We set outside which was preferable as the weather was nice and inside it was extremely noisy, the acoustics isn't great inside. We ordered the guac and chips with the pistachios and bacon, not sure what the hype was all about. The chips while made there weren't very flavorful and the guac was very plain, I make a better one at home. The bacon was too salty and the pistachios didn't really make any difference. The ceviche tostada was wonderful, very zesty and fresh. We shared 5 different kinds of tacos. I loved that it was street tacos and we could both enjoy it. I had the shrimp with sauce which was spicy but that's about it. The chimmichuri steak was bland. The blackened salmon was the only saving grace though could use a little more salt. In general, the food could use a little more salt, and I'm not even a person who enjoys salty foods. We ended up $100 for 2 people including tip. The portions were fine and none of us ended up hungry but I expected more from a $100 meal. The server shouldn't even wait to bring water to the table and just bring it even if we didn't ask. For a while, Zona Rosa was one of my favorite restaurants, the food was delicious, it was a great deal, and the portions were big. Unfortunately inflation and the economy has changed the prices and food sizes, but at least it still tastes good. Some of my favorites here over the years have been the salmon tacos, Esquites, Enchiladas De Camarone and suizas, and the bacon guac. I used to not bat an eye and order whatever I wanted, but now I do have to think a little bit more so that the bill doesn't get too high. This location has a super cute front patio, it's bright, light, and airy, transporting you out of San Jose and right to a vacation mode. Even though it's on a pretty busy road, the traffic isn't usually distracting. Parking in the area can be hard, there's a couple paralele spots and then it's all neighborhood parking on the side of the street with the restaurant. Still one of our favorite restaurants, even though we don't eat out as much as we used to. We came here on Father's Day with a friend visiting from out of town. They have seating out front inside and in the back, but the place was pretty full. Nonetheless, we were seated quickly as we had a reservation. It is a good idea to call ahead and make one. The prices are high, but hopefully all their people are making a good living and the portions are enough for our appetites at least. I had the shrimp enchiladas, and my wife had the vegetarian tacos with a side order of scrambled eggs. There was nearly a mixup as the waiter thought we wanted to order an egg taco and that's considerably more expensive but we got it straightened out with the maitre D. **Overall: a solid 4.5 stars** The neighborhood was a little 'sketch', so Zona Rosa was a standout restaurant when we saw it! It was adorable even on the outside with the outdoor heaters in the patios and pretty decor. The best part was once we entered. Wow. The place was adorbs! Came here for lunch with a few coworkers and we left not feeling impressed. The food portions were smaller than we expected and it didn't really taste that good, not to mention the price for what you get isn't really worth it. It was very loud inside as I think they were making pico and using the multipurpose chopper. It got so loud at one point that we couldn't even talk with each other without having to practically scream. The decoration is beautiful though and feels like you're at a Mexican mom's fancy kitchen. Service was not good at all. We had to wait over 15 minutes to get our order taken and then we watched our food stand on the counter top for another 5 minutes. I don't usually leave negative reviews unless the experience is genuinely poor. I visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening with my mother. We arrived at approximately 8:26 p.m. When we checked in, I specifically requested to be seated indoors. The host, a young man, informed us that the wait would be approximately 10-15 minutes. When our table was ready, however, we were seated outside despite my clear request to sit inside. Throughout this time, there appeared to be an available table indoors. Our server, Mariana, was courteous and attentive, greeting us within two minutes of being seated. We placed our appetizer order at approximately 8:29 p.m., but did not receive it until around 9:00 p.m., resulting in a wait of roughly 30 minutes. To Mariana's credit, she communicated that there was a delay in the kitchen and kept us informed. However, our main entrées did not arrive until approximately 9:27 p.m. I remained patient and understanding throughout the evening. Having worked as both a server and bartender during my undergraduate studies, I understand that delays can happen. Nevertheless, the length of the wait was excessive, particularly given the apparent lack of managerial intervention. The manager on duty appeared to be walking the floor but did not seem to address the situation or assist in resolving service delays. Overall, while our server provided professional service under difficult circumstances, the restaurant's seating management and food service times fell well below expectations. read more
