DL Macks is very good upscale bar food. We sometimes go to the location at Preston Royal, but decided to try the University Park location. It was excellent. The vibe was good and our service was great. The menu is similar to Houston's/Hillstone, with really good pizza and lots of signature cocktails. We had their spinach and artichoke dip, which was tasty (after we sent it back since it originally arrived cold). The deviled eggs were good as well. My wife got the McCarthy salad, which was quite large, savory and full of chicken. I got the salmon which was also very good and served with a healthy side of coleslaw. The wife and I returned here for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. This is a cute little place across from SMU that attracts students and the University Park/Highland Park crowd. The ambience is traditional and appealing. I like the inside because it feels homey and a place you would want to hang out. We started with a couple of beers. Unfortunately, they do not have any draft beers which is rather odd given the prominence of the bar to the rest of the restaurant. Bottles only. I dinged the restaurant for not have anything on tap. We ordered deviled eggs and they were very good. I would definitely get them again. Very tasty. The small mixed salad (enough for one, not to share) was also very good and we both really liked it. The main reason for 3 stars instead of 4 is that our pizza was not very good. We got the Chicagoan which the waiter said was his favorite. The pizza we received did not have crispy crust. Their paper thin crust is, for me, the main attraction, but the crust was not crispy in the least. Maybe they did not cook it long enough? Maybe the dough was too watery? I don't know, but it just was not good crust. It was not doughy inside which would suggest it was raw, but it just lacked the crisp that one would expect with extremely thin dough. The second thing wrong was that the pizza was unbelievably salty. Almost inedible. I am not sure what was going on with that pizza, but I would not get order it again. Met a friend for lunch, it was our first visit. Joe our waiter was friendly and helpful. We both tried a small Caesar Salad and shared the chicken parmigiana sliders. The salad was more lemony than anchovy with cornbread croutons. Delicious but my preference is a crispy crouton. The sliders came with a side of tomato sauce and crispy chicken covered with mozzarella on a soft bun. We shared the brownie and ice cream, the brownie was full of cherries and chunks of chocolate. 10/10 I cannot wait to go back. I went for a girls dinner and this place did not disappoint. Everything that we tried was so amazing. We started off with linen and drops, which were perfect. My favorite food item was definitely the Bill Murray Pizza, but the mozzarella bites were tasty as well. The cornbread croutons on the Caesar salad was a very nice touch. Definitely elevated the salad! The staff was so nice and gave great recommendations. We sat on the patio, but it was heated and so we were still able to be comfortable and watch the game. We came on a Saturday night around 8pm for a late dinner without a reservation and were able to get seated right away. The service was quick, our waiter was attentive and the food was delicious! We went here for a Friday date night and everything was great! Our waitress was incredible and was kind enough to move us from a table to a booth when we asked. She was so happy and helpful when deciding what to get. We started with the lemon drop martini and the lemon fizz. The martini was on the sweeter side while the fizz was a perfectly crisp refreshing drink. The fries were delicious and our waitress brought us every sauce to try with them! The truffle honey mustard is a must. We split the spicy rigatoni and the pizza. The hot honey on the pizza gives it that perfect kick while not being over bearing. Instructions: 1. DON'T anticipate a wait. Just make a reservation. You may also want to request seating in the main dining room instead of on the patio -- the patio doesn't really have the same vibe. 2. DON'T order the house gin martini...it nasty. On the second round, my partner upgraded to some sort of Japanese gin martini, and it was waaay better. 3. DO order the honey truffle chicken pizza. But maybe ask them to slice it like a normal pizza? IDK, or not. Just be forewarned they're gonna cut it in squares. Is that what thin-crust Chicago-style pizza is? Whatever, it's TASTY. Other Comments: The staff was awesome. I asked if they could do the Hudson House blue-and-gold martini (since they're owned by the same restaurant group), and they said they'd try...well...I ultimately just got a martini with blue cheese olives, but I saw them frantically looking up the menu first, so A for effort. Food on the menu has either changed distributors or has been taken off and service is no longer up to par. There is a nice bar which could be mistaken for a cool stand alone bar if the restaurant seating area wasn't attached... which is a compliment. Overall food we had was good, menu consists of American fare like salads, pizza, and variety of upscale sandwiches and main dishes like pasta, chicken fish, and steak. We had a Cheese Toast app, Salad, and a cheeseburger, all were good. Love this spot. Interior is what I would call elegant and sophisticated yet approachable. Nice place but has a very home style feel to it. Elevated American dishes for the most part. Bartenders are fantastic, had 2 of the spicy Mexican and they were fantastic. For food we had the Caesar, mozzarella sticks and the honey truffle chicken pizza.
