The only reason we would come here is for the karaoke. Ken (the host) was hilarious and made everyone feel welcomed. They usually have pretty good beer specials, but the mixed drinks are a joke. $6 for a thimble-sized weak drink. No thanks. Still, we've met some pretty cool people here on karaoke nights that made this little bar a must on weekends. They replaced Ken (the karaoke host) with someone else so it's pretty lame now. Walked over with my friend after having dinner at italianissimo trattoria for "one beer and one smoke". That was at 730 pm. Walked out the bar at 200 am. Hahahaha!! Besides the fact that the bartender Christie was freaking awesome, it was karaoke night (thurs) and we got sucked into the black hole of energy, fun and outright craziness from the regulars. We had a blast! The owner came in and bought a round for everyone. So our one beer turned into two and then 3, then 7... but who's counting? Lol... we were having so much fun, I sent a Lyft to pick up my husband from home and brought his ass over to hang out. Super fun and will definitely be back again. read more

The darkest bar this side of echo park. I have only been in one bar that was darker then this place. You will definitely have to use your cell phone, a lighter, or one of their table lamps to read anything. It is awesome. Light deprivation, drinking, and playing the spot game...just like Vegas. Especially when you walk out and it is blazing hot with the summer sun that just blinds you as you realize it is 2pm and you are tanked from the cheap drinks. The reason for 3 vs 5 stars? It's a cop bar and I'm not sayin i am a "cop"tite, just sayin I would rather not drink with them. The other bummer is that it is in downtown chula and I dont live close enough to warrant visitation anymore. I miss this bar....Oh. Pretty sad ken left... He was a big piece of docks. His lively personality was def a big reason to go kick back with some tunes.

The main reason this bar was rometly cool was it's Historical appeal it had old leather booths similar to the Butcher shop or the La Maze ,now there gone, bring them back .Is the new decor pretending to a beach bar or an Asian foot massage parlor?...This bar had potential a good dj or small band playing the right music on the right day would have brought in more bussiness . When Ken was the karaoke KJ this place was amazing. The new chick is meh. Not fun. Didn't stick to a line up. Doesn't have songs cued for the next singer. Really wish Ken was still here. No real issue with the bartenders. read more

CHEAP DRINKS for example $5 for a Midori Sour and $7 for a Grey Goose Collins. We sang LOTS of Karaoke! We even got FREE drinks from the bartender and some strange OLDER men. This is a great place to bring a group to Karaoke. Even if you don't sing, you will have one watching and listening to the regulars sing. A diverse mix of people- this isn't really the place to go if you are looking to hook up and flirt- this is the place to have fun with people who genuinely are just out to have a good time, sing and drink some good drinks. Jason, one of the bartenders, is a master at sweet drinks. He can make birthday cake, chocolate cake, oatmeal cookies- the list goes on! So good if you have an alcoholic sweet tooth. My favorite bar in the South Bay. Not only are the bartenders friendly and awesome (Jason in particular) but they serve up some pretty delicious drinks. Try the Oatmeal Cookie shot or the Chocolate Cake shot, mmm. It's kind of an older crowd, but for a dive bar that opens at 6am and has police badges plastered all over the walls, what would you expect? Bring some friends and do karaoke or hit the jukebox -- both are great options. This is a friendly, fun neighborhood spot that deserves a little more recognition. read more

There are 4 main elements of this place, which I'll be focusing on in this review: Karaoke, Drink Specials, Staff, and Ambience. Karaoke - first and foremost, they have an eclectic selection of songs: musical opera to hip hop to country music, you name it! Unlike most other karaoke bars I've been to, there are more chances to sing here. They don't prioritize based on how regular or new you are - it's systematic how they do it. The absence of a stage allows that flexibility for each performer to be either the star of the show or perform in the comfort of their own little area in the bar. This works with people who love to sing but carry stage fright, hence, making karaoke more of a fun experience rather than a potential sing-off amongst customers! Drink specials - Every night there are great drink specials. From beer to margaritas to shots, they are affordable, delicious, and make it worth coming out here to unwind after, say, a long work week, or just to kick it with your friends, without breaking your bank. Speaking of bank, it is cash only - but there is an ATM conveniently at the front of the bar in case you forgot to withdraw money beforehand. They'll make pretty much everything and have a variety of specials, depending on the night, of course. Staff - One of the most considerate staff I've ever known. Everyone that works and comes here is absolutely friendly. Two of the bartenders, Josh and Christie in particular, are amicable and make sure I always have a great time. Initially, I thought I was treated as such because I'm a regular. Recently, I brought my best friend to Docks for his first time, and Josh treated him just as well as he would me, a regular, which is impressive and showed - just like with karaoke - everyone is treated equally and there is no bias based on how "regular" you are here. Ambience - The place is located in Downtown Chula Vista on 3rd street. It's a very cute dive bar, with adorable booths and tables, a pool table in the back, and plenty of places to sit and socialize. It's a nice place, not too loud or crowded. Everyone has respect for one another (and security is highly enforced if otherwise), and you can tell people come here and have a great time. I've seen more locals than anyone else (I myself am a Chula Vista resident) but I've seen new and from-out-of-town people that come here time in time, still having a great time as much as the rest of us who love to come here. I mean, with all of the above mentioned reasons, it makes it hard not to unwind at this place :) That being said, I give you 5 stars, Docks! read more

Everything has been said and young people wouldn't enjoy it but I did! A nice quiet bar is definitely okay with me. The usual bar scene is loud and there's too much going on but sometimes it's nice to take a sip in silence and chillax. You won't be the center of attention here. Best dive bar in Chula Vista. Not sure it's even considered a dive bar anymore. But the last time I was there it still had the smokey mirrors on most of the walls, red lighting, and red carpet as I recall. We went there for my birthday a while back and had a BLAST!!! There were some older gentleman there - the crooners we called them - they were killing it! Great singers. But mainly - it was just FUN!!! Great experience! Small older style Bar. I go for Karaoke on Thursdays but anytime is a good time here. The Ratio of Older to younger people is about 70-30. Jason is a badass and nice bartender. They don't acceept Debit/Credit Cards only cash but there is an ATM inside so its not that much of an inconvenience. If your in town check it out. read more

I went into Dock's a couple of times a week for over 10 years! Eddie the owner is a great guy and everyone there are cops, Border Patrol, INS and prison guards etc. Sometimes you even get a prisoner! LOL! Some fool came in one night and tried to rob the place! He left in one peace, barely and in a police car. It's a fun place and pretty safe, if your a "good guy"! Hopefully you are. read more

Just came in from LA and Docks is usually a MUST! But I found out today that Ken the karaoke host is gone as of recently..... Now what? He was the only thing that had that place goin! Docks has always been my favorite little dive bar for years now, but after awhile the vibe seemed less than welcoming and the karaoke would make customers cringe. Maybe because it always seemed like the same few people doing the same few songs and there was no mix up. After taking a little break from Docks I decided to go back and give it another shot. I'm glad I did! They have really stepped up their game and are making changes to make it a fun welcoming environment again. And what's better than having a badass bartender? Christie is one of the reasons I have kept coming back because she really knows how to interact with her customers (and I haven't experienced that here since Jason). I can finally bring friends back to this bar without getting the 'why the hell did you bring me here' look. Props to Docks for changing the attitude and vibe of the bar and for not keeping it the same low lit, stagnant place. I will continue to bring friends here. read more
