The restaurant is casual with both indoor and covered patio seating. I think the food is yummy and very reasonably priced. I got a salad that came with noodles, greens, veggies, and protein for about $15 and I went home with leftovers since the portions are large. The staff are always very friendly. I live within walkable distance to this restaurant, and this place is located in a nice, cutesy plaza. There are so many positive reviews (over 1,400 reviews on Google), so I wanted to know what the hype was about. Sadly, I was disappointed with the flavors and what they claim to be. I've never seen a pad thai so colorless and flavorless. It lacked the original Thai spices or flavors, felt like noodles and eggs. I also ordered the thai coconut chicken soup (~$3.50). This had some spices, coconut milk, and bits of white chicken. I cannot believe this was the best tasting thing out of everything we ordered. The Chinese black bean noodles were pretty disappointing. It was just a stir fry with bits of black beans and beef. Usually, when people think of Chinese black bean noodles, I think of jajamyung, a traditional Chinese dish in a black bean sauce (not a stir fry). Overall, it lacked seasoning and flavor- something you could spot by looking at the color. I mean at least the food came hot? As for the service and how the restaurant works, you grab a menu or look at the specials listed on the board. Then, you go up to the guy at the counter and place your order and pay via tablet. You can sit wherever you want with a number indicating your order. You get your own utensils, napkins, and takeout containers. I like that the takeout containers are out for when customers can conveniently need them. Each table has a roll of paper towels and sriracha bottles. I think the guys giving us our food were fairly blunt and unwelcoming. They were confused when giving us our food or somebody else's food, but we know what we ordered. I have been going to Doc Chey's since the 90's while I was in college. My kids grew up going there and we all got to know the staff. The kids are all grown and I don't go downtown nearly as much as I used to, but try to get to Doc Chey's when I do. I know things changed during Covid in order to remain open, however, many of those processes and procedures have remained in place. I can easily recommend Doc Chey's for reasonably priced, tasty food that comes out quickly, but it is no longer a warm inviting space to hang out and eat a meal. Instead it's a place to robotically place your order at the counter, get your own drink, and choose your own table- no waitstaff. I'm sure that this streamlined way of doing business cuts down on costs, but at the expense of human connection. The space is now boring and unimaginative as well. And the roll of paper towels on the tables instead of napkins, always get an eye roll from me... how unhygienic can you get?! The motto used to be peace, love, and noodles. It's peaceful in a boring way and the noodles are still great, but the love is definitely missing. 4.5 stars for the cooks and 1 star for Richard's decision making that took the restaurant from what it once was to this. I left last night with my grown son feeling let down; I know how warm, fun and inviting this restaurant used to be. Bring back the murals, bring back the waitstaff, and bring back individual napkins. No question at all- I would eat here again. I just ordered the wrong thing. My goal is to guide you so that you have the best experience. Next time I go I will order the Japanese Teriyaki Udon noodles, and the crispy Brussels sprouts - both were superlative. Our friends ordered the Brussels sprouts and kindly let me sample them- they were delicious, truly crispy (not greasy- if you love this appetizer as I do, you will understand the distinction. Fried brussels sprouts are showing up everywhere now - they even have them at the Chik-fil-a restaurant in Newnan!) I suspect most everything on the menu is good and fresh. But I made a classic mistake: I ordered a dish that I have perfected myself: spicy Thai basil noodles. Not a single Thai basil leaf graced my plate. I ordered it as "veggie" expecting an abundance of fresh vegetables, but the (beautifully cooked) vegetables were scarce. Bok choy was included in the description, but they were a rare find in my mound of noodles. There was a purée squiggle which I believe included Thai basil that I mixed into my dish, along with the bed of grated salad greens that accompanied our straight from the freezer to the frying pan Crispy Veggie Spring Rolls. The quality gap between them and the crispy Brussels sprouts was vast. Our friends, who live in the neighborhood, said that the woke-fired green beans were also a stand-out dish. The condiment selection on the table was excellent, including a seasoned salt/ sesame seeds blend, Sriracha, and soy sauce. I would also advise against the Pad Thai, as it looked remarkably like my Thai basil. Friendly staff, great vibe, excellent iced tea (unsweetened jasmine and slightly sweet black tea). Good budget choice, and great place to meet friends as you place your order at the counter, find a seat (outside or indoors) and your food is brought to your table promptly. When we finished, staff magically appeared with fortune cookies and an offer for a takeaway container. So, yes, I will return, no question. And I truly appreciate how vegan / vegetarian friendly it is! read more

I was greeted by a lovely hostess, who informed me of the specials and also check to see if my number was still in the system. It was! I used to love doc Cheys back in college so I thought I'd try it again. Unfortunately I hated the takeout food. They packed the rice in the food container so the container was mostly filled with rice instead of the actual food. You're basically just paying for a container filled with rice. Discovered this dish about a year ago and have ordered it religiously ever since. I'm not going to say it's completely authentic, but the egg is always perfectly cooked, the vegetables are fresh and crunchy, and the beef is seasoned well. It's the closest-to-real bibimbap you'll get on this side of town, especially at an Asian fusion restaurant. I dined here recently with my coworker on a Friday for lunch, and the cashier was very friendly and so were the rest of the staff. We were checked on multiple times and they really made an effort to engage with customers. Stopped by Doc Chey's for lunch and I must say, this place serves up some hella good grub. I ordered the Massamam curry daily special with chicken and it was awesome. The flavor of the curry was creamy with a tiny bit of spice. So I added some hot sauce and I loved every bite of it. It Was Delicious! The dumplings were excellent too!
