A solid spot for good dim sum in the Richmond area. With so many dim sum restaurants in the area, our friends all recommended we try this out. We went on a Sunday morning, just before 12:00 noon, and the wait was nominal. Among the four of us, we orders a variety of dim sum and dishes to try. All were tasty and delicious. Service was attentive and quick. The space is large and bright with a modern design. For $14.50, it was a reasonably priced lunch combo and I found the portion size really filling. Chicken was fried nicely and I really enjoyed the fried basil leaves too. The tofu, marinated egg and beans added variety to the meal. There was rice packed underneath that you do not see in the photo. The drink was a bit on the sweeter side. Customization of drink was not allowed which was understandable for the price. Service was fast. You can order online for pick up or delivery. I received a text update on the status of my order. I do not know what is wrong here as the food I had was quite bad, when compared to other outlets. I generally have a good experience with the dishes at Dinesty, but the two items I ordered for take out was awful. The wontons in hot and sour sauce was not what I expected. The sauce tasted more like ketchup, more sour sweet than spicy. The zha jiang mian (noodle with homemade meat sauce) was very salty. The noodle itself was al dente and chewy, very nice. I like how it was packed separately from the sauce. Unfortunately the sauce was super salty that it was impossible to finish it. I do not recall these dishes being like this at other Dinesty outlets, so it was quite disappointing. Service is good and I like how the staff warn me beforehand the stewed pork belly + steamed buns will take 30 minutes to cook before charging me. That allowed me to decide if I have the time to wait that long. The entrance is also confusing as you have to enter two sets of doors to get there. Convenient underground free parking with clear sign directing to the parking area near the elevator. When we came out from the elevator, we passed by a tea shop and the restaurant was right next to it. I like the location especially on a rainy day. Service was decent and servers were friendly. Looking for a quick bite before going to the airport. The Richmond location is my favourite by far! It's clean and spacious! The Steamed XO Sauce & Pork Soup Dumplings XO was my favourite, flavourful. However I did not like and would not order the Steamed Shrimp, Scallop, & Pork Soup Dumpling again, it was almost tasteless. The wontons in sauce is a must. I used the leftover sauce to eat with my soup dumpling as well. The cucumber garlic cold salad was refreshing, it was lightly pickled. The deep fried squid was extra crispy, it had the perfect crunch. The squid was thick though, I didn't mind. It reminded me of cuttlefish density. 5 months hence and decided to try this location again, and I must say, that things seems to have improved. The place was full - even on a Wednesday evening and the staff looks energized. The xiao long bao is now thinner-skinned and has the savoury soup that is a must for good XLB! The Kaofu was served warm and bursting with flavour and the noodles nicely done. Gonna up the rating to 4 stars now as I do think it has improved a lot. ......... MY ORIGINALLY REVIEW. Always had good experiences at the Dinesty in Burnaby and the old (now closed) #3 road locations, but since it was Chinese New Year day, thought best to book at this Gilbert rd location as I heard it's bigger. And yes, it was bigger and nicer looking but not sure why the food is not as good as at their other places.Say the sesame and peanut noodle was drowned in the very bland sauce, practically like drinking peanut butter mixed with water! The tofu soup with minced beef (west lake tofu soup) was equally tasteless with hard ground beef floating about. Ouch! Same with their usually great Xiao long pao - ours had very hard skin! I mean it's steamed dumplings, how can it be hard. The rest of our meal was ok, but those 3 items really put a damper on our appetite. But to their credit, they did NOT charge us anything for the doggie bag containers ... and we really had quite a bit left over. Sorry for the pictures of the half eaten dishes - I was not going to do a review until after tasting the above disappointing dishes. I'll probably come back again as it IS convenient to drive to and park and hopefully they will read our reviews and correct the shortcomings as some of us has outlined. We were in Vancouver for one day and wanted dumplings. I ordered the pork soup dumplings and my bf ordered the spicy pork soup dumplings and the steamed pork dumplings plus some fried rice. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the food delivered to our hotel and each container was labeled with its contents (I was glad to know what was spicy and what was not ). Compared to other establishments in the Richmond locale, Dinesty dumpling house has a very open and modern atmosphere, almost hindering the whole "Chinese" experience. With a modern approach , I am forgetting I am in a restaurant. Although I'm not critiquing their choice of design when it comes to the modernization of a "dumpling house" it offers highlights of society's trend. Menu They have decided to offer a generous amount of items in their menu, without being excess of a hundred items. 5/5 Food Compared to other establishments, Dinesty targets a more niche market of "Dumpling goers". The dumpling is pretty hot because it is on a hot plate. Be careful of the hot soup! Fried screw buns with condensed milk 10/10 It's really done well! Especially with the spiral shape, it's easy to break the bun into bite size pieces to dip in the condensed milk! Delicious and I definitely prefer the fried version over the steamed version Wontons with hot and sour sauce 9/10 - not really spicy but delicious! The flavour is really good but doesn't sting your tongue! Lots of chili oil used and the wontons are hot and go well with the sauce! Steamed pork soup dumpling 9/10 - really good and doesn't break apart easily! I like it with the vinegar and they have ginger too but I felt like it didn't pack enough of a punch. Went to this restaurant shortly before the 3rd wave of restrictions from COVID19 Pandemic. My significant other had heard much good from this chain of restaurants. We parked in the underground parking, and went up to the restaurant. At first glance it was grandiose, a huge entrance way with several display fridges where one can purchase dumplings to take home. we were then ushered into a very large restaurant, open concept which allows one to see the chefs prepare the food (that part was really cool) we ordered soup dumplings and a few other dishes to give them a try. the food was not as tasty as we had hoped. The soup dumplings for example, a very interesting concept, didn't have much soup in them. A plus is that they came with instructions, and that made it easier to eat. the price was not too bad, but we did order more of the simpler dishes to try more things. In hind sight, it may have been better to order less of the more complex dishes. The service was excellent, and our waiting staff was very kind. One of the waitresses came to ask how we were doing, but didn't seem prepared for our answer (as we wanted to order desert), it appeared she did not speak much English but quickly went to get an additional waitress to help. All in all the meal was satisfactory, and we will likely try another restaurant in the chain. read more

I've been to this location multiple times before the pandemic but decided to order delivery recently, and I'm happy to report that for the most part, the quality of food is the same! As of writing this review, their menu is 20% off on DoorDash, which I think is a pretty good deal. Food ordered in my most recent experience: - Baked radish slice cake - delicious, a must order for me every time. Regular price is $4.50, at 20% off for 3 pieces, I think it's a great value. - Chinese spinach & bean curd - decent portion size and tasted just as good as I remembered it. - Cold wined boneless chicken - one of my favourites, I love how it's boneless and the wined taste is perfect. Also keeps well for the next day. - Kao-fu with stewed mushrooms and peanuts - we almost always get this, I would get it again. Has a variety of stewed items that work well together. - Pan fried marinated beef wraps - probably not the best thing to order for delivery, but I recall this being good fresh. Was acceptable for delivery. - Steamed pork soup dumplings - I asked for "raw" dumplings so we could steam at home and they followed instructions. They included a packet of their dipping vinegar. Tasted just like having them in the restaurant! - Wontons with hot & sour sauce - although they did not follow instructions here with sauce on the side, these were still very tasty. - Camphor & tea smoked duck - this was delicious. I thought it would be dry, but it wasn't overly dry. It had a wonderful smoked flavour and paired well with the steamed buns it came with. Great portion size, too. - Pan fried garlic beef - a little disappointing. Although the flavours were good, the beef was super chewy/tough. Steaming the leftovers the next day fixed this issue, though. - Stir fried rice cake with salted vegetable - we always get this at the restaurant, and I have to say this time was not as good. It was not salty at all, which is quite different from the many other times I've ordered this. I'd go with chicken over pork as it's less fatty. When I dined in here previously, I recall the interior being very clean, spacious, and modern. Service is great and efficient (although not overly friendly but I have no complaints). They are also connected to Yi Fang so you can order drinks with your meals, or head there after your meal for a tasty treat. Dinesty (Gilbert Rd) Last visit 6/06/2019 Full disclosure, I didn't mind the one at Aberdeen (3.75 stars, 7.7/10, now closed.) but I strongly dislike the one on No 3rd & Acroyd Rd (both times we tried it was disgutingly oily, I've never had desire to try them again. 2.25 stars, 5.7/10) so we had to try here to see if it was more the former or the latter. Xiao long bao - XLB (pork soup dumplings)... Nowhere near the succulent ones at Top Shanghai (Acroyd Rd); which tasted identical to the World-famous ones at the temple district if Shanghai, but better than food court quality. Both the soup and pork were underseasoned, but at least they tasted fresh and non-oily. 3.25 stars. Chive dumplings: not bad, pretty clean. Pan fried dumplings similar to the pan fried pork soup buns, minus the pork and the soup. 3.75 stars. Shredded pork w/ hoi sin sauce & pancakes; actually crepes. Wrapping proteins in crepes is a common thing in Chinese cuisine; the flavour was very good; although the pork was a hair overcooked, it wasn't enough to detract from the dish. There was a lot of leftover pork (not enough crepes) so we had to order an additional order of pancakes for $3.50. The crepes themselves were perfect, and incredibly consistent 4.25 stars. Shirmp and pork shaomai (xiao mai or siu mai) is a bit of a misnomer; these are essentially xlb with a small shrimp on top, minus the soup. Fortunately, these are better than their xlb. 4 stars. A larger prawn would've made all the difference. Hot & sour wontons: similar to other Shanghainese spicy wonton, but the additional dimension of sour in the flavour profile made this more appetizing than I expected. While I prefer the spicier ones at other places, the slightly milder ones here allowed the Mrs to actually enjoy them; usually they're too hot for her to enjoy. 4.75 stars Since they have the Coconut tapioca (sago) that I've been pining for since Fisherman's Terrace removed it from their menu. The coconut milk was as good as the best I've had; the sago (tapioca) was a great texture and consistency, but hadn't absorbed enough flavour from the coconut. 4.75-5 stars. Since I got a dessert, the Mrs ordered dessert for herself in the form of taro buns. They were moist and tasty; taro doesn't have the most intense flavour, so these buns were also fairly mild. 4.25 stars. Overall my favourite Dinesty so far; however a tad pricey; our meal for 2 was $59.38 before tips, and we had only a little leftover (just a bit of the pork crepes) Top Shanghai still sits as the best locally. Having said that, this is the closest you can get to dim sum for dinner in Vancouver. 4 stars,  8.0/10 Recommended: Coconut tapioca, hot & sour wontons, shrimp xiao mai, shredded pork & pancakes. Avoid: nothing yet at this branch; at most other branches I'd avoid anything fried or the Shanghainese pan fried noodles; other branches are too oily, but this one surprised me. read more

I went to this place, with my mom, for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. This place is spacious and newly renovated in a new apartment complex. On that day, we ordered the Beef & Beef Tendon Noodle Soup, Cold Wined Boneless Chicken and Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings. The Pork Dumplings tasted good. It was not freshly-made to order (firm dumpling wrap), but it was prepared well to most Chinese standard in taste. The Chicken dishes tasted ok. The dish was prepared a while back in time and the meat is tough in texture. Also, the wined marinate was under-seasoned and I can barely taste it. The Noodle Soup tasted great. The noodle was well-prepared and the broth was well-seasoned. The beef and beef tendon was well-cooked and they were tender in texture. I guess the dishes prepared in this place are either a hit or miss. However, I would give them a second seating because they gave us a great service experience. read more

I come here for lunch on Wednesdays since they offer a beef noodle soup and pan fried dumpling special for $10.50. The beef noodle soup has a lot of flavour and the meat is tender. It's a generous portion of noodles as well so I always end up taking home the dumplings. With the special, you end up only paying $1 for a full order of dumplings. The restaurant itself is spacious and there's ample seating for small and large groups. The service here isn't always the greatest. The staff are a younger crowd and some appear to not have a lot of experience working in the restaurant industry. Sometimes it can be hard to flag down staff or you'll ask for a glass of water and it never quite makes it to your table. If you're English speaking, some of the staff will have trouble taking down your order but they'll always send another staff member over to confirm your order just to make sure they've entered it in correctly. Maybe it's just me but personally, I find it gets a bit warm inside the restaurant during the lunch hour especially when they seat you next to the window with the sun coming through. I think they need to do a better job of cranking up the AC during the summer. If you ever want bubble tea right after, the restaurant connects to Yi Fang as well and you can also order drinks from their menu while seated inside the restaurant. read more

Always my go to place when I have a xiaolongbao craving. This Dinesty is the newest addition in Richmond and it's very clean and spacious. The menu is decently priced and very suitable for a family gathering or a big group hangout. This location is special as they have the bubbletea chain YiFang next door so customers are able to order bubble tea with their meal and it is delivered straight to your table. Talk about convenience when you have a XLB and BBT craving! Two birds with one stone. The food quality is always good here and the waitresses are very alert and present. There's also an underground parking lot with ample parking. Lots of other businesses around the area so you can complete your errands at TD bank or grabbing something at Shoppers or even grabbing a dessert at many of the dessert places in the area. I've been to the Dinesty on Ackroyd a couple of times, but wanted to give this location a try. This location is relatively new and is quite roomy - a bit TOO roomy. Perhaps they aren't finished yet because the entrance area has quite a lot of empty space. The entrance can be a bit confusing. Once you come up from the underground parkade, there is an entrance directly next to the elevator. We got a bit lost and ended up going outside and entering through YiFang - YiFang and Dinesty are connected and you can order beverages from YiFang to drink in the restaurant. While not the cleanest (leftover food on the floor under our table), the restaurant has a nicer and slightly more relaxing atmosphere than the hectic Ackroyd location. My bf and I weren't too hungry so we only ordered a fried rice ($13), steamed Shanghai soup dumplings ($8 for 8 small ones), and pan fried pork buns ($5 for 3). Prices are very reasonable, but I won't say portion is HUGE. Taste-wise was decent, but we found the dishes to be on the salty and oily side. The fried rice was also a bit too "wet". Service is a hit or a miss depending on who you ask. When we arrived at the entrance, we waited for some time even though multiple servers passed by. However, we were not acknowledged or helped until the hostess has free. There were around 5 servers (excluding the hostess) working on a weekend evening. Two were not so friendly - we waved down one female server for a takeout box and bill and she didn't say anything, but just spoke into her headset and walked away. After a minute later, a male server awkwardly came by to take our dishes away to pack. He didn't say anything to us. They forgot our bill so we had to ask the hostess when she walked by, who was friendly. There were two other female servers we encountered that night who were friendlier. The one who took our order was prompt and reasonably polite. Five minutes after we gave our order, we wanted to change 1 item so we flagged down the 4th female server. She said they couldn't change the order because it was being made (despite it only being 5 minutes later), but was apologetic about it. Food came out fast! The first two dishes came out 10-15 minutes after we ordered. Overall, this location is not a bad alternative to the Ackroyd location. Prices are reasonably and taste is decent. This will probably be my most memorable dinner, but not in a positive way. Arrived at 6:15pm and told there was a minimum wait of 30 minutes without reservation. Perfectly fine. 5 minutes later were asked if two smaller tables pushed together would be okay, we said yes. We were taken to our table and immediately notice the height difference in both tables. We raised our concern 'bout the table height and the waiter digs into his apron and hands us a stack of napkins and walks away. He doesn't return nor personally try solve the problem. NEVER have I experienced this before; we're expected to level the tables ourselves LOL. BAD! When it came to ordering we're told the pork soup dumplings were sold out. Fine, no problem. But at 6:30pm? We can there's 8+ people in the kitchen wrapping dumplings but OK, they may be prepping for something else. We ordered another variant of the pork soup dumplings, Chinese spinach & beam curd, simmer chicken & chestnuts in brown sauce, fried rice with dry scallops & egg white, noodles with sesame & peanuts in spicy sauce and stir fried rice cake. Food was smaller portioned but it's expected. Food arrived quick and semi-hot, a bit on the greasier side but tasted fine. Environment wise this Dinesty is one of the better ones. This location is one of their newer ones and restaurant itself is very spacious and you are able to easily book a table even on the weekend. Fee parking underground as well. A cool thing about this location is that you can also order bubble tea from Yi Fang. They have a collab together and you can order it from the menu. The two times I came to this location was for a family dinners 6-8 people. The first time was relatively good. All the food was good, similar to all the other locations. Only thing I don't recommend is to order the deep fried tofu with salty egg yolks. Did not look anything like the picture, the dish was tiny and only have a couple small pieces of tofu. Other than that everything was pretty good. The second time I must say I was extremely disappointed. The food came surprisingly fast to the table, within 5 minutes of ordering which was strange. The fried rice, veggies, xiao long bao (XLB) and beef roll were barely warm. The fried rice tasted different from the many times I've ordered it. Dish itself was quite small and there were barely any meat in the fried rice. All the dishes seemed to have shrunk from all my previous experiences at all the locations. We ordered another 2 orders of the XLB and they all came shrivelled up and all the juice was leaked. I hoping that it was a one time thing and the chefs weren't having a good day. I used to go to the Ackroyd Dinesty but I prefer this one more. It is located next to Yifang, which is super nice. Can get my food and a drink at the same time. The food tastes great, especially their XLB. Their frozen selections are also very good. I can steam my own things at home now!
