I visited DIY not long after they opened, so they might've improved since. This is based on the time I visited. I was excited to see Fremont having boba (finally). Typically I can only get drinks from Dreamy Drinks during the Sunday market, but I've been waiting to see the roster adding up! Well... before you get excited, hold tight to your wallet for just a sec. I was disappointed by what I ordered and I picked the most basic milk tea possible. I don't know what it was... it just tasted so cheap. I couldn't even finish the whole thing. I tried the taro one that my boyfriend ordered too. And I'm one of those weird ones who prefer artificial taro vs. real taro. But even this artificial one tasted bad. The only thing I liked was the packaging... Boba is such a subjective thing sometimes and it's so hard to determine what's good and what's not. For me, I like to see both the creaminess of the milk and the fragrance of the tea come together. Ordering the most basic item is a good way to determine the craft on a store. DIY was such a miss for me unfortunately. read more

Service is spectacular here, but I wouldn't really consider this place "DIY" since you just choose your sweetness and toppings in terms of customizations but other than that you're just choosing from a vast menu. Another cool thing is that they do sampling, but the drinks are really subpar. I got the Ube creama milk tea with pudding which was definitely good but I would check out coffeeholic for their Ube or maybe another boba place near university district. read more

I stopped by DIY Tea Lab on a sleepy Sunday night when there weren't many people inside. The space is clean and modern. Ordering is done via ipad-ish device. Parking will definitely get harder once life gets busier and the sun comes out. They share space with Just Poke which had some pretty delicious looking musubi that I will try one day. I had a new addition to the menu, Joanna's Rose Elixir. If Rose-flavored anything is an option anywhere, I will order it. In fact, I chose DIY Tea Lab because I saw this on their menu. I added salted ube crema and it did not disappoint. It's sparkly with just the right amount of rose flavor. I did sort of miss that milky tea flavor but maybe next time I'll ask for a splash of soy or something. As it was, it tasted like the promise of summer and sun and all good things. I can't wait to try other flavors on the menu. Parking is probably easiest in the paid lot to east of the shop. There is limited street parking in front. Finally a great boba place in Fremont! Love how they allow you to place your own order on the iPad & customize your drink. You can choose your own level of sweetness, amount of ice & type of boba pearls you want. I have just tried the classic pearl milk tea which was fantastic. You can't go wrong with this one. The boba tea is affordably priced at just 5$. They have a lot of exciting milk & non-milk options which I look forward to trying in the future. This place also offers poke bowls which I have not tried yet. Highly recommend this place. read more

The menu here is huge and there are a lot of options in customizations. They also have Matchas here which is not as common as I wish it was. You can get really delicious fruit matchas as well. Ok customer service, if you like poke you can get it here too. Would return. Very good bubble matcha. read more

One of my favorite chains bubble tea place I like to go. It is definitely yummy and their items are creative. Many different drinks you can order from and add different topping as well. They even have ube topping as well. It is one of fav! Nothing much to say but I will be back soon for their drinks. read more

I love DIY Tea Lab ever since I discovered the one in Renton. So I was excited to learn that they had one in Fremont. I got my favorite drink which is the Melanie's Taroberry. I decided to try the strawberry popping boba w/ it too since I never had it before. Taking a sip of it, it didn't hit like the one at Renton does. Compared to the Renton location, it was not on par & it just wasn't that great to me. The strawberry popping boba was a wrong move too cause I did not like it as well. It's pretty disappointing that the DIY location closer to my apartment isn't that good. Because of that I end up only going to the one in Renton when i'm in the area. Not sure if it's just the specific drink that I like that isn't good at the Fremont location but if that's my go-to then I don't see myself coming here. read more

This place is pretty convenient if you want poke and a boba drink. They share a poke bowl space. We came here in hopes to build our own drink. Though they don't have a scoop your own topping bar they do have a lot of seating. The drinks were just average because it was all powder based. I got the ube cap that was so bland that just tasted like plain cream. The boba texture was missing the qq bounciness chew) of boba. The brown sugar boba had very light brown sugar walls that it tasted like we just came to buy a cup of milk. read more

You can place your order through an ipad and get a text reminder when your order is completed. I got the classic Ruby Black Milk Tea with boba/pudding and Signature Fruit Tea. I got the milk tea with 50% of sugar. I am not an expert of boba tea but I like the milk tea as it was not overwhelmingly sweet. The boba is not too soft or firm nor too sweet so does not ruin the drink itself. The signature fruit tea with regular sweetness was too sweet for me but it has a good blend of flavor that I would get again with less sweetness next time. They have other popular items that looked interesting/pretty that would come back when nearby for another drink. read more

A cute little boba spot in Fremont which shares a storefront with a poké place. It's super close to the waterfront and Fremont Troll and has a solid selection of all the basic milk teas. I got the regular milk tea and it ran a bit on the sweet side despite getting it at 50%. Overall, it was enough to satisfy the craving and I would come back if I was in the area! read more

I came here during their soft opening and I was so excited about them being open! I live in Seattle so making it over to the east side is a little out of the way but their drinks are sooo pretty. They are located inside Just Poké which i think is brilliant! Enjoy a bubble tea bev AND grab lunch at the same time. They enforce social distancing and follow all the government's guidelines for COVID-19 so everything is super clean and straight to the point! Order your drink in person or they do have a website to online ordering which I love! The drink menu has your traditional classic drink choices and an interesting addition of sparkling water drinks which are unique. So Yummy! The Life is Peachy was beautiful as it was delicious. Boba was perfectly chewy. Spam Misubi was also delicious. You can grab food and enjoy it by the nearby bridge/dock :) The owner is super super nice and informative and seems like he cares so much about his business. I love the original bubble tea here. It's the perfect amount of sweetness, and the texture of the boba was great. I also tried the Life is Peachy drink and enjoyed it--however, I got mango popping boba and I think I had an allergic reaction to it? My gums swelled up. It was probably me and not the drink though. I'd never had that happen before, so I was confused. I like the pricing of making every drink $5 because this allows me to try different options that I normally don't try. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the service can be pretty slow at times. Once I went in and even though we were the only people in the shop, it took 20 minutes for our order of 3 drinks to be made. There was only one online order in front of us, too. read more

Tried this place since we were in Fremont checking out the area. I would say that this place is an okay milk tea place, the boba is great and the tea is okay, but it's also not the best. When I received my tea, even though I ordered 100% sweetness it tasted like they didn't added any sugar at all (either that or it was on the bottom of the cup). I would normally just mix it myself but the lids of their cups have holes for the boba straw (as opposed to the boba , so you can't tilt the cup upside down in order to mix the sugar. In addition, by then the drink is already cold so the syrup they use to sweeten their drinks isn't as soluble. Even after asking for more sugar, they don't really mix their drinks, however the sugar level was a bit better. Their tea isn't bad either, I just wish that it was stronger, as the flavor is a bit too light for me. Other things aside, they do a good job with their boba! It's chewy and it tastes like they use syrup in their boba as well. Overall, not a bad place if you want a bit cheaper boba that's decent, but good luck with mixing the sugar into your drink. read more

The parking situation has something to be left desired. Luckily the loading zone was open to be able to run in. I passed the store front a couple times unaware it shared space with Just Poke. There was no line, staff was helpful and friendly. The ordering process was quick and efficient. My brown sugar milk tea w/grass jelly was delicious. It satisfied my craving and my curiosity (I've been taste testing boba stores and so far DIY Tea Lab is my top 3). read more

Came in and had the organic matcha milk tea which was quite good. Matcha was rich and smooth. I got light ice and half sweetness which was perfect. All orders are done on a tablet in the front of the shop and orders are announced automatically and you can also choose to recieve text updates. Only downside is your wait time to order is going to entirely depend on how tech savvy the people in front of you in line are. Staff were friendly and drinks are ~$6-7+ depending on toppings which is pretty in like with other spots in the area. All in all I would definitely come back read more

This ube cream milk tea is only 5$ + tax! Not sure what the ube cream is made of, but it doesn't feel artificial or powdery. I like the milk tea base, but would prefer the option to make it with milk instead. Also the lid is spill proof! I was able to turn the drink upside down and shake it 10/10 would come back -------- Update 9/22/21 I came back and ordered a matcha fresh milk with boba (0 sugar, less ice like I usually do) and it was quite disappointing. I could barely taste the milk, like a matcha tea with a tiny splash of milk. I asked for less ice and at least 1/3 of the cup was ice :( Boba was also not sweetened or chewy enough. read more

Not bad, but not good. The staff seemed pretty clueless and didn't have very good customer service skills (for example, made me wait, poor communication, didn't understand my ask for plain tea without any syrups.) I don't blame the person making the drinks - it seemed they were the only one working and could have used some help/were frazzled. Really enjoyed passion fruit green tea with tapioca and bf enjoyed his green tea (sans flavored syrup ) but for the sake of experience and overall lack of comfort as a customer, wouldn't seek it out. read more

This place used to be a five-star in my opinion. I used to come here A LOT!!! Since when do you have to pay extra for the boba in a bubble tea? I didn't understand that now you have to pay extra for it as a "topping " Let's be honest...Boba is not a topping... since it doesn't float. There were hardly any in there , as well.The Thai tea base tasted good. I really enjoyed the flavor. However my 50% sugar tasted like almost none. I do recommend the salted cream! One of my favorite drink shops that have mango bits or strawberry bits that go so well with Matcha. They have a large menu that is very customizable and easy to read. Service was fast and friendly and everything was order in on a touchscreen. Parking was a little bit hard but it was definitely worth it! read more

Great service, brilliant packaging, and good boba - DIY Tea Lab is currently my favorite boba spot in Fremont. With clever drink names like life is peachy and let that man'go I knew I had to stop bye. I got the peach half sweet with boba. My main complaint was the drink tasted more like lemonade than peach because of the citrusy limes. Also the pea powder effect was less noticeable than I had hoped for. I would go back again but try another flavor. The amount of boba for the money was nice. Now for the good - their lid design was brilliant. There is a built in attachment to replug the straw hole (see picture).The service was great. The person ahead of me was taking forever to pay (he forgot his wallet and was waiting for his wife), so the staff asked me my order ahead and had it ready before I even paid. This location is attached to a Poke bowl place. On an impulse I got spam musubi and it was good too. The business work well together - many of the customers ordered from both when I was there. That said I do wish the lines were spaced further apart during Covid. I don't know if there are warm drinks, but if there are I'll be back in winter. This definitely is not the best boba in Seattle, but it's the best in the Fremont/Ballard area I've tried. Quick edit now that I'm done drinking, the straws should be longer. I am trying to drink the pearls at the bottom of the cup and the straw can't reach without my lip scratching the lid hole edges (it's raised). read more

As we pondered our surroundings we decide to have a drink. Two of us tried the Golden pineapple slushy with boba. I ask the woman behind the counter what's good and she recommends her favorite. I tell her I will hold her personally responsible if my taste buds go horribly wrong. Without blinking she says I will love it. I'll be the judge Ms. Little hot thing. Boom. She hits me with a brown sugar with milk tea and bobba (tip on the brown sugar - shake it like a martini first). Damn cocky boba sorcerer was right. I take a gander as I drink my magic potion. Seems they also serve food like poke bowls and musubi (yum). Very contemporary decor. You can't eat it but nice touch here; the cup is very reusable and the neat part is that lid. Where you insert the straw, the top comes with a a little plug so say you want to save the drink, just take out the straw, plug the hole and secure of no spillage My travel companions stated very much worth the money. The pineapple drink is good but not as good as the one we had in Chicago because thr one there had pineapple chunks in it automatically. Still not knocking this one though. read more

Yum! I bought a Groupon here and was so excited to use it. The tea shop is right next to a poke bar, literally in the same room - it's honestly a great place to stop by for lunch. Poke bowl at one counter, boba at the next. We got the sea salt ube milk tea, which I thought was so unique and so I had to try it, being a fan of ube. The drink did not disappoint! And for the price point and size of the cup - it was well worth it! You could definitely taste the ube when mixed, and loved that it wasn't too over the top. It blended so good with the milk tea. We adjusted the sweetness level and it was perfect. Also - they didn't over do it with the ice which I liked. The strawberry matcha - also yum. Less sweetness, mixed with the strawberry purée + syrup and was perfect. It was a refreshing combination and everything about this drink from the flavors, tea, and milk lived up to my expectations. Their service was easy and quick (self-order using the iPad) but limit the blended/smoothie options if you go in near their closing time which is 8pm. I highly recommend all boba lovers to check out this place! I'd compare their drinks being just as good as Happy Lemon - if anyone was curious :) read more

The teas are super tasty and loved how the staff was welcoming and gave an honest opinion about the drinks. We got the organic matcha milk tea with oat milk (Costco oat milk was pretty decent imo) and brown sugar milk tea. Both were very delicious. They let us try the base teas beforehand to make the choice easier. Would recommend checking this cute place out when you're in Fremont ! read more

I feel like the service has improved, and it's worth updating DIY to a 5 star. We got on a bubble tea kick during quarantine, and we have deduced that DIY is one of the best in our vicinity. The boba has been fresh and gooey, and the fact the non dairy options in some cases include almond, soy, and oat milk take it over the top. We consider this our treat since we mostly gave up desserts, and the fact I can choose 0% sugar is a big deal. I highly recommend. read more

I've been wanting to try DIY Tea Lab for awhile. Finally this dream has come true, thanks to the Yelp Elite Perk event "Snack Hour with DIY Tea Lab& Just Poke." I got a complimentary 24oz tea with up to two toppings and a spam musubi. I chose one of the popular items Sea Sult Ube Milk Tea. Toppings were grass jelly and boba. Love it! Boba was not good, tea flavor was severely lacking, and the brown sugar sweetener tasted cheap. There are many other boba places, especially around University District, that are way better than here. Harsh, but save your boba budget for a legit boba place. read more

Despite the busy night, our server checked on us regularly and was very personable, stopping to chat with us about the local sports scene. There's plenty to look at, inside and out. Not sure if this runs all the time, but when we were there, the tvs were playing vintage beer ads, which was quite fun. They also sell some pretty good t-shirt designs.
