I had the common hamburger. The meat was chard, and dry. I asked the waitress to make it with mayonnaise she said it will have a mayonnaise packet on the plate for me to use. Not what you would expect for a $16 hamburger. My son ordered the fiesta chicken. A grilled chicken breast with queso and guacamole sauce poured over the top of it. It literally look like somebody vomited on his plate. Certainly not worth $21. My son ordered a drink from the bar called Texas tea. Not sure what I was in it but it certainly was not worth $15. The new potatoes were good but as other people said definitely a bit heavy on the butter/oil. They upcharge for everything. $2 for salad instead of other sides... $3 for poblano sauce. Would have been move to sit on one of the open tables by the water but they were reserved by guests that never showed. Fried oyster was out even though they had shucked oysters. The food was decent for the fried platter but we went to have some what we thought would be good drinks and food with an awesome view. The drinks weren't good st all. Originally seated at a table; I used the restroom right away... expecting a server to have come by while I was gone. Nope. The table to our left had waters refilled, thought that was our server ... no one came. The table to our right had salads dropped off, thought that was our server ... no one came. After watching that salad table finish their salads we got up and moved to the bar. I informed the hostess we moved due to being ignored. Low and behold, after the salad table ate their salads, they left too! The mom told the bar tender his mixed drinks were great but they were ignored after their salads; no one came to get the bowls and their meals never game (mind you, this was easily 20 minutes after we left our table). So sad; their server was supposed to be ours ... seems like that guy has poor time management skills. I think this place is just overwhelmed - even being at the bar our meals took forever, ordering an appetizer is the way to go to hold you over. There was some wedding party happening below the place which is apparently illegal (the manager told us this!!!); if the fire marshal decided to visit they'd all have to clear out. We could see bar tenders prepping for that party, getting in the way of the scheduled bar tenders. Also noticed, the bar tenders doing side work instead of helping customers and there was beginning to be a back up of orders since a wait was forming for the sit down side of the restaurant (guests were ordering drinks while they waited). The food was surprisingly good. We started with the crap/avocado dip which was bomb! REAL CRAB! I got the shrimp po boy, a TON of breaded pop corn shrimp for $9; I ended up eating the shrimp separately ... didn't even get to the bread. Their fries were tasty too. My husband got the 3 crab cake meal + double side of cole slaw. Those crab cakes were legit! They come out and deceive you, thinking it's a nasty ball of fried dough; break one open and you can see an insane amount of REAL CRAB. Very little mix - all crab. The tartar sauce for our meals was very good, not mayo-y at all. Down side: the place being under staffed; we asked for utensils a few times - never got ketchup, etc; The managers were around (we saw 2 walking the floor and checking on tables) but I think with that party, they took on too much for a Saturday night. I'd go back and sit at the bar. Mike was great & did his best to carry conversation when guests weren't hounding the bar. I think they need a separate "to go" ordering stand, the bar tenders had to take care of that as well. --- There is no AC; it's hot as crap. Deal with it. read more

My wife is a pure vegetarian but she knows we love sea food and she looked at menu and saw she could have fried mushroom and potatoes n salad if we all chose to visit this place. We were all excited..when we sat down to order, we first asked for fried mushroom. Unfortunately, it was only availble for lunch and not dinner but their chef (not sure if it was owner) came to our table and explained the situation and asked if we would be okay with portabella mushroom. We agreed and he made an amazing cuisine. We all loved it. We also ordered fish, crab cakes and fried shrimp. Very sumptuous...great environment and they cater to individuals. Had their soup and salad for lunch. What a deal, $5.99. It starts with a fresh bread loaf. The salad was topped with fresh greens and the New England Clam Chowder was some of the best. The chowder had a soup broth consistency, not a white flour or corn starch thickened mush. The most clams we've had in a chowder with small chunks of potatoes, a few small carrots for color, celery and bacon. It was very good. We told the waitress we were pressed for time, the service was great and music in the background. And of course the view at sunset over the intercoastal channel is great. read more

Some of the food is bland. They don't carry lemons, only Limes and I'm not sure about everyone else but if I read a lemon cream sauce I expect it to taste like lemons. Prices are decent. After returning the fish with lemon cream sauce, I ordered the crab legs. The were a decent price, no lemon, and came with the side I ordered, unlike the fish. My husband had an all fried dinner. He liked it. I think that I would rather not return, but my husband likes it so we may. I'll just have to remember to bring my own lemons! read more

Waiter forgot cocktail sauce 2 times. The $25 "jumbo" shrimp was dryer than a girls coochie after a day on the beach. My family and I went to Corpus Christi for the very first time last week and had the pleasure of dining at Doc's. We were a party of 6, 4 adults and 2 children. My husband is not a seafood lover but he managed to get a very delicious steak cooked exactly the way he wanted. The waitress was completely honest about the portion sizes and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the crab guacamole for an appetizer and it was so yummy. The only thing I would change is for them to add a bit more crab because the guacamole really overpowered the crab but the two flavors together really paired well. I enjoyed their special that night which was a shrimp and avocado salad. Everything was extremely fresh and full of flavor. My other portion of my dinner was steamed crab legs. If you are familiar at all with crab legs, they are always risky because not every establishment cooks them properly (I frequently find them overcooked). Thee crab legs were cooked perfectly. They came out warm and the clusters were a good size too. The view was amazing. Right off the causeway, eating on the water and getting see the dolphins crest while enjoying a pleasant evening is a great way to enjoy vacation. The only reason why I don't give the restaurant 5 stars is because of the kids menu. It was extremely limited and the pizza my son ordered was like cardboard. My daughter order chicken strips which I thought were extremely bland. I understand it is a seafood restaurant and their focus is not the children's menu but if you are going to label yourself a family establishment, then all portions of the family need to be focused on. All in all though, if we ever make it back to Corpus, we would go to Doc's again!!! read more

The clam chowder was really good and they do not skimp on the meat. We also ordered the Guacamole crab and it was packed with crab. All very good with a nice open feel an great service. I have never actually been to the area and jumped on Yelp to see what was good. It seems that there's not much Yelping going around these parts, so the reviews were few and far between. We selected Doc's Seafood & Steaks based off the fact that it had 80 or so reviews and had about 3.5 stars. (Normally, we discount any places below 4 stars because...well...duh.) But, given the slim pickings, we worked with what we had. The place is literally right on the water and we got there about 3 minutes before the last bit of the sunlight was gone and were quickly seated out on the patio. It's all pretty much open air seating, but we were actually out on the patio. The restaurant was pretty clean and wide open with a lot of empty tables (this was at about 6 p.m.) and this should have been a sign of the underwhelming things to come. The entire time we were there, from the kitchen loud, terrible rap music played. Like, TERRIBLE. And not even in an ironic way. It was bad. And it was raunchy. I'm definitely not a pearl clutcher type, but I don't don't want to hear that kind of stuff when I'm out and paying too much for frozen fish (more on that later). The hostess sat us without even looking at us and walked ahead of us at her own pace. It was kinda, well, rude. It was actually very dismissive. Y'know, a hostess isn't necessarily going to make or break a restaurant, but she really set the tone. Our server took quite a bit to come over to us - keep in mind that there may have been about 6 other tables that had customers at them. The Boyfriend and I aren't ones to expect a server or bartender to immediately appear during a crazy busy dinner hour, but this was barely a lunch crowd. But, once he showed up, he was nice if a tad inattentive. I started with a house margarita on the rocks with extra salt. I wouldn't say it was the worst, nor would I call it the best. Did I order another? Nah. It was zingy and unremarkable. The menu was pretty straight forward and simple; seemed like a lot of local and seasonal fish offerings. We started out with the crab stuffed portabello mushroom appetizer. It was served with a weird, bagged lettuce salad (?) thing. The food runner plopped it down on the table and the juice from the salad pile sluiced over the side of the plate and onto the table. Seemed to be another example of poor training and a general la-dee-da attitude by yet another employee. The mushroom crab concoction was meh, maybe moving into the "just ok" category. It was definitely frozen, reheated and then slapped into the mushroom caps. They were large servings, but large of servings of meh does not make for a good appetizer. I ordered the blackened flounder Florentine and The Boyfriend ordered a cheese hamburger (I know... Who goes to a seafood place and orders a burger, right? But, he wanted MEAT and didn't want to get a steak.) with jalapenos and bacon and fries. My meal came with a salad and new potatoes. Since we were going to split our orders anyway, we also ordered a side of their seasoned fresh veggies. My salad was fresh out of the bag. *sigh* Bagged salads are akin to crunching on wet hair. (You can't at least cut up some lettuce, tomatoes and a cucumber? Maybe the terrible rap music was overwhelming your senses as well.) At least it wasn't frozen?! The flounder was just bad. It, like everything else, was frozen. (How is that "fresh, local fish" like their menu says?!) Also, it was totally not blackened. It was more or less "warmened". The white wine sauce with mushrooms and spinach was just.not.good. The Boyfriend was not a fan either. The new potatoes were similar to the ones you'd buy in the freezer section, then steam in your microwave. (Perhaps they used the same Birdseye brand?) The side of seasoned veggies were rubbery and odd looking (didn't think to take a picture, but imagine red and yellow rubber bits and you're on the right track). They tasted like they looked: sad. (Can rubber be sad?) The Boyfriend's burger was overcooked (the server didn't ask what level he wanted it cooked. So, I guess they cooked it at all of the levels...?) but it was decent. The fries were of the bagged and frozen variety. The bun was gummy and not fresh at all. (Same thing with the pre-dinner breadstick.) Because dinner was paid for by The Boyfriend's company, we decided to go for it and order a dessert. We went with the fried cheesecake. It was probably the best part of the entire meal. But, it was about on par with your chain restaurants (Olive Garden, Chilli's, etc.). Overall, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It does have a lovely view and some nifty lights in the water that attract the fish at night. read more

I eat at Doc's about once a week. The food is the best I have ever had. What really sets it above the other restaurants anywhere is the crew. They are the definition of a well oiled machine. Also they have live entertainment that is not over bearing.. It is always just loud enough to blend in. I would rate it equal to or above any restaurant anywhere. It is moderately priced. And family friendly. The mood is contagious and I always make new friends when I eat there. I'm one of those people that live to eat and it your one of those that eat to live you will likely be converted to one that lives to eat!!! read more
