Came here on a Sunday around 5ish. We decided to sit at the bar since it is full service. This is my 2nd time coming here. Parking was easy - found one right on the street. There were 2 bartenders - one was super friendly (engaging with conversation, had great energy) and the other seemed a little stand offish (minimal words and not even a smile) We ordered margaritas, ceviche, guac and chips for starters. I had 3 tacos for my main entree - the fish was my favorite! If you don't want to sit at the bar, there's a line that forms to order and they give you a number once your order is ready. They have lots of seating inside, upstairs or outside. They are really fast with delivering their food. Will be coming back! read more

I have eaten here several times the past three years and it's really good. The drinks are tasty, both the alcoholic and nonalcoholic. I love the iced horchata coffee. They also have a really tasty strawberry Horchata that taste like strawberry oatmeal (and I mean that in a good way). I've also had their agua frescas and margaritas. All excellent. I've had the ceviche, nachos, queso and chips, salsa, guacamole, their bowls, burritos and tacos. Their desserts are also really good. They have this flourless chocolate cake that's tasty and the churros with the Dulce de leche sauce is really tasty as well. Came here on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't too busy. There is metered parking available; be sure to have coins. We ordered 2 carnitas bowl, pollo asado bowl, and chips and guacamole. We waited for our food in their outside dining area on the second floor. There was plenty of seating in the restaurant and outside. The outside patio has heated lamps, which was nice. Food came fairly quickly. I enjoyed my pollo asado bowl. The only thing I was wondering about was why they gave lots of gucamole, but not enough chips, lol. There was more gucamole left than chips, which is strange. The chips were fresh and wish we got more. We also got churros at the end. Highly recommend! I love how clean the restaurant is and how fast the service was. The building itself it's so pretty and I like the concept of ordering then picking out a table to sit at whether it's inside or outside. I ordered the mandarin agua fresca, margarita, chile relleno, ceviche and chips + guacamole. The mandarin agua resca was SO GOOD. I had also ordered the margarita but it tasted water down and way too much salt on the rim. I was so disappointed in the chile rellano, it really didn't have much flavor. The best dish was definitely the tuna ceviche on top of a tostada and it was also so PRETTY. It's definitely not authentic but I feel like this is definitely an alternative to healthier Mexican food. read more

This place wants to be good, they have a limited menu and I've tried most things on the menu. But always leave wanting more. The nachos are great. And margaritas are good. But everything else is kind of mid. Sadly at the last visit I accidentally left my AirPods at the restaurant and I called the next day and the person who answered the phone didn't have any info or ability to let me know if they have a lost and found or get me to manager. The bottled regular margaritas are a little strong and don't contain high grade tequila, but the other drinks are spot on. Full bar has lots of options. Vibe is very relaxed and casual. I would not recommend this spot. You order your food at the counter, and the woman taking the order must have repeated the order 3 times (each time incorrectly). I ordered for 6 people, 2 of them kids, so the kid dishes were slightly modified; but I went slow and still she had trouble. That should have been my first clue it wasn't going to be great. I was not shocked that the food came out incorrectly. I went back to the counter and was very nice, just brought to their attention that we were missing food and some of the dishes were incorrect. The order taker woman was not friendly, no apology, just stared at me blankly and said we didn't pay for the plate I was saying was missing (again, I repeated the order at least 3 times). I offered to pay for the missing item if I had not paid for it (the bill was almost $200, including the 20% tip I left at the counter). Someone else behind the counter stepped in and said they would take care of if and would not charge me. The order taker just walked away. Very rude. When the remaining food came out, the rest of my family had been long done eating. The whole experience just sucked. The food was eh. I've definitely had better Mexican food, so the food didn't even make up for the crap service. Hands down a great casual Mexican cuisine with a great vibe for a wide range of customers. Nice happy hour menu and for me the best tasting Carnitas Burrito with flour tortilla I have had in a long time. The chips and salsa were tasty too. Private room up stairs was a huge space and that's the best part. The staff were also nice but they don't take orders and all orders need to be placed downstairs at the counter next to the bar. The wine and drinks were not of good quality and the food was mediocre Mexican-ish food. A lot of cheese and heavy. The staff recommended a new dish and it was pretty bad. Stuffed bell pepper. Wouldn't take their recommendations. There was nothing but cheese and the sauce (mush) was disgusting. Barely any veggies besides the one pepper sitting at the center of the plate. Maybe one small piece of squash and zucchini. The worse part was it was heavy so I didn't want to eat more but I wasn't full. The food wasn't good enough to order more either. Would have enjoyed so much more if they have authentic food and have better wines and spirits. read more

Very tasty and flavorful but somehow still felt fresh. The meat is tender and juicy but the food isn't greasy or heavy. It's not often you see Chile Relleno en nogada in restaurants and it did not disappoint. The yams added some extra heartiness. Came on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch and really enjoyed it. Had no issue getting a table. This place is pretty big with plenty of seating - great for large groups. You order at the bar and your food/drinks are brought to your table. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with heat lamps, so even on cold days you're good to go. I ordered: - Ensalada Cesar: literally would come back just for this. I'm obsessed with caesar salads, but not everyone does them well. This one is delicious. Well dressed (in a lemony, garlicy, anchovy dressing) with croutons that are perfectly crispy and feel homemade - Queso & Chips: also enjoyed this. Good quality chips and the pickled chiles and scallions sprinkled on top were a nice touch - Pescado Tacos: liked the cabbage slaw and pickled chiles as well as the chipotle aioli. The fish was battered and nicely fried. However, I like my tortilla a bit more treated (either char it up on the grill or fry it, but do something). The hot sauce I was given had a nice flavor but it wasn't hot (i like my hot sauces to burn lol) - Mezcal Paloma (32oz): so good and well balanced! If you like mezcal, get this. Visiting town with gluten free friends and we all found something great here! Food was delicious and service was so quick. The rooftop was great for families and large groups, letting in the breeze and showcasing a piece of Oakland. My friend and I decided to try this restaurant after walking around Piedmont. Atmosphere: Very welcoming. Clean. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. They have interesting decor by the counter. Service: The staff were friendly and efficient. There was no line when I went. My friend and I got our food in a short amount of time. If you need to use the restroom, it is upstairs and a code is required. Food: We got the pescado frito burrito, pollo asado burrito, guacamole and chips, and 2 agua frescas. This was my first time ordering a fish burrito and I thought it was okay. The red sauce they provided made it taste a little better. The chicken burrito was pretty good. I would order it again. They were very generous with the guacamole and chips. There was more guacamole than I thought lol Lastly, the agua frescas were delicious. They have several interesting flavors to choose from. I recommend trying this place out if you are in the area. I think it's a great place to eat with friends and family. The food is amazing! Very fresh and flavorful. It's definitely a good vibes spot. You order at the counter, get a number, seat yourself and the food will be delivered. The ceviche is bomb! So fresh and delicious. The fish taco is very good. Light and crispy, not heavy and greasy. Chicken burrito with pinto beans was huge, filling, so flavorful and scrumptious. This place is truly a gem!! It's so hard to find nice patio seating these days, especially with heaters. The food was delicious, and there's a parking lot right next door. Doña is the real deal. The daughter of Doña Tomas the restaurant that paved the culinary path in Temescal. I can't say enough about the incredible place on Piedmont Avenue. The tacos are absolutely amazing. Carnitas is my fave but there all great. I love the green salad - ensalada de doña - with little gems, jicama carrot, watermelon radiash, avocado and pepitos, those yummy toasted pumpkin seeds, and a light but flavorful lemon vinaigrette. And then the bar is a thing. An incredibly great thing. I love the margaritas here. They have a fantastic selection if you'd like a mescal. Besides booze, there's a tangerine vanilla Agua Fresca. Always good service. I especially like the lead bartender, Jean Paul. He has an incredible program. Inspired space too. You can sit at the bar and order, drink and dine there. We had a group birthday lunch here and I ordered the dishes at the counter that the three birthday people wanted to make things smoother as we had a group of 9 and everyone else could order and pay on their own and later we would split the bill for the 3 birthday people. The birthday people had the calabaza y kale bowls (2) and 3 pescado tacos while I had the pescado bowl and the hibiscus drink. My bowl was good but no where on the menu does it say that there are red chilies included as it was a bit on the spicy side. The only clue I had was that my friend ordered the pescado tacos and they put tons of red chilies in his tacos! He picked out most of them. Other than that, it was A-OK. The other thing that happened was that we were looking for the restrooms and found out they were upstairs, but no one said you needed a combination to get into the restroom. Luckily, I knocked on the door and another customer let me in as the restrooms are all the way upstairs and the elevator wasn't working, so one of the other birthday people who has mobility issues, had to go elsewhere to use the restroom. The restaurant has plenty of room indoors and outdoors but for those who have mobility issues and the elevator being out of service was an inconvenience to those who cannot climb up the stairs. read more

Completely bland, chewy dried out chicken cooked yesterday and rice from a microwaved pouch. I could have stayed home and heated up dry dog food. read more

Doña is your Bay Area hip Mexican Restaurant. It's in piedmont so you know the vibe. They have excellent outdoor seating with great heating for chilly nights. Fully loaded bar with delicious house cocktails and of course local brews on tap. There are so many places in the bay to get great Mexican food, so if you are looking for explosive flavors this isn't your spot. The food here is fresh and definitely sensitive belly friendly. I stick with the bowls because the tacos and burritos are pretty dry and lack the flavor I desire. This place can and will get crowded but the staff does an excellent job moving the line, (all orders are placed at the counter and you are given a number) bussing tables and keeping water cups, and utensils on hand. My only gripe as far as the interior goes is that the bathroom is upstairs, outside and code locked, not ideal for someone dining alone. Doña is definitely my go to lunch spot after being Pampered at Piedmont Springs. read more

This venue is awesome because they have outdoor seating galore. They have a nice outside and indoor seating set up. They have indoor as well. This seating is the only reason I returned a second time. The first time I came here the experience was a bit odd - we entered and had no idea where to go or what to do. Now they have some signs but it's still a little confusing. Basically, you wait in line and order everything you want at the front (one and done, no open tab). They give you a number and you find a seat. The runners bring your food but that is all they'll do. Do not expect them to grab you any utensils or plates if you forget to do it or are missing one. Note that they do not have plates upstairs for some reason so you'll have to go back down if you didn't grab any on the way up. Last time, we sat downstairs and even though we were close to the line, we decided against waiting in it for another drink so we didn't spend any more money. This time was similar but we sat upstairs; without seeing the length of the line, this question was harder. We decided against it. Food is ok - Chips, salsa, queso, guac, some other staple/standard items are decent. Drinks - we had margaritas both times, they're good. They offer the standard margarita in a pitcher (not the other specialty ones). it was easier to get pitcher than make trips to line so we went with this. They'll give you as many glasses you need and a tray to carry them if you ask. read more

The food has gotten worse and the drinks remain mediocre. I got a carnitas burrito that had no sign of any cheese, arbol salsa, crema, or pico de gallo. There was maybe a small spoonful of rice, and just a few beans, but it was almost completely filled with meat. Also, the carnitas is listed as having "oregano salt", but this time it was so overpoweringly salty and oregano-y that it was almost unenjoyable. At least the queso is still good. I have been to Doña a few times now (both for takeout and dine-in) and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Oakland! To start off, the food is delicious. I usually order the Veggie Bowl and it is awesome - a nice mix of beans, salsa, kale salad, avocado, red onions, and (my favorite) butternut squash. I love the variety and each component feels like it could be homemade. The service is also very fast. My group of 5 came in at around 6pm on a Tuesday, and all of us had our meals within 15 minutes of ordering. This has been great when ordering takeout because you don't have to wait long, even if you forget to call ahead. Lastly, the upstairs outdoor patio is next level. It's on the second story, and one of the coolest outdoor dining setups I've seen. It feels very special and secluded to be up there, and provides a nice separation from the outside world (even if the main view is of the parking lot below). I've only had great experiences at Doña so far and I can't wait to go back soon! read more

Stopped by for a quick bite after visiting a friend who just had a baby at Kaiser. Ordered 3 tacos (Barbacoa, pescado, carnitas) and chips+salsa. The tacos were exactly what I look for: flavorful meat, different preparation for each, fresh flavors with each bite. What I was pleasantly surprised by was the dark salsa that came with the chips! Deep smoky flavor from arbol, ancho, tomatoes, and a few other ingredients I couldn't place. The salsa added an extra dimension to the tacos that made the meal even better. Attentive service and relaxed vibes made this a great meal! I'll have to stop by again soon. read more
