The Dive Shop, from the COO down, exemplifies the most disappointing and unprofessional trends in the dive industry. The upside for the owner and shop is that it appears they have so many customers they have zero obligation or motivation to care or fulfill promises. -- I spoke with the owner, Randy Wright, about six advanced courses I planned to complete. Randy said he was just on a call with the Director of SSI Training, who Randy would call back. Randy stated he would get answers to my questions and "call me right back." Five days and counting, no call back. -- Online, a week in advance, I scheduled and paid for an Advanced Wreck course. The day prior to the course I called to inquire if it was only going to be classroom of if we would be in the pool as well. The employee informed me that no instructor was available and the class would not be held. No one was planning to call and warn me before my one-hour drive to the shop and there was no offer of a refund! -- I've experienced the same lack of service is at both the Memphis and Marietta shops -- which seems to reflect the experience I had with the owner. If I blew off clients and did not keep promises, I wouldn't have a business left. So good on The Dive Shop for creating a model where me as a customer is undeserving of promised service. For such a land-locked city Atlanta has a lot of divers and anyone who is looking for diving equipment or a place to certify need look no further than The Dive Shop on Sandy Plains just North of the Piedmont intersection. The owner Mike is a true diving pro and him and the rest of the staff really know their stuff. They stock only the best equipment and are open until 7pm Monday-Saturday, which made it very convenient to certify. John was mine and my husband's instructor and he is just great! He dives every chance he gets and you can tell when talking with him how much he really loves it. As he teaches, the most important thing is to have fun and take your time! There's no rush and tht helped me more than anything, being a natural rusher :). The certification program is SSI, which is one of the more complete programs and while we will be finishing our open water dives away from The Dive Shop in Florida, we spend time practicing in their pool there in Marietta and always feel welcome and encouraged to practice whenever we want. PS - Alton Brown certified here recently and was diving with us one day. My sister always asks me why I don't say anything to him, but generally nothing really comes up and "hey man, like your show," never seems applicable, hence we don't have a lot of conversations. My nephew and his daughter go to the same school and from time-to-time we are at events where he is there, but again nothing really comes up. One of these days :)! read more

I was looking for a new shop for continuing dice education. I've gone in twice to talk to The Dive Shop staff. The owner is not friendly at all and both times it seemed like me coming in to ask about the shop bothered him. They have a decent sized shop with a good product selection and a classroom area. Their pool however looks very dirty and the pool deck cluttered and not well. I will be continuing my search for a shop for continuing training. read more

This was such a great experience! We had a groupon and used it to check the place out. The staff was great and the instructor (Robert) was amazing. He was respectful, knowledgeable, patient and skilled. The facilities and ambiance were ideal for the experience. We will be looking into more lessons here to prepare for a future scuba trip. i recently signed my wife and son up for scuba diving lessons at the dive shop in Marietta there aren't enough words to describe how awesome the dive shop is.from the moment we arrived to this site to the certification for open scuba diving the staff at the dive shop is not the best they are the greatest i have ever dealt with. The staff really does care about customer service which you do not see now days. We visited a couple other shops that deal with scuba diving and these shops need to take lessons from the dive shop. So if you are looking to get scuba diving certified please do give the dive shop a visit before or after you check other shops and you will not be disappointed. read more

My Daughter and I visited months ago to gather information. The fellow at that time was most helpful, courteous and informative. Recently I called to please my over zealous daughter, with the intent to move forward and get us signed up. The new person on the line was informative but strangely pushy and underhanded. He encouraged me to meet after hours to sign up and pay for his class. The odd thing was he asked me if it would be problematic for me to pay in cash. He offered some story about why he couldn't take the credit card I was thinking of using as he was giving us a really good rate. As it seemed seedy I opted to go to a location that offered a bit more integrity. I exchanged emails with a fellow claiming to be the owner and he defended his staff, with vows to correct ills but as of this writing the offending individual is still employed. I am unsure if these side deals are recognized by the management but in a training establishment we would have to have complete faith in that instruction. Not only did my instructor know his stuff but he was also caring and had a great ability and presenting his knowledge in such a way that anyone would be able to understand. I went in for a SCUBA refresher and the process took 3 1/2 hours when the actual instruction time was only about 2 hours and was unprofessional. The instructor was not ready for me when I arrived so the instruction started very late. The instructor kept interrupting discussions during the classroom session to see who was coming in the door (there were people there to assist other customers), would stop instruction in the classroom and while we were in the pool to check his personal cell phone, and was generally condescending to me. The final straw was when the instructor (a man) made an extremely inappropriate comment about a how a pair of my body parts reacted to the cold water (I'm female). From my customer service and client experience, making sexual comments to a client is NEVER appropriate. Throughout the instruction he was also trying to sell me stuff. "Hold on, let me get you a different pair of goggles to try..." On top of trying to sell me things I didn't need, he would interrupt instruction and get out if the pool to get equipment when there is NOTHING wrong with my equipment. I won't go back and won't buy anything from them. read more

Mike Van Hosen is an Alien. Not only does he know ALL about ALL types of gear but he remembers what you own, what is due for service and what's on your wish list at a drop of a dime. If he doesn't have it, he'll get it for you. Even if there's some interesting reason he doesn't carry it. I don't even remember how many times Mike and his staff have gone out of their way to make sure I had a Great trip trip. Things form testing gear in their pool to quick service at the last minute. They are quick to tell you all about the new hottest and greatest as well as the old and hard to find. They even can offer input on what location you are going to go to. Mike and his staff are true pros. When ever I'm there I always tell Mike. "I hate coming out here but Always like being here" It takes some travel time for me but is well worth it and I have not got the type of service they provide. This store is waaay over priced. Swim instruction for kids is not too great. we just went once, then we found another better place. They offered a Living Social coupon, and didnt mention that we cant buy supplies if we didnt use it by a certain date. they were unfriendly when i went in to swap the coupon for some stuff instead of instruction. so my $30 just vanished, i got nothing for it. never going back. read more

Amazing customer service! I bought a mask there 5 years ago that I had trouble with leaking while snorkeling - turned out to be user error. The staff had me come back and get in the pool and helped me make that mask work. I would have bought a new one, but now I don't have to. read more

Horrible customer service. Bought a Groupon for swim lessons and had to call four times to schedule before someone finally texted me over a month later. I replied that we couldn't come at the time they offered, and she never replied again after that. I contacted the manager and he blamed the problem on their other customers (never a good sign). Ultimately, he quit returning my emails too, so I had to get my money back from Groupon. Very disappointed, as I had planned to have my kids' lessons completed by summertime. read more

I just finished my certifications in open water SCUBA with Alan, and freediving with Jon. I could not recommend them more! They were both very through, professional, and made diving awesome! They even were willing to stay late twice a week, sometimes to about midnight, to ensure we had enough time to go over everything before a trip I had planned. At first I had my apprehensions especially with freediving but they talked me through all the proper techniques and made me feel very comfortable in the water. We did my checkout dives at PennyRoyal Scuba Center in Hopkinsville Kentucky, it was amazing but so cold! We even did my skills check in a helicopter!! Jon actually even lent me his wetsuit to wear over mine with a hood because I was freezing. They really went out of their way to make me comfortable and knowledgable. You may be able to find cheaper classes out there but in the future when you are at 50ft, or deeper, underwater and something goes wrong do you really want to panic and think back to your training and say "gee I'm glad I saved money on my training?" I would much rather have confidence in myself and my equipment. I'm very glad I went the dive shop and look forward to taking more classes soon! read more

Today I had a totally bad experience at the Dive Shop. The New Manager ( that's how he referred to himself repeatedly) was rude and condescending from the time I entered the shop. On 2 FEB I dropped off my regulators for service and paid the mandatory $190 up front. On the 16th of Feb I received a call that there would be an additional cost of $90 for parts and labor. I complained to the caller what was the $190 for. Answer to look them over. Today I went in to pick them up and the additional cost was $190. I was upset and wanted to know why. The young purple haired manager says I get it you are mad we are bad people. I wanted to know why I wasn't told up front about these additional charges. Again he said we are bad people and you owe $190 more dollars. My regulators were held hostage. I was not offered the option to trade up instead of repairing the ones I dropped off. This shop just lost my business and all my dive buddies . Facebook will help spread the word this shop uses unfair business practices. read more

these guys are bs... i signed up for a class and to get open water certified. the class was 349 and then they tried to get me to spring another 549 on gear... well this is what most people that use us buy... mind you i had never been in the water so it is hard to know the difference in the 259 package versus the 549 package. i decided to go with some scuba equipment from another retailer- diver supply- they have a location in atlanta and another one in macon- macons shop was the worlds largest and the customer service was absolutely delightful. they explained the benefits of the different products and i got all set up for 279 bucks and some high quality equipment. after all of this i started my classes at the dive shop in marietta. first class was great. we were scubaing and learned the basics but this is where it gets interesting. after all of this i am excited and ready to get going full speed into scuba until i get the dreaded email from the dive shop. if you buy your equipment elsewhere it takes the 349 class all the way up to 799. ha. so you get me started and then you drop the hammer. hey sorry about all that we need some more money from you. after talking to them on the phone they said it was a safety issue. safety issue! let me tell you about a safety issue... when i was on the bottom of the pool with gear from another shop my safety was not a concern but all of a sudden when they feel the need to dip back into my wallet the term safety issue comes into play. absolute joke. mark- the owner is a clown. worst service i have ever received in my life. read more
