I really enjoyed coming to Dinosaur BBQ. The wait was very long (about an hour) but I feel this is to be expected since I came on a Saturday night. So just keep that in mind when you wanna visit during high traffic hours. Parking was a little tricky too. We ordered the combo plate with brisket and pulled pork and they both were 10/10. First time visiting Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and I had high expectations. Everyone told me this is an iconic spot in Syracuse, and I was not disappointed. I was upstairs with a private event. The space is massive, could likely hold 300 people comfortably. There's even a stage space, great for karaoke or a work event. We were served buffet style and everything was INCREDIBLE. The tres Nino platter acts a sampling of Pulled Pork, Brisket, and Ribs. With it I got both Mac Salad and Mac N Cheese as well as a piece of corn bread. The Pulled pork was the smallest portion of the three but still worth all 3 bites. The slices of brisket were filling. The mac n cheese has always been my favorite side from them with its size and addition of BBQ seasonings its unique and never disappoints. Great Ribs and Brisket always Dinosaur BBQ is an old favorite of mine from the first time I tried them in Harlem, NY. The ribs and brisket, are always awesome at Dinosaur, this time was no different. Tender crusty pork ribs were meaty. Brisket was fall apart tender. Great corny flavor in the cornbread too. I generally never skip dessert because the desserts are great too. We came here 19 years ago and were excited to go again tonight now with our kids. We ordered a to go order. There is street parking and we found a spot not to far from the place. We showed our family the place and the hostess was so nice. Then we went to pick up our to go order. This was not the best process though. We wanted to buy some sauces and rubs. Izzy seemed annoyed to help us. I asked to know options since there is not a display of options by register. She begrudgingly showed us and we bought several. She gave us our order but forgot to give us the drinks. Luckily I asked and she did give them to us. So that process of pick up was not a nice process. When we got back to our place we tried our order. It was amazing. I got the pulled pork platter with coleslaw and Mac n cheese. My kid gave me his baked beans. It also came with cornbread. I had the chance to visit this spot while in Syracuse for a graduation. When we arrived, the wait time for a party of four was quoted at 35-40 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 25, despite the long-looking line moving fairly quickly. The ribs were meaty and fell off the bone, though the tangy BBQ sauce wasn't quite to my taste--I usually prefer a sweeter flavor like Sweet Baby Ray's. The coleslaw was vinegar-based, and I tend to like it sweeter, so that wasn't my favorite either. The fries were more on the softer side than crispy--perfect if you're a fan of that style--and I enjoyed them. I also tried a piece of brisket, but it was a bit salty for me--though I'm not usually a brisket fan, so others may love it. I went to school up in Oswego so trips to Syracuse and dinosaur barbecue or the Rochester location was always a special treat. I've had weddings catered with dinosaur barbecue for God sake. It's a different place of place but it has a very casual like kind of biker bar look to it. New TVs wood stuff like that service was always good. The food was always great with good portions. The brisket and pulled pork are average, not something I can't do in my backyard smoker, vs some of the southern places in Texas that are in a different league. But this is Syracuse and about as good as anything in the northeast. Service was good. Not very attentive as I needed a refill and never got one. The place is loud and good for groups. My two biggest pet peeves here are the fact that they serve Pepsi products (not a deal breaker and I know Coke changed their business model to not care about the smaller chain restaurants) and my biggest issue here is parking. Okay so the only reason I hate coming here is because the food is so good that you literally can't stop eating it even after you're full. We stopped here on our way back through from somewhere else and I've been here before so I knew better but we weren't really that hungry, figured we'd just get like a sample appetizer plate or something and upon looking at the menu we found a sample platter deal however it wasn't really appetizers, came with some ribs and some chicken and some pulled pork and some brisket. Said it was designed to feed two to three people it also came with two side dishes. I'm sorry but each side dish could have fed a person on their own and that would leave two other people alone with that half of a cookie sheet full of food that they would struggle to finish anyway. Everything definitely tasted as I remembered, absolutely wonderful. The beauty part about this as well is on each table all of the various dinosaur saws are there and a couple of them I've always wanted to try however buying a whole bottle of the grocery store is risky because if you don't like it then you're stuck with a whole bottle of nasty sauce in your refrigerator. Stopping. This time gave me the opportunity to try those and I'm going to be purchasing some now that I know that they're good. The waitress was wonderful, she could have stopped back and checked on us after she gave us the food however in her defense it wasn't like she was standing around. This place is usually rather busy and even though we got seated immediately when we walked in, there were a lot of tables. I know in the past IV near and it isn't for lunch, it's been for dinner and I've waited over an hour before to grab a table. Always well worth it as like I said earlier, half of the food is gone and your stomach is telling you hey you're full, and you finished the plate anyway to the point that you're almost uncomfortable because it tastes so good. We did end up finishing the cookie sheet full of meat (which is what I'll call it because I can't remember exactly what it was on the menu) and after busting or chops about only eating the good stuff, the way just brought us a couple of to Gold containers for the side dishes. They were equally as tasty but with only two of us in front of this mountain of food and about a 90-minute drive to get home, I figured the side dishes would travel better. Was looking for a place with good food to watch the Dodgers vs. Mets game We were lucky and snagged a couple seats at the bar before the place filled up. There were a couple bartenders behind the bar, but CJ stood out. He was so attentive and on it. They didn't have the game on originally and we asked Matt (the other bartender) if he could change one of the tvs to ESPN for us ... he kinda ignored us. But CJ in the other hand was on it. He got our drink and food orders perfectly and made sure we were ready for another round before we were through. I ordered the "tres niños" which is a massive amount of food for the price. All three of the meats were delicious and the mango habanero bbq sauce at the table is amazing. The Mac and cheese was also a huge highlight for a side dish. The sweet tea is also delicious. It's exactly what a sweet tea should taste like. The interior is very warm and cozy feeling.
