This store has alot of good items but Ive found the staff to always be on the lazy side..Anytime you ask them a question they are always chatting with each other or its kinda like your interrupting them when they are chatting. The only exception are the people who work at the service desk that leads too the back.They are the total reverse going out of their way for you.I appreciate those older professionals.. I just ask that keep you focus on providing the best customer service you can even if it means the customer comes first. This Dixie line is full and pact with items that I need all the time I love there prices and customer service is always great quality. I love going there for tool parts and bits I need for work, one for the better place in my opinion. I love there clearance selection. They have a lot of good deals over there and is my one stop shop to go there and pick up a gas items once a week. I don't recommend this store if having to purchase lumber. The inside staff members are very professional and helpful. On the other hand one of outside staff is very disrespectful and rude. I purchased my order at 5pm keep in mind the store closes at 6pm. Bobby received the order and since he wanted to go home early was rude and complaining to coming the next day in morning with was he was very disappointed and disrespectful screaming and making rude comments and to top it off he made his partner do all the heaving lifting while he just complained Arman, he was the opposite of Bobby and was working hard and helping on loading onto my truck and did most of the work This was a very disappointing experience, I rather take my business somewhere else. If you love to get your lumber tossed in your vehicle unprofessionally after purchasing $3,000 worth of lumber for a porch and garage project. Look no further! Just to notice one of the workers named Bobby b*thing and complaining it's too much work. He started barking orders to his colleague Arman. Shout out to Arman for atleast providing exceptional customer service. However, Bobby was throwing tantrums left and right. Bobby was very unprofessional and lacked customer service skills. He was very rude and disrespectful and he would throw bad moldy crooked wood until we noticed it and asked for a better quality lumber and then he would b*tch and complain more and kept looking at his watch because it looked like he didn't want to be there and was looking to get off work ASAP. The store doesn't even close for another hour and some I bet if he was to spend $3,000 on wood, he would expect a high level of quality wood and customer service. 100% This was the worst experience me and my family ever experienced. Tip for thought: Got some lumber projects?? It's better to bring your business elsewhere because there's no such thing as customer service here. I stopped by here to pick up some tree stakes, not "steaks," but wooden or plastic stakes to help young trees stand up against strong winds or the weight of their on branches or fruit. I walked around the place looking for them, but for the life if me, I could not find them anywhere. So I gave up, and went to their help center. It turns out that they did not carry the ones I was looking for, except for some 8 foot monsters, that were a little out of the league of my trees. Went in to just buy 4 cedar fence boards and a can of stain. It took almost an hour. We went to paint they were mixing the stain, then to the wood desk to order the wood. This guy wanted us to bring the stain to him to checkout instead of giving us the paper with the Wood order on it, so we could pay at check out. Like they always do. We returned with the stain and now had to wait in a long lumber contractor line while the check out line was empty. The only reason we went here was for the lumber yard. I hate this place. read more

Had a great experience there today. Came in around 2:30 with a vague idea of how I wanted to build a fence using a more artistic sideways board configuration. Problem is, I didn't know what materials were available or what was stocked, so there was no real way to have a cut or lumber list first. So, went back to the lumber counter where I was met by Vivian. She patiently went through potential materials, stack up sizing, wiggling around the counts to aesthetically match up properly and then having a custom cut arranged to accommodate a size that wasn't stocked. At which point she sent me out to the lumber floor with my completed ticket and I realized that it was three o-clock and the guys were about to be off for the day. Instead of telling me that I was too late and come back tomorrow, Ray, Melvin (and another guy who's name has slipped my mind) bent over backwards to help me select, cut and load the pieces so I could pick them up. You don't get this kind of service at other lumber yards, where mostly people wander around telling you that this isn't their department. Two thumbs up, keep up the great work!!! read more

When I am looking for building material or hardware this is definately the place to go! The service is almost always great, unfortunately others agree and the store can be busy at times. But if you need help, just grab a number and they will get with you. The people on the floor are very helpful. They know their product. The sales counter is great. They can answer just about any question. If they don't know the answer they will find someone who does. The icing on the cake is not having to push a big cart through the store, load it up and then load my truck. Just pull up next to the product and they will load the material for you. Skip the "big orange box" and go where service is still valued. read more

I think when a business goes above and beyond for someone that people should know. I had such an experience at Dixieline Lumber Company today. I had a cabinet made by another company. I measured wrong and needed it made shorter. I know that Dixieline in El Cajon has a millworks department since I had used them before with excellent results. In a short while, efficiently, and at no cost, the person working in millworks solved my problem by neatly sawing off the proper amont. Located in a great location near downtown El Cajon. Their paint mattress did an excellent job making the exact colors paint that I needed for my condo. I also get all of my keys made here in a bottle light bulbs for my home here. They always have a very good stock of everything and the one time they didn't have what I needed the guy got on the phone and found it for me immediately. I'm done with Dixieline! NEVER purchase Lumber from Dixieline they will rip you off! I called first, they gave me a price on 4X14 Beams just slightly lower than La Mesa Lumber over the phone, but when we arrived the prices were suddenly much higher than the phone quote, but it gets much much worse so keep reading. We purchased three 4X14 beams at their newly inflated price, AND I also added 40 2X4's and other misc. 2X6's & 2X8's. I had previously checked both Home Depot and Lowes prices and I knew it would be more at Dixieline, but I wanted to give them a shot thinking the wood was better quality even though it was $100+ MORE COST than comparable to Home Depot or Lowes. NOT, the wood is WORSE! I later purchased more wet wood from Lowes, and Home Depot, and while none of them has very good quality, the wood I got from Lowes & Home Depot was not any worse, in fact it was a little bit better and a WHOLE LOT CHEAPER! This is NOTHING compared to what came next. Dixieline pulled all the wood themselves, the 4X14 Beams were so warped & twisted NOBODY COULD EVER HOPE TO USE THEM! We didn't see how bad the wood was because they loaded it on our truck with the forklift when we had already paid $700 for all of it. The next day I had to borrow the truck again and bring the wood back, Dixieline said if I wanted straight smooth beams it was going to cost me a little more, OK whatever, at this point just get it done. One beam was $133, so a little more to me would be like $150 or so RIGHT? NOPE! They charged me almost DOUBLE THE PRICE!! WORSE, the beam was not much better than the one it replaced, now instead of a severe twist, it just had a bow. We are talking huge 4X14X20' beams here, there is no way to straighten these. SO, a little bit more than $133, they charged me $405.14!!! FOR JUST 1 WOOD BEAM! I am unable to return it because it was a special order! It gets WORSE! After close scrutiny of their invoices, I find all sorts of misc. BS charges such as: Lumber Assessment FEE...... $6.34 RESAWN MILLING FEE........$25.00 Then again the fees charged a 2nd time on the new invoices for wood which is suppose to be replacing the first KRAP they gave us: Lumber Assessment FEE...... $6.34 (again) .... ALL DOWN THE DRAIN FOR NOTHING! To add salt in my injuries, I called Lowes a week later only to find out they could have special ordered the beams for me there and their prices were: $98 for one and only $122 for the other!! Morale of this story: DO NOT BUY LUMBER FROM DIXIELINE EVER! I will never buy anything ever again as long as I live from ANY Dixieline, and now I hope Home Depot and Lowes BOTH Put Dixieline OUT OF BUSINESS! read more

I like this place because it's not run like a Home Depot and because they are willing to cut lumber for you and do not give you lame excuses about why they cannot make cuts for you. I've been to Home Depot where they never like to cut lumber and always say their machine is down to get out of it. Dixieline to the rescue! I go here first and don't mind paying extra if necessary. You don't have a hundred people bothering you while you shop, they let you find what you want and don't harass you. It's funny how at Home Depot they harass you but when you actually need help you can't find anyone to help you and you have to walk across that huge store to the front counter and then walk back. My wife did me a favor, since she was out and about in El Cajon. I asked her if she could go to dixieline and pick up two bags of silica sand. One #30 Grit, and one #60 Grit. And you know how dixieline works, you pay for everything, then you get in your car, drive around to their overhead storage facility, give your receipt to the guy in the back, and then he loads it into your trunk. My wife never looked at what they put in the trunk. She assumed that hey put in the right material. When she arrives home, in my trunk, the #30 Grit was substituted with mortar sand for mixing with cement. Then she had to go return it. The guy at the counter said "we don't have #30 Grit silica sand, that's why I gave you regular sand." He never asked if it was okay to substitute the two types of sand, dixieline should be real careful substituting sands, especially silica and regular sand. The difference is life or death. Breathing silica sand can kill you. On top of that, the guy charged us for the silica sand and gave us cement mixing sand, which is a cheaper sand. I am really disappointed, because I live in far East county, and I have to drive all the way back into El Cajon, to return it, just to find that they're out of it, and they should have told me that in the beginning. When my wife returned it, they acted like they could care less, like it was no bother to them, almost as if this is business as usual. I recommend that you do not go to dixieline, it is a horrible place, and it takes too long to get stuff into your vehicle. You can't just buy stuff and put it in yourself. On top of that, you have to watch them to make sure you get what you pay for. read more

I contacted Dixieline to get Milgard windows...thousands of dollars worth of windows. I gave them my measurements and they gave me a preliminary quote but said they would have to send their window contractor out to get a final quote. It took a few days for their contractor to call and we played phone tag for nearly a week. It would take a day or two to get a call back from him. We finally connected and we set an appointment roughly a week later on a Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. 3:00 pm came and went and the contractor did not show so I called him and left a message. About a half hour later he called back and said he could not make it and then wanted to schedule on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I then called Dixiline and they said it shouldn't happen like that but that he is their only window installer and had no other options. I recommend you take your business elsewhere because there is no sense of urgency or consideration for their customers. read more
