A customer for over a decade, I was not previously unhappy with Discount Tires, but the last couple of times I've been to the Boulder shop, they have provided subpar service and unpleasant sales tactics. I always liked the warranty coverage, but I ran into issues recently with tire damage that they refused to cover (even though I believe it should have been) and had to replace both tires completely at full price. They could not get me decent prices on all-season tires, but I suspect they were just trying to get me to pay more. Furthermore, there haven't been that many people in the store, but the last couple of times I have ended up waiting for well over an hour for simple services that the customer service rep estimated for me at 20 minutes. If it's going to take an hour, just tell me that up front, and I'll run a nearby errand on foot or something. When you tell me it will be 20 minutes, I end up sitting in your uncomfortable chairs listening to whatever terrible audio is then on. Not exactly pleasant--especially as 20 minutes turns into 30 (and 40 and 90...). And last time I was in, they failed to return my wheel lock, and denied having lost it when I asked. Very frustrating. Add to that their lobbying efforts (supporting Joe Arpaio and fighting against Prop 205), and I simply can't return to Discount Tire. read more

I am eternally grateful for Discount Tire. Over the weekend I had slid into a curb and spent my entire day today bouncing between auto repair shops that were giving me estimates of $1000+ to fix my wheel. When I got to Discount Tire, Josh immediately recognized my car and I from a few months prior when I had a different accident. He told me that he'd try to bend the wheel back, but that they could rotate the tires and put the bent wheel on the back so that it was safe and drivable. He did this in about 20 minutes at no cost. Considering I had just spent my entire day waiting for hours for $1000+ repair estimates, I can promise you that Discount Tire is the only place around here that will be honest and will help you as quickly and cheaply as possible. The guy was able to track down a set that fit my car, and had the tires on and I was out the door pretty quick. Be Very Careful to make sure everything is still in your car before leaving the lot. Had a Very expensive Automotive Technology book taken out of my passenger floor. 100% sure the book was there before a tech had the keys. Drove straight home into a locked garage and the next morning when I go to the car to start class. There is no book in the car and no one had access to the car except the technicians. It won't be returned as they have no cameras in the shop. I hope the tech that took it will use it to better his life to the point he stops stealing from people. I do not recommend this place at all. The staff was manipulative, unhelpful, and vague. My associate informed me I needed to get brand-new tires and failed to help me figure out which ones would be best/most cost-effective. He kept pushing me on a warranty and on getting more expensive tires. I ended up paying much more than I could afford and then he said I needed an additional tire realignment they couldn't do and that I should get it done somewhere else that week. When I took my car to a repair shop, they said the alignment problems were very very minor, so essentially I lost another $70. I have no idea why he did that. All in all, there are way more professional and transparent repair shops in Boulder. You'll definitely be able to find a better place. read more

In Boulder there are a handful of service desk fellas that are reasonable, not pushy, not manipulative - BUT for the most part they seem to be trained to go as fast as possible and sell you the most expensive tire rather than the best tire for you. I have been with Discount/America's Tire for many years in Redwood City, California, where a similar problem would occasionally rear its ugly head - service desk guys were too speedy and would not listen to my questions and concerns, tires would not have correct pressure, valve caps missing, not rotated properly. I stayed with them because they were good about discounting tires that did not meet the warranty - I left Boulder's Discount Tire because they would blame my driving, my car, dirt roads, you name it, rather than discount new tires based on the warranty. I used to go to America's Tire Co when I lived in CA because they had the best prices and the guys there weren't skeevy or belittling to me because I'm a woman. Discount Tires is the same company. I was tempted to buy my new tyres from one of the two local tire stores, but Discount Tire beat their best price. I ordered Nokian WR G2s (the Best all-weather option for Outbacks) and I am SO HAPPY with my new tires -- these puppies stop on a dime (during the rainiest month Boulder has seen in long while)! I ordered the Nokians (special order) late yesterday and they arrived today. The price of the Nokian tyres were less than the set of Michelins I was considering. Woohoo! I was very happy to swap my studded snow tires for these new tyres. I waited about an hour with no appointment and I can see why Discount Tire continues to win Best of Boulder! read more

Excellent service. I came in, purchased studded snow tires, had them installed, balanced, and paid, in 45 minutes. Charlie was super helpful, remembered me by name when I walked in after pricing out tires over the phone and personally took very good care of me. My family has been purchasing tires from discount tires for years and this location was the quickest and best customer services I've experienced of all TE locations I've visited. The seating area was also very clean and spacious. My only suggestion would be for them to offer coffee or tea for their customers while they wait. I've been going to Discount Tire for decades! Yes, on occasion, there have been some issues but they always stepped right up and fixed the problem with no questions asked. I have my snow tires mounted on rims and normally I change them out myself but my air compressor bit the dust so I took them down to Discount. Got there early so I was second in line. Ushered right in and they got them changed in about 20 minutes. I checked when I got home and the pressure was correct as well as the torque spec on the lugs. Really really love Discount Tire; both locations I've used in San Diego and Boulder have the most helpful staff who always leave you feeling reassured about your tires without ripping you off. Have gone to them multiple times to remove nails/screws - which they do completely free of charge - and I won't let my usual mechanic do anything to my tires because I trust DT and would rather they get my business for any tire purchase. really the worst service and crap products. bought new tires in late 2019 didn't drive throughout 2020 and four months of 2021. only have 19000 miles on the tires and according to them they are shot so won't rotate to put the worst tires in the rear. Also won't honor warranty because they claim I didn't rotate enough. since I do my oil change and rotate at the same time, 3000 miles, the demand that you rotate more often than that is absurd. they sell a bad product and wont stand behind it and now I have to pay a shop to rotate the tires to mitigate risk of bad tires on front. This is something I hear from lots of people. they just want you to but new tires after a few thousand miles and are rude if you won't. I will buy new tires, just not from them. read more

I went here because I was desperate. But when desperate, one doesn't always make good or the right decisions. I wish I wasn't so desperate this winter for snow tires. Drove my kid to a doctors appointment to North Boulder from So. Boulder and almost slipped off the road a few times. We fishtailed it all the way to the appointment. I promised myself that after the doctors we'd get new snow tires and make it home alive. I called around and chose these guys based on the fact that they had availability and tires that would fit my car. Not a good idea. This where clearly, I needed to fishtail home and wait for the right place. I asked about an appointment and they said there was no need. So we went and waited and waited and waited. The place was mobbed with other panicked people. I asked why people who came in after me were leaving with their cars, and they said "those people had appointments". But of course, they didn't tell me to make one when I asked. They also told me to exchange our tires out it would cost $10 for the whole thing as long as we purchased tires from the shop. It would have been $5 had it not been for our pressurized tires. Fast forward to spring. Time to get the tires changed out. I call and the guy tells me it's $10/per tire. I tell him that's not what I was told and of course he has no response. I also ask about appointments and he says just come in. I press him about appointments and finally he gives in however, they're all booked for today. Just walk in but we're all booked?? UGH!! $40 per tire is pretty common but to tell us false information upfront to get a sale is dirty and low. I will not be going back and giving my tire money elsewhere. For years I have seen Boulder locals pack this place and I wondered what was up with that. Today as a first time customer driven both by price and a need it done right now jones I found out. After speaking to a very well spoken and informative Levi on the phone we arrived 30 minutes later and were greeted as we exited the truck by Levi and Brandon, a new hire. Levi explained he was training Brandon and service was great and rolled fast from there on. He made our price and inclusions of road hazard on the tires happen within our budget and informed us of an additional rebate if we used their card to purchase. All went smoothly and the place is well kept and sparkly clean inside ( xcept for that soda I spilled on the floor), so sorry guys. Tires went on and we were out of there in 30 minutes. They stand by their warrenty. My wheels became unbalanced, and they stood by their warrenty and rebalanced them for free. Some mud had become packed in the wheel rims and was not visible from standing next to the car. I had missed some of that mud when I last cleaned my car so the off balanced weight was causing vibrations when I drove. When they removed the tires they found and cleaned out the mud, and they fine tuned the balance on the wheels. Quick and courtesy service also. read more

I have always received excellent service at this location. I was quite dismayed on my 6/4/20 visit when a customer was allowed into the store without a mask on (after I had checked in). I asked the manager about it and was told that "all the stores have different policies" and that he "could not enforce it". No accountability. No apology. No intention to change anything apparently. So BEWARE of being inside this business if you are in the high risk category. I am due to my age. I also live with someone my age who has severe asthma. I'm glad I do not need to go inside again till I need my tires swapped in the fall. Hopefully either the virus will not be as active a risk by then or they will have a better policy. I always receive exceptional service, no matter how busy they are (which they always are) they always seem to find a way to fit you in. I stopped in with a flat, they fixed both holes (nail and screw) and had me on my way within the hour at NO CHARGE because I have been as loyal to them as they have been to me over the years. I have one strange "complaint" (since this is Yelp lol), they play Christian music, which I do not necessarily have an issue with considering Im Christian, but I can imagine that it would upset some others whom may not share in the Lord Jesus's ever loving grace. I went to this location to inquire about a TPMS sensor that wasn't reading after getting new tires at a different Discount Tires location. A very helpful employee behind the counter (I think his name was Tanner?) spent about 30 minutes troubleshooting the sensor, eventually taking the tire off to discover the sensor itself had come loose. He was then able to reattach and get it back to functioning as designed. Will come back when I next need tires! read more

Discount tire was always dependable for me. They are way understaffed. I waited 25 minutes to check my car in for an appointment I already had. They put on 4 new tires. Now, one of the tires has a leak(lost 10 lbs pressure in a day). They said I could get an appointment in 8 days or walk in which the current wait time was 5 hours. Booo. read more

Let's face it, buying tires is a tremendous time waster and a big hassle. It ranks right up there with having to visit the DMV or a dental cleaning. That being said the one thing I really want when buying the darn things is timeliness. What I really like about these guys is the fact that they understand that and when they give the client an estimated wait time they are always right on the nose or even quicker! Pricing is always competitive if not lower and they don't try to BS the customer. The staff is both knowledgeable and courteous. My only complaint would be the goofy christian light rock they play in the waiting area but its OK. It gets drowned out by the club volume music emanating from the tech bay every time the open that door! Keep up the great work guys. read more

Date of issue 6/22/15 I do not recommend this company at the Boulder location. I have been going to Discount Tire for years and recently went in for a tire repair at the Boulder Store. This should have been a simple experience of replacing the ill fated tire, but instead it turned into an heinous afternoon at the hands of some less than professional teenage/young employees. My tires were rotated during this process. This is important to note. The one tire replaced. I had conversation with Joey about the options with the other tires. It wasn't in my budget at the time to replace the other 3. He went to lunch and while he was gone another employee tried to do a hard sell with the tires. It felt gross to be guilted by this employee. I was not impressed at his pushy sales manner. When Joey returned, I talked to him. First thanking him for being a human and not so sales driven. I let him know I felt like I had been slimed by this person while he was gone. Little did I know that things were going to get much worse in the coming hour. I ended up being there for over 3.5 hours total. I had some stuff in the back of my car, Subaru Forester. A few boxes, gloves for hospice work and some grocery bags etc... Usual items, when I got my car back they had thrown these items throughout the car. I looked at my drivers seat and there was grease all over it. (Yes I took pictures) There was a puddle of greenish grease on the center console about the size of a 50 cent piece. They had intentionally smeared grease in my car. I ended up driving home on a plastic bag and spending about 4 hours cleaning the grease out of my car. I was confused as to where the grease had come from and so was Joey. Then he casually says to me, you should get your CV boot looked at. A red flag went up. They had also torn the lug nuts off of the wheels on the two front tires, so I had to get those repaired. When I took the car in two days later to brakes plus, the guy said that this was definitely a fresh leak at the CV boot and the grease matches the grease that was in the car. I then took the car to my mechanic and yes there was a fresh leak at the CV boot and the clear issue was that there was not grease on any other of the tires. I had my tires rotated. This was not possible unless the leak happened to start right when the tires were being changed. The damage in the car was extensive enough that they replaced the tires on my car, but have not repaired the CV boot. A claim was opened up, but not once did I get interviewed on what happened that day. They closed the claim without ever talking to me. The time that I had to spend cleaning my car and then taking it to two different mechanics was never even considered. Until I had my mechanic look at it, I honestly did not feel safe driving my car because I didn't know what they had done to it. I have been recommending discount tire for years to people. What makes me so sad about this experience is the lack of trust and accountability by this company. I held off on writing anything about this issue because I wanted to believe that they would resolve this and make it right. They didn't. I was initially a bit skeptical because of the name - kind of sounded like 'cheap crap tire' - but they definitely won me over. The staff genuinely know their stuff about tires and don't seem, for the most part, to over sell anything. I got great advice on some snow tires which have been absolutely fantastic. The only issues I ever had was when I punctured one of my regular tires and the guy told me that I should buy a whole new set because the old ones were too worn down. The problem was that they only had about 5,000 miles on them and were actually fine. A manager sorted everything out and they were quite nice and accommodating. The other issue I've had is that even though I've made appointments if people come in before you they are served first. So it's a bit pointless. I realized this only after letting a line of people walk in before me when the shop opened in the morning (since I had an appointment) only to find out that they all, none of whom had appointments, were serviced before me. Which meant I waited a pretty long time. But over all they are good people who know what they are doing and they do a good job. read more

Great customer service, best prices, and the free tire pressure checks, flat repairs, and even rotation and balancing that they sometimes offer with the purchase of a full set of tires keeps me going back. These guys are hard selling salesman that will tell you anything to make a sale. I purchased tires for my Subaru not long ago. They hard sell you the continental tire that is shite. When I saw it, I could tell it was a shitty tire and the way they were pushing me to buy it so hard, made me suspicious. I told the salesman it looked like a shitty tire, and he said not to worry, it has a 50,000 mile warranty, so if it doesn't last, they will replace them. At 17,000 miles they were toast, with almost no tread left. I went in and the guy told me they couldn't replace them because of "unusual tire wear". Im spending my money elsewhere. read more
