Just so sad. I love dinosaur. I've had so many great meals at other locations. And the food at this one was still good. But the server, and in turn the kitchen, was just overwhelmed on a Saturday night. Just really slow service, that it distracted from the meal for everyone. She was nice and trying hard, but i think she must have had too many tables to deal with that she couldnt handle our large group. specifically: -15 minutes after we were seated to get waters??? -and then she couldnt even get that right - and it was another 10 minutes to get water for everyone? -and another 10 minutes to get drinks, after that? -standing in one place - at the head of a table of 9 - to take everyones orders? -40-45 minutes to get our food out? -and when it came out, not remembering where it went or being able to direct the busboys who were bringing things out? -and not having checked the food coming out of the kitchen, so there were mismatched orders (my sides were with my aunts ribs, my aunts sides were with my chicken)? --and having multiple sides missing? and having people received the wrong sides? -refusing to bring us a pitcher of water at the start of the meal, only to change course midway through? (bizarre) -refusing to bring me a different type of BBQ sauce, only to change course midway through and bring me a little cup of something? (huh?) -not checking in on us, at all, during the meal? just downright disappearing at times? despite it all, i still love the brand. it just seems that as they continue to expand -- as i feared -- quality control (at least at this location), in a variety of ways, has gone downhill in the name of the almighty dollar. read more

Was really disappointed at the service. Went on a Friday night for a party of two. They told us the wait was 45 mins to an hour yet other people (party of two as well) that came later than us had a seat before us. We went to ask the host why we still haven't gotten a text message informing us and they told us it hasn't been an hour yet and told us to wait 20-25 more minutes. At this point, we waited for around 50 minutes already. So we waited and waited. More people that came after us got a seat before us as well. When we ask the host why this has happened, she just said it in a casual and rude manner telling us to wait. (It was not busy as well, there were many seatings) we ask to double check the number and it turns out she had the wrong number all along. The number was the only way to let us know our table was ready and they actually had the wrong numbers all this time. We asked multiple of times when our table was ready. She never ever said sorry and couldn't care less either. She was extremely rude about it too. I just find that really upsetting that WE, the customers, had to clarify our number for the host. After we waited for another 10 more minutes, she finally sat us, at the most crappiest smallest table ever. The customer service was terrible at this place is terrible. The waiter only came to my table twice throughout the entire time(including asking for check) and I wanted a refill and order but no one was there to accompany us because we sat all the way toward the back. Good for NY. (kind of) If you talk about BBQ to anyone from the Syracuse NY area they will spew out such unending praise for Dinosaur BBQ on-and-on-and-on, they'd use so many adjectives that you'd think there was no way they didn't just look at a Thesaurus. So when they started opening up a few locations down this way, I was intrigued. So I went. It was just OK. It is fine BBQ, but it is nowhere near great BBQ or anywhere near the best BBQ place in NYC. I am from Brooklyn, so I didn't grow up eating BBQ...but I have traveled. And I am usually not the sort to lean-on regional foodism (i am a NYer that believes I can get good pizza outside of NY for example)....but if those folks up in Syracuse ever took a trip to Memphis, or Nashville or any of the big BBQ cities outside of their bubble, they'd see Dinosaur for what it is...just OK BBQ that tastes good because you don't eat great BBQ that often. I found the potions to be really small (especially the sides) and the corn bread to be so dry that I only ate one bite. If you can't wow me with your corn bread, coleslaw or mac-n-cheese, you've lost me even before i try the meat! read more

Let me start by saying I do really enjoy the food here, especially the ribs and fries. BUT the hostess needs to be trained on her role in the overall operation of the restaurant. It was clearly half empty, yet when we asked for a table for 2, we were told there's a 20-25 minute wait. Very confused at this point. She said a bunch of sections were closed (maybe staff more waiters, idk?) But there were even empty tables in the open sections, which we were told other people were waiting for. There was no one else waiting besides 2 people at the bar who were subsequently sat in one of the supposed "closed sections." She's going to damage the success of your business as I'm sure people walk out after hearing there's a wait when it's clearly empty. She was just plain rude and unapologetic too. We ate at the bar, which was dirty and only after we started cleaning it ourselves did the bartender then come around and clean it. She was very nice and helpful, but the experience with the hostess really sullied the whole experience. read more

We were told that the wait for a table for 6 was 25 minutes. That was fine with us, including two small children. Well, we were finally seated an hour and 15 minutes later. The hostess was completely unapologetic and rude. After we take our seats, it only got worse. No one came over to the table for 20 more minutes. I believe the only reason they did finally come over, was because one of us went back up to the rude hostess to inquire. The waitress comes over and takes a seat with us and complains about her day. Then she takes our orders and tells us she is exhausted and will be moving slowly. Another ten minutes goes by, and we do not even have any water yet. One of us goes up to inquire. no water shows. They did however come by with the wrong order twice. We had ordered cornbread for the table, and they kept coming out with one piece of corn bread. After 10 more minutes with still no water and no food, we left. This place is a joke! read more

A pretty solid four star review for Dinosaur. Went last night just b/c I happened to be in the neighborhood. We were seated in minutes, and the service was fine (contrary to what I had been reading). No long wait to order, no long wait for food and it didn't seem like anyone else was having that problem either. Brisket was solid, as were ribs and pulled pork. The poutine fries looked and sounded great but came out luke-warm and were nothing special. Dessert was just OK - had the peanut butter pie and the cheesecake. On the definite plus side, portions of everything were big for the price, so we had plenty to bring home for late-night snacks and leftovers today. I'll go back if I'm in the neighborhood, though not worth the trip out to Gowanus otherwise. read more

Obviously the only thing keeping this place going if the food! Service was awful and the hostess staff was extremely rude! We were a larger party and had a bit of a wait ( 45 to69 min which we had no problem with) so we went to the bar for some drinks and it was happy hour so we decided to order some apps while we waited. When our table was ready I went to the hostess stand and was told we could be seated until all of my party was there ( they were about 6 feet away) then we had a few bits of nachos left and we were rudely asked if we were going to order food at our table because if not we couldn't sit! The First time i bit into DBBQ's Ribs.....i understood life. everything made sense. loool..I am convinced that the ribs are actually Unicorn ribs because they are OUT.OF.THIS.WORLD!....ok yeah...the wait sucks..but that's like any good places in the city. but man...what an experience..i honestly don't remember the taste of the brisket etc..the RIBS just did it for me. The only thing where they lose the Star is the BEANS...the Beans are not on the level of everything else! they tasted like canned beans honestly...i was a lil' surprised..but anyways everything else was perfect. I've been meaning to write this review for a while. Our last server, Jason, was amazing. I regret not seeking out a member of management to sing his praise. Order the fried green tomatoes. They are heaven. I frequent this place. A lot. Sometimes the meat can be a little hit or miss, but the appetizers don't get much better. The peel and eat shrimp is another must. The pulled pork sandwiches are all pretty tasty. Sides: get the mac and cheese and the fried rice. The mashed potatoes and gravy taste a little bit like KFC. Cool atmosphere. One of the best bbq restaurant's, I love in this city. Wings awesome. Burgers are juicy and nachos are out of this world. Now there was a waitress waiting other tables around and her attitude was the worst. I don't like feeling uncomfortable when I come out to enjoy myself with my family. She started to stare at me for a good 15 min. With dirty looks and smirking her mouth to her coworkers it was easy to see that that her unprofessionally persona was very rude and disrespectful towards me. I rather eat in Harlem from now on. Great space, although acoustics is a problem just like every other NY joint. BBQ is fine, and good selection of drafts too. Problem is way too many people, even if you go mid-afternoon. Who wants to wait hours on a single line for a plate of food? The line at this place is reminiscent of old Great Depression photographs. And that's why I don't go there anymore, or am unable to give it more stars. Sorry, Hometown BBQ is way better. Only reason we waited was because after 1/2 hour you think, how long more it could be? AMAZING!! Okay not only is the mac and cheese the best mac and cheese you will EVER try, but the service is phenomenal. We had a waiter with facial hair, dark hair, and a Rolling Stones shirt and he is the BEST waiter anyone will ever have!! He is seriously so nice, supportive, helpful and kind!! He saved us from some crazy lady who was basically throwing out our food without our permission!! Instead of a Rolling Stones symbol on his shirt, he should have the Superman symbol on his shirt because he saved our food and experience!! GO HERE!!!!!! read more

Came here with friends last night. It was still busy at 7 pm on a Sunday evening but we had a reservation and were seated quickly. All of the food was excellent! I had the pick two combo platter with brisket and pulled pork. I tried the wings and nachos my friend ordered and those were delicious too. I wanted to try the moonshine lemonade but they had just ran out so I tried the donkey punch (tropical punch with rum) instead and it was really good. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Barbecue sauce is not offered or included in delivery orders. If you don't request the sauce, you don't get it. A very bad policy. At least state that sauce is not included. A $45 ORDER OF RIBS with no sauce. I called the restaurant and was able to pick up sauce. We live over a mile away and dinner was cold by the time we ate. Just a bad policy and frankly cheap. I hope the restaurant changes their policy. The food is fine but it would be like ordering a hamburger and not getting ketchup. read more

How can you NOT love BBQ? I swear this place is pretty awesome. The appetizers were kinda small but then you get your entree meal and its a perfect size. If you come hungry I promise you will leave satisfied. My friends and I all got different things and pretty much just shared everything off each others plates thats how good the food all looked. We came here the other night for my son's bday. We come to dino whenever we can! We love the food and atmosphere. I had called and asked if they sing for birthdays and the girl who answered didn't know so she put a manager on. He said no we don't do that and rudely hung up the phone. No good bye or politely say sorry we don't do that. Despite that encounter on the phone, we had a good time. Yeah if you come here definitely order the ribs! They were very good and covered in sauce. It comes with two sides and I ended up getting fries and mac n cheese. The meat literally falls right off the bone its so good. The mac n cheese was ok wasn't crazy about it but it did the job. The fries are fries they are good anywhere you go. I've been going to dinosaur since the Uptown location opened, when they opened in Brooklyn it was exciting! Though it seems as if each location shares some menu items, but not all, I still love it! The food is consistent with flavor. I love the Wango Tango wings and their twist on the cheesesteak. The design of the restaurant is fun and the service is good. Have a beer while there, they have a nice selection, and the rum punch is super refreshing. read more

Great Ribs and sides. Looove the sides. Especially their beans! I think it's made with pulled pork; super yums. My only complaint is that their ribs are not very consistent. Sometimes its fall off the bone tender, and sometimes its tough as hell! It gets pretty busy so try to call ahead. If you're going as a party of 2, the Full Rack with 3 sides is a great deal. If you're not a pig like me, there should be even some left over for lunch. read more
