I was so pumped to try Dishoom as I've seen it all over the Internet, and my friend raved about it. I heard this is one place to go if you only have a day in London, and I'd eat there whenever you're able to get a reservation for lunch or dinner--totally worth it! We came in at 1:30pm. The restaurant is huge, and the ambiance is lovely. The staff were very welcoming and made good recommendations. This food truly blew me away. For four people, one order of each dish was enough to share for lunch, and we were super full at the end. We skipped drinks and jumped straight to food as we walked the Tower Bridge earlier that day. We started off with two of my favorite appetizers--paneer tikka and chili chicken. Both were so flavorful with a perfect amount of spice. The chicken was so crispy, and the lime added a nice tang. The paneer was soft and marinated nicely. We also loved the ruby chicken, which had a classic butter chicken flavor except so much better quality. The gunpowder potatoes were spicy and made a decent side dish, but not really our favorite. The chicken biryani and garlic naan were so worth it too! Definitely a meal for the books 10/10 read more

Met some family here and had a wonderful dinner! Our family had made a reservation, but accidentally booked for AM hours instead of dinner, so we had a little wait. At the Kings Cross location, we were able to be seated in the downstairs bar while we waited for our table and enjoyed some lovely drinks. Then we moved upstairs and ordered way too much food, but everything was so tasty it was hard to regret it. I'm glad I got to try so many dishes. The place is gorgeous with fun decor and the service was outstanding. I keep finding myself surprised by the attention to food allergies, but I definitely appreciate it! My expectations were sky high given all the recommendations to eat here! The wait time was zero ( which is extremely unusual). The host and hostess were extremely kind - we had 2 additional guests show up and they allowed us to sit together. We ordered a number of dishes and I have rated the dishes based on my favorites : 1) Okra Fries/ Black House Dal - Brilliant! 2) Paneer Roll - tangy and the right blend of spices 3) Mutton Sheekh Kabab - could have used a little bit more flavor punch 4) Murg Malai and Chicken Tikka - good but I have had better 5) Chai / uninspired I am glad I got to try the food here - the ambience and decor brought in me a wave nostalgia of the wonderful Iranian Cafes in Pune that I had been exposed to years back. This is a relatively new branch of the eponymous modern take on Indian cuisine, located in the historic Coal Drop Yard area behind Kings Cross station. Dishoom is known for its breakfasts, and particularly things like its bacon and egg naan bread. However, on this visit, I was with a group of friends for lunch. We decided to go for the set menu, which comprised three different starters and three different mains. They provided some extra mains for me, given I was the only vegetarian. It was served with chapati and naan bread, and all the dishes were effectively sharing bowls. The food was good, although not all the dishes were outstanding: the brown lentil Dahl was very nice and well spiced, but it is such a staple, that every Indian restaurant should be able to do this well. The jackfruit biryani was an interesting take, but not something I would have again, as it was a little oily and rather bland. The best dish was a paneer and pepper kebab, cooked tandoori style. it was quite fiery and very delicious. We finished the meal with individual kulfi ice creams on a stick. Service throughout was friendly and pretty swift. They provide jugs of water for free, although some of us operated for beers or Indian lemonade (including salt, it is an interesting flavour). Overall, we had a perfectly decent meal, but at £50 a head (including drinks and service) for lunch, it's relatively expensive for an Indian meal, even in London. I think it would be a nice venue for a big group, but I know of more authentic and cheaper Indian restaurants in the area if I was choosing one myself in future. read more

Dishoom was on my friend's bucket list to try while we were in London. I think we did the best possible thing and went there at 11:45 pm after finishing a tour. There was no wait, we got seated immediately, and the food came out in literally 10 mins! We ordered the fish amritsari, the chicken berry Britannia biryani, and the ruby chicken with a roomali roti. The food was great! Our absolute favorite was the chicken berry Britannia biryani. The dum was wonderfully done and when you opened it up, the aromas of the biryani enthralled every single smell and taste receptor. The accompanying salan and raita were fantastic and the spice level was on the hotter side, which was perfect for us! The chicken was tender and spiced up which we loved. The fish amritsari was nice and crispy and the accompanying chutney was delicious. It could've been done with less oil overall as after a few bites, we definitely started feeling the weight of the food we had ordered. The ruby chicken was fine. Nothing wrong with it, but since this is one of their signature dishes, I expected to be vowed by it and I was not. I also felt that there was a tomato powder used in the curry because the taste reminded me of the instant tomato soup from Maggie or Knorr. The chicken was fine, but yeah, the curry wasn't up to my expectations. The roomali was less of a roomali, more of a thin large roti. Nothing wrong with that, but roomali in India is obviously very different so again, my expectations were very different. I also had the Bombay Bellini because of its kokum hint. The kokum was just a hint. You can actually add more of it! The people who order this drink usually order it because they like kokum so please don't be stingy about it! The pricing is actually quite reasonable but I do think they should charge more for that biryani. I paid approximately the same amount for the ruby chicken and the biryani and we know who the winner was and by miles!! The servers were all nice. The tables are small and the whole place is very dark, which takes away a little bit from the whole experience. We had a good time but we've heard that the wait time here can be up to 2 hours and I can safely tell you that this food, while being very good, is not worth a 2 hour wait. So try to stop by when you can be seated quickly or look for a different option. read more

I have to say that when I came for my first time, Dishoom was amazing , service (by Bakul) was amazing and the atmosphere was just as amazing. My mistake was going more than once. Let me explain why. Dishoom had coupons they were handing out which was £10 off £40, which appears good on the surface, but it is so hard to hit these even numbers with their weird pricing. The food is decent. I had the chicken ruby, okra fries, house salad, lamb samosas, basmati rice, chicken biryani. All of the food was good, but the portions were extremely small for the price. I only recommend Dishoom for the experience as a tourist, otherwise you are better off getting authentic non-whitewashed Indian food elsewhere. read more

For this establishment, I intend to write a review for the location in King's Cross as well, even if I have already written one for the Covent Garden location, since I ordered some different items this time, and my experience was a bit different. While waiting, I enjoyed unlimited cups of house chai, which was excellent because that drink was the bomb! I ended up having about 6 cups while waiting for a table. Their house chai is always a pleasant to have, and I would recommend everyone have some whenever they visit Dishoom! This time I ordered the chicken biryani and the house black daal. Both were just super flavorful in the best way possible. I was not certain if it was lentils in the house black daal, but it looked like some type of legume, and it was extremely soft, which matched their description that it was cooked for over 24 hours for extra harmony. The chicken biryani had a good amount of coriander, garlic, and ginger, and I could taste all of them. The cranberries above gave another layer of flavor that didn't contradict with the existing flavors in the biryani, which was amazing. Service proved to be top notch once again. Our server was intentional in checking with the chef on if any dishes had bananas since my partner had a banana allergy, and in checking with us to see if banana leaves were okay. Even though we didn't end up ordering anything under the grills section, our server's gesture was very appreciated. Once again, highly recommend! Having been to almost all of their London branches, I can say The King's Cross Dishoom is my favorite. All Dishoom restaurants have an unique ambience but this one embodies the spirit of the chain in an interesting way. It is housed in an old Victorian industrial building that is decorated with the story of Indian Independence on the inside, a cultural cross between Bombay and London. The food, of course, is excellent but I want to point out how cool the location itself is. The 1948 Sour with Amrut (distillery founded in 1948) and Toki Suntory whiskies is my drink of choice here. The pav bhaji and chicken kathi roll were reminiscent of the ones I've had in Bombay which is the highest compliment I can give them. If you are in London, go shop at Coal Drops Yard and then stop by for what I'm sure will be the best meal of your trip. read more

We decided we need to try this place as it was highly recommended by every video I have seen when it came to Indian food in London. The staff was very friendly even with the wait time being 45 mins they offered hot chai to people who was waiting in line and when there was room they will let us in the bar area to wait for our seat. When we were in the restaurant it was definitely a high energy vibe and they had incensed burning creating a great visual and aroma for the restaurant. When we sat down to there was a hand washing station nearby which I think all restaurant should have since not all washroom visit is for anything else other than to wash your hands prior to eating. We ordered the Vegetable Samosas because they ran out of the lamb samosas, the Dishoom House Chaat, Chicken Ruby, Mutton Pepper Fry, basmati Rice and Garlic Naan. For our Drink we ordered the House Chai and Aflatoon's Colada. Now the starter Samosas was fantastic was disappointed that there was no Lamb Samosas. The Chaat was a surprising hit as I never had it before but the combination of texture and flavor was amazing. We enjoyed the Chicken Ruby as it was very flavorful and tender went really well with the naan and basmati rice we ordered. The mutton went better with rice more than the naan. I was warned by staff that is the spiciest dish they had but I didn't find it overly spicy just the right amount. Anytime someone tells me they're going to London, I don't tell them to check out Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, or Tower Bridge... I TELL THEM ALL TO GO HERE !!! This is hands down the BEST Indian food i've had in my whole life and I can say that with my whole chest. Really liked this place, but I think you can find way better Indian food in London, especially considering the price. If you like really nice decor and a place that is really busy and super big/enough seating for a large party, this could work! Came with a friend and there was a line out the door even though we went to be seated around 3:00PM ish. The place was really beautiful inside and I really liked how they made it look so historical - it's definitely unique and I've seen similar but not like this. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, and we immediately ordered a chai and a mango lassi. I think the best parts of the restaurant were these drinks - the chai was strong and my friend loved her lassi. Of the dishes, I thought their house chaat was by far the best. I really liked that they added more garnishes than they usually do on the chaat, and it was super flavorful, tangy and still crunchy. I don't really understand what the other two dishes were - we got a paneer tikka which was dry but it tasted way too smoky for my liking and was almost bitter? The other house dish...was just a really bad malai kofta almost. I don't even know how to describe what the flavor was. I think it's truly a hit or miss with the dishes, so just FYI I very much preferred the chaat and lassi (it's hard to mess those up to begin with). I was recommended Dishoom for my first trip to London and I was very excited to try it out. I did make a reservation online in advance as I didn't want to wait but I came on a Friday night for dinner and while the place was super popular with many people seated, I think you could have walked in and grabbed a table. The restaurant itself is lovely, the architecture is that of an old railway transit building, it is 2 story, and the decor is just so unique and interesting. Even the bathrooms are nicely decorated. The waiters were all very friendly and mine advised me to order a side along with my entree as many people might find the entrees small. This actually wasn't an issue for me and I took some of my entree to-go, but I loved the food so I had no trouble with this. Dishoom Chicken Tikka 4/5, this is made w/ a vinegar marinade as opposed to the more traditional yogurt. It is spicier than other chicken tikka's I have had in the past (in that others have not been spicy at all) but I like spicy foods so this wasn't an issue. I was a bit surprised to learn this wasn't a curry like with masala but I also ordered the steamed basmati rice with it and it blended well together. Lamb samosas 5/5 - omg these were so excellent, I know I will have dreams about them. The lamb inside was soft and tender and excellently seasoned/spiced. Mango and Fennel Lassi 3/5, this was just okay. I've never tried a mango lassi that had fennel in it and I think that is what threw me off. It also wasn't super sweet and mango-y how I was imagining so this didn't satisfy my mango lassi craving. read more

Glad I got to finally try this place on my trip to London. If you want to visit, plan ahead as reservations go fast and I wouldn't recommend walking in unless you want to wait for 1+ hours. We came as a group of 6 and shared a bunch of dishes which is the perfect way to do it. We tried dishes including - okra fries, house chaat, chicken ruby, chicken biryani, garlic naan, black daal, 2 greens. Everything was pretty yummy! We also all had a mango lassi at one of my friend's recommendation and I loved it. One firend ventured out and tried the Rose Lassi, which I have to say was inferior. Dishoom has been on my list for years, but I was never able to go during my prior visits to London. I am so glad I finally went because wow, did it live up to the hype!!! I went to the King's Cross location, because a friend had said the architecture and decor was great. A group of four of us went for lunch, and we had to wait about 30 minutes but it was a comfortable wait since they served complimentary lemonade and we were able to sit at a bench inside. The other notable thing about this location is that they are used to travelers coming through with suitcases so they are very accommodating about storing luggage next to the table (we had a spacious corner table that helped). I also noticed a couple of parties who had folks using wheelchairs, and it seemed that the restaurant was pretty accessible (although I didn't use the restroom on the lower level so I'm not sure about how easy that would be to get to). The menu is quite extensive. Our server recommended each person order 2-3 dishes each. I would definitely recommend the chai (I had the oat chai) which had unlimited refills. I will dream about that chai for a while. I also appreciated that everything seemed to be served in cups and plates that actually matched what I saw being used at restaurants when I visited India (ex: chai served in special glass cups). The standouts for me were: - Vegetable Samosas - Pau Bhaji - Masala Prawns - Chicken Ruby - Chilli Broccoli Salad I personally wasn't a big fan of the Black Daal (even though it's one of their most popular items). We had the best experience at Dishoom in Kensington in December and had to try the Kings Cross location during our trip! We had a lovely lunch dining experience - the staff at Dishoom cultivates a fabulous experience for their guests. As for drinks, we started out with the AFLATOON'S COLADA, WATERMELON SHARBAT and the PASSIONFRUIT SHARBAT. All were great options, but the passion fruit sharbat was my favorite! We also ordered the ROSE & CARDAMOM LASSI as they were out of our favorite mango lassi! I finished with a lovely iced chai latte. For food, we ordered the LAMB SAMOSAS, DISHOOM HOUSE CHAAT, PANEER TIKKA, SPICY LAMB CHOPS & the CHICKEN RUBY. All of which were incredible! We had tried the house chaat, lamb samosas and chicken ruby before and all lived up to our expectations. The paneer tikka was one of my favorite dishes of the meal! It was flavorful with silky creamy paneer cheese. The house chaat should be on every table in the restaurant. The many different components in the house chaat work perfectly together. We ate here on the very first night in London. I had been recommended this place by many people so it was worth a visit. The ambiance was just beautiful reminding me of a pre-independence India. First of all, I highly recommend to make reservation at Dishoom to avoid long waiting time. We went to King's cross location on Saturday night, and it was more than 1.5 hour wait. The down side was one person of the party had to physically stay in the line to secure the spot. As I know, the wait at other Dishoom locations are 2 hours plus, so I tried to make reservation for the next day at the King's cross location but it wasn't available at the time. We decided to get something else for dinner on Saturday night instead. We came back on Sunday night around 9pm to see if we had a better luck this time. We were told the wait was 1 hour for a party of 3. We had a late lunch so I felt like I was okay for a late dinner. They gave us lemonade/chai when we were in the queue. The line was pretty long when we joined but it moved up pretty fast. 15 minutes later we were able to get inside and received our pager. We were told it would be another 45 minutes wait by the bar. I didn't keep track of the time but I felt like it was about 1 hour wait until we got seated. The ambiance was nice but it's pretty loud. Our server came by quickly and he was very kind. He went over the menu, asked about food allergy and informed it would be 20 minutes wait after we placed our order. Since we already looked at the menu while waiting for our table we placed order immediately to save us time. We got their signature dish House Black Daal, Chicken Ruby, Garlic Naan, and Okra fries. For drinks, I got the mango lassi with fennel and my partner got CBD bhang lassi. Food wise, I absolutely LOVED the Chicken Ruby - it tasted similar like butter chicken, but at another level. I was not a fan of their House Black Daal, but my partner liked it. Apparently, many people liked that dish too. Maybe it's just me lol. Okra fries were a pretty unique concept. I never had fry version before. It was nice that they also offered variety of chutneys - mint, chili, tamarind and date. Mango lassi was very good, and sweet just enough to my liking. We weren't impressed with the CBD bhang lassi. Service was phenomenal and professional. They are certainly busy but they still keep their service at high standard. There was a gentleman ( I assumed manager?) came to check on our table to see if we needed anything else when we almost finished our food. It was a very nice touch. When we left, all the staff thanked us for coming. I was very impressed with their service. When we left around 22:30, there were still people waiting outside. When we walked by Dishoom in Covent Garden location yesterday, the queue was twice as long as the queue at Kingcross. We'd return to Dishoom in the future to try other items but with reservation. Just amazing - the Tandoori Lamb Chops alone is Epic & worth the visit, but every item we ordered was incredible (the Chicken Tikka, OMG). We've been to a few other Dishoom locations, but this one was new to us. It's a massive location and I love how vertical it is - there's like four different levels which creates a much more spacious feel to the restaurant. Putting an extra bar in the basement creates a cool vibe as well. Definitely make a reservation though as, even though it's large, the line was just as much around the block as every other Dishoom location. Foodwise? I mean excellent. As good as it gets for me. Love that there's just a couple curries but a ton of stuff coming from the grill. Their grilled paneer is one of my favorites. The chicken ruby is a classic too, the epitome of the classic. I visited for breakfast with my family, and we split a few dishes. Here is the consensus: The bacon naan roll is incredible, not to be missed! Good quality rashers and fresh-baked bread prepared well and consistently -- well worth the price. The fry-up is a fun twist on the traditional full monty, with traditional components seasoned generously with Indian spice blends. The masala beans are not to be missed, though the eggs were a bit overcooked and watery. The mushrooms and tomatoes were of very fine quality, extremely fresh, and added both a wonderful taste and texture. The house variant on an espresso martini was good, extremely well-composed so even the black walnut bitters got their moment in the spotlight, though the chili liqueur was just spicy enough to venture into unpleasant, at least for my own tastes. Next time I come for breakfast, I'll be sticking with the bacon naan roll... though I may also request a side of the masala beans. Such a popular place even on a Monday night! This was recommended by a colleague of mine and so during my first night in London I came here without a reservation. I had to wait for about one hour before sitting down. While waiting the waitress came out with hot tea which was quite helpful since the evening was very windy. Dishoom is completely worth the hype! Pro tip: come for lunch because they take reservations everyday until 5:45pm. My bf and I both ordered their house chai which was amazing.. best chai I've ever tasted! I also ordered their old fashioned and my bf got the espresso martini which were both good but expensive. We split the vegetable samosas, garlic naan, house black daal and the chicken ruby. The house black daal is INCREDIBLE, it's hard to describe the flavor because it's so unique.. but it's absolutely delicious! The chicken ruby was also really good. Good Indian fusion spot with a cute interior and decorations. Service was fast and friendly, and they gave us glasses of soda and chai as we waited in line for our table, which was about 45 minutes on the weekend. 100% worth the hype -- the best meal I had in London! I went to two locations of Dishoom on my London trip, and this was by far the superior one. As a solo diner, I didn't have to wait long. Once the host coming through the line saw I was alone, he immediately seated me at the bar. Coming alone is a great hack at this location, some folks near me were quoted wait times close to 2 hours! The service at the bar was fantastic. I wanted to try so many items! The house black daal was unreal. Still thinking about it. I loved all the interesting artwork on the walls -- they styled this industrial location as an Indian godown and the music was on point too.
