Port Authority bus terminal. Definitely not one of those places anyone enjoys waiting for their transport in. Friday afternoon, with time to spare before hopping on a bus to D.C., me and the gf thought it would be great to have one drink before hitting the road. Yelping landed us in District M. In my opinion, one of the best tucked away secrets for that area. District M can be found inside the hotel associated with their address. It's relatively easy to get to because of the elevators you can use. We really appreciated the elevators because we were carrying travel bags. When we arrived, I noticed a bunch of people (with travel bags) sitting on benches in between the bar and the restaurant. Also, I couldn't help but notice how clean and modern District M looks. There are also a variety of seating options: Nice comfy seating for groups of four or so, small tables for those who want bar service, and regular bar stool space at the bar. We opted for the small table, and afterwards approached the bartender to inquire about happy hour options. I went with the Sam Adams, and my gf went with a glass of red. The ambiance of the place is nice, quiet, and casual. Feels like an oasis when compared to the chaos nearby on 8th avenue near Port Authority. Highly recommend people check this place out. read more

Now hotel lobby bars are not a first choice simply because they are usually ahh this place looked cool & the reviews were not bad so we figured why not check it out since we were in the area & needed to kill some time, For a hotel lobby bar this place looks nice, decent set up with room to sit. We sat & the Bar I had a some Stella since my night was just starting good beer can't go wrong my friend tried the M for maurizio taste wise ok but kinda sad looking in the sense that it was serve in a flute very small drink for the price. Surprisingly good gourmet hand-stretched pizza, and live entertainment certain nights. They've got a focused (read: small) menu, and the kitchen's good at what they do. Their Mulberry Street ($18; credit accepted) was a crowd-pleaser, full of spicy fennel sausage, mozzarella, and roasted bell peppers. The cheese was super stretchy, and the whole shebang came out in a jiffy. Service isn't the fastest if you need a follow up on your initial order, but in their defense, there's usually only one or two folks supporting a mob of patrons (locals and people staying at the hotel - this is a hotel bar). read more

Went here one evening after a show for a drink because I read all the reviews that made it seem like a real hidden gem. Not the case. This is your standard, run-of-the-mill, hotel bar. If you're looking for a nice quiet place to sit between a family from Italy with 3 small children and a family from Wisconsin with their invalid granny, then this is your place! The drinks are decent enough, but priced higher than they should be. But expected since it's in a hotel lobby in the middle of Time Square. To use the restrooms, you need a hotel room key. We had to borrow one from the gift store salesperson. read more

Absolutely one of my favorite bars in the city! Such a hidden gem, literally, since it is located inside the Row NYC. A very intimate space compared to other places in Hell's Kitchen with lots of seating in a spacious layout, whether you prefer to sit at the bar or at a table. I've been here on dates and just to catch up with friends, and have also been here once for live music once which was fun. The noise level isn't too loud, which is great since you can actually have conversations with those you are with. I love the chic, sleek feel/decor of the bar which creates such a great atmosphere. I've always found the bartenders/waiters have always been very nice and helpful as well. District M is home to one of my most favorite cocktails in Manhattan - 15 Shades of Green (vodka + rose). I will always come back for them! All in all, I highly recommend going to District M, especially since its location is so convenient and close to many NY attractions. Chic cafe for a great quick breakfast or cup of coffee. I stopped in on a Saturday morning for a quick breakfast before work. I didn't realize it was there due to its location in the hotel's entrance in spite of being in that area quite often. There was no line and hardly anyone there and plenty of seating since it also seemed to double as a part of the lobby. The coffee was really good and the breakfast sandwich was clearly pre-made, but used high quality ingredients and reheated well. So let's start with drinks, I started with a whiskey sour ... made without egg whites which was the start of the disappointment.. My friends were staying here at the row so I wound up coming back to a poorly made old fashioned. It was nuked with way more simple syrup than called for by at least a 100%. If you butcher an old fashioned it really it really is inexcusable. Both were about 16$ ish a piece without tip. Sure it's a good location but for the poor craftsmanship and execution it should be no where close. The service was also subpar, the one time a waitress took an order (vodka cranberry) she had to yell out from the bar to confirm that's what we wanted. Who does that! Also when we asked for a minute to review the menu I would think it's customary to offer maybe water but that wasn't forthcoming either. After that there wasn't much love left in me for the place, and did not stay for food and it may have been good but we'll never know now and I'm just fine with that. read more

We came here to claim our two free drinks of prosecco per night at the Row hotel (which was a scam!). As we sat down at the bar, the bartender (some young guy with tattoos) would glance at us but wouldn't come to greet us or anything. He kept hanging out near the corner of girls. We looked at the menu for about 5 minutes until he finally came over and asked us what we wanted. I told him about the free prosecco and he was confused at first but then asked us for our room number. He filled up our glass and then went back to the corner of girls. It's cool if he wants to hit on the girls, but hey, at least take care of our drinks first and our refills and then you can do whatever you want. Another bartender came by and asked us how we were doing and he cared more about us than the first guy. Their prices are quite expensive here. I recommend going somewhere else with better prices and better customer service read more

Row was pretty cool! We came here last weekend (halloween weekend) The cocktails though were over priced but the ambience was great. Me and my girlfriend came to stay and watch a broadway show for the weekend and this was a cool little bar in the row hotel to hang out at before our show. The pizza was really good we ordered a mulberry pizza and two cocktails. They had a dj who was awesome and she played really good musi and was super friendly when we asked to take a photo with her. They also had a projector up which was cool and we got to watch the game. I def. recommend this spot. read more

This place is soo pretty. I could live in here all day! - However getting to the bathroom whether it is #1 or #2 is horrible. What if it is an emergency? You literally have to leave the place, walk up the stairs, around the take out place and then press the button to take the elevator down to the lower level floor. I was really jetlagged from flying in from London, and staying at the Row (hotel which District M is situated within.) I was waiting for my husband to get into NYC, so decided to pop down to District M for some early dinner and a drink. I went in and sat myself down. No menus anywhere and no one approached me. I managed to spot a menu dumped on a table across the room so walked over and grabbed it to take a look. I was sat down for over 10 minutes and still none of the staff approached me (there were about 6 people standing around not doing anything.) I finally got bored of waiting and went up to the counter. No smiles. No greeting. I ordered a pizza and a very over-priced cocktail, and the guy behind the counter (looked a bit like a manager) said "if you take a seat then we take your order at the table" I replied that I had in fact been waiting for 10 minutes already. No apology, just a look of distain. Saving grace was that the pizza was delicious (but it would have to be for $20.) I finished my cocktail and I had to literally flag down a waitress to get a refill. And even then it seemed like I was inconveniencing them just asking. For a $60 bill, I expect way better service. Really ruined my first experiences of New York. So many other places to eat nearby so just don't bother. read more

Bring your appetite and your dancing shoes! 6:30-10:30PM. NO COVER. We sat in club chairs in the lobby and ordered thin crust Margherita pizzas and beer. We danced swing, Lindy hop and cha-cha, while tourists buzzed about lounging and taking photos. There is an open seating area facing the street, it is like a stair-stepped pyramid, you can lounge by the windows, and the band was arranged facing the interior of the bar. There was also a quieter side room on the south end. This looks like a great place to meet friends in the theater district. You can also sit at the bar. There is a great international magazine shop on the east wall behind the central elevator bank, featuring fashion magazines. The public restroom is modern and clean. I met up with friends to watch the Super Bowl back in Feb and I really enjoyed myself! The food was great and the staff was really accommodating. I especially liked the beautiful entry way and the layout of this lounge, so much so that I recently went back with clients for drinks and I was pleasantly surprised to arrived on what seemed to be a swinging Jazz night. There isn't much I can say about a bar that serves pizza and cheese plates with over priced cocktails, however, I will say that our server Jennifer was truly amazing! Not only did she help us pair the correct cocktails and wine with our food choices, she was also positive, friendly and very helpful. Furthermore, we also noticed that when the bar got a little busy, Jen did not break under pressure, but instead she was able to service the entire dinning area without losing her smile and without breaking a sweat. Aaron was our server/bartender & not only was he super helpful/friendly - but a true mixologist. Any drink you can think of, he can make it. Loved the dim lighting, high ceilings and projector-like backdrop that looped black and white photos of legendary celebrities. If I could recall her name, I would make the effort to call mgmt just to say well done. She was gracious, helpful and knowledgeable. A few odd observations; the group near us was informed they would have to close out their bar bill because the bar staff was changing over. Ha! They sure did pay the bill. Then leave! Possibly, it's a NYC thing? I'm from Philadelphia, never heard of having to pay as the bar staff changed. It is odd that they reserved the high pub tables. For who? Very nice looking place! Clean, open, floor plan with plenty of natural light. I stopped in on a Sunday early evening so the place was far from packed. Sat at the bar and got great service and the cocktails we tried were actually as good as they sounded on the menu! After my Fifty Shades of Green (I think that's what it was called) the bartender helped me choose a great beer, La Chouffe. This place is a bit pricey for me but not for this area and I'd definitely hit it again. If you're in the area or on the way to or from a show you can't go wrong. read more

One star because the food was okay. We are staying in the hotel which is in the same building so thought we would pop down for a meal as it looked nice. We sat down for our meal and the waitress named Shelvey came over after about 5 minutes and asked us for our drink order as well as handing us the food menu. We ordered our drinks straight away and she returned a while later placing them down and leaving quickly before we could ask for some food. We then waited some time, she never returned. We went up to the bar and asked if we could order food and the barman said we had to wait for the waitress. Another 10 minutes passed and I saw the barman talk to the waitress so she would come over. We ordered our pizza and she walked off. We had finished our drinks a while before she took the order and she didn't ask if we wanted more or clear the glasses. She returned with the pizza and rushed off again. Once we finished the pizza we had to track her down to try and get a cheque. After receiving the cheque I noticed she added her own 18% tip to the bill. She of course ran off again so I went to the bar to ask why we can't chose the tip amount. The barman said he can't talk to me to talk to the waitress. I said can he just answer my question to which the waitress appeared. She said it is 'state law' to add the tip themselves. The barman then said it is the minimum required tip in New York. I said to her I am not having that choice taken away how can they pick their own tip. She left and came back with a new cheque without the tip and said its New York State law to add 18% tips. I have been in America for a month now and eaten at multiple restaurants in New York and no one has added their own tip. They tried to take advantage of us not being from America and that is deceitful and disgraceful. I cannot believe that people would do this. We have tipped over 20% for people that gave us amazing service and will continue to do so. Safe to say Shelvey didn't get a great tip. read more

Great place for a glass of wine or craft beer. Quiet and cool next to craziness. I didn't eat. But I like the vibe.

I only ever stopped here for breakfast because I was staying at the row, but it was great! The bagels were warm and the cream cheese, butter, and strawberry jam(which was amazing) were all free. The ham and cheese croissant was nice and the coffee was extremely good. The guys working there were very friendly and helpful. If you're at the row don't forget to stop by! read more

I brought a large-ish group of friends here this past Sunday. I had emailed the event person about reserving tables and received a confirmation, but when I arrived the staff had no knowledge of this. However, since I had been told that Sunday evening was quiet for them, they had no trouble setting us up in a private back area, so good save by the staff! Two friends from out of town were staying at what used to be The Milford Plaza, now it's Row NYC. I went to meet them twice for a few cocktails. I must say Great Facade, cool lobby and rooms. What totally surprised me was the lounge area! I loved the vibe. There was a digital gallery (staff term) of old school New York/celebs projected onto the wall. DJ was playing music you would hear at more chic downtown venues etc... This place is a great find, music check, decor check, service check. Can't remember my sever name but she was a bubbly blonde.
