For a while, Zona Rosa was one of my favorite restaurants, the food was delicious, it was a great deal, and the portions were big. Unfortunately inflation and the economy has changed the prices and food sizes, but at least it still tastes good. Some of my favorites here over the years have been the salmon tacos, Esquites, Enchiladas De Camarone and suizas, and the bacon guac. I used to not bat an eye and order whatever I wanted, but now I do have to think a little bit more so that the bill doesn't get too high. This location has a super cute front patio, it's bright, light, and airy, transporting you out of San Jose and right to a vacation mode. Even though it's on a pretty busy road, the traffic isn't usually distracting. Parking in the area can be hard, there's a couple paralele spots and then it's all neighborhood parking on the side of the street with the restaurant. Still one of our favorite restaurants, even though we don't eat out as much as we used to. We came here on Father's Day with a friend visiting from out of town. They have seating out front inside and in the back, but the place was pretty full. Nonetheless, we were seated quickly as we had a reservation. It is a good idea to call ahead and make one. The prices are high, but hopefully all their people are making a good living and the portions are enough for our appetites at least. I had the shrimp enchiladas, and my wife had the vegetarian tacos with a side order of scrambled eggs. There was nearly a mixup as the waiter thought we wanted to order an egg taco and that's considerably more expensive but we got it straightened out with the maitre D. I don't usually leave negative reviews unless the experience is genuinely poor. I visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening with my mother. We arrived at approximately 8:26 p.m. When we checked in, I specifically requested to be seated indoors. The host, a young man, informed us that the wait would be approximately 10-15 minutes. When our table was ready, however, we were seated outside despite my clear request to sit inside. Throughout this time, there appeared to be an available table indoors. Our server, Mariana, was courteous and attentive, greeting us within two minutes of being seated. We placed our appetizer order at approximately 8:29 p.m., but did not receive it until around 9:00 p.m., resulting in a wait of roughly 30 minutes. To Mariana's credit, she communicated that there was a delay in the kitchen and kept us informed. However, our main entrées did not arrive until approximately 9:27 p.m. I remained patient and understanding throughout the evening. Having worked as both a server and bartender during my undergraduate studies, I understand that delays can happen. Nevertheless, the length of the wait was excessive, particularly given the apparent lack of managerial intervention. The manager on duty appeared to be walking the floor but did not seem to address the situation or assist in resolving service delays. The vibes are always great, with options for indoor and outdoor seating, heaters when it's cold. Everyone is so nice and welcoming, it feels like family. By far my favorite thing to get on the menu is the Baja beer battered fish tacos and a cucumber margarita. But we also have loved the tortilla soup. Writing a review mainly for their mushroom taco. Their blue corn tortillas were freshly pressed and grilled infront of us outside. They were amazing. The best tortilla I ever had in my life. The mushrooms were seasoned SO well. They were so addicting. I dream of those tacos. The chicken tacos were delicious as well on the same blue corn tortillas; however, I prefer the mushroom taco. I also tried their dirty rice -- it was very spicy. I couldn't each much of it. I normally love Spanish rice but this was not close at all. Came here for lunch with a few coworkers and we left not feeling impressed. The food portions were smaller than we expected and it didn't really taste that good, not to mention the price for what you get isn't really worth it. It was very loud inside as I think they were making pico and using the multipurpose chopper. It got so loud at one point that we couldn't even talk with each other without having to practically scream. The decoration is beautiful though and feels like you're at a Mexican mom's fancy kitchen. Service was not good at all. We had to wait over 15 minutes to get our order taken and then we watched our food stand on the counter top for another 5 minutes. Once we were served we were never checked up on until the end when we had to flag them down to get the check. I don't think we'll be coming back. read more

**Overall: a solid 4.5 stars** The neighborhood was a little 'sketch', so Zona Rosa was a standout restaurant when we saw it! It was adorable even on the outside with the outdoor heaters in the patios and pretty decor. The best part was once we entered. Wow. The place was adorbs! It didn't look like it belonged on The Alameda in San Jose, but rather a downtown of a fancy city, like Los Gatos or some place down South. The ambiance was *chef's kiss*, a perfect date place! Cocktails were fun, beautifully-concocted, and tasty. The 5 taco plate was a great way to try a bunch of different proteins and flavors. My favorites were the blackened salmon taco (amazing flavor profile!), steak (so tender!), and scallops (cooked to perfection!) Our least favorite was the pork taco (too dry and too salty). We had a pre-graduation dinner for 8 people here before the 7pm ceremony at Santa Clara U on Saturday, June 13th. Keep in mind, the first FIFA World Cup match was also playing that day in Santa Clara so I knew it could be much busier than usual at 4pm. We sat outside in the back which was nice as it was still not too crowded. The food was delicious and the drinks - on a v hot day - were extremely refreshing. Came here for a private White Lotus themed murder mystery party. We had the outdoor bar area upstairs to ourselves and it fit about 15 people standing comfortably. It had a nice view, though I will say it got quite hot up there. They had pretty good drinks - I had their extra spicy margaritas, and they did not disappoint. The menu stated that it came with cheese and a poblano crema that I couldn't see on the enchiladas. I asked the server about it and I think there was some confusion because he said it didn't come with anything on top. Maybe it was on the inside of the enchiladas, but to be honest, I couldn't taste it. The menu is kind of high-end Mexican food. The specialty is the tacos, served on blue corn tortillas. I tried the salmon tacos that had a big piece of salmon with a slice of bacon and corn salsa. Everything was very fresh and went well together. My companion got the vegetarian verduras tacos which he loved. He said they were the best mushroom tacos he ever had. We got the chips and guac and the guac was decent, but the chips were amazing. They had upcharge items to add to the guac which I'd probably do next time. It was fine, just a little plain! This place is cute inside, has a nice bar. We didn't order drinks but the drink menu looked really interesting. Had Friday dinner with friends at this Mexican restaurant with an 8:15 PM reservation. They offer different seating options--front open seating, indoor, and back patio. The hostess seemed overwhelmed, constantly moving in and out without acknowledging guests, as multiple groups arrived at the same time. After being seated, it took some time for the server to arrive. We started with drinks, ordering different margaritas (hibiscus, Felicia Rose, blood orange, Francisco) along with chips and guac. The food and drinks arrived at a decent pace, but the chips were oily, and the guac portion was small and underwhelming. Drinks are good. If seated outside, it can get cold even with heaters, especially if it's windy. The server took a long time to return for our entrée order. We got Suiza and Verduras enchiladas, as well as Baja and shrimp tacos. The food was just okay--nothing particularly impressive. For dessert, we tried the chocolate bread, which had a hard exterior but was moist and flavorful inside. Overall, it was an average experience. Tried Zona Rosa in Downtown San Jose and it's definitely a solid spot for casual meetups or even a first date. The taco platter is a must-try--super flavorful and perfect for sharing if you want to sample a few things. Their drinks are really refreshing too, especially the horchata, which was creamy, light, and not overly sweet. The nachos were good, but the chips were extra crunchy... like "proceed with caution if you value your gums" crunchy. The service is quick and the staff are really friendly. I just hope they add another rest room bec they only 1 all gender bathroom for the whole restaurant. Parking can be a bit of a challenge during peak hours in downtown, so plan a little extra time to find a spot. But once you're inside, the vibe makes up for it. They have these cute, semi-private booths that make it great for catch-ups with friends or even a first date where you can actually talk without shouting across the table. Overall, would definitely recommend if you're looking for a fun Mexican spot in downtown SJ. read more

Tried this place for the first time for date night and it exceeded all expectations. We started with a complementary trio of salsas with fresh chips and were taken aback by the smoked cashew salsa especially. So different and so good! The margaritas are outstanding. I got the Perfect Margarita and it was appropriately named. The main event: the enchiladas suiza. They tasted authentic, the tortillas were fresh, the chicken was juicy, and the creamy poblano sauce was so comforting. The only thing I would change would be to add a spicy pepper to that sauce to bring up that poblano flavor profile. It was a little muted but still delicious. Our server was a delightful lady who asked us about our experience and asked for feedback, which was really thoughtful. She was knowledgeable about the menu items and had genuine interest in our experience and that definitely left a lasting impression. Of note: I was also impressed with their tequila selection. Let me start by saying, this review is certainly mixed. Will break it down into each main Yelp review portions: Starting with the ambiance. 5 stars all around. The interior of the restaurant is somewhat small (space as well as ceiling height), but feels cozy and welcoming instead of actually small. Simple but fresh decor. The back patio space is so nice, and a different vibe! Think: winery outdoor wedding style -- fresh flower decor, bistro lights, nice tables and chairs.. very fun and perfect for a slightly upscale family reunion or celebration. Where things went a bit awry was on the service.. after we were seated, our waiter took our order very quickly. Guac and chips came out within minutes, which we happily enjoyed. And then.. 15 minutes passed.. 30 minutes passed.. at that point, we flagged down our waiter (who had not checked in on us at all the entire time even though he had served neighboring tables). He said he would check on our order, but made no apologies or even acknowledged how long we had been waiting. Another 15 minutes go by.. he again comes to serve other tables but did not update us. We flagged down another waiter to check on our order, who was much more responsive and assured us he'd make sure we'd get our food soon. By the time we hit a full hour of waiting, we had to leave for another appointment so told them to pack our food up if it was ready, or cancel if it's not even made yet. It was ready. Our original waiter came to check us out. He very nicely gave us a good discount on our check, but honestly, I would've preferred to have just gotten it on time and eaten it there. Okay, now with that out of the way.. the food.. I would say solid 4 stars here! - Guac & chips: Yes, it is expensive. But yes, I will definitely be ordering this every time. The Guac is just how like it, plain avocados with seasoning, no tomatoes or any extra garnishes. And the chips!! Yum!! Hefty and solid corn taste. Very good. - Salmon tacos: blackened grilled salmon. Very good, but not incredible. Salmon perhaps a touch overcooked, but taco flavors melded pretty well overall. - Chimichurri steak tacos: I liked this one. Steak also a touch overcooked for me, but pretty good still. Sauce & toppings were great. - Pollo al pastor tacos: I found myself wishing it was more traditional pork al pastor. Likely won't order it again, but was good to try. - Butternut squash quesadilla: yummy, but the squash was a bit sweet. Ended up adding some of the steak from the tacos for a more savory meal flavor. TLDR: great ambience, and good food, but service can be mixed, and the kitchen can get extremely backed up if busy. Be prepared to wait for 1+ hrs for food on a busy night! read more
