Tried for the first time today. Don't let the entitled weirdo reviews deter you, this place is pretty good. I got the smash burger as my first item, which was really nice, cooked perfectly, super juicy (the bacon should be chopped on it though, the strips don't really work), fries were great. Nachos with the beef chili were really tasty too, I like spice and the chili hit the spot on those. Might want to stay away from the steak tips, they weren't trimmed properly, but everything else was much better than comparable offerings in the area. Staff were very nice and prompt, and the vibe in there is just great. read more

I have been coming to Dire Wolf since before when it was Opus. I cannot say enough about the great atmosphere, but even more so about the food, drinks, and most of all the staff. I have held two private events in Hallowed Ground and I can say there is no better place. The event pricing was more than reasonable and staff went above and beyond to accommodate me and ensure the event went perfectly. Fridays are peak hours for any restaurant but Dire Wolf let me schedule my event on a Friday from 6-9 with no extra charge (other places were charging extra just because it was a Friday). Staff went out of their to make specialty drinks for my event, and provided quality food and a great welcoming atmosphere. I highly encourage booking your next event at Hallowed Ground, you won't get better pricing or service, not to mention the best drinks around. Really 1.5 stars. I adhere to a strict policy of not flaming a business without giving them an opportunity to fix the issue(s) on site. Thus, this review is the result not only of the negative issues but the lack of action after mentioning them. This is the second time we have tried this space, it will be our last. We are Salem locals, empty nesters, who go out to dinner 2-3 times per week. We are Serenity loyalty members. We came this time because it was my husband's birthday meal/dessert. He got the chicken Parmesan. Half of the chicken was so rubbery he checked to ensure it was cooked. He is always a clean your plate kind of guy, but would not finish it. He mentioned it to the server who gave a shrug and a sorry. I got the veggie burger. It was so pasty and tasteless. As dessert was included in his birthday reward, he ordered the special, orange Carmel cheesecake. It came covered in very salty nuts. No mention on the menu that it came with nuts. A huge no no. While we are not allergic, we have family members who are. It is good food safety to mention ingredients, especially when no one would think an orange cheese cake would come with nuts. The nuts were so salty, again, husband could not/would not finish it. We pointed it out to the server who again, just shrugged. Come on Serenity Group Do Better! read more

Had a great experience here! Our server Nate was fantastic and the food and drinks were delicious. We got the nachos to start and it was a large portion with plenty of toppings to go around. I got the full moon veggie burger and my boyfriend got the brisket sandwich which were both delicious and came with some tasty fries. I will definitely be back! read more

The bartenders here are super dismissive and rude. Eating here tonight and the one bartender (80's dress with Jean jacket) told us she just learned what a green tea shot was yesterday and so we were explaining what was in it and she rudely asked "do you want to come back here and make it or let me do my job" after rudely pouring out shots we asked the other bartender for the beer that the other bartender forgot she rolled her eyes and wearily gave me the beer my friend had ordered. I spent the majority of my time here trying to lock eye contact with a bartender that clearly didn't care about the service I received. Drinks sat empty for 15 minutes at a time. As someone who has been in the service industry for over a decade. Just tried to split the bill and the bartender threw a fit. Skip this place on your visit. read more

Formerly Opus, which I thought was really good, now dire wolf and it's just meh. Food was okay at best. Brisket was kind of dry and hush puppies had an odd aftertaste. Our waiter..... hmmmm... he was nice but was spending too much time being jokey with us and other customers to really provide good service. My teenage daughter, mom, and I enjoyed our brunch today at Dire Wolf. We ordered baked French toast, lobster eggs Benedict, poutine, and an omelet. All of the food was delicious as was my Bloody Mary. The hostess, server, and food runners were all friendly and courteous. Went on a Saturday afternoon. Food was absolutely not worth the money. We got the chicken parmesan, Washington St Tacos (with brisket), and (1) drink. Huge portions for the chicken parm but did not bring the leftovers home. The parm was flavorless, pasta was just bad, and the brisket in the tacos was dry (Fries were OK). Maybe the sushi is better? Apparently it used to be an Asian fusion, so maybe go for the fried rice or sushi if you go. Service/ambiance was great, but to pay $80 (including tip) for (2) meals and (1) drink I'd say steer clear. read more

I should have listened to the other reviews that said this place has gone downhill since re-opening as Dire Wolf. The food was decent, but it's hard to enjoy your food when the service is SO AWFUL. We sat at the bar and were ignored for at least ten minutes. No one even asked to take my wife's drink order. A different person took our food order. Wife's food didn't come with the rest of the orders -- she inquired. Ended up coming at least ten minutes after everyone else's. No apology, no offer to comp. Server messed up bill and took three people to sort it out. I stayed behind to settle the bill so the rest of the party could make a movie. No one behind the bar seemed to know what they were doing. Men's bathroom had no soap, which is disgusting considering employees wash their hands there. Mediocre at best and won't be back. read more

Went in there with a friend to get a few drinks. I don't mind a wait as I know everyone is busy but we were sitting at the bar for about 25 minutes before a bartender even looked our way. I planned on getting a cocktail but decided for a bottled beer because it was just quicker, wanted to get another beer but it was another 20-25 minutes before we could get any help. Ended up leaving after spending about 1.5 hours there and one beer. A lot of potential but the staff doesn't seem like they can handle busy nights. read more

My husband and I stopped in for dinner Monday night. It was steady busy but not crazy.... We grabbed bar seats at the far right end as you walk in thinking it would be a good spot... we were wrong. There were two bartenders ...we were greeted promptly with menus and ordered drinks but as far as service goes that's where it went south..... any time we needed anything we had to flag them down...for some reason they just never looked over at us and never proactively checked on us. When we flagged her down to order food we specified we wanted salads first and then the rest of our order... she agreed. Well we ended up getting it all at once which I realize is not the end of the world but when I mentioned we asked for salads first and the rest later she shrugged her shoulders and walked away ... a simple apology would have sufficed. We loved the food ... in fact Caesar salad was amazing ....and the atmosphere is nice and menu has a decent variety of options. We will go back but I just hope the service is better. read more

my sisters and I went in today for dinner and decided just to order a few appetizers to share so we ordered nacho's, Killa crispy chicken bites and empanada's, when everything came out the nachos were a very dark brown from being left in the oven too long, the chicken was shriveled and inedible from being over cooked and the empanada's were completely black around the edges and also inedible. Never once did our server come back to check on us to see how anything was, we finally had to have someone get her and they at least removed the empanada's from the check but no apology nothing. I definitely DO NOT recommend dining here, when we left one of my sisters had to run around the corner to throw up and the rest of us are sick to our stomachs wishing we could throw up to maybe feel better after such an awful excuse for food.. read more

Mediocre, would not go back. Appetizers like the poutine, fried cheese curds were pretty good but their food otherwise is pretty meh. Service was okay, waitress wasn't super friendly and only checked in when necessary. Don't order the sushi, it's not made well, some skin was even left on the salmon in one of our rolls. It's loud (not in the good way) and pretty much all open on the interior, walking in everyone just kind of looks at you.. it's odd. Not very inviting and the interior design style does not feel like a tavern at all, the whole place is just painted with some cheap, mismatched stencil. Overall wish Opus never left :( read more

Such a step down from Opus... I understand they're still new but the restaurant group that owns Dire Wolf has so many great restaurants the meal I had at Dire Wolf on Friday was unacceptable. We could barely finish the cocktails just because of how strange/bad they tasted which was so disappointing because Opus used to have the BEST cocktails in Salem. Spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer was okay, tasted mostly just like cream cheese. My entree was the veggie burger which was barley grilled and had the consistency of baby food. My husband and I can walk here in about 5 minutes from our place and have been coming here/Opus for well over a year. Have always loved the food and drinks and given them the benefit of the doubt whenever service has been subpar, especially since the rebrand. Unfortunately, our last two visits have been so disappointing that we're not sure if we'll be back. We sat out on the patio a couple weeks ago and were one of two tables out there, the other being a family visiting Salem for the first time. The service was so terrible that they ended up leaving cash on the table for the drinks they'd gotten after waiting over 30 minutes without any food or visit from the waitress. As locals, we found ourselves apologizing for their experience and gave them some other recommendations for lunch. When their food finally came out after almost 40 minutes and we explained to the runner what had happened, he was visibly frustrated (seemingly at us?) and rushed off. We waited another 20 minutes after that to pay our bill for the drinks we'd ordered an hour ago. We gave our waitress, who honestly just seemed bothered that she had to come outside again, our check-in code on the rewards app, which she of course never entered. Yesterday, we decided to stop in at the bar for brunch. There were 3 other people in a group sitting at the bar with one other table seated in the restaurant. The bartender didn't acknowledge us and was instead focused on making drinks, which we assumed were for the other party at the bar. Unfortunately, they weren't, they were for a couple other employees/managers(?) sitting in the back corner. Completely understand if this was a part of someone's training, but it should go without saying that customers walking in the door should take priority. After going another few minutes without acknowledgment or water, we got up and left. Not sure what's going on with this place, but it's incredibly disappointing to see. We have come a few times because we loved Opus and enjoy 15 Walnut. The ambiance is fantastic, they nailed it! The last time we were there our server Rosie was wonderful, super attentive and knew the menu well. The food is just ok; sushi is always good but they changed the Full Moon burger recipe, its not as good now. Wings were just ok. These people would not know how to make a medium cheeseburger if their life depended on it. I have been there twice since they first opened. I ordered a medium cheeseburger and it came back like a hockey puck. The second time I ordered a medium rare cheeseburger that came back a hockey puck. I will not be back. We paid extra for truffle fries which were a huge disappointment. Soggy, mushy, and tasteless! How can truffle fries be tasteless? My cocktail was not good either. First time here. Took my wife and grandson. Very disappointed. Got the Brisket Cheese Steak. Horrible. Burnt and tough to chew. I don't know how they call this a cheese steak, very misleading. I am not a picky eater but this was just bad. The fries were good and my wife got a ceaser salad and liked it. My grandson got the chicken bites with fries and liked them. I ate less than half my meal and just couldn't eat more. Couldn't even get myself to take it home because it was just lousy tasting. The waitress was pleasant but very slow and just not very good at her job. She asked me at the end how everything was and I told her just how bad my food was. She seemed genuinely concerned and I got the impression she was going to tell her manager. She came back and charged me full price and apologized. My impression was that she told the manager and they said " Too Bad". I was not looking for any discount and never asked for one, but a decent place would have offered something as it was clear I didn't eat half my meal. Amazing service as always from Serenitee group. The food was not what I've come to expect from these folks. Brussel sprouts were ok, too heavily sauced so the crispness from frying them was not there. Sushi was good but not great. Had to send our bourbon drinks back. Aperol spritz was good though. Butchers pie could be good with a little more seasoning. Ambience was decent, but I don't know if it feels like a tavern. The name is cool but since we already have one other wolf named restaurant in town I'm wondering if something different would resonate better. read more

Unfortunately, another victim of the Serenitee groups management flaws. Taking the "OCTOBER" effect into consideration, there's still no excuse for a restaurant to operate and perform like their's. It's Opus 2.0 with different decor and a higher acceptance for mediocrity. Food was...meh. Left a lot to be desired, especially compared to other Serenitee restaurants. A grossly understaffed team led to many disappointments. It's clear there is a disconnect between the management and the team, especially when it comes to supporting the staff. Managers were busier seating tables instead of supporting the staff, getting dirty tables bussed or doing something about all the patrons with empty glasses. A couple walked in and there was over a 20 minute period between when they sat down and when they received their drinks. Just very disappointing. Some of the other Serenitee restaurants are SO GOOD, but this is definitely one to stay away from. read more

they don't really have cheese curd, they served chopped up mozzarella sticks and call it cheese curds.. so they charge you 3x as much to call it something else. also hushpuppies were way overcooked, almost inedible could have broke a tooth on them....but didn't want to make that complaint after inquiring about the cheese curds. when asked about the cheese curds waitress laughed off my disappointment. waitress didn't serve us water until 20 or so minutes later and everything we asked about came only after 20 minutes and by another server.. when server hovered over my table mate to work out the check while she was just served ice cream which was quickly melting, my table mate asked if she could do this after she had her dessert. Server quickly went on the offensive by going directly to their manager to say my table mate yelled at her.... so uncool and just covering her horrible service.... the ambiance was nonexistent out on the patio. A guy actually let his dog leave a big poop just meters away from our table and none of the staff said anything about the guy smoking in the restaurant area. so there was that. So many places to eat in salem, I'll pass on this one from here on out. thanks but no thanks read more
