As a visiting out of towner, I scoured the reviews looking for a great place to have dinner while in town for Parris Island graduation ("We Make Marines"). A number of people mentioned Dockside Restaurant so off we went. We got into Beaufort on a Wednesday and though I normally make reservations, I figured a weeknight wouldn't be too busy. We were a group of 5 and someone else decided to call anyway... she was right, they were booked. However, the service here is friendly and helpful. The man on the phone took her name and told her to come at 6pm and that we might wait 15 minutes. He was wrong. We arrived and he looked for her name on the list and seated us immediately. A great first impression! The restaurant overlooks the water and is somewhat noisy. There are a lot of tables tucked into one another. We could have chatted up the table of 8 next to us but it was fine. Just an observation, if you have hard of hearing parents, like me. Our server was great. Prompt with greeting us, prompt with drinks, knew the menu. She checked back, she fixed something my parent wasn't happy with and did it with aplomb. If I were a local this is a restaurant we'd frequent. Food is what you expect, seafood in numerous ways. I try crabcakes everywhere I go. I liked theirs, didn't love them. I always ask for extra sauce for crabcakes and they gave me a relatively huge side portion. Unfortunately, it wasn't my favorite. But their generosity in the sizing is to be noted. All in all, if you're in town to watch your Marine graduate, put this on your list of places to consider for Wednesday night. Totally worth the 1/2 drive from Fripp Island. This is one of the most reasonably priced seafood restaurants I've ever been to. Great service and and a causal, relaxed atmosphere. Fresh seafood prepared as it should be. Some of the best scallops I've had in a long time. I'll be back for sure the next time I'm in the area. read more

Firstly, I want to start out this review by saying I did not eat here so I cannot speak to the quality of the food. However, this place is not social distancing. Upon arriving, there were crowds of people outside with no one wearing a mask. To even enter the restaurant we had to walk by 20 or so people sitting outside the entrance, again not wearing masks. Cornbread: was slightly overcooked and hard on the top, but once you get through that the soft part is delicious w/ the soft butter spread. She crab soup: cream based soup w/ sherry wine. The sherry taste was very strong. It was not for me but you might like it. Hush puppies with honey butter dipping sauce: this dish is deep-fried corn-based batter shaped into balls. A southern appetizer. It was OK by itself but the sweet sauce made it much better. Swordfish steak: this is boneless. On the outside it didn't even look like fish but rather a piece of meat. It was good but a little too salty. Seafood pasta: a lightly creamy sauce (like Alfredo) with some seafood. A solid choice for a dinner entree. Broiled seafood platter: scallops, stuffed crab, shrimp, and flounder fish. The scallops were the best, very flavourful. FYI: The portions here are large. read more

An awesome addition to the Beaufort/Lady's Island dining scene. I don't think anyone is missing Ollie's. I've always loved Dockside's original location in Port Royal so I was stoked to see them opening a new spot in an equally beautiful setting. They've taken advantage of the great views with lots of windows, although I wish they had built a deck on the back. It's smaller than the other location, but everything else is basically the same: usually a long wait for a table but solid fresh seafood all around. They had a special salad on my visit, which I was thankful for as I'm trying to avoid fried foods. It was delicious and HUGE: three full skewers of grilled shrimp on top of an entire head of grilled romaine. I enjoyed the dish and wish I could be guaranteed that it'd be on the menu on my next visit. Service was fine, although I never appreciate 19 year olds calling me "sweetie," even if I am in the South. read more

I cant say enough good things about my visit to Dockside. I had read raving reviews before taking the trip to the low country. I lived in the Beaufort area at a young and impressionable age during the mid to late 70s and have some experience eating fresh seafood in the low country (we did some shrimping with cast nets and fishing in the area - fond memories indeed). During the 80's I lived in the Crystal Coast area of NC and I spent a little time as a cook in a seafood restaurant in Morehead City, NC so I have an opinion on this type or cuisine. I had the flounder stuffed with crab meat and a skewer of broiled shrimp, green beans and baked potato on the side. It was so delicious, I have nothing negative at all about the experience or the quality of food that I received. We arrived around dusk on a Saturday night mid January 2021 expecting to have a wait due to the reviews that I had read. We got lucky or just good timing, there was no wait, we were seated at a table next to the window with a great view of the dock and low country views. My lady had the skewered Shrimp which I also sampled as she did mine - all of the shrimp that I ate was delicious. She also had the side of Cajun rice which she was not impressed with - she did love the corn on the cob. We both agreed that the dish that I ordered was a masterpiece. I may get the same thing next time I go. I know for sure that I will eat there the next time I am in the Low Country. Ok place for casual family dining if you like fried food, they seemed to do that best. Anything that wasn't fried (like the catfish I ordered) was dripping in oil anyway. We had a large party and the waitress was borderline rude trying to turn the table from the moment she walked over. Just added to the unpleasantness of the experience. I would not willingly return, but then again I don't eat fried food.. If you do, you'll enjoy what you eat, but know you will be paying tourist high level prices for diner scale food. However I will add the sunset view outside of Dockside was absolutely breathtaking. read more

We were referred by a few locals and we were not disappointed! Everything was amazing! I personally had the Crabmeat Stuffed Flounder with shrimps and scallops. Along with a side salad, loaded baked potato and the vegetables that came with the meal. The cornbread that was served in the beginning was the best I've had in a long time. We came here on recommendations from the locals. I loved everything about this place! The candles on the patio really set the tone especially for the view on the water. While visiting the area my friends and I went to multiple seafood restaurants to try the local seafood. This placed was packed on a Friday night. My group and I waited over an hour and one half for a table. It was worth the wait! The wait was long. About 90 min to get seated. So I figured we'll it must be great. The wait did not disappoint. Started with fresh oysters. The best!!
