This review is SUPER overdue, but I keep finding myself recommending Doar Bros to so many people who plan to be in Charleston (and I live in DC). What a fantastic experience. My boyfriend and I both are in the industry and this is one of the best bars we've been to, and surely one of our favorites. The cocktails are thoughtful and clearly made with care and attention. But the cocktails are just one part of the equation. The guys (I say guys because while we were there we dealt with pear *totally not how you spell his name but I can't figure out how to spell it- please forgive me!*, and our bartender who's name slips my mind, BUT they were/are great. Very personable, chatty, and talented. They cultivate an awesome environment for the restaurant goers, and somehow just make you feel like you're meant to be there even if it's just for a nightcap. It's hard to encompass my appreciation for our experience at Doar Bros. We had an amazing experience at Doar Bros, kind of by accident! We stayed at The Ryder Hotel, which is next door to Doar Bros. We stopped in for happy hour since our dinner reservation wasn't until 9pm. We had to leave our phone number and come back after about an hour wait, but it was definitely worth it! The cocktails were the best ones we've ever had period. The charcuterie board was unreal - my husband who hates cheese and olives was gladly eating them plain. The inside of the restaurant is small but very high end. The prices for the drinks were actually more reasonable than most of the restaurants/bars in that area. Visiting Charleston one of my favorite beach spots for Labor Day and in desperate need of some sun kisses. While walking around in COVID world, the normal places that I've experienced in the past felt weird and different. Decided to kill this mood/vibe with some drinks and I'm a fan of artisan drinks. After using my trusty Yelp came upon DB and it's exactly what the doctor ordered and by the way they take reservations (you can thank me later). Not the biggest location but I love the intimacy & privacy. We were far enough to social distance but close enough to meet some amazing people. A GB Packer fan and awesome couple who bought our first round which we eventually paid it forward. Drinks were freaking good and the cheese/cracker/nuts appetizer was fantastic. Literally there is nothing you won't like in DB. DB will definitely be on my return list but note in the evening book a reservation. On one visit I tried a newer drink they were working on, but it came out horribly sweet. It is a compact space put to excellent use. It's got a mid century southern flair that feels inviting & cozy. A real gem. The bar is the focal point as you enter with an array of beverages stacked beautifully behind the counter. It is very chic & trendy in here with a beautiful bar top stocked with accoutrements for the cocktail of your life. The staff were very friendly helpful and knowledgeable about their cocktails. Tourist traps all around and that awful Hyman's Seafood line and smell generally makes you want to cross the street before you get there. However! IF you fight through all the crap and find their door (Doar) you will be rewarded with amazing drinks and light fare to eat as well. (Some not so light, that mac and cheese is incredible!) I'm still working my way through the menu and will be back to sample some more. But everything I've had so far has been wonderful. Our server was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the spirits and the light snacks. I am obsessed with a small bag of popcorn they offered and wish I could replicate it. Cheesy and delicious! I have become fond of Manhattans and they made one with bone marrow. How to explain this... it added depth but there was no overt "broth" flavor. Absolutely genius. I ordered a specific drink and was told they can't give me another drink in good conscience to protect there staff. I had two beers at lunch at 12:30 to 1:30.
