Good restaurant off of I-85, breakfast was decent size and good quality. Fast and easy service, local vibe as well. Breakfast biscuits are delicious!

Simple diner menu. Translation: something for everyone! Our family of 5 felt welcome when we arrived and comfortable full when we left. A true oasis on this otherwise forested, rural stretch of I85... very clean and unusually spacious. Report from our 8yr old: great fluffy giant waffle!

The first thing you see when you arrive is the bustling English style pub area that features a large assortment of craft brews and a fully stocked bar. The team at Brickhouse will make you feel welcome shortly after you arrive. There is seating in the pub area, but for a more intimate dining experience, I recommend seating in the cozy dining area just a step down from the pub. Personalized service homemade soups, delicious apps and entrees featuring fresh vegetables, are some of the things you can count on here. I highly recommend Brickhouse. You will not be disappointed!

I got the rockfish on special and it was perfect, what a shocker. The fish was cooked to perfection and was flavortown if I do say so myself. My husband got the steak frites and he says it was awesome too. I know his fries were since I snagged a few. For dessert he got a chocolate mug, kinda like mousse. I got the passionfruit tart with blackberry sauce and holy crap I could eat 10. It was tart and sweet but not overly sweet and tasted very fresh. The staff is always amazing. This place really feels like home. It's cozy and comforting. A great date night spot! I love you brickhouse

I had the salmon with brussels sprouts, and those brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly. I do wish I had arrived a little later, because I probably would have had a better experience. When I arrived, there was no one to greet me, and I felt like an intruder on an empty restaurant when I was first seated. If a restaurant opens at five, I would expect somebody to be available at five to make me feel welcome. I would definitely dine in there again though.

When we went, only the bar area was open, but there were tables in that section and we were able to sit comfortably as a family of four. Our waitress was really sweet and personable, which always makes a difference--especially when you're traveling with kids. The food was delicious. I ordered the smash burger, my husband had the salmon, and both were excellent. The kids ordered from the kids' menu--chicken tenders and a burger--and everything came with fries. We also ordered the sweet potato fries and those were a standout--definitely recommend them. Overall, it was a great stop during our trip with good food, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere. We really enjoyed our experience at Shirley's.

The menu also has so many food options, making it easy to find something for everyone. The food overall was great and very enjoyable. However, I would not recommend the brownie and chocolate sundae dessert. The brownie and cookie were cold and hard, which made the dessert disappointing. On the positive side, the carrot cake was huge and definitely worth sharing -- easily enough for 3-4 people. The service was excellent as well. Our waiter was very attentive throughout the meal and made sure everything was taken care of. Overall, Second Street American delivers great food variety, strong service, and a family-friendly atmosphere, with just a few misses on dessert.

The bartender greeted me and asked if I wanted the regular menu or was the lunch menu sufficient. I perused the lunch menu, which had several different options. Surprisingly, everything on that menu was half price! What a deal! I ordered the most expensive item, the catfish sandwich, which was only $10. Even though they were very busy, I got my sandwich within ten minutes. They call it a sandwich but there ain't no way I could eat it like a sandwich, even with my big mouth. The catfish came with onion, lettuce, tomato, and some kind of sauce on a toasted sub roll. It came with a knife. I cut off the first bite. It was .......... GREAT! Wow! I have always gotten BBQ or fish tacos before. Fantastic blending of flavors. It came with a choice of a side and I chose fries. The fries were barely alive. Good flavor but partially limp. That was the only negative. I wish I lived closer to Farmville. I would make them regular visits during the week. They keep teasing us about expanding to Madison Heights but no action yet.
