Overstuffed lobster roll was excellent! Shrimp roll was very nice as well. My mom loved them both and she's not a big fan of seafood. Food came out pretty quickly, and we sat outdoors at the picnic tables and enjoyed the fresh air while munching on our rolls and the coleslaw. Let me tell you about this goodness! I've had great clam chowder before, BUT this bowl erased all memory of what I had previously. It was creamy, meaty, and flavorful. I can't quite explain how delicious it was. Now for the lobster roll. It, too, blew my mind. The meat was so very tender, plump and fresh. That roll itself tasted like something otherworldly. I love DJ's Clam Shack and I'm happy they have one here in St. Augustine... we frequent the location in the Florida keys. But it was such a nice and refreshing lunch to dine in upstairs as we were the only ones up there and were able to have a romantic date. Lobster Rolls is what we ordered but the mega stuffed one!!! We came specifically for the lobster roll, but also tried a few other things as well. I opted for the shrimp basket and clam chowder. Everything was well seasoned and fresh. The shrimp were large and came in great portions. We also had a Maine lobster roll and the loaded clam chowder fries. The roll was soft and buttery. You could see the entire lobster claw chunks prepared to order. It was slightly over cooked but I consider that a one-off situation. The loaded fries were just as great as the clam chowder by itself. We will be back! To make things smooth, check out the menu beforehand. The first floor has limited space. You order at the counter and may be given a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready. On the second floor they have additional seating but the majority of it is located outside with moderate shade and coverage. Depending on the time, you can also enjoy some live music. Wife wanted to try the place and finally we visited and enjoyed some lobster rolls, I got the Connecticut rolls which is the hot version with melted butter and my son had the regular lobster rolls. I also ordered the conch fritters, my wife ordered fish tacos and clam chowder. All the foods that we ordered were good, just the fries were not really crunchy though. If I'm comparing it to the rolls in Maine which we experienced a few years back these food selections are just average. But to be fair and avoid bias, they're good food. Ambiance, they have outside sittings with a treat of live entertainment. They have inside accommodation as well. The girl on the counter is as super nice and friendly, explained the food ingredients to us. The busboys were great. Even it's outside the tables are super clean. The only thing that I didn't enjoy was the table next to us, with the woman had her feet up on the chair. After watching DJ's in Key West on Triple D I knew I had to try it. I fell in love then and again while visiting St Augustine. I wasn't aware that I would have this awesome lunch opportunity while in St. Augustine. I knew I was getting the garlic Shrimp sandwich minus the bun and the coconut shrimp. Both were excellent and reminded me of my first experience with DJ's in Key West. Shrimp was cooked perfectly, flavored just enough not to overpower the fresh shrimp taste. My wife who's not a fan of seafood got her favorite order, a hotdog on a buttered New England roll. She honestly believes that DJ's hotdogs are the greatest she's ever eaten. It's all about the way the hotdog is precut before it's grilled and that buttered roll. I can't brag enough about how polite and outgoing the service was here at the St Augustine location. Everyone greeted us with smiles, was even more thrilled when we said it was our second time at a DJ's. While this location is definitely different from the Key West location, it has all the Key West vibes. I love how they incorporated the whisky barrels into the Key West theme. We definitely got a kick out of the Southern Most Point marker in the outside entrance with the correct mileage on it. Thanks for such a great lunch experience. read more

We finally visited DJ's Clam Shack at 21 Hypolita Street in downtown St. Augustine, Florida! 5 stars is not enough! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The outdoor seating area is beautiful and well maintained. What stood out to us was the wonderful customer service and good energy of the staff. Kaleb and Dana went above and beyond with exceptional service and friendliness. This restaurant is known for serving fresh seafood specialties and tacos. So much varieties of fresh garlic and coconut shrimp, with side of coleslaw, pickled onions, sweet potato fries and a conch fritters basket too and talk about fresh, and oh so delicious wow! What a beautiful job they have done on the decor as well. Check out the beatiful dining room upstairs. We went here on our recent trip to St. Augustine and I was dying to have a lobster roll after reading all of the great reviews. We stopped in mid afternoon and they were closed for some cleaning, They were very friendly and allowed us to get a drink and wait another 30 mins until they re-opened. I wasn't aware there were two types of lobster rolls (hot and cold) as I have never had one before and I have only seen the cold ones. They said the hot was more of the original so I went with that one. It was ok, of course the lobster was good but it was just lobster on a toasted bun with some butter, nothing out of this world. Being that was my first one I cant really judge in comparison. My gf had the philly and it was ok. I will try the cold lobster roll next time and see how it compares. read more

First off this commentary is my own personal experience and my own personal opinion. So disappointed. When you go to their website and see the picture of the coconut shrimp then order them when you get there, you'd swear you were in the wrong restaurant. The picture on the website looks like it's homemade when you get there and what you get is obviously something bought from some food supplier and just dropped into the fryer and thrown on a plate. It was obvious that they have cooks in the kitchen and not a chef. The difference being a chef knows how to make food a cook follows instructions on the frozen food box. I would comment on the service, but there wasn't any because you get up and you go to the window you order your food and when it's ready, you go pick it up so there is no server. There are so many other places in Saint Augustine you could go and spend $88 for two for dinner and have a much better experience. read more
