he knew that we were mistreated) and that was not followed through. It seemed as if the restaurants renovation was paralleled with my own physical renovation. I only wish my contractors were as good as theirs, metophysically speaking. I died and woke up in an Italian food heaven!!!! I met the owner Gino at Sear House and he said I should try his restaurant Dimora. I was very skeptical about this place at first. But it was a Tuesday evening and I didn't feel like cooking, so we decided to give this place a try. Valet parking took care of our car right away. We went in, immediately were served cheese-bread appetizer. Wasn't a fan of it, but hoped the food would be better. Then we saw Gino. He was sooo friendly and nice! I told him I like pasta and he immediately ordered a complimentary pasta sampler for us. Oh-my-God!!! The gnocchi was to die for!!! I have tried gnocchi in dozens places, but this was something else!!!! Then we ordered lamb chops for my husband (of course lamb again *rolls eyes) and I ordered Branzino as Gino had recommended. Branzino was out of this world! I am not easily pleased with food (look into my yelp review history), but this was a truly good dish!!! Prior to the rest of the party arrival, had a few very strong drinks at the bar, tended by a very friendly bartender. A lady, presumably Gino's wife, kindly sat us down at a corner table by the window. The waiter, another very charming fellow, was attentive and engaging. He recited the long list of specials. His one mistake was not tending to the wine after each of us were finished with our respective glasses. Now, we have all been to Italy and every top notch restaurant in Manhattan. The standard of food here is clearly subpar in comparison. The potential is within reach, but the entire table wasn't impressed. My spicy veal was probably the best dish. The specials are exorbitantly priced, so you may want to ascertain the cost with waiter before ordering. The decor was very nice. I especially liked the touch the copper pots gave. read more

I've relied on Yelp for several years for accurate reviews of restaurants and have usually not been disappointed. I was so unimpressed by Dimora's I felt it necessary to write my first review. Our party of four visited Dimora's Saturday, March 21. To their credit, we called last minute and received a reservation on a Saturday night and arrived to a packed restaurant. Good, I thought. The waiter asked if anyone would like a cocktail. Two from our party did, two did not. (one was underage and I didn't want anything). Appetizers and main courses were described and we proceeded to order 3 appetizers and 4 main courses. My Carpaccio Di Manzo was very large for an appetizer portion, I actually wound up splitting it with someone from our table. This was more of a case of "quantity over quality" but it wound up being the best part of the meal. The other appetizers were a Caesar salad and a pasta appetizer which were fine. Our four main courses were: Capellini Amatricana (mine) which was comprised of a large amount (6-8 ounces) of angel hair pasta; an odd choice I thought for this dish. The description mentioned onions, tomatoes and bacon. I often have this dish in a restaurant in the city (with a buccatini pasta as the base) so I was expecting something similar. However, this was nothing more than a glorified pomodoro sauce and a flavorless one at that. I couldn't find anything in the dish that looked like or even tasted like bacon or even pancetta. There were two nondescript pasta dishes, one with fusilli pasta and eggplant and the other was a gnocchi. Both of my companions said that the dishes were "alright" although the substantial leftovers from the one dish were left and not taken home when the waiter asked if we would like to take the leftovers. The final dish was a special. It was described as a seafood kebob over risotto in a scampi sauce. There were pros and cons about this dish. Again, there was plenty of food. The seafood was cooked to perfection the salmon was very moist and tasty and the shrimp were large. The risotto was good also. However, it was doused in oily scampi sauce which just pooled all over the plate. We really had to make an effort to avoid the sauce and picked at this dish. As a result, most of the risotto was left untouched while we just ate the seafood. During our dinner the waiter asked our cocktail drinkers 3 times if they wanted another cocktail. Give it a break, if you get a "No" after the second ask assume they're done drinking. That was a minor issue though. What pushed us over the edge at this restaurant and the reason why I even wrote this review at all was the dessert. We ordered 3 desserts; a cannoli which was fine, a piece of chocolate cake which was devoured by my daughter before anyone could even get a bite so I guess it was great and the "Champagne Zabalione" which was not only visually a disaster but was also inedible (it was later taken off the bill). The consistency was way too thin because there was so much champagne used and the taste was overpowered by the alcohol. What a way to ruin a perfectly beautiful dish of strawberries. It really pains me to write such a review. I totally appreciate the effort that goes into running a restaurant and I understand that everyone is trying to make a living but this restaurant needs to be fixed. The cooking staff is too heavy handed with the sauces and they need to pay more attention to detail. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here we go. read more

Everything was flawless - food was delicious, drinks were flowing, staff were attentive, and the atmosphere was very nice. The list goes like this: complimentary cheese plate, grilled calamari salad, avocado and shrimp salad, ribeye steak, red-clam sauce linguini, and spaghetti with lobster. Fabulous! Terrific food & Great service, valet had car waiting for us when we left. I had the seafood linguini which was served with a lobster and my husband had the veal osobuco. Despite the huge portions we just about licked the plates clean. Also great for private parties.
