Wow, wow, wow. In town for a concert at the Grand Prairie theatre. This meal has been 1377 miles in the making. Day of the show, I wake up early and eat free hotel breakfast with coffee. Then went to the movies and finally came to the realization... I need to find a good place for lunch around here. A few great options appeared before my eyes as I scrolled through the yelp search. Some asian places. A bbq. Dino's called out to me, reviews insisting I must eat the blackjack. (21 on the menu, turns out. Named thusly). I arrive at the place after some comical roadway maneuvering fully appropriate to my situation, the magnificent yet mysterious voice of El Goog guiding me to make rights and then use the left lane to turn left 600 feet later. The sign by the entrance reads Dino's ICE CREAM BEER "that's how normal people do it" I muse to my faithful roadtrip companion. This is wonderful. A walk on the normal side, so much distance between us and the dark, bizarre wiles of utah dining. Their menu also informs: YOU CAN TAKE BEER TO GO (the word beer is red). The TV reading "Complete Signal Loss" fit in so perfectly with the rest of the aesthetic of this gloomy, humid may day in Texas. I order my blackjack as follows: the works, no lettuce or onions. Add avocado. Mayo and spicy mustard. The result is an immaculately assembled peppered beef, baked ham, provolone, cream cheese, vinegar, oil, spices on wheat that screams at me in every color of deliciosity. I feel that there is so much more to say but in the interest of time just know this. Nicest staff who joked with us and other customers on our way through the ordering process. I keep trying to figure out what all the hype is about this sub shop. The crew was RUDE, the food was nothing special, and I thought it was WAY over priced. Came in on a Saturday, and had to look over the menu - it was our first time and we let the guy know it. He got all kinds of pissed off because we were asking questions. Came to a decision, ordered, and they didn't hear that we wanted soup as well. When we got to the cashier, she literally told us to not be stupid next time and to order the soup from the first person. At this point I had had enough, so I said, maybe there won't be a next time. Paid for the food, and sat down. Sandwich was a sandwich, nothing special, nothing amazing, and NO taste. I could have had an Oscar Mayer sandwich at home with as much flavor. I read the reviews about not being sanitary and they must have listened. All the employees were wearing gloves and the work stations were very clean. The food was great! I have been a Dino's customer since they had a location behind Six Flags Mall (RIP). Worked at Pizza Mia in the mall in the 80s and 90s and there is only so much pizza you can eat. Beer to go. This place has been around serving sandwiches for so long that they are grandfathered into the old way of doing things and you can get a sandwich and a bottle of beer. Not that I'm saying you should down it in your car. I'm just pointing out that this tiny dive sitting in the middle of Little Saigon has been doing business for a long time. You can have your little gripes about this place--it's certainly more expensive than a chain and they charge for pickles on your sandwich--but you really can't beat it for your standard meat, vegetables, and/or cheese on bread sandwich. They have some unusual choices--banana & honey, avocado, etc--but the basic sandwiches involve a guy cutting your meat to order in front of you and then fixing it up like you like. For something like pastrami, they actually weigh the slices they give you to make sure you get a fair shake. read more

I love this sandwich shop, have been eating here for over 20 years. Having said that, I sure with that their customer service was a wonderful as their food. Countless times I have been met with attitude from an array of employees, both over the phone and in person. Additionally, it is frustrating that in 2023 they havent figured out how to offer online ordering. When they are busy they will just ignore the phone instead of designate someone to handle phone orders. read more

This post is for my visit the other day. My friends and I came here to eat lunch before going to the Ranger's game. They have a huge menu divided into two sections - cold and hot sandwiches. With it being my first time here, it was hard to decide which sandwich to get. They all look good! I got a couple of recommendations from the couple who was in line in front of me. One of them recommended #21 which is the Blackjack sandwich. Later I overheard the people behind me in line talking about getting the Blackjack too, so I decided to try the Blackjack. The Blackjack is one of the hot sandwiches. You have a choice of getting your sandwich on either white bread or wheat bread. I went with white bread, which has sesame seeds on top. The Blackjack comes with baked ham, peppered beef, mushrooms, provolone cheese, and cream cheese. I also got "The Works" on my sandwich which includes onions, tomatoes, lettuce, wine vinegar, oil, parmesan cheese, and spices. The regular size sandwich was filling! It was good too! I would come back and get it again. Although, I would get it without mushrooms. Just a personal preference. I prefer my mushrooms to be sautéed. This was just regular mushrooms. Overall it was still a yummy sandwich. I really enjoyed it. read more
