I had my water heater break. I had a local plumber come out and he gave me a very high quote and said he couldn't just swap out the one I had with a replacement but had to do a major change. I called Excalibur and they said this wasn't true. They could install a similar model of tankless water heater to the one I had. Their quote was almost $2000 less than the other plumber. I since had an HVAC company come out for something else and mentioned I had to change the heater recently. I told him what I paid and he said that was honestly a good price. Excalibur seemed honest and helpful and they were able to come out first thing the next morning and get my heater replaced. They did a good job and the new unit looks better installed than the original. They also gave me advice on how to maintain it and what maintenance I could do myself to descale it etc so it doesn't break again. Really, really fast response time!! Super professional from explanations to accurate diagnostics! Within 30 minutes, they diagnosed the issue and deemed it to be a full water heater replacement. Water leaking from the bottom of the tank and condensation from the exhaust pipe. Water heater stopped working and I sent out a Yelp request for repair estimate. I had included pictures of the error code displayed by the heater. Anthony immediately called me and told me what he thought was the most likely cause based on the error code, and talked me through "fixing" it on the spot- basically needed to clean the vent which was clogged with lint from the dryer. Heater turned on after and has been working fine since. We didn't have to pay for an expensive "diagnostic test" by a plumber which would have cost about $200 alone not including the actual repair. Cannot thank Anthony enough for quick call, very accurate and helpful instructions, and most importantly 1) being knowledgeable about the heater to predict what was the mostly likely cause and 2) having the honesty and integrity of solving the problem for us for free instead of coming out and charging us for a 'diagnostic test' and repair which he probably could have gotten away with (like the other plumber who was actually there who was telling us we need to pay him for the diagnostic test.) Super quick response and replaced water heater same day. Totally came through in an urgent situation when my water heater failed and partially flooded the garage floor. I sent a couple photos and they could accurately assess the situation and what was needed. Took time to explain things. I had a straightforward situation with the water heater on ground floor inside garage with easy access. The top floor sink and shower pressure did t return to normal after the water heater replacement - they came back out free of charge right away to take a look and diagnosed that the faucet fixture and spray head had clogged up - they were all old. Take a noon run, come home to shower, and realize then at 1pm that there is no hot water when I went to take a shower after my noon run. Start to panic a bit because we have kids laundry to do today plus two toddlers and a wife that all take showers after 7pm. I try to fix the pilot light myself but it's not holding. Crap. Have a work call to do and then at 2pm I call Excalibur after finding them here on Yelp. Paul picks up right away, asks a bunch of questions (like, he is showing genuine interest to help right from the jump), and asks me to text him pictures. I do and he calls me and says "I happen to be at the shop and I can fix this and get the parts here. I can be there in 30 minutes. What? 30 minutes? Not 3 hours, not 3 days -- THIRTY MINUTES. Honestly, I didn't really believe it. 30 minutes later, boom, Paul is here. 15 minutes later he is done with the work. It's now only 3pm! I test the hot water 30 min later as he suggests and all is working well. So let's summarize this: - Picks up the call, has a "eager to help" attitude - Comes to my home in blazing speed - Fixes it quickly and efficiently (- Notice problem at 1pm, call Paul at 2pm, it's literally fixed by 3pm) - Charges a reasonable price. Even thought out second water heater (which was next to the right of the one that failed) had a leak and showed me why he had that concern. Oh great, another vendor trying to tack on charges, right? Nope, he checked it, said his guess was wrong and it just needed some tightening, all is good, no charge for it. Literally as good as it gets, 5 stars bar none. Apparently there is more than owner of this business. Names won't be mentioned to protect privacy, but they know who they are. One was very responsive and quire friendly (hence the 2nd star). It was the "other" owner who f'd up and lost a potential customer. It's never a good day when you need a plumber, right? In my case, my hot water tank decided to crap out in the middle of the night and flood my garage. During a cold snap. What's worse, my water heater also supplies heat to my home (hydronic heating). I'd always intended to replace the tank with a tankless unit, & lucky for me, my neighbors recently had it done! So of course I asked who did their installation. When I called Excalibur, I mentioned my neighbor"s home & a possible quote to save them a trip out since it would be nearly identical. The "friendly" owner said it was most likely the other owner who did the installation because of his knowledge of tankless units combined with hydronic heating. He'd also mentioned they were busy and it might be a couple days before it could be installed. So he gave me the other guy's number. I immediately called and left a message. (Remember - cold snap + no heat + no hot water) Well, owner #2 didn't call me back that day. Or the next. Or the next. So knowing they were busy, I gave him 48 hours to return my call. Mind you, to have a tankless heater in these units is very rare. To my knowledge, only one other person has one in his unit & the company who installed it closed during Covid. So I really wanted someone I *knew* who was knowledgeable, rather than have multiple people come over to check it out. I wanted heat & I wanted it yesterday! When I called owner #1 & said I'd never heard back from his co-owner, he seemed shocked, told me to call again immediately, & that he'd text him as well. I actually never spoke with #2. He solely communicated via text. The price was massive. I asked about other options (smaller unit - he advised not to). The price to install a *tank* that was HALF the size of my previous one wasn't much less expensive. I remember I had a plumber fix the pump in my hydronic heater a couple years ago & actually had him take a look at my neighbor's unit to see if it was something he could do when the time came. He'd mentioned he was surprised to see what they'd done & it wasn't exactly up to code. I didn't ask how - I knew I couldn't afford it anyway at the time. Long story long - I found another company to install the *exact* same unit, right down to the mixer valve & expansion tank, for the same cost as Excalibur would've charged for a SMALL TANK!! So maybe this should be a 4 star review, because, had #2 got off his a$$ & returned a call, I wouldn't have had the time to look for someone else & saved a bunch of money! Oh, the "up to code" thing was a part where the condensate goes through to lower the PH before going down the drain. Also, Excalibur installed a $100 wired "remote" 1 foot from the unit. It does the *exact* same thing that the front of the unit does. It's great if it were in the house, but 1 foot away (in the garage) is $100 + labor down the drain. (Look at me & my puns!) The point is, I'm sure Excalibur does fine work. But why would you pay a pretty penny for it, with unnecessary add-ons, when you can get the exact same unit/work for much (MUCH) less? read more
