When I arrived at my accommodations in Ft. Lauderdale, the proprietor's suggested that Doc B's would be a great place to have a birthday dinner, after a long day of traveling. I could have gone into this with unreasonable expectations, but I wanted to give it the old college try. It's in the same shopping center as the Fresh Market, so that was a big bonus for me. Parking was easy. The host acknowledged me as soon as I walked into the door. I just couldn't hear him. It was very loud in there. Even though they were very busy I was seated quickly. I did appreciate that. It wasn't too long before Chad arrived to get my drink order. I started with water, but ordered a strawberry daiquiri as soon as they told me they could make one. It was my birthday, so why not. It was OK. It wasn't as good as the one's I get in Cancun or Cozumel. It wasn't worth $15 either. I knew what I wanted to eat, but had to wait until after the drink arrived to order. I was starved. I asked if they had bread, they brought me two toasted buns. It did the job to hold me over until my meal arrived. But it seemed quite strange that bread wasn't something typically offered. Chad was very kind and was quite pleasant. I ordered the 6oz filet mignon medium and mashed potatoes. Side salads aren't available here, either. The food runner soon dropped off my plate and was gone in a flash. I looked at my plate and did not see mashed potatoes. I looked around to see if anyone was around. No one would make eye contact. I waited until Chad came back to ask. And to be fair, he got the mashed potatoes quickly. And the food was quite good. Not the fried potato wedges, but the steak and mashed potatoes were worth every penny. I thought about dessert, but I never got a dessert menu. I could have been persuaded. It was my birthday, I was there to celebrate. So I settled for the check, and found birthday cupcakes in my room when I returned. I had never heard of Doc B's before tonight. I had no preconceived notion of what to expect. You may be more familiar with it and have different expectations. I left with a mixture of regret and disappointment. I was very happy that I had stopped into Fresh Market prior to dinner. As long as you are ok with a loud atmosphere devoid of fresh bread and side salads, you'll be ok. The food I ordered was good. And my server was charming. It just took a while. I was surprised that no managers could be seen in the dining room. And on a Saturday night, too. My friend and I visited for brunch and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. After waiting for some time, an employee who was not our server came over to take our order, and another staff member brought our drinks and food. Our actual server only checked on us once during the entire meal. We ran out of water and, after being unable to get anyone's attention, I had to go from my table to the kitchen myself to ask for refills. At one point, our server walked around to other tables with a pitcher of water and skipped ours entirely. We also wanted to order another round of drinks, but since our server never returned, we again left our table went directly to the bar ourselves. When our food arrived, we were not given silverware and had to ask get up from our table again and ask the hostess for it. The manager eventually came over and explained that they were "really busy" and mentioned that she would "take care of us," but nothing was ever done. The only time our server returned to the table was to drop off the bill, which was not adjusted in any way. What was most disappointing was not simply the lack of service, but the fact that both the server and manager were clearly aware of our experience and never offered a genuine apology or showed much concern beyond saying they were busy. I understand that restaurants can get overwhelmed, but the complete lack of attentiveness and follow-through made for a very poor dining experience. read more

This was my first visit to Doc B's. Service and food were overall just OK. Our server was helpful with the menu and brought extra hot sauces, but it was difficult to have a drink refilled. Regarding the food, a friend liked her waffle and the shrimp bowl had good flavor with a nice portion, but the green beans should've been cut to a smaller size. Everything else was bite-sized so you shouldn't need a knife for just one ingredient. For the price of the omelette, I was surprised at the size that came out. They also made it where they added the ingredients midway through cooking so they were just rolled up in the middle, instead of being mixed in with the eggs--so a lot of the ingredients fell off the fork as you eat. Ironically, the best part of my meal was the crispy breakfast potatoes. We'll likely come back and try their dinner menu, but will also likely go elsewhere for brunch next time. read more

I ate once here but the Coral Gables location years ago and I was with a group of people so i suggested Doc B's. I felt the menu was diverse enough to offer everybody good options. We almost didn't order the shrimp cocktail appetizer but I'm glad we did bc we devoured it in seconds, so fresh. For my entree i got the Chimichurri Steak with crispy jalapeño potatoes and WOW, I even offered a bite to my mom and she was pleasantly surprised. Great flavor throughout. For dessert, I got the limited time pumpkin pie and i was grateful for the portion size because I even took some home with me for later! We didn't make reservations but we were able to be sat right away on a Sunday afternoon. Our server was attentive and always made sure we had water refills. Overall, great experience and I'd definitely go back to try some other items on the menu! read more

Popped into Doc B's for lunch and was very impressed. It's a chain but very well put together. The layout is user friendly with a nice bar situated upon entering. I slid into a comfy two top and immediately ordered the candied bacon appetizer. Wow! Crispy and sweet. A nice portion too. Along with my sweet tea I got the lunch special: a knuckle sandwich aka lobster roll. With a side of yummy jalapeño potatoes. The roll was awesome (a bit too much arugula which I ditched) on the perfect lobster roll bun. A bountiful meal served by a very sweet and lovely server, whose name I didn't get. We have had Doc B's on our list forever. When my husband suggested that we go there for our anniversary, I jumped at it. One of the bad things about having something on your mind for a while is that sometimes it doesn't live up to your expectations, even if everything is done well. Well, that was not the case. We had an amazing time! My husband even mentioned that he has wished that we had gone here for his birthday, that the atmosphere was what he had expected from a different place we had on our list for a long time. We walked in at 6:15 for a 6:30 reservation and we were greeted by a very friendly host. She took us to our seats. The restaurant was a bit empty - but quickly filled up after we got there. There were so many things on the menu I wanted to try. I loved that they had tofu as an option, because I try not to eat a lot of meats. We started with the California grilled artichokes. They were so good, even without the sauce. I wish restaurants sold them by the piece, so a table of 2 could get 2 and a table of 4 doesn't have to divvy up 3. The dipping sauce was also delicious. It was a nice way to start our meal. Our server brought us hot hand towels to clean our hands and switched out our silverware with new/clean ones. Our server took our dinner order when we were done eating our appetizers. We appreciated not being rushed or pressured. He allowed us to enjoy the appetizers and not worry about food coming out too quickly. My husband has been talking about the Angry meatball since he yelped Doc Bs some time ago. He decided he would get the entree that came with rigatoni. I tasted the rigatoni and it was perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. He ate the entire thing. I had one of the bowls from the special list. It came with mango but since my husband is allergic I had that removed. They made sure to mention that it wasn't included. The bowl I had was thicker noodles, tofu, avocado and some veggies in a Thai peanut sauce. It had a spicy kick, but not so spicy that I wasn't able to enjoy it. We ended with a cup of coffee that came with a wooden spoon stirrer (how cute) and the home made Oreo ice cream that came with a side of "magic shell." As my husband said, it was really Oreos held together with ice cream. It was so good! I don't think I would want any of the other desserts. All in all it was such a great experience. Doc B's was perhaps my favorite meal from Fort Lauderdale/Miami trip. Our birthday group stopped in for brunch on Sunday and started with drinks. Most of the table got mimosas, but I got a bloody mary. We also ordered a bottle of champagne for the table, which was really good! For food, we ordered the Cinn-A-Swirl Pan-Cake for the table, which I recommend everyone order when they go to Doc B's. Essentially, it's a giant cinnamon roll that's also a pancake, so it's not as heavy as a cinnamon roll, but tastes as warm as a pancake does. I also ordered the chicken and waffles, which was a quarter chicken, fried and tossed in a habanero-honey sauce. The chicken was really good and not too spicy and paired well with the waffles. Simple presentation, which is ideal for brunch. Our server, Junior was attentive and quick, and made sure we were always taken care of. Good location too, right in the center of all parts of the city you'd be going to on any given day. Good for groups as well! read more

Doc B's is located in a strip mall, so there's lots of parking. It's near many other retailers, including other popular restaurants. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and you can eat at the bar. We went on a Saturday for luner before an early theater performance. We opted for the Danish ribs and the chicken kebabs. When a rib did have a decent amount of meat, it was tasty. Otherwise, the ribs were bony and the meat was overcooked. The chicken on the kebabs was a bit mushy because it, too, was overcooked. The sides for both dishes were divine. I usually do not like raw kale but the slaw that accompanied the ribs was crunchy and creamy. Cilantro rice and cucumber salad with feta came with the kebabs and they were scrumptious. All three sides would have been a great meal for me. Since we hardly ate any carbs with dinner (just the rice), we opted to share a piece of chocolate cake for dessert. It was satisfying. Service was fast and friendly and our tab for two entrees and one dessert, including tax and tip was $88. read more

We sat outside because inside was busy and buzzing with conversations. We wanted some fresh air. I hadn't come to this restaurant since I moved home but I'm glad we came. I ordered a Greek-style chicken kabab bowl with cilantro rice, hummus, tzatziki and cucumber salad, it was very good. For dessert, we shared the chocolate cake, which was rich and decadent. Came to Doc B's with a large group (20+ people) 2 weeks in a row! Our leadership group came after our meetings for happy hour last week and tonight and had a really great experience both times. Ironically when we came last week Tuesday, it was after being turned away by another restaurant in this plaza. The manager (Holly) was absolutely wonderful accommodating us; the wait staff bartenders really took care of us too! The food and drink options are really great! Their happy hour goes until 7PM and they have great small plate options, as well as some really delicious entrées. We stopped in initially just for a quick drink but many of us ended up staying for another drink, even well into the dinner hour and ordering a bunch of food. After coming here two weeks in a row and having a great experience both times, I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer. 10/10 recommend a stop in to Doc B's! read more

Let's talk about it. I've driven by a few times but never had the chance to dine in--until now. I came over for lunch and ordered a Marinated Filet Mignon Wok Bowl. The bowl was served with broccoli, mushrooms, carrots & cashews. You have the option of Sesami Teriyaki or Spicy Thai and Sticky Brown Rice or Shanghai Lo Mein (there was an option for Quinoa but nobody has time for that ). I went with the Spicy Thai and Shanghai Lo Mein. $24 For the price, you really can't beat it. It was very affordable, and overall, the food was tasty. Each part of the dish tasted great on its own. The only thing I'd mention--though it's more of an observation than a complaint--is the filet mignon. It didn't quite taste like the classic filet mignon you'd expect. It reminded me more of sirloin tips, but honestly, for the price, I can't really be mad at it. It was still good. 8.2/10 For dessert, I had the Homemade Oreo Ice Cream served with homemade chocolate hard shell. $12 It was super basic--probably the most basic dessert on the menu--and I'm not sure why I let myself be talked into choosing it. It was fine, but nothing special. 6.2/10 The service was overall great except for the personal recommendations. I love getting a really good value, and this definitely delivered on that. read more

I had some friends that have raved about Doc B's. It seemed like a fine place but we had never tried it until last weekend. I had family in town and wanted to take them to a good place that had a straight forward menu. We arrived for our rez bout 530 on a Saturday. The place was a little busy, but we had a great service right off the bat. Our server had the waters then the drinks then the appetizers out plenty quick. 2 of our drinks were "off" but they replaced them quickly and all was well. Our plates came out soon after. I had the the "number six" which was a buttermilk spicy fried chicken. It was spicy and properly spicy. And something that is small but missed very often, I asked for extra pickles and, get this, I got extra pickles! We had good food, great service and the vibes were nice too. The meats were ok quality however there were some flaws on how it was cooked. We ordered for an appetizer the guac and chips. They weren't your normal style chips. They were kettle cooked/baked sweet potato chips, which I thought was a really healthy idea but they were very hard so if you have weak teeth or braces, I do not recommend. My friend got the steak with sweet potato fries, my other friend got the steak sandwich with sliced potatoes with cheese, I got the bbq ribs with potatoes as well. Both me and my friend with the steak sandwich potatoes were burnt and we didn't send for them back because we were on a tight schedule so took the L but also my friends steak sandwich was so undercooked that it was still mooing on the plate ! Lol Me and my friend also shared a cucumber salad which sadly had no flavor. My ribs were delicious fall off the bone but had more of a tangy smoked than sweet taste so if you don't like tangy you won't like these. But also my potatoes were burned :( My other friends steak was ok he said he had no complaints just could have been seasoned better but they charged him an extra $10 for the kind of "cut" of steak he chose which I thought ok understandable but that should have been better explained with the pricing etc. because that was surprise but all in all our bill came out to $260 which I didn't feel it was worth it based on portion and how it was cooked/seasoned. We also had drinks which they said were their brunch specials but didn't see anything special about it my Bellini was $15 my two friends cocktails were around $22-24 and all were sweet and weak. This was for my birthday and my first time so I probably won't be back unless someone drags me for their occasion I wouldn't oppose to it because it was clean and the customer service was good. read more

Doc B's is sosososososoososososoosoooooo good!!! We have been here for a few date nights and every time is delicious. The vibe is good, the service is friendly, the food quality is incredible. We tried the oven roasted chicken wings lately and the flavor profile had us thinking "should we get another order?". We have had 2 of their salads and they are large and great for sharing. Buffalo style potatoes is a mandatory appetizer order every time. Cocktails are lovely, and we will continue our patronage! Today's Review: Why would someone eat at Doc B's FTL after reading this true and honest review? 1. Upon arriving up to the restaurant, there is a kitchen service door next to the main entrance. There is so much kitchen grease on the door, on the concrete floor and all over the sidewalk. Someone could slip and fall, (lawsuit) and it just plain dangerous. It's disgusting to look at, and as patrons come into this restaurant. Every morning and before the restaurant opens, use Simple Green and water and pressure clean the space. Problem solved. 2. All the plants on the outside of the restaurant as you are walking in (underneath the glass window) are not watered, unhealthy and need serious plant care. Presentation is everything. I can help you with that. 3. Upon entering the restaurant, there was no one to greet you. Then two young girls came to the front, not smiling and looking bored. I asked to speak to a manager. She then asked me why I wanted to see a manager and I responded: "It's a personal request" She turned to the other host and started talking under her breath. Then she went to the bar, just steps away, where a lady was talking to a customer and drying glasses. I stood there for a few minutes and no one came to speak with me. The manager ( I guess she was that lady at the bar) ignored me and the two hostesses walked away from their post. -Really? Internal training is crucial to any restaurant. Those two young ladies who are obvious inexperienced in customer service, not smiling, and do not understand how to properly welcome customers into an establishment, should be fired. The manager, who also continued talking to that customer, did not even professionally excuse herself and come over to meet me. She wasn't waiting on him, nor was she serving him any food. She never looked at me, either. Rude. -I finally walked out. I've been to this establishment since it opened. I've lived here in Victoria Park for over thirty years. Foxy Brown just closed and it looks like Doc B's, could be next. The food is average, the customer service is abysmal, (and I witnessed it myself and a friend who was with me) not to mention the obvious and unwelcoming visual entrance and the unfriendly welcome into the restaurant. BTW: Upon walking in, I did not smell anything good entering to my pallet and nose senses. The management and host posts are crucial to any successful restaurant. The rest is up to the chef and the owner. The music and the atmosphere are important, too. It's a luxury and a privilege to go out to dinner these days. I have been in the restaurant arena for several decades and the competition is quite competitive. There are many restaurants in FTL, far better than Doc B's, and they are still standing for over three decades. I can walk into all of their kitchens, bathrooms, and common areas, anytime I wish. So I took my parent to the chain before and had a awesome experience, so we wanted that again. We checked out this location and received awesome service. The food was also as fantastic. My step mom got the chimicurri steak and fries. The steak was cooked to perfection and the fries were crisp. My dad got the tofu wok out bowl as he doesn't eat meat like the rest of us. He said it was as amazing as the last time he had it. My step sister and I got the fried chicken and had the same thing to say. The batter could use a bit of seasoning and the coleslaw will delicious, was a very large serving to be paired with the chicken. Maybe there could be another option.
