In closing down our week of relaxing in the Coastal Bend, we made a quick stop at Docs for an early dinner. This was my third visit to the restaurant, and each visit has been an improvement. The specials tonight were mahi, flounder and redfish. My wife decided on the flounder which was supposed to be served with a shrimp sauce. She elected to just have the grilled flounder by itself, no sauce. It was ok. Nothing to rave about, but they prepared it properly. I think it would have been better with the sauce. She ordered potatoes and vegetables as the side. Overall a decent meal. I have previous had their stuffed flounder which was very good. Tonight, I ordered the seafood salad. It was calamari, seared yellowfin tuna and boiled shrimp on mixed greens with a ginger vinaigrette and wasabi cream. I was very pleased to see that the calamari wasn't fried it was actually one of the better tasting dishes I've eaten here over the past week. The restaurant was pretty loud even for an early afternoon - which we expected. Overall a very relaxed atmosphere. The service and staff were pretty good. read more

Good scenery being next to the water while dining. Hostess and staff were great. Ice tea was perfect. Clam chowder was one of the best I have had. Generous portion of good crab guac but the chips were very stale. The hush puppies appetizer was cold, chewy and stingy portion for the price. Flounder Poor Boy delicious but really really a mess to eat. They need to cut the sandwich in half for you and put it together to be able to handle. The fried shrimp and fries were perfect. Had better coleslaw. Best dish we tried is the crab stuffed flounder covered in poblano crawfish cream sauce. Yum. Place is a little pricey for my 3 out of 5 stars. Could brush up a little. Nothing too special about the interior. They were out of oysters so was very disappointed nothing on the shell for me here. read more

The ambiance, service and food are all top notch! Was seated just at the edge of the "inside" and was able to watch the gracles, gulls and pelicans mooch along the "outside." You can't go to the gulf without eating shrimp and they were delicious. Wife thought the vegetables on her plate weren't completely cooked, but I tasted a carrot and green bean and thought they were the perfect complement for her meal. If you aren't from the area, it's a little "wonkie" to get into the place from S. Padre Island Drive, but it's just off the JFK Memorial Causeway on the right side when going to the island. You can take the "Intercoastal Turnaround" and just look to what would be the south side of the causeway. Definitely recommend stopping and having a meal or libation. read more

It's a tough place to keep cool in the summer I suggest they insulate and have cold air circulation open air for the money they are making it can be done . That effort will go a long way .... For an appetizer We had seafood queso and chips. We enjoyed it. We consumed all the dip and most of the chips. For the main course my wife had crab cakes. I had ahi tuna fish tacos. The tacos were above average in taste, quality and quantity. Portions of tuna were generous. They are recommended. My wife had crap cakes. The cakes were good but not to die for. I tasted half of a cake. They were bread and probably deep fried. Bit different from what I'm used to but still appeasing if you have a crap crave. An added plus was the 80s live band downstairs. They were good. The sunset was a sweet dessert. The restaurant was surprisingly cool w/o a/c for a TX July evening but TX is having a cooler than usual 2019 summer. No multi 100 deg days...yet. Knock on wood. On the downside our wait to get in was 50mins. Twice what we were told. Doc's was busy but also a bit under staffed maybe. Several larger groups were seated before my wife and I when we arrived earlier...5:15ish. On a side note while this is the first time eating at Doc's we attempted to go to Doc's Labor Day Weekend 2018. The wait was an hr or more. We did not wait. read more

This was my first time at Docs. I have heard about it from other family members and I must say it was just as good as they claimed. I ordered the Seafood Queso with their homemade hips. We thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the Cobb Salad with Blackened shrimp. It was also very good. My husband ordered the coconut shrimp. He said it was the best he ever tasted. This is how it works for food. Order a to go order from upstairs restaurant, they call you to a take out window upstairs. Then you eat it downstairs on picnic tables. Overall the place has a great atmosphere (4 stars). The service was not fantastic (2 stars), and it took about 1 hour to get our food (1 star). The place was not even halfway full, and we went on a Tuesday night. I couldn't imagine going on a busy weekend. Our party had the crab cakes, po-boy, and chicken fried chicken. If you want a sunset view over the water, there really is no other option, since Corpus faces East. (Except for Snoopy's next door if you want a fish basket eaten with plastic ware and serve yourself for basically the same price as a real restaurant - Doc's.) Doc's has excellent service, and for my money, Rebecca is the best waitress in Corpus Christi, delivering great service with an excellent sense of humor. I eat out a lot, being single, and there are other good restaurants, but I keep coming here for the open-air experience, great food, great service and not cheap but reasonable prices. read more

On vacation we decided to try Doc's because they claimed to have the best clam chowder. Well, one spoon for me and I was done--it was room temperature and had no flavor. We then thought we would try the seafood ceviche (a regular menu item). Our waitress, Amanda, told us they were "out of ceviche." How is a seafood restaurant "out of ceviche"?! I ordered the crab stuffed flounder, mixed vegetables, and rosemary red potatoes. The fish and potatoes were ok, the mixed vegetables were cold. I would not spend $22 for this meal again. My husband had the blackened yellow fin tacos. He said they had no flavor. His meal was $20 and not worth it. Next time we are in Corpus we will drive the extra mile to Port Aransas and eat at Shells! Shells is consistently delicious! read more
