Unfortunately, I could not get a hold of anyone else at the time to compare pricing so I had to have the work done since it was a Friday and it was the hottest day of the year. I had our 20-year-old air conditioner replaced by Direct AC in January. I did it in January in order to avoid the rush, since the hot months are the busiest time for AC installations. The installation went well. We're in Carlsbad, near the coast, so we didn't need to turn the AC on until yesterday, July 19'th. When we did, we found that the air was not coming out cold. I called Jason, the owner, around 3:00 in the afternoon and described the issue. He had Chris come out today to assess the problem. Chris found and repaired a leak that had allowed the refrigerant to drain out of the system, and then re-filled the system with refrigerant at no charge. The mark of a great company is how they respond when something goes amiss. I couldn't have asked for a quicker response, especially considering this is their busiest time of year. Chris told me they are scheduled two weeks out. So I really appreciate that Jason handled the matter expeditiously. He takes care of his customers. To paraphrase Nathan Hale, "I only regret that I have but five stars to give to Direct AC." Jason and his team of superheroes saved us from a 3 month ordeal caused by another HVAC company. My disabled wife has a variety of health concerns which make it so she needs to have a temperature controlled environment with clean, fresh air. Any contaminant in the air like fumes, gases, or dust cause her to have really awful symptoms with her health including bouts of tachycardia, drastically swinging blood pressure, rashes, coughs, runny nose, etc. We explained this to the previous company and were assured the system which was to be installed took this all into account. The previous company put in a full new system including ductwork. It immediately smelled awful long after the initial furnace oil burn off. Eventually they ended up replacing the furnace and ductwork a second time but a new issue (or one we could not recognize because the furnace smell was so bad) with smell/fumes popped up. Again, they tried to resolve it but eventually told us there was no problem and there was nothing they could do. Then, I made the best call I have made in the last several years when I found Direct AC on Yelp. Even though they were booked out for several weeks, once I explained the situation to Jason he had someone come out the same day. His technician Van showed up and listened to all of my longwinded concerns and investigated the installation. While he was looking at it he was on the phone with Jason discussing the project and reviewing pictures as he went through everything. He was here for about 90 minutes and took the time to go through every possibility he saw as a potential issue. I was frazzled and exhausted so I am sure I was a handful but he treated the conversation with professionalism, knowledge, and understanding. The next night Jason called me after normal business hours with a list of items that would need to get looked at. I implored him to do the repairs because I could not count on the previous contractor to get the job done right but he would not take the job because without having done the installation there was no way he could guarantee they could fix the issue and he didn't want to take my money without being sure they could fix the previous poor installation. I will admit I was frustrated at this point but I was also impressed that he would not take my money if he wasn't sure he could deliver. After a day or so of cursing God and all his creations I realized the only shot I had at getting my home back was to have a new system installed by someone who knew what they were doing. I called Jason back and he put together a strategy for our very particular situation including a properly sized system. He researched which machine oils which coat all new furnaces were the most hypo-allergenic. He even researched which sealants were least likely to cause issues with fumes and off gassing. Basically, every little thing was considered and applied to the job. The Direct AC team worked me into the schedule a few days later even though I know they were booked out for several weeks. They understood the urgency of the issue and wanted to make things right for us. They performed the installation with new ductwork over the course of two days. I can't say enough about the entire team. Jason was here, Van came back, and Chris filled out the rest of the crew. They worked fast, clean, and with our needs in mind 100% of the time. After having gone through so much of an ordeal with the last contractor I'm sure I had way more questions than a reasonable person may have but they never got irritated or snappy. Their confidence and competence was reassuring at a time I was about to lose whatever was left of my sanity. They fired up the new furnace to burn of the machine oil for a few minutes and aired out the house. After that they turned on the air conditioner and out poured a torrent of fresh, cold, clean air. My wife and I literally cried with relief. After running the new system for a few days we found that one of the rooms was not getting as much fresh air as the rest of the house. I want to be clear this has nothing to do with poor workmanship. Jason got Chris to come out again much faster than I expected and he made some adjustments with the same level of expertise I have come to expect. Jason called back to make sure there was an improvement. Though this whole process I have never felt anything but confidence in the entire team's abilities and after what we went through that kind of assurance was not just a want, it was a need. I really can't say enough good things about these guys. They saved our home and got my wife and I back to living our normal lives. It isn't hyperbole to say that they will always have a seat at our table if they find themselves without somewhere to go for Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner. We cannot thank them enough. It's the first hot, humid day in Carlsbad this year, but it's nice and cool inside, which reminds me... I need to write a review for Direct AC. Jason and his crew installed a new heating and AC system in my house last month. Jason came recommended by my friend Maureen T, and I was very happy with his service or the installed system. I did some price comparisons and his cost was a little lower than others too. I opted for a dual-zone system that has separate controls for the upstairs and downstairs. The system is integrated through networked Nest controllers; via an iPhone app I can change the thermostat settings, run the fan, etc. from anywhere. It's great for when I go somewhere and want to shut the system off entirely and when I want to check the indoor temp to make sure that my dog is comfortable (yes, priorities!). It's also great for those times when I don't want to get out of bed that badly until it's a nice 70F upstairs... The installation went very smoothly. Jason even found that the new compressor could be hidden on the side of my house, freeing up more space in the yard. He also coordinated the installation to occur at the same time I was having solar panels installed. That minimized the overall amount of time my home was under construction. I appreciated Jason's attention to detail. He put touch-up paint around one new thermostat to cover up holes left by the old one, and painted my ceiling attic hatch, which had accumulated smudges and fingerprints over the years. He also replaced all the vents in the house to new ones that allow for multidirectional airflow -- the familiar old vents just pointed airflow left or right. A few days after installation the blower fan was rattling. Jason came out right away to fix it. Over a year later, the AC was sending a funny dirty-sock smell throughout the house after not being used over the winter and spring. Jason came out the next day, cleaned out the condenser, and installed a UV disinfecting system (without charging for the part or the labor!) that keeps funny stuff from growing when I don't use AC. Jason and Mike installed a new custom HVAC system in my 1953 home. We have a flat roof with no attic space which meant all ducting and HVAC system had to be installed on the roof. Jason and Mike made sure to place everything as far back as possible so as not to be seen as much from the street. The install took 4 days and everything went smoothly. Jason and Mike were great to work with and did in excellent job. They removed the old wall heaters that were no longer necessary, and installed the Nest thermostat which is amazing! My air conditioner stopped working late on a Sunday evening. On Monday, I turned it on hoping it would work. Of course not, it's the hottest time of year. I called several places & no one could get to me until Tuesday or Wednesday. I found Direct AC about 4:30 pm. I was told what the problem probably was. They had no service call charge and told me that they would fix right on the spot if I approved the cost. They told me about 6 or 6:30 someone would be there.
