Like many others, I rely heavily on reviews when hiring contractors, and I'll admit I was slightly skeptical at first because Edgar only had a handful of reviews, even with them all being five stars. But due to a Friday night emergency leak where he was the first to respond, I took a chance, and I'm so glad I did. It's clear the second you speak with him that he knows his stuff.
During that emergency, Edgar quickly identified and explained what caused the leak. While he couldn't fix it that night, he showed me how I could still use one side of the kitchen sink in the meantime and advised me on the steps necessary to repair it properly. He gave me a reasonable quote to complete the repair, but hoping to save a bit of money, I messaged other plumbers the next morning and foolishly ended up hiring someone else who offered to do it for less. This other plumber ended up causing extra water damage to the drywall and floor, leaving me with shoddy work that Edgar eventually came back to fix properly anyway.
Soon after, we had a severe kitchen clog, and since Edgar wasn't immediately available, I had another company come out to snake and hydrojet the line. Once the clog was cleared, they ran a camera inspection and delivered the worst possible news. Our original cast iron pipes had severe channel rot, meaning the bottom of the pipes had completely corroded away, leaving wastewater to pool and flow directly over raw dirt. Since several neighbors had already warned me about this exact issue in our area, we decided to invest in the long-term fix and replace all the drain pipes for true peace of mind.
I reached out to numerous plumbers and dedicated repiping companies for quotes. Unlike most others, Edgar's quote was entirely all-inclusive, covering not just the pipework, but also the drywall and paint so I didn't have to hire separate trades. And I chose Edgar because of his strategic approach and fair pricing. Unlike the bigger operations that needed to tear out massive sections of our home just to make their job easier, Edgar was willing to tackle tricky areas from creative angles to save our floors, vanities and bathtub. By opting for a method called pipe-bursting, only the bathroom tiles needed to be replaced and the floors throughout the rest of the house were saved. On top of that, he recommended cutting into one of the bedrooms so that we could leave the kids' bathroom entirely untouched and functional. Most others said I would have to rip out the bathroom tiles, vanity, and tub. Out of all the quotes I received, only one other company suggested a method to save the bathroom tiles.
Throughout the project, Edgar was consistently on-site managing the work and was incredibly responsive through text or phone. He also showed incredible consideration for our family throughout the work. His crew kept construction dust to a minimum using zippered containment walls, added a proper clean-out, and flawlessly patched everything back up: drywall, baseboards, wall texturing, and paint. They did a spectacular job, even returning one more day just for minor touch-ups because he fully commits to a perfect finish. Edgar gave us an estimated schedule and stuck to it remarkably well, and his crew was incredibly friendly and respectful.
That said, if I have one piece of advice for future clients, it is to over-communicate about what a "livable" construction zone actually looks like, especially if you have kids. Edgar told us the home would be livable, and for adults, it would be. But I didn't fully grasp the reality of living around the "construction zone" with small children. Thankfully, he completely followed through on restoring the house to exactly how it was, but if you have young kids, save your sanity and just stay elsewhere for a few days. We're lucky to have family nearby, but knowing what I know now, I'd gladly pay for a hotel next time.
It's been a few weeks since the project wrapped up, and a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders. If you want a contractor who communicates with extreme honesty, protects your home, and stands by his craftsmanship, talk to Edgar and trust in his work.
