Excellent food and service. Top notch and the decor and architecture can be stared at for hours

If someone suggests that you should go you should listen to them. Everything here was delicious from the drinks to the food and the staff was incredibly hospitable. They have high chairs available if needed, the kids plate is perfect and so good but rather large portions. If you have smaller eaters they could easily share one plate. For the adults the appetizers and shared plates left us in awe, we will forever be happily haunted by the 24 hour daal we had and the beetroot chaat. Heads up, the bathrooms are in the lower level. To find them go behind the bar, down the stairs, and then make a u-turn to the far back corner to find them. read more

Very adorable restaurant. The staff was nice and attentive... Well until our waiter left and didn't mention he his shift was over. The new waitress was too familiar and sent me home with someone else's leftovers. I know because it had meat in it and I don't eat beef, chicken, pork, etc... So glad I looked. Anywho, the small plates are really good. The make you purchase your protein, rice and vegetables all separate. Usually curry dishes include the protein and the rice but we had to purchase rice to put with the curry separately. All in all, we enjoyed everything we ordered and though they are packed to the point of having a basement waiting area, I'd say it's worth it - especially the House Black Daal! read more

Amazing beginning to our trip! We went to Dishoom for lunch yesterday--straight from Heathrow and right before catching a train to Newcastle. We could not recommend this place more highly. First of all, the staff is SO NICE--like unreal nice. We had written them an e-mail saying that we would have all our massive suitcases with us, and when we arrived, the sweetest and most pleasant hostess in the world greeted us, and then the staff actually helped us bring our bags up a small set of stairs (with an earnest generosity that does not go unnoticed by we jaded Americans, Long live the King!). Next, the space is STUNNING. The space was previously some kind of railway depot and its conversion to a restaurant was thoughtful and impressive. We loved the lighting, the openness, and the small attention to details (even in the bathroom!). A+! We started with the house chai (very good and soothing) and watermelon sharbat (too much ice; the watermelon tasted off) for our daughter. The lamb samosas we got as an app were perfection: crispy on the outside with a slightly spicy and richly-spiced filling on the inside. It was one of the best ones that we've ever had. For mains, we all shared the kala chana salad, house black daal, garlic naan, a bowl of greens, and the phaldari kofta. The salad was tangy and fresh, and we loved the specialness of the black chickpeas, but we just wished that there was a bit more kale/veggies to balance it out. The daal was incredible! Well worth the hype and with such a depth of flavor--perfect for mopping up with your naan. Speaking of which, we weren't super impressed with the garlic one since it was a tad dry and thin--the one served with the kofta was much better. Greens were basic, but that's what we were expecting/wanting, but the phaldari kofta was out of this world. Our taste buds were doing a Bollywood dance number! Obviously we over ordered, but they were awesome about getting us leftover containers and a to-go bag. For dessert, we got the pistachio kulfi and their alphonso mango seasonal special. We're sad to report, that while the kulfi was creamy and refreshing after a heavy meal, it tasted very little of pistachio. The latter dish was a grand success only because the mango was wonderfully ripe and tasted like tropical heaven. Vanilla ice cream was an ideal pairing, but the ice cream was so hard that you ended up smashing the mango when you tried spooning them together. A softened version would have yielded a better dish. Our server was a very nice guy, and while he wasn't around a lot, he made up for it by being awesome when he did pop up. All the runners were very nice. As we already said, the overall service here is excellent. No attitudes to be found anywhere, which is quite rare nowadays. 4.5 stars, rounding down, but we truly loved this place and will gladly recommend it to anyone traveling to London. read more

Before I even arrived in London, everyone was telling me about Dishoom. The place is legendary and impossible to get into. There's several locations around the city and every location has a line that's out the door. They do take reservations for tables under 6 people but only before 5PM. The location at King's Cross is huge. It was an industrial building at some point and it shows. We had reservations at 4:15 but arrived a bit early. We were given a pager and asked up wait at the bar downstairs. Before we could even order a drink, the pager buzzed and someone actually came to get us. I'm amazed already, this never happens. We get to our table and it's definitely hot. Europeans and their lack of AC baffles me but that's another story. The menu is a bit overwhelming at first but it is broken down into sections so just take your time with it. We ended up ordering the black daal, chicken ruby curry, raita, garlic naan, and spicy lamb chops. For a drink, I had the Viceroy Old Fashioned. The food took a bit to arrive but they're very busy. When it came, it arrived all at once which is fine. The lamb chops were divine and went amazingly well with the spicy chutney. But in truth, all the dishes were delicious and on point. The old fashioned was definitely premade and bottled but it's fine. This place was designed for volume. The price point is higher than most Indian restaurants that you'll find in the area. And the service is slower due to their high volume. But I have to say, they know what they're doing and I see the hype. I'll definitely come back and recommend it to others. read more

We arrived at 7 pm on a Tuesday night and there was a long line. We were told it would be an hour wait. We were allowed into the bar to wait about 10 minutes later. There is a fun drink menu worth a try. Out table was available in about 30 minutes total wait time-don't be scared off by the line. The food was delicious. We had vegetable samosas, grilled spicy lamb, ruby chicken, bhel, garlic naan, black daal and broccoli salad. They food was very rich and flavorful. I highly recommend it. read more

This is our favorite Dishoom location to visit. You can't really go wrong with any Dishoom but again, service does make a difference. We were blessed with Ruben as our server and he is the BEST! [Pre-COVID post] Dishoom was one of the places recommended to me during my trip in London and I'm so glad it was. The service was fantastic here. I had the lamb boti kebab, gunpowder potatoes, black daal, and a mango & fennel lassi. The lamb kebab was a little dry, but the gunpowder potatoes were good. It was interesting to try the black daal, which was also delicious but was more like eating a sauce or tomato soup. This was the first time I ever had a lassi, which was good and really tasted like yogurt. The fennel wasn't too overpowering, so it went well in the drink. read more

Dishoom was a fantastic choice for us on our one night layover in London. While it's definitely not as cheap as the likes of Brick Lane, Dishoom offers up a more upscale dining experience with great ambience and delicious Indian. You're definitely paying for quality here. On a Monday night, the restaurant was extremely packed so we had to wait about 45 minutes for our table. As we were waiting to get inside, the hosts graciously offered some chai that really warmed us up. LOVED THIS! It's the small things that really make the experience even when we hadn't sat down to eat yet. Before being seated, we hung out at their bar downstairs and ordered drinks while waiting. My Kalamansi Smash was a fantastic fusion of lime and vodka with this Filipino fruit. Once we were ready to be seated, our servers took us to our table and explained how ordering would work. They recommended that we each order a curry of some sort, some naan, and perhaps some chicken and lamb for the table. We did just that and my goodness, everything that we tasted was delicious! The curries were definitely hearty enough to fill one person and the lamb kebabs were fire. I wish that we received more naan for the price but it was still good for what it's worth. Overall, we had a great time dining at Dishoom and would come back here in a heartbeat. Note that they add an "optional" 12.5% service charge which is awkward to refuse, but completely up to you if you choose to opt out. Be sure to make it clear at the beginning. read more

After an awful experience with Dishoom in Manchester, I was invited back to any Dishoom by Head Office to try and show me a good dining experience again, this wasn't an attempt to get me to leave a review and leaving a new review wasn't even mentioned, the good intentions were just to restore my faith with the Dishoom brand, of which their location close to Covent Garden is one of the most reviewed places in the UK on Yelp, sadly I couldn't make it to that branch with it undergoing refurbishment so I decided to come to their Kings Cross location which is just two bus stops away from Kings Cross and St Pancras railway stations. Remember if you are visiting here you do need to pre-book and then there might be a short wait, they seem to always have people waiting outside even in the rain, they have a stack of umbrellas waiting! I came to my table a couple of minutes late, but this wasn't a problem and I was seated a couple of minutes later after they found a table. The restauraunt is huge and is over more than one floor, they have a central bar where you walk past and feel the warmth of the brewing chai. All of the staff seemed fantastic, not only did they know the menu well-offering recommendations from everything from recommending which dishes to order and how many of them, explaining the concept to even helping carry my suitcase to the table, which made the journey here easy after getting off my train at Euston. The staff seemed fantastic and they took my allergy seriously, they knew I was coeliac before I had even mentioned it and my server had no problem talking me through the menu to show me what I could eat and also dishes which carried a cross-contamination risk I did try many dishes of which I will most likely slaughter the spelling or traditional name - my favourites included the Chicken Ruby and Gunpowder potatoes. The potatoes had so much flavour, they were seasoned well and tasted good especially with the sauce/cream/yoghurt on the side. The chicken ruby also had amazing flavours, I would have liked more chicken but the chicken it did have was tasty, succulent and breast pieces (my favourite), I wish I'd have ordered my own rather than sharing with my friend! A flaw with this though was bits of something, I presume to make the food a little fancier which I just didn't like the taste of, these were in other parts of my meal too which meant I was picking them out while eating: I do also feel the skins on the potatoes could have been crispier, I also decided to opt for one spiced lamb chop, again it had great flavours but it wouldn't have been my first choice of meat. I would have preferred pork. I'm not a huge fan of Indian food so only a few dishes as a whole appealed to me, but I was pretty happy with what I had. The chai also was great, I tried the plain and chocolate chai, the latter was my favourite. I don't tend to order hot drinks but still, the flavours and spices were there and they were rather good. More importantly, the chicken tikka which was the dish I found to be undercooked and oddly tasting back in Manchester was actually good here, it was probably my least favourite dish due to them using thigh pieces and I do much prefer breast in general, but still, it doesn't mean it was bad by any means. For dessert, I ordered a coconut milk Indian rice pudding dish, I found this to be really sweet and I don't think the cashew nuts went very well with the rest of the dish, it was probably the only item I ordered which I'd rate below a 3/5, which surely says something about the quality of the other dishes which in most cases, Dishoom should be proud. I would like to see more gluten-free chicken breast dishes and perhaps an iced version of the chai, my friend comments her naan bread was the best she has ever had, I wish they did a gluten-free version of that too, but still, I was impressed with the gluten-free preparations regardless and I'm sure if it was possible, they would offer it. Being Indian tapas, it can work out a little expensive as you do have to order multiple dishes and I do feel they try to make dishes a little too fancy at times but the majority of my food tasted really good, and the service, decor, vibes, overall feel were all exceptional especially how the staff never wanted to make me ill - I loved that. Dishoom - Kings Cross certainly warrants a strong four-star rating. read more

Really nice looking 3-story restaurant that would look like a good place to take a date. I visited for breakfast so there wasn't much of a crowd like the lines I saw at the more touristy Covent Garden location. The bar area had a lounge where you can enjoy a coffee or a stiff drink along with your breakfast. I just sat at the bar which had a lot of hustle and bustle with the busy staff. My server was really nice. The vibe and menu reminded me of Pondicheri's in Houston and NYC. Prices were not too high given the upscale nature of the place. I ordered the Kejriwal which were two eggs over chile cheese toast. It was good and the colours were striking with the orange egg yolks but the bread was stiff and hard to cut with a butter knife. I was also surprised to find not a hint of spice given the chile in the toast. My breakfast lassi was also surprisingly less sweet than I expected with the dominant taste of oats and cardamom in the drink. Overall, the flavours of the food and drink were more subtle than something I can get at Pondicheri and may reflect British palates. I would come here again to explore the lunch/dinner menu though. read more

Tucked into the industrial Coal Drops Yard, Dishoom is an oasis of delicious food that's almost worth missing your Kings Cross train to Paris for. Almost. My friends and I searched high and low for English breakfast spots that would still give a member of our party some non-pork options. This, fellow Yelpers, was no small task. The only place that really seemed to fit the bill was Drunch, but Dishoom was a close second. Dishoom's Big Bombay (12.50) was the perfect start to the day along with a warm glass of chocolate chai (3.20). While I practically licked the plate clean, the standouts were the akuri (spiced scrambled eggs) and the masala beans. I love how they elevated pretty standard, easily boring fare, with the addition of fragrant, bold spices. Not knowing when we'd be back in London, we also ordered the sweet appam stack (7.90) to share. We definitely did not have enough stomach real estate to take more than a few token bites of this dish. In retrospect, I wish we got to it first since the appam soaked in a lot of the shrikhand (a sort of yogurt) and got quite cold and soggy. With only a couple of nights in London, and so many other restaurants, we didn't get a chance to try lunch and dinner at Dishoom. It was one of the highlights of our trip, though, and I'd definitely go back! They also offer a loyalty card to track your visits for future rewards. read more

Everyone raved about this place and if I based it upon my wait outside of the restaurant, then I would've given it a 5. We didn't have a reservation and so we waited in line outside. The staff was very friendly and offered us free refreshments. Some delicious drinks and even some brandy. They were delightful and helpful with the menu and what we should eat. Once we got in the restaurant, I'd say that things started to go down hill. The table that we were sitting at were very close together and so any time the servers were at either table next to us, their derrières were right in our faces or on our shoulders. The food was meh. I was so surprised to hear the reviews of their food. I found it to be quite ordinary. The food wasn't very hot and the flavors were just nothing to get excited about. The atmosphere was overall lively, however two things were unpleasant. The upstairs dining was so warm. I didn't realize just how hot it was until I went downstairs to use the toilet and the downstairs was pleasantly chilly. The tables were also very spread out. I wish I'd known because I would've preferred to sit in a more spacious environment and not have my space wouldn't be encroached upon so much. The other is the heavy smell of incense. I imagine that it's part of the ambiance; however, for those who are sensitive to smells, it's overpowering and detracts from the food. read more

I learned about dishoom from another foodie friend and they highly recommended. At first we tried to go to theater other dishoom location, but it was a three hour wait, and we had other things to do, so we had to settle with trying again- breakfast at another location! At first we thought ok we could eat curry for breakfast, but to our surprise there was a robust breakfast menu. So we are the breakfast naan with egg and bacon there were some sauces but my most favorite and most memorable was the refillable chai tea! I think I had more calories in drinking so much chai over my actual meal! It was all fantastic, but the chai waS the best ever so much ginger so much spice and very creamy- it's like when I i drink it it comes and gives me a hug! Ever since that visit I was unable to have regular chai at home, I have the recipe for the Dishoom chai and have made it so mmany times now!! Restaurant ambience - feels like I'm in Asia- bustling with people even so early in the morning! There are a lot of wait staff to help tend to all our needs and they are quick too! On our most recent trip to London we made 3 attempts to eat at Dishoom. The Covent Garden location was a mad house the first two times we tried for dinner, and we were too hungry to wait, so we planned for the King's Cross location for lunch instead, which I would highly recommend, as I believe it's their largest location. We were seated promptly with water and menus and our server immediately came and explained us the menu, along with some great recommendations (ahem, Yauatcha Soho could learn a thing or two regarding customer service). First up were drinks, Alfatoon's Colada (too sweet) and the Mango Lassi (perfection). We started with the Okra Fries (I generally hate okra, but omg....these were fab), and the Vegetable Samosas (so delicious). For our main meal we had the Masala Prawns (excellent, although a hair over done), House Black Daal (solid but not earth shattering...chutney's help), Mattar Paneer (excellent), and the Bowl of Greens (so flavourful), with white rice and garlic naan on the side. To say we destroyed it was an understatement. There was some black daal left but it was quite a generous portion and there was only two of us. Only negatives I have to say is the kale in the Bowl of Greens was a little difficult and tough to eat and should be served in smaller pieces. For dessert with had the Dishoom Chocolate Pudding with Kashmiri chili ice cream. It was so decadent so I'm glad we did decide to share despite the menu warning us otherwise. While this may not be the most traditional Indian restaurant, it's certainly some of the most creative and flavourful. If you just want a curry or thali, go somewhere else. If you want a culinary experience, Dishoom is your (and my) new favourite. read more

Best Indian food I've ever had! We had the black daal, the ruby chicken, and the lamb chops. All rich in flavor but the lamb chops were def the stand out dish. The atmosphere is really cool as well. Will definitely come back whenever I'm in London. read more

Had dinner at Dishoom with my family. Overall was really happy Food 5/5: Dishoom's style is traditional flavors + authentic Indian food. We tried a variety of dishes, and thought some items were only OK but certain dishes were absolutely amazing and made dishoom deserving of 5 stars on food! - Chocolate chai 5/5: Kind of like a hot chocolate with some Indian spices inside - Pau Bhaji 5/5: Must order item. The bhaji's flavor was really good. - Chat 2/5: The chat is a potato base and I thought it was pretty mediocre. - Cheese toast 4/5: Well done, but nothing to write home about. - Fried okra 5/5: Really well fried and flavored. Probably the best fried okra I've had. Try it with the spicy chutney! - Paneer Tikka 3/5: This was good (I like paneer in general) but nothing special as far as paneer tikkas go - Gunpowder Potatoes 4/5: The potatoes were well cooked and well flavored (not that spicy). Great item to order if you like potatoes. - Chole Puri 4/5: The puri was generally good and the chole was well flavored (deeper than I normally have) - dal 5/5: this is another must order item (but it has a strong buttery flavor so skip it if you don't enjoy that). The lentils were slightly overcooked, but the flavor was out of this world! - Jackfruit Biryani 5/5: One of my favorite dishes there. Service 3/5: The service was why I'm rating dishoom 4 stars. The servers were nice but it was extremely slow service (I had to ask them to bring me the check at the end after waiting for 30 minutes). read more

Came for lunch and left way more satisfied than expected. This place was absolutely delicious. Our server was amazing and extremely helpful. It's best to order multiple plates. We were told to do about 5-6 plates for 2 people and ended up doing 7. My partner and I walked away pretty full. We ordered 2 starters, 4 main plates, and 1 side of garlic naan. The history behind the restaurant itself is pretty interesting as well. It used to be an old industrial factory. It adds tons of character to the place. Not sure what the other Dishoom locations look like but I hope they're as cool as this one. Definitely would recommend! The restaurant is highly rated by a lot of people but I honestly felt a little underwhelmed and left wanting. We ordered daal makhani, matter paneer and naan bread. Came here based on a recommendation from one of the GF's college friends. We waited about 15 minutes outside, but they give you complimentary house chai for you to sip on. Very delicious and I wish I had taken more than 1 cup of the chai. Once inside, we were handed a buzzer/pager ushered downstairs to the bar where we waited another 30-40 minutes for a table. There the GF and I shared a beer. After waiting we were again ushered upstairs to a table where we ate. We ordered 5 things for £41, and the thing I liked the most was the Dishoom Calamari and the Black House Daal. This is by far one of the better spots in London. People in NYC recommend it. While not the MOST AUTHENTIC, it the food does live up to the hype. read more
